  1. Telemachus
  2. Synth Run
  3. Haku Ten-O
  4. Telemachus (Whatever/Whatever remix)
  5. Ronin Love (dub)
Review: John Wilcox has been slowly disseminating crusty hardware jams for some six years now, in which time he's appeared as Cyclonix on Horn Wax, and now he nips over to Tusk Wax for more robo-charged antics in the curious corner of grubby, electro tinged house music the label orbits. "Telemachus" is a dreamy opening number that keeps the spook level up to maximum and the reverb voluminous throughout. "Synth Run" has a bit more bite, but not at the expense of atmosphere. Whatever/Whatever get hold of "Telemachus" and strip it down to a sparse skeleton of a track, and then Wilcox rounds the record off with the steppy ambient excursion "Ronin Love (dub)".

  3. DJ Dan - "Conjunction Funktion" (6:08)
  4. DJ Dan - "Command Your Soul" (6:04)
Review: US vet DJ Dan is back once again with the Slammin Trax series, bringing some of his spiciest originals and remixes onto vinyl for maximum party damage. "Engine No 9" does a fine job of chopping up a classic hip hop vocal lick and strapping it to a chunky big room house jam. Dan's remix of Bryan Jones brings even bigger levels of hype, not least around the monster breakdown and drop. "Conjunction Funktion" brings a more flamboyant funky flavour to the table without losing that massive impact, and "Command Your Soul" fires off a plethora of riotous licks, samples, hits and stabs while keeping the funk at the forefront.

  2. Blue Sea (Nacho Marco Electro remix)
  3. Dirty Loop
Review: Valencia based deep house DJ and producer Hugo Giner aka W & P HGG has been deejaying and crafting his sound since 1995. In 2006 he created his own record label 'Cornuta Sound' which has been well received amongst the global Deep House Scene. His releases have been charted by house giants such as Larry Heard, Rick Whilitie, Charles Webster, Miles Sagnia, Harley&Muscle, Efdemin, Julietta, Le Loup, Dubbyman and many more. A remix of the main track made by his very close friend Nacho Marco aka Loudeast (Loudeast Records, Ovum, Madhouse) in an old classic electro way, grows without a doubt to reach the status of "a must, only for connaisseurs".

  4. Rhythm Plate - "Keep Moving" (6:40)
Review: Hudd Traxx 3rd installment of their 10th Anniversary series comes from Eddie Leader, Hector Moralez, Washerman, Brett Johnson & Rhythm Plate. Label owner Eddie Leader delivers a deep & moody house groover with the slick vocals of long time Hudd Artist Hector Moralez, aptly title 'Way Back'. Washerman picks the pace up with 'Twilite', which is reminiscent of legendary Detroit label Underground Resistance, and adds to the continued diversity of this project. Brett Johnson's 'Mr Smarty Pants' is re-released after gaining plays from the likes of Laurent Garnier and an edit by Dyed Soundorom. Closing out the EP are 2 of the most underrated Producers in the business; Rhythm Plate. 'Keep Moving' was Overshadowed by 'Inside Me' on the 'Robbin Hudd EP' in 2007 but is given it's time to shine on 'Now & Then Part 3' and is a fine addition to the 10 Year celebrations.

Review: Austria's Pusic Records have been quietly pushing their sound for the last two years thanks to a variety of their local talent. For this latest instalment, number six in the series, we have MK5 who lays down a laid-back electro-leaning jam on "Phase Em Out", Snacks and the piano-led house jerker that is "Between You & Me", Woodcut's booming and head-strong "The Project" - which is followed by a more glitch and minimal remix from Hodini - and the more disco-friendly "Burr" by Funkyjaws. Quite the package over here!

Review: Following their last outing, 2016's "Humpty Dumpty", Ron Trent affiliate Anthony Nicholson teams up with William Kurk for two more beautiful house moments. "Confession" is a balmy sunset number that's so soulful it could make Louie Vega blush while "Azimuth (Suite No 1)" taps into his Chicago roots for an authentic machine massage where emotion seeps from every synth stroke. Timeless.

Review: Beating Heart has shared the late Hugh Tracey's archive at the International Library of African Music (ILAM) with contemporary producers and keeping in line with Tracey's vision, all proceeds will be used to assist people in the areas where the music was originally recorded. This time, Warp Records and all round UK electronica legend Luke Vibert gives us the delightful oddball groove that is "Africable", Italian DJ Clap! Clap! Gives us the African polyrhythms via Detroit high-tech soul on "Kulira" while Los Angeles duo With You give us the sublime "No Resistance". Each 1500 albums sold will feed a school of 500 forever! Review: Soulful hip-hop beat-maker Waajeed's transformation into a Detroit deep house star continues apace, with the former Slum Village man's second EP for Dirt Tech Reck in as many months. He begins by doffing a cap to Theo and Moodymann on "Get Down", a shuffling, warm and dreamy workout full of rich disco bass, twinkling electric piano keys, gentle vocal samples and layered hand percussion. Confirmed summer jam "Through it All" is a breezy, string-laden bastion of piano-heavy positivity complete with bustling analogue bass and "Strings of Life" style solos, while B-side "Kingdom" sits somewhere between crunchy Chicago house, gospel and lilting Motor City deepness. Yes, please!

  1. Moon River Membrane

  4. Rx
Review: For the debut of New York's anticipated Purple Trax label, a new formation of key players in Brooklyn's underground debuts with an EP sure to entrance fans of L.I.E.S., White Material, and other established NYC labels. Composed of Terekke, local DJ/producer Jan Woo, and Erez Avissar, label head and founder of the respected Weird Magic parties, Wabi Sabi's dusky and diverse sound comes from its origin in loft jams, but tracks like the closing 'Rx' with its powerful dub techno framework show the work of seasoned talents. Patricia's cameo on 'Casper' is the record's strangest sound, a propulsive house groove with explosions of crackling texture and a bassline deeply buried in fog, while 'Babi' stutters along between the drum pulse and its disappearances into deep wells of delayed vocal samples and gentle melodies. Vibes are saved for the opener 'Moon River Membrane', where Terreke's characteristic cosmic haze comes out more heavily, complemented by the genre-bending psychedelic tendencies of Avissar's programming and Woo's weighty low-end.

Review: Takashi Wada returns here with another slab of charming, off beat house music for his own WADA label that will appeal to anyone that hoovers up anything that hovers on the radar of the Sex Tags/Acido/SUED axis. Seemingly inspired by the occasional Tase project done in collaboration with SUED boss SVN, the inherent beauty of the two parts to Deep Sea Diver doesn't really transfer to 90 second soundclips. Side A's Part One for example dovetails into this amazing pattern of glistening keys and chords as the final third comes into view. Both productions are made all the more alluring by some off key drum programming that really grabs your ears.

  4. Rooftop (7:01)
Review: The peeps behind the People Of Earth label claim that Rick Wade is on top form on their latest release. While that's undoubtedly true, the Detroiter has incredibly high standards and rarely puts out anything mediocre. The four tracks here are all deliciously deep and fluid, with the Fender Rhodes solos, meandering organ lines, warm bass and chunky beats of "Never Give Up" delivering just the right blend of instrumental goodness and dancefloor-ready weightiness. "Seen At Night" is an even deeper and hazier treat, while "Forever Alone" sees Wade wrap bongo-laden beats and eyes-closed electric piano chords around a ludicrously warm and heavy bassline. Solo-laden closing cut "Rooftop" is also superb - a proper sundown selection of the highest calibre.

Review: Eat More House's second salvo of 2019 comes courtesy of Rick Wade, a producer who seems incapable of making poor or mediocre music. His particular brand of Motor City deep house is always on-point and the four tracks here are every bit as atmospheric and groovy as you'd expect. Check first the foreboding analogue bass, punchy beats and simple melodic refrains of "Bmore Banger", before moving on to the deeper and more sedate - but not less dancefloor friendly - warmth of "NY". Over on side B, Wade reaches for the hypnotic beats, raw acid bass and enveloping chords of "Deep Sweet Dreams", before wrapping us in a blanket and offering up a steaming mug of hot chocolate via the wonderfully huggable deepness of "Too Deep". A master at work.

  1. Just A Touch
  2. Deep Feelin'
  3. Mellow Go
Review: Swiss based Italian DJ Gianni Siravo continues to excel under his recently established Washerman alias, with an appearance on the newly minted Saft imprint following a superlative drop for Drumpoet earlier in 2012. Whilst that releases focused on no nonsense booming warehouse sounds, the three track Deeper For Me approaches matters from a slightly more classical deep house angle (as you'd expect from the title) Opening track "Just A Touch" hogs the A Side with one of those thick punchy grooves reminiscent of 90s US garage but its complemented by vast washes of subaqueous melody that lend the track some contemporary feeling. On the flip, "Deep Feelin" is rhythmically more clipped, lead by a nagging vocal under tone and slick percussive embellishments that keep you on your toes, whilst Washerman playfully drops drunken keys on top. Finally "Mellow Go" stays true its title, with the straight groove deep in the mix as the woozy keys and incandescent chords are allowed centre stage to work their magic.

Review: UK house don Wbeeza comes through with Purple, a second release on his own PFlymusic label which continues to push his Pekno manifesto - that's techno direct from the heart of Peckham for the initiated! If you are a fan of Wbeeza's output on Third Ear you will be all over this 12" (and if you are not what's wrong with you!) which commences in fairly unrelenting fashion with the industrial strength concoction of kicks, hats and criminally minded bass lines that is "Masterz of Disasterz". Following this, Wbeeza turns in a nicely submerged 2014 edit of "Day By Day" from his 2010 LP Void, whilst robot voice aside "I Want You Know" focuses on a sound not too dissimilar to some of the bruk vibes that were emanating from West London circa 2003 and is a considered highlight!

Review: Baby Ford and Dazmos take the limelight on this first release on Nice 1. We Are Syd's original "Gently" is a mellow downtempo roller featuring choice vocals from Shea Seger, but it's the remixes here that get pride of place. Ford and Dazmos lock into an understated drum machine funk draped in hazy pads on the A side "Backroom Mix", while on the flip they push the club elements to the forefront. Riding the rhythm section with intent while still retaining the smoky spirit of the original, the pairing come up with an impeccable "Frontroom" club cut that should nestle comfortably into the bags of all deep digging house heads.

And boy does it take it the chance. Octaves of Energy is a fine 3-track addition to the Altered Moods canon, demonstrating an innate understanding of what deep house truly stands for. "Conscious Fields" sets the tone, with wavering high hats and tambourines easing in and out of focus amidst rich pad work and a wistful vocal sample. Complementing this, the B-side houses two truly deep excursions with "Octave 50" particularly satisfying.

Review: Formerly one half of Leeds post nu rave outfit Ocelot, James Welsh has now settled into a nice deep house groove under his own name, with a well regarded turnout on Hypercolour offshoot Losing Suki the prelude to this rather refined debut for the Wolf Music imprint. Perhaps the only house track to ever be named after a trans-Pennine motorway, "M62" is nonetheless a superbly crafted production blessed with some deep set vocals from Ms Terri Walker! Alongside this, Welsh drops a rather spritely warm fronted homage to his favourite online storage service "Zippyshare" while "Nowt" shows the Northerner to be just as adept at louche beatdown business. Wolf regular Medlar ensures the Lupine House massif are well stocked with a storming remix of "M62" that's got all manner of fidgeting rhythmic intricacies.

  3. Release Your Soul
Review: Nat Wendell launches the Depth Of My Soul label with a confident slab of deepness that should draw plenty of heat on the peaks and troughs of the house music landscape. "The Way" is a crisply produced pumper, revolving around a seductive little lead line and the haunting titular vocal hook - there's a whiff of tech in the make up of the track, but the groove is all house. "Theoretics" follows down a similar path, keeping things moody and mechanical without disposing of the funk, and then it's down to "Release Your Soul" to bring a little light into proceedings with some mellow keys and dubby flourishes.

Review: After launching the Depths Of My Soul label in 2018, Nat Wendell got snapped up by the ever-excellent Courtesy Of Balance for a follow up. Now he's back on his own turf with his third release, and sounding tighter than ever. "Reality" is a driving minimal house joint with drums in all the right places and a nagging chord line to latch onto. "Can't Stop" keeps things looped up just as much, precision engineering the music for the DJs and championing the sound of true tech house.
