That Real Live (5:29)
Spaceflight (6:03)
In 4 Mation (4:22)
Blaktronics (5:03)
Review: Deep house originator Abacus is back in the game having revived his Re:Think label "with a new vision & energy." The first EP, Analogue Stories Vol 1, is a bold one that opens with a monologue from a classic New York movie about street gang warriors. It sets a moody tone which then leads into warm deep house grooves. 'Spaceflight' rides on loose, jumbled drums, toms and basslines that are topped with sustained cosmic chords and 'In4mation' then brings heady and wispy melodies that encourage you to dream as the soul-drenched grooves roll on. 'Blaktronics' shuts down with a more prickly percussive edge. It's a welcome return for this master of the form.

Review: Abacus (Austin Bascom) is a household name in the Chicago house and techno scene for over 30 years now. He has been on some of the best labels of all time like Prescription, Fragile, Balance and Guidance records. As you can imagine, Collectors Edition Vol 1 is full of classy house music to say the least. 'Chi-Town Stories' is a blend of super smooth and uplifting prime time floor business. We absolutely think you will adore this track. 'The Mourning Sun' is a stunning ambient house beauty that will have you dancing with your eyes-closed. 'Hygge' finishes things off on a sexy house vibe. There is really something for everyone on this. Abacus stands for quality for those who know.

Collaborating with Alexander Skancke, Ageless delivers a collection that transcends mere music, serving as a homage to the enduring influence of art as each track pulsates with Ageless's distinctive vision, weaving hypnotic rhythms and enveloping melodies that evoke the sensation of an awakening dream. Review: Damian Lazarus's Crosstown Rebels kicks on with more useful house fuel here, this time from the fast-rising Airrica whose playful sounds have begun to make a mark in the same way as have her DJ sets across some of the UK's most notable events. There is a garage vibe to 'Hi Speed Lover' with its dusty drums and old school melodies, while Nick Morgan remixes it into a deep-cut house groove for late nights. With 'Cherries', Airrica layers up floating beats and pads with sensual vocals to make for something that will encourage dance floors to zone out. A Kinahau reworks it into even more dreamy territory.

Review: UK house mainstays Audiojack are well entrenched in the house scene and have been forever. They have landed on plenty of key labels, established their own fine outlet, and now land on the respected Crosstown with a fresh deep house offering. 'Play With My Mind' is a nice bubbly cut with 90s chords and deft little vocal sounds. 'Casual Verve' brings some US garage style snares and a gritty, grinding bassline and 'Connect' is oozes cool from the neon synth patterns that bounce over the stripped-back beats. 'Delirium' shuts down with a libidinus vocal hook over turbo charged tech grooves.

Get It Up (6:30)
Mardigra (7:01)
De Crezy (6:37)
Right On Time (6:19)
Review: Andrew Azara's Right On Time EP, released via Cecille Records, is a hot house record eager to work the dancefloor. With a career spanning back to 2017 and releases on esteemed labels like elrow, Origins, and Politics Of Dancing, Azara adds another feather to his cap with this latest release. The EP opens with 'Get It Up,' featuring saturated organic drum grooves, weighty sub bass lines and a fusion of filtered synth licks, vocal chants and tension-building strings. 'Mardigra' follows suit, embracing a classic house feel with a swinging rhythm section and bumpy stab-led bass groove, complemented by gritty stabs and intricately processed vocal cuts. On Side-2, 'De Crezy' introduces a funk-infused walking bass line, dynamic percussion, and subtly unfurling atmospheric tension. The title track, 'Right On Time,' concludes the EP with skippy drums, murky sub bass swells, hazy chords, airy strings, and oscillating resonant synth flutters. Overall, 'Right On Time' is full of well produced soulful house music.

Review: Joaquin Joe Claussell's Sacred Rhythm label is in a purple patch right now with a clutch of new EPs all dropping in quick succession. As well as the boss himself, Roa Azulay also steps up with more spine-tingling deep house depths here across three fresh cuts. 'Satori' opens up with dreamy melodies floating up high over nimble, lithe drums and poignant chords. 'Hope' hits harder with a more driving deep house but still melodically rich sound and 'Ode To My Frida' (Vince Watson Piano Reshape) brings plenty of Detroit soul to the rippling drums and bass.

Review: Balam's new single 'Caravana Planetaria' has already been widely tested on dance floors across the world and has reportedly never failed to make a mark. First up on the 12" is 'Caravana Planetaria' (club mix) which rides on raw drums with slapping hits and has darkened vocal loops adding the character next to spangled pads. 'Caravana Planetaria' (Guitar mix) brings more freaky energy and tense textures for the dark, later nights in the club and 'Caravana Planetaria' (Guitar instrumental) then closes out with an extra edgy sense of uneasy melody.

Review: Irish producer Balmr lands on Selections after nice outings on the likes of Sofa Movement Records, Kolour Detroit and Expanded Records which have all established him as a fresh deep house artist. His love for the Motor City shines through again here with the warm, dubby drums and swirling pads of 'In Search Of' bring to mind the Midwest's best. Jon Dixon remixes with a little extra bite in the percussion and 'Forager' then layers up more dusty drums and wooden hits with diffuse synth curlicues. It's a sound that works on both head and heel and lastly, Glenn Davis remixes with a touch of jazzy cosmic class to his synth work.

Review: The vocal loop that swirls next to lush deep house chords and cuddly beats on 'Groves On' is so packed with emotion and meaning it really tugs at the heart. 'The Tool' is another perfectly lo-fi and expertly undercooked house gem with a hint of swing in the drums and a well-deployed vocal snippet that brings the soul. The Glenn Underground remix is more laid back and cosmic with his signature synths reaching for the stars. Last of all, the Byron The Aquarius remix skates on warm hits and dynamic drums with a heady spoken word monologue adding to the escapist feel.

My Love Is Magic (club mix) (7:16)
My Love Is Magic (Mark Broom dub Retouch) (6:57)
My Love Is Magic (Mark Broom A12 mix) (5:18)
Review: Nu Groove's ongoing edits series turns its attention to one of the legendary NYC's most iconic early release, Bas Noir's 1988 garage-house classic 'My Love Is Magic' - a piano-powered vocal number fronted by two female singers from New Jersey and produced by the Burrell Brothers. Their original club mix is featured (A2), alongside a trio of fresh re-edits. Bushwacka kicks things off with a deeper, more sonically detailed and marginally punchier rework that makes much of the Burrell brothers' percussion and piano stabs, before Mark Broom takes over on side two. His 'dub retouch' fittingly sounds like a piano solo-sporting NYC house dub of the late 1980s - no bad thing in our book - while his more revolutionary 'A12 mix' re-casts the track as a harder, heavier peak-time loop jam.

This one finds him going even deeper than before, starting with 'Laguna', which will soon uplift you with its Afro-Brazilian drums and live bass from James Simonson next to lush keys. Review: The original only dropped last year but it soon sold out so here comes a reissue of this gem from Simoncino, known for his nostalgic house vibes, in collaboration with Benedek, a Los Angeles-based producer whose music blends atmospheric synths with elements of Balearic, proto-house, and deep boogie. The EP is a strong offering with standout tracks like 'Puffed Tribe' which combines Paul Simpson and Charles Webster influences, 'After Midnyte,' with its glistening guitars and glossy synths, and 'Badlands Oasis,' offering a more spacey and psychedelic vibe. Benedek's style bridges the gap between retro and futuristic, delivering a collection of tracks that evoke both nostalgia and anticipation.

Review: There is a great combination of the classic and the contemporary on this new Disco Disco 12". 'Paradise' is both deep yet moving, a warm tune with cuddly drums but retro chords that bring the energy. 'Latino' has shimmering hand claps and sensuous vocals with hulking great kicks that are full of promise. Motion Anthem (6:06)
Review: New Jersey-born Ali Berger is a drum machine specialist and low-key US electronic music standby, now based in Pittsburgh after spending the 2010s in Boston and Detroit. His catalog of original music runs deep, with over 60 releases on his Trackland label and EPs on imprints like Spectral Sound and Sequencias, all resulting from a lovingly-cultivated studio approach which respects improvisation as a spiritual practice. Here with this sublime release on Scissors and Thread, Serious, Berger collects tracks "from the last three years, plus 0221 (Serious Mix) from 2018", portraying the pursuit of an art form (techno, house) that demands that one take oneself seriously, whilst also periodically calling that sense of self-seriousness into question. As stated by Berger, there is a sense of deep melancholy that runs throughout the record, whether on the watery functions of 'Tape Jam (Pt. 2)' or the sparse synth-keyed movements of 'A New World To Forget'; they seem to reflect the feeling of happily pensive dog days, of arriving at new insights that wouldn't have been discovered had one not endured them.

Review: Those two little letters GU are always enough to get us excited. They are of course an alias of Glenn Underground, the masterful Chicago house producer, musician and DJ who still has a much lower profile than his talents deserve. Here he adds a Mix Mashup to Bobpstar's 'Mayday/Captured Restless Soul Mixes' and the result is a bubbly, mellifluous deep house cut with warm and liquid synths, chopped-up vocal fragments and a gooey sense of romance. It is another crucial offering from the Windy City mainstay, even if it is a one-sided 12".

With a career spanning three decades, Braatz is celebrated for his diverse expertise, blending old-school reverence with contemporary techniques. The title track, featuring vocals from Chicago house pioneer Harry Dennis, kicks off the EP with Braatz's signature synth energy complemented by Dennis's effortless flow. Jocelyn Brown's powerful vocals deliver a story of fleeting romance, seamlessly intertwining with lush orchestrations and a driving rhythm section that still get people up and dancing all these decades on. He starts in confident mood via energy-packed peak-time workout 'Party Crusher', where acid licks, Yorkshire bleeps and piano riffs rise above an early LFO-inspired groove, before opting for a mid-90s-MK-goes-psychedelic flex on 'Nismo'. Over on the flip, 'VOT' is a rolling, acid-flecked, organ-sporting slab of rushing dancefloor positivity, while 'Zero G' is a raging, TB-303 heavy acid-breaks roller.

'Night Susan' is a slow and raw beat with filtered vocals and whirring machine sounds, a low slung hip-hop edge and funky bass guitar riffs adding the hooky charm. Peter Seiler's track, a standout from the reissue of his debut album Flying Frames, features Sheryl Hackett's soulful vocals and merges song structure with jazz improvisation. Eoism from Pulse Drift, Undersound, and Inch By Inch delivers low-swung electro flavours perfect for sunset vibes while the B-side opens with Voertuig of Tonal Oceans and Cobra Club who presents a seriously raw acid jam followed by an experimental, jazzy piece, reminiscent of the 90s downtempo era. Review: Costin RP may be well entrenched in the Romanian scene, but his sound isn't particularly beholden to the assumed Rominimal sound. On his latest missive for Pleasure Zone he demonstrates this perfectly with the limber synth flex of 'Take Eat', the kind of stand out slice of after hours brain fodder which absolutely deserves its own side of vinyl to stretch out on. The flip side cut is pointedly titled 'Last Moments Of Sunset' and while the balmy, woozy sound may well sink into the horizon comfortably you could just as easily picture it working a warm-up slot in a club or lighting the way through a murky after hours set.

The Rhythm People EP

Jason Ward - "The Meaning" (4:48)
J Erazo - "The Pulse" (5:34)
Paul French - "Jump" (unreleased dub) (6:00)
Review: Rhythm N Vibe treats us to four different and equally brilliant garage cuts here from four different and equally brilliant artists. Marc Cotterell opens up with the slinky and dusty drums of '96 Is Back' powered by a rasping bassline. Jason Ward then brings some fresh 90s sounds with a neon baseline and diva vocals on 'The Meaning' while J Erazo keeps it deep and paired back on the sublime 'The Pulse' which is a real late night warmer. Paul French then layers up nice fresh and bumping drum funk on his lovely number 'Jump' (unreleased dub). There is lots to love here on a very useful EP.

Marcelo Cura & Smit - "Is It Possible" (8:55)
Review: Celosophy 004 presents a stellar compilation of cutting-edge dance music, showcasing four tracks that push the boundaries of the minimal and tech house genres. On Side-1, Marcelo Cura & Ja Kub's 'Talk 2 U' transports listeners to the early 90s with its melodic breakbeat sound, flirting with elements of ambient house for a very cool experience. Following suit, Enzo Leep's 'People' injects a dose of fun with its beachy vibe and infectious breakbeat rhythm, creating an atmosphere that's both melodic and energetic. Flipping over to the B-side, Andrey Djackonda's 'Next' takes a balearic and ambient downtempo turn, offering a refreshing change of pace with its laid-back mood. Closing out the compilation is Marcelo Cura & Smit's 'Is It Possible,' a sleek and polished tech house track characterised by its smoothness, fast-paced beats, and epic groove. Together, these tracks elevate Celosophy 004 to new heights, delivering next-level dance music. This record is hot!

The Next Morning
The Night Before (0:05)
Floor Call (0:09)
Review: Since the inception of the 803 Crystal Grooves imprint in 2018, Cinthie has been steadily unveiling her own material on the main label, while the sub-label Collective Cuts was inaugurated in 2019 as a platform for friends, associates and beloved producers in her circle. The past five releases on the platform have welcomed material from the likes of UC Beatz, Azuni aka Washerman, Anaxander, S3A (Sampling As An Art) and KETTAMA among others, while here the label welcomes some fresh talent from the Dutch capital, namely D Stone and Milion, who've been releasing their raw house sound on the likes of PIV, Moscow Records and Cecille respectively in recent years. 'Next Morning' is an uptempo full-body-scan in the form of speed garage / garage house, taking after but not fully submitting itself to tropes and motifs of deep and jackin' house (synth organ, rampant swing, etc.). Anthemic moods throughout, and with an added sense of 'slap' not otherwise heard often, we don't bet many selectors would be likely to go wrong with this one.

Review: D'Julz is one of those producers who you can always rely on to do the business. His sounds are made for DJs and dancers - they establish a raw groove then keep you locked without any fads or cheap drops. This latest outing on Chiwax is another gem from the Frenchman with the stripped-back and lo-fi chunky of 'Murky' kicking off before 'Ruff' brings scuffed-up and well-swung drums. 'Jackie' is an old-school sound that nods in the direction of original Chicago house and 'Raw' keeps it deep and tight with a moody bassline and plenty of eerie melodic touches.

Review: Reviewing Roy Davis Jr.'s impressive and deep catalogue, picking and choosing a few to represent him on a 'Classics Remastered' EP must be an impossible choice. With over 35 years of brilliant, genre defining music, we can't imagine how difficult this task must have been. Who hasn't heard 'RU Ready' on the dancefloor before?! Also included is the long version of 'Save Your Life' which has been a late-night jam choice for countless DJs. We're really excited to see the 1996-edit of 'Heart Attack' made the final track list also - this tech house masterpiece has killed dancefloors the world over. Hopefully there'll be more classics of Roy Davis Jr coming after this one - for now, pick these remastered gems up now.

Review: Chicago and house music go together like tea and cake, football and accumulators and politicians and bullshit. Dellacasa taps into that fine tradition here on the Fresca label with some fresh and future facing takes on the trip and tested Windy City template. 'Time For House' is a pulsating, enthralling cut with rich kicks and a jacked-up percussive edge under prying basslines. Jorge Savoretti remixes with a brighter melodic twist and 'Chica & Go' then gets a little more playful and loopy with jazzy motifs and bubbly pads. Franco Cinelli remixes this one into a funky jam for steamy sessions.

Review: Kevin Dennis Pierre has been making high-grade house music as Demuir since the dawn of the Millennium, in the process notching up releases on such imprints as Robsoul Recordings, Stickman, Nite Grooves, Farris Wheel, Heist, Kaoz Theory and Hot Creations. Here the Toronto-based producer brings his brand of club-ready deep house to France's Frappe Recordings, flitting between driving, mind-bending peak-time hedonism ('The Music In Space'), jazzy and sample-rich goodness ('Enter The House of My Lord') and revivalist Chicago 'boompty' (the early 2000s Classic Music Company style 'First Look In San Diego'). Pierre's old pal DJ Sneak rounds things off with a deliciously sleazy, weighty and sub-heavy interpretation of 'The Music In Space' with added low-end sax stabs.

Review: The Samosa label returns with Part 2 of the Re-Funk Head project, once again showcasing top-tier disco grooves. Opening up is Dirty Elements & Drunk Drivers feat. E.M.E with 'Disco Ball,' a sassy, high-energy track featuring a standout brass ensemble, while track 2, 'Ain't No Doubt About It' by Moplen, entices with disco beats, bongo rhythms, and a masterful bassline. Jazzyfunk's 'Sexy Thing' continues the disco theme with soaring strings and a punchy bassline, perfect for any dance floor moment. Closing the EP is DeGama's 'Feel The Groove,' a powerful tune blending house vibes with blues-inspired guitar and sultry saxophone. Re-Funk Head Part 2 is essential for serious funk fans.

Review: Fresh UK street soul purveyors Edit UK unearth a now criminally undersung classic from New York r&b duo Groove Theory, 'Tell Me', this time flipped and rerubbed by bass aficionado DJ Double A. With its bass amped and gridlines marked, this version from A is a minimal but subtle edit, thoroughly primed for club play. We're comparatively caught off guard by stellar his work on the B, once more bolstering the effectiveness of the neo-soul via drum & bass formula.

Review: House of eFunk is back with another home to the legends of Detroit with Efunk Detroit Volume III. It is the one and only DJ Minx who kicks off with the stripped-back and low-slung dusty house depths and drive of 'Sweet'. Marcellus Pittman then offers another of his brilliantly raw, spare cuts in '888 In The Groove' with its swirling pads and raw hi-hats, then Mike (Agent X) Clark asks 'Where You Get Your Funk From?' by layering up smudgy pad swirls and prickly analogue beats under chopped up vocals. Sillygirlcarmen's 'Good Times' shuts down with a more steamy and sensuous sound topped with emotive vocals.

Crockett's Theme (DJ Nature Re edit) (6:44)
Review: DJ Nature, who was once a part of the earliest incarnation of the Massive Attack crew, is a master of rough and ready, slow and heavy grooves from the world of house, beatdown and disco. Now he shows off those skills once more on Until, a new 12" for Smoke & Mirrors. The title track kicks off with low slung and dusty kicks and scratchy hi hats that are topped with swirling, dreamy ambient synth puddles. A delicate vocals brings the soul in the midst of it all. 'Crockett's Theme' is an iconic early electronic track by Jan Hammer that gets reworked here with some fresh low ends but the same trance including synth sequence and warming, diffuse chords of the original. Superb.

Review: Perhaps a universal language is something we can never achieve, or at least, stories such as the Tower of Babel suggest. But temporary simulacra of such fancies may be aspired to, not to mention sick Balearic records calling for them. Here Ibiza mainstays DJ Pippi and Willie Graff team up for a swell full-length record, displaying an ingenious shared ear for the combo of live instrumentation, sampling and club-ready mixing. Some 12 tracks escort us through the duo's manifold styles, honed over the course of 17 years and modulated with subtle layers of eloquent instrumentation and effervescent synths.

Review: The Lost DATS Part One: Unreleased House Music 1997 by DJ Romain unveils a treasure trove of unreleased house tracks from the height of his creativity in 1997. The record kicks off with 'Here We Go Again,' a high-energy, New York-style house anthem characterised by its tribal rhythms and relentless drive. 'Over' shifts gears into a deeper, bouncier house groove with an infectious bassline that's tailor-made for the dancefloor. On the second side starts with 'In This House (Main Vox Mix),' a vibrant diva house track featuring Mark Echols, highlighted by its upbeat, piano-driven melody. Closing the collection is 'Methany Deep,' the heaviest track of the bunch; it's a masterclass in minimalism, creating a compelling rhythm-focused slow burner. Each track demonstrates DJ Romain's versatile approach to house music, making this a great discovery for aficionados of the genre.

Review: Since re-emerging earlier this year, mid-90s Leeds label Hard Times (a spin-off from the now legendary club night of the same name) has released some killer material from Steve 'Silk' Hurley and Eddie Leader. Here they tap up another US house legend, Chicago's inimitable DJ Sneak, for an EP of typically loopy, funky and hard-edged workouts. Sneak lets us settle in with the groovy and attractive loop jam 'You're Mine', before wrapping alien disco strings and held-note chords around a bumpin' beat on 'This One'. He opts for a crunchier, tech-tinged house sound on the gently twisted 'Body Slangin', before rounding off a rock-solid EP via the hybrid acid/deep house/disco-house pressure of 'Deep Undercover'.
