Expect the album to be a diverse affair packed with dance floor moments but also plenty of more spare sounds that allow the world play to shine through. Review: Brooklyn-based band 79.5 make music right now, rather than being some long-lost acts from the 80s as you might expect from the cover. The group consists of singer, songwriter and composer Kate Mattison, singer and rapper Lola Adanna, drummer Caito Sanchez, bassist Andrew Raposo and sax player and flautist Izaak Mills. Review: Arabic music crate-diggers Habibi Funk have so far proved adept at unearthing killer material from the 1970s and '80s that joins the dots between indigenous styles and dominant Western genres. Their latest collection focuses on the work of 1970s Egyptian band Al Massireen, an outfit funded by one of the country's most successful producers of the period, Hany Shenoda. Modern Music, so called because the band was Shenoda's attempt to modernize Arabic music, includes tracks taken from a wealth of forgotten cassettes and albums. Musically, it's rather special; a heady blend of Arabic vocals and instrumentation, orchestral disco influences, blue-eyed soul, grown-up pop and dreamy West Coast style rock.

Review: Canadian singer, songwriter and visual artists Allie X - real name Alexandra Ashley Hughes - is a great representative for the resurgent live electro-synth scene. Emerging from the Toronto indie circuit in the mid-2000s, it was a relocation to Los Angeles, a heartland for neon sounds, and early work with producers Circuit and Billboard that first saw an identity begin to form, which is as retro as it is futuristic, picking up scores of fans along the way, including Katie Perry no less. Girl With No Face is her latest long form, and sees the artist again stick her flag confidently in the ground. Tunes bounce, track, soar, step, pump and - at times - fall apart, emotionally speaking, with clear references to the likes of Ladyhawke, Madonna, Kraftwerk, Cocteau Twins and a-Ha, among others. Definitely one to watch, if you're not already.

Review: Amsterdam label Music from Memory are steadily becoming the most interesting archivally minded operation out there, with this retrospective of Mallorcan guitarist Joan Bibiloni following essential issues of work by Gigi Masin and Leon Lowman. On El Sur, MFM founders Tako Reyenga, Abel Nagenast and Jamie Tiller cast their gaze over Bibiloni's work from the more experimental era of his long career (he first released a single in 1967) selecting tracks from a six album run which commenced with the album Una Vida Llarga I Tranquila, originally released in 1984. It was during this time that Bibiloni began to compose with the assistance of tape loops, drum computers and synthesisers and these primitive experiments make for compelling listening across the ten tracks on El Sur.

Review: The late Gabi Delgado fronted the Dusseldorf duo DAF (Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft), and in his honour, this reissue of their experimental sixth album 1st Step To Heaven comes courtesy of Music On Vinyl. Janky and fairlight-hued, as was the case with much of 80s dance music, the music pines after sex like an object to be pursued in and of itself. "You make me want to have sex" goes the refrain of opener 'Voulez Vous Coucher Avec Moi', while 'Sex Up' continues the charge with a dubby, Balearic remix, continuing the mantra throughout the album. A fantastic look back on a weird and provocative duo.

Review: Dam Funk has been foundational in crystallising Stones Throw's undisputed leadership in the nu-school funk and boogie scene, and he's up there with the great J Dilla in our books. Naturally, he's been asked to mix up the latest series of DJ Kicks and, ladies and gentlemen, it's a real masterclass - one of those comps you can safely leave on and let it do its thing on you. The mood is personified by a fine blend of electronics and tougher, funkier rhythms by artists such as Index, Moon B, and Dam himself. There are also a few rare cuts by Chicago house legend Gemini that fit in perfectly, and a whole heap of wavy, Cali-inspired electronic funk. Badass.

Review: Sun Explosion is an album by Manu Dibango that is the latest reissue from Soul Makossa after it was first put out in 2016. Dibango is legendary musician from Cameron who was celebrated for his versatility - he could do it all from jazz to funk to soul, blues to electro to reggae. He was trained in classical piano and formed his own band in the mid 60s before moving to Paris in 1965, where he recorded several albums. The six tracks here are all lengthy pieces that take in various styles from Afro boogie jazz to Soukouss beats via catchy Afro soul and funk It's superb album from a notable talent.

Review: The Melody Mecca disco in Rimini is the subject of this second compilation selected by DJ Meo. It's a bumper collection of vibrant disco tunes across four sides of vinyl with a poster included, too. It runs the gamut of early disco styles form Afro tinged and dubbed out to vocal, instrumental and, of course cosmic. Next to the intense workout such as Babatunde Olatunji's 'Gin-Go-Lo-Ba (Drums Of Passion)' are blissed out and jazzy numbers like Alphonse Mouzon's 'Sunflower.' More sentimental slow burners like Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour's 'Before It's Too Late (Antes Que Seja Tarde)' provide moments of dancefloor romance.

This remains a great record despite its vintage.

He comes up with plenty of mega hard to find and expensive musical treasures that have all been painstakingly researched and tracked down. It was a short lived but fertile scene in the underground back in the 90s and if you didn't; know that already you will after one listen through of this - the sounds are highly danceable with silky, low-lit melodies and steamy and seductive vocals for loved up late night dancing.

Review: Soul master Donkin harks back to the golden era of r&b, which he sees as being some 45 odd years ago, on this superb debut album Welcome Home. The singer-songwriter pays homage to the late 1970s and early 1980s with his signature delicate falsetto as well as playful and elaborate vocal harmonies which are back by lush, golden keys and plenty of nimble basslines. Artists like George Benson and James Ingram are referenced musically along the way as these delicate soul ballads come and go on the breeze. It's a great harks back to a super special time but all with a singular twist that roots it in the here and now.

It comes on limited light green vinyl and when it was first put out on the Salsoul label it hit the Top 40 of the US R&B chart. The title track climbed all the way to number two and other singles such as 'Everyman (Has to Carry His Own Weight)' and 'My Love Is Free' are also enduring dance floor gems. The group's tip top cover of the Four Tops 'Baby I Need Your Loving' is also an album highlight.

Review: As well as his prog rock god status as part of ELP, English musician Keith Emerson is well known for his soundtracks for the likes of Dario Argento's 1980 movie Inferno. This Murderock album was written in part as a tribute to the master of Italian horror Lucio Fulci and was first released in 1985, described at the time as being like Flashdance meets Psycho. It's a mix of dance tunes for the day and some dramatic scores and was first reissued in 1993. This version adds four never before released tunes which were used in the backing to the most macabre scenes of the movie.

Review: Fatima Yamaha is one of several aliases used by Dutch musician and producer Bas Bron, who is best known for the anthemic 'What's Girl To Do'. but who has so much more in his locker. This album proves that. It was recorded over a five year period after his 2015 album Imaginary Lines and draws together electro, p-funk, Detroit techno, Chicago house and plenty of in between styles. 'Drops In The Ocean' is a fantastic opener with potential to become another huge hit while the mix of hooky vocals and melodies with underground beats pervade tracks like 'Day We Met' amongst other highlights.

Review: Although Peoples Potential Unlimited mostly deals in super sweet little 7"s, it also does a fine job of putting out some top notch albums. Italian musician Alex Fernet is next up to keep that going with his Lucidanotte. It's a feel good record couched mostly in disco but with heavy elements of funk and Italo, soul and electro. There is an 80s vibe to the tools used and the sounds that result, with poolside funkers like '"Medusa Smith' sitting next to sunset dancefloor gems like 'Phantom Of The Club'. His own vocals appear in many tunes to back up the boogie baselines and as well as being great in isolation, the tracks all add up to a fine and coherent longer player.

Review: Nigerian disco-boogie act Galaxy's sole, self-titled album has become a holy grail for Afro-boogie collectors over the last few years, so it's no surprise to see Italian crate diggers Mondo Groove giving it the reissue treatment. It was produced by Jake Sollo - one of Nigeria's premier funk and soul musicians of the '70s and '80s - and recorded in the UK, though it was originally only ever released in his home country. Full of killer grooves (Randy Taylor's bass playing stands out), spacey synths and group vocals from the trio known as the 'Galaxy Girls', the set is packed with highlights.
