  1. Jacob F Desvarieux - "Rifyx" (3:18)
  2. Tala - "Wick Up" (6:06)
  3. Jacob F Desvarieux - "Rifyx" (Kuniyuki edit) (8:02)
Review: Endless Flight has done us all a favour by shining a light on the little-known work of French zouk maestro Jacob F Deviscaux. Here, they round of their retrospective series of "anthology" releases with another red-hot three-tracker. Side-one begins with "Rifyx", a wonderfully summery, horn-laden concoction from the musician's 1985 album Oh Madina that somehow joins the dots between jazz-funk, zouk and disco, before continuing with Deviscaux's 1982 Afro-funk/synth-boogie/electro-zouk production for vocalist Tala. Best of all, though, is Kuniyuki's stupendously celebratory flipside re-edit of "Rifyx", which turns the all-too-short original into an eight-minute slab of audio sunshine.

  2. Plastic Doll (6:24)
  3. Plastic Doll (instrumental) (5:41)
Review: This is the kind of track you'd imagine the legendary I-F thrashing out on a heaving dancefloor at peak time. Dharma was a short lived Italo disco project featuring Luciano Ninzatti and Stefano Pulga, and their track "Plastic Doll" was undoubtedly their finest moment. Originally released in 1982 and a proper underground classic to those that know, it featured American vocalist Linda Jean Wesley and it gets a much deserved repress here on Mr Disc Organisation. Italian duo Tiger & Woods serve up a terrific modern reshape on the A side, followed by the timeless vibe of the original mix and handy instrumental on the flip.

  2. Playin' With Fire (Daniel Maunick remix) (6:27)
  3. Shining (6:30)
Review: Originally active around the turn of the century, Difusion are back in action with a mission to champion real songwriting in the deep house scene. "Playin' With Fire" rides a funky disco groove and works around some seriously catchy vocals, while Daniel Maunick dubs the track out and rides the filter to deadly effect. "Shining" rounds the EP off with a sweet, sensitive jam that strikes the kind of melancholic tone that wistful dancefloor memories are made of. Once again the vocals lift to the track to another stratosphere of heartfelt expression - this is sure to go down a storm with the late summer crowd.

  1. Right My File (8:09)
  2. I Want Your Back (6:05)
Review: Suave Parisian scalpel-botherer Dimitri From Paris continues to churn out top notch re-edits, slightly altering his famous production persona from label to label. Here, he delivers a second 12" for Razor 'N' Tape under the Dimitri From Brooklyn alias. Like its' predecessor, it features a couple of stone cold bangers. "Right My File" offers a thunderous, housed-up take on a lesser-known cover version of Dan Hartman's grandiose disco smasher "Relight My Fire" - all vocal breakdowns, big builds and big-lunged sing-along moments. As for "I Want Your Back", it re-casts Dimitri as The Reflex, laying down a version of The Jacksons' "I Want You Back" that sounds like it was done from the multi-track parts. It is, of course, dancefloor dynamite.

Edits Part 3 (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: RNT 025. Rel: 05 May 17
  1. Kettle America (7:18)
  2. I Knead You (5:47)
  3. Without Rob (5:46)
Review: Razor 'N' Tape's two previous servings of Dimitri From Brooklyn edits (and, yes, they're the work of legendary DJ/producer Dimitri From Paris) were both must-haves, so hopes are naturally high for this third volume. Predictably, the disco-loving Frenchman is on fine form once more, laying down a trio of interpretations that breathe new life into classic jams. While the A-side "Kettle America" (say it phonetically) is something of a cheeky treat - impressively chopping between hard-wired guitar riffs and the original track's bustling disco groove - it's "I Knead You", an end-of-night, lights-up version of a Sylvester cut that smartly emphasizes the song's gospel origins, that really sparkles. "Without Rob", a harmonica-heavy rearrangement of a well-known favourite, completes another essential package.

Gold Wave (1-sided 180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MDDLTD12 02. Rel: 02 Sep 19
  1. Gold Wave (11:09)
Review: Dinky-Di is a modern disco ensemble conducted by Waq Takahashi with just a few key releases spread out across the past 15 years. Now Million Dollar Disco main man Al Kent has cherry picked one of the hottest jams from their oeuvre and given it a special rub down - the kind of treatment that warrants a single-sided 12" no less. In Al's hands, 2005 track "Gold Wave" becomes a sizzling party monster that romps along for more than 10 minutes. With scintillating peaks, heavyweight drum breakdowns and sumptuous musicianship throughout, this is how an epic disco bomb should sound in 2019.

Go Bang! #5 (12" with obi strip)
Cat: GET 5604312. Rel: 25 Apr 16
  1. Go Bang! #5 (Francois K mix) (7:37)
  2. Go Bang ! (Walter Gibbons unreleased mix) (12:27)
Review: Arthur Russell in his early 80s post-rock, far-out outfit Dinosaur L, "Go Bang #5" featured on the band's one and only album 24-24. According to legend Francois was asked to create a dancefloor version as the album version was a little too far-out for the floor. Naturally he delivered while paying total respect to frenetic, leftside thinking of the original with elements, textures and instrumental devices flying in from all sides. Another outright disco legend appears on the B: Walter Gibbons applies a leaner twist that gradually builds into bad trip wooziness before letting loose with an epic percussive section. 35 years deep and this still bangs.

  2. Estrelar (4:40)
  3. Back In The Day (Daniel Leseman remix) (6:09)
  4. Last Night (6:03)
Review: Back In The Day marks the second appearance from Local Talk regulars Dirtytwo on J Kriv and Aaron Dae's Razor 'N' Tape imprint. Like their last outing, Back In The Day sees them offering up an impressive blend of bumpin' house and filter-heavy re-edits with a heavy emphasis on party starting. While the murky, basement-bothering title track, and Daniel Leeseman's baggier, disco-house rework, are impressive, it's the EP's other two tracks that are really floating our boat. Check, in particular, the string-laden, bass-heavy sleaze of "Last Night", which boasts a spine-tingling breakdown and some decidedly sweaty female vocals. That said, the slower "Estrelar" - a chopped-up, looped, filter-fiddling rework of the Marcos Valle track of the same name - is also rather fine.

  4. Ain't The Way (6:34)
Review: Razor-N-Tape welcome in a high grade remix and some original jams from regular contributors Dirtytwo, Sweden's finest contemporary house practitioners. They start with a bang by tackling the evergreen party-starting classic "Get Up (Everybody)" by Byron Stingily, turning the 90s piano house tones to a more modern, jacking tech house style without losing the iconic vocal. Roman Andren pops up for a guest spot on the laid back, jazz-licked "Hageby In Your Eyes," while "Found Love" draws on some familiar vocal tropes for an uplifting, soulful turn. "Ain't The Way" finishes the record off with a choice lick from Foreigner that should get the whole room grinning ear to ear.

Review: A mysterious white label from a mysterious source with no details or even track titles. All we know is that there are only 200 copies and that they absolutely bump. "Track 1" is a real heads down driver with a well-known female vocal ghosting through the groove while "Track 2" brings home a job lot of funk with a much looser, off-grid groove and a breakdown to melt into. Get lifted.

Review: Anonymous editing crew Disco Bits follow up Cannon & Mirrorball's killer party piece with their second release of the year; the exceptional "Funk Freak" EP. Four tracks deep, each one prodding a different corner of the dancefloor and riddled with references and samples, we run the gamut from the vibesome hip house of the title track to the silky boogie funk of "A Thousand Megatons" with all shades of funk and freakery in between. Will we ever find out the identity of these mysterious editors? Probably not. But to be honest we're all too busy getting down to care right now. Get your freak on.

  1. For The Love Of Money (4:05)
  2. For The Love Of Money (disco dub) (4:14)
Review: Disco Dub Band's "For The Love of Money", a one-off collaboration between producer Davitt Sigerson and reggae musician Mike Dorane, has long been considered something of a classic by those who like their disco to come with a big dose of dub-wise flavour. Here the instrumental O'Jays cover, which originally appeared on the Movers label in 1976, is given the remix treatment by long-time fans Mr Bongo. The superb A-side, in which Dorane's instrumental talents take centre stage, naturally comes accompanied by the frequently played Dub interpretation, a typically wild and bass-heavy affair that sounds like it was mixed "live" in one take in true Lee Perry/King Tubby style. If it's not already in your collection, it should be.

Review: Apparently eight years in the making, "Costellazione K78" is the collaborative effort of Discodromo and Massimiliano Pagliara. It's a truly cosmic affair that channels a generous amount of warm, 70s sound into its component parts as it sets a course for the stars. The A-side houses the original throbbing epic in its pure form, restrained in parts but with a bold narrative arc that reaches further out with every passing bar. Meanwhile on the flip you can feast your ears on the more boldly defined dub version, which amps up the FX and synth vamps for a truly interstellar space trip.

  4. Deboto Love Song (5:14)
Review: Infamous Parisian afterparty Discomatin update the edit series they launched earlier this year with another clutch of beautifully modified obscurities. Once again we're treated to the full spread as the collective lay down the sunny side grooves: "Show Me" is a brilliantly kitsch moment in disco with spoken word that guarantees dancefloor humour. "I Need To Meet You" whisks us off to the horizon on a yacht while "Le Paradis C'est L'enfer" is an emphatic piece of French electroboogie that's so raunchy it could make Gainsbourg. Finally we hit "Deboto Love Song". A serious end-of-night (or end-of-morning in the case of Discomatin) unity cut, if the harmonies don't have grown men on their knees you're doing it all wrong.

  5. Disco's Symphony (6:24)
Review: While Tasty Recordings first sampler 12" - released some 18 months ago - featured tracks from a quartet of label signees, this belated follow-up simply showcases cuts from one artist: label regulars Discotron. They begin in fine form with the fluttering, life-affirming boogie bounce of Michael McDonald-sampling shuffler "Disco Gettin' Jacked", before joining the dots between early Will Smith records and classic disco on "My Nu Joint". There's some seriously good jams on the flipside, too, where the delay-laden, dewy-eyed disco deepness of "My Disco Peeps" is followed by the sample-heavy, cut-up madness of "Disco Symphony", which layers classic hip-hop vocal samples over lifts from oh-so familiar disco grooves.

His love for the original US deep house sound remains unabated on this new 12" for Ornaments, Tribute, with the title track notable for some deft sampling of cult Detroit DJ The Electrifying Mojo. Around his legendary tones, Dive crafts a bone shaking house groove with chords positively dripping with emotion. Bust out the B side and Underground Quality's Jus Ed lays down a killer phased out Deep Sleep remix of the track whilst Dive adds his own filter heavy Disco version. A fine 12".

Whatever your spiritual persuasion, "Rise & Shine" can't help but inject a little joy into your life. On the flip, Dixon turns the piano house power up to 11 with the life-affirming thrust of "Whatcha Gonna Do", featuring Maleke O'Ney on vocal duties. Review: Thanks to a string of fine disco and gospel-fired releases and remixes for the likes of Midnight Riot and Lumberjacks in Hell, Alan Dixon has become a must-check artist. Here he makes his bow on Running Back with arguably his most arresting and inspired EP to date. The real star of the show is co-producer Darren Morris (a regular Ashley Beedle collaborator), whose dazzling solos surge from the speakers on the driving, 1989 style piano house rush of "Moments" (reminiscent of his work on Beedle's peerless remix of Bent's "Always" in the early 2000s) and the Balearic house brilliance of "Star Dance" (think Phillip Lauer/Tuff City Kids). The fun continues on muscular, Italo-disco influenced opener "La Danza" and the colourful, sunrise-ready soundscape "Ambient Braindisk".

  2. Paresse (6:49)
  3. Fall (7:13)
Review: Les Disques De La Mort regular DJ Oil has hardly been prolific over the last few years, which makes his decision to release two EPs almost simultaneously rather an odd one. We're not complaining of course, because Telephunk - the second of the pair - is amongst his best work to date. The title track, which stretches out across the A-side, is particularly good, with Oil contrasting rubbery, boogie style bass and pulsating, Italo-disco style Arpeggio lines with creepy horror synths and foreboding electronics. Turn to the flip for more arpeggio-heavy action in the shape of the druggy and intoxicated "Paresse", before Oil indulges his downtempo roots via the rolling instrumental trip-hop of "Fall".
