After Dark EP (hand-stamped double 7")
Cat: AOS 005. Rel: 26 Mar 19
  1. Act Of Sedition - "LDCE" (MikeandTess edit) (4:30)
  2. Don Ray - "Got To Have Nothing" (Might Mouse dub) (4:28)
  3. The Blackbyrds - "Rock Creek Park" (Lego edit) (4:38)
  4. Michael Jackson - "PYT" (Bully Boy Refix) (4:40)
Review: Another double dose of seven-inch action from the Art of Sedition crew, who once again offer up a quartet of floor-focused re-edits stretched across two dinky slabs of wax. Mighty Mouse's punchy instrumental dub of Don Ray's "Got To Have Nothing" also hits the spot. On the second disc, Lego Edit flexes his muscles with a locked in, house style take of the bass-heavy classic "Rock Creek Park", before Bully Boy does his best Reflex impression on what sounds like a ground-up stems revision of MJ classic "PYT".

  1. Sky Dump (4:36)
  2. Massive Birth (4:50)
  3. Taylorpo (Warehouse Preservation Society remix) (5:23)
  4. Massive Birth (Mind Fair remix) (5:43)
Review: Coolly stepping out like a white-suited player on a Miami club strip, the high expectations set by any mention of Italian disco pioneer Daniele Baldelli are easily matched by the opener and title number. And things really only get better from there.
'Massive Birth' is an intelligent, freeform outing on a half-time, DJ Rocca's ever-tight drum programming clearly having some influence on the complex percussive patterns. On the flip, Mind Fair have their way with that original, turning it into a more grounded four-four workout if you listen beyond the top layer of rolls and snare crashes. For many, though, this one will be all about the Warehouse Preservation Society remix of 'Taylorpo', which puts Italo right back at the top of the disco agenda, sounding at once space age yet nostalgic, and unquestionably, unstoppably danceable.

AEIOU (12")
Cat: FVR 151. Rel: 25 Apr 19
  1. AEIOU (Dimitri From Paris remix) (7:44)
  2. AEIOU (Dimitri From Paris Super Disco dub) (7:01)
Review: First released last summer, Cotonete and Roberto Di Melo's "AEIOU" is a deliciously warm and woozy chunk of jazz-funk/revivalist Latin disco fusion that sounds like it was recorded in 1978 rather than 2018. This time round, Dimitri From Paris is at the controls, offering up two arguably superior "Special Disco Mixes" that not only boasts more audio clarity around key instrumental parts (particularly the horns, walking bassline and previously buried Clavinet lines) but also add some fizzing new electrofunk synths. As a result, the A-side vocal version sounds like a disco scene anthem in waiting, while the high-octane flipside dub is percussive, sweaty and full throttle in the best possible way.

DB7 004 (40 gram vinyl 7")
Cat: DB7 004. Rel: 03 Jun 19
  1. Percy (4:55)
  2. Bolass'd (5:05)
Review: Dane//Close is sounding fierce as hell on this 7" edit grip for the ever-excellent Duca Bianco. Having previously moonlighted on Power Station and Prasens Editionen, you know this is a head with an instinct for alternative selections to make you move. On the A side, he tackles the incendiary "I Don't Wanna Go Out" by iconic Australian punks X (not to be confused with the LA band), stretching out the rowdy groove of the original's two-minute burst. On the B side, things take a slinkier turn into oddball boogie sleaze - the source material isn't so easy to detect, but it's definitely a jam to get low tempo lovers moving.

  1. Caribbean Son (DC edit) (6:21)
  2. Kunikos TV (DT edit) (5:04)
  3. Caja Negra (DT & DC version Acido) (6:35)
  4. Night Giver (DC edit) (5:46)
Review: Los Angeles disco Stus Pleasure Of Love return with their fifth edition of piping hot edits, respectfully respliced for your convenience. This one features co-founder of the local Heat-Wave party series (and one half of Cosmic Kids) Daniel Terndrup, who goes one-for-one with Trap.Avoid member Patrick Billard aka DJ Duckcomb on these four cuts. Kicking off the A side is Billard, who takes the razor to a wonderfully sunkissed/tropical style tune on "Carribean Son", while Terndrup gets properly lo-slung on the cheeky and rather familiar groove of "Kinikos TV". On the flip, it's all about "Caja Negra" (DT & DC version Acido) where they join forces on this tripped-out tribal Italo number.

  4. Take The Shock Away (Pete Herbert version) (5:56)
Review: La dame Noir is a Marseille-based label who first crept onto vinyl with a crucial various artists release back in 2016. Now they're back with more of that noirish modern disco deviance that made them an exciting proposition first time around. "Take The Shock Away" is a bittersweet groover by Dawad and label co-founder Relatif Yann, with pitch-perfect vocals by Mounissa which sounds strong on its own. The label however has drafted in a list of big hitters to deliver remixes, from Vox Low's synthwave laced trip to Pete Herbert's punchy electro-disco burner. Whichever version you plump for, the quality is undeniable on this surefooted 12".

  2. Plastic Doll (6:24)
  3. Plastic Doll (instrumental) (5:41)
Review: This is the kind of track you'd imagine the legendary I-F thrashing out on a heaving dancefloor at peak time. Dharma was a short lived Italo disco project featuring Luciano Ninzatti and Stefano Pulga, and their track "Plastic Doll" was undoubtedly their finest moment. Originally released in 1982 and a proper underground classic to those that know, it featured American vocalist Linda Jean Wesley and it gets a much deserved repress here on Mr Disc Organisation. Italian duo Tiger & Woods serve up a terrific modern reshape on the A side, followed by the timeless vibe of the original mix and handy instrumental on the flip.

  3. Shining (6:30)
Review: Originally active around the turn of the century, Difusion are back in action with a mission to champion real songwriting in the deep house scene. "Playin' With Fire" rides a funky disco groove and works around some seriously catchy vocals, while Daniel Maunick dubs the track out and rides the filter to deadly effect. "Shining" rounds the EP off with a sweet, sensitive jam that strikes the kind of melancholic tone that wistful dancefloor memories are made of. Once again the vocals lift to the track to another stratosphere of heartfelt expression - this is sure to go down a storm with the late summer crowd.

Gold Wave (1-sided 180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MDDLTD12 02. Rel: 02 Sep 19
  1. Gold Wave (11:09)
Review: Dinky-Di is a modern disco ensemble conducted by Waq Takahashi with just a few key releases spread out across the past 15 years. Now Million Dollar Disco main man Al Kent has cherry picked one of the hottest jams from their oeuvre and given it a special rub down - the kind of treatment that warrants a single-sided 12" no less. In Al's hands, 2005 track "Gold Wave" becomes a sizzling party monster that romps along for more than 10 minutes. With scintillating peaks, heavyweight drum breakdowns and sumptuous musicianship throughout, this is how an epic disco bomb should sound in 2019.

  2. Track 2 (6:53)
Review: A mysterious white label from a mysterious source with no details or even track titles. All we know is that there are only 200 copies and that they absolutely bump. "Track 1" is a real heads down driver with a well-known female vocal ghosting through the groove while "Track 2" brings home a job lot of funk with a much looser, off-grid groove and a breakdown to melt into. Get lifted.

  3. Whatcha Gonna Do (Marcel Vogel remix) (6:01)
Review: The latest transmission from the Lumberjacks stable taps up London-based producer Alan Dixon, who tackles a soul-stirring gospel belter from Frank Booker on the A side. Whatever your spiritual persuasion, "Rise & Shine" can't help but inject a little joy into your life. On the flip, Dixon turns the piano house power up to 11 with the life-affirming thrust of "Whatcha Gonna Do", featuring Maleke O'Ney on vocal duties. Completing the set, Lumberjacks head honcho Marcel Vogel drops in a remix that twists the original into a loose and limber jazz-funk-house odyssey of epic proportions.

Cat: SSR 214. Rel: 27 Mar 19
  1. Good Edits (part 1) (4:34)
  2. Good Edits (part 2) (4:08)
Review: More from top-drawer rework merchant DJ Soopasoul, whose cheeky revisions on his Soopastole label are consistently on point and dancefloor-focused. For his latest trick, the long-serving DJ/producer has decided to apply his magic to one of the greatest disco records of all time and a "foundation record" of the hip-hop scene: Chic classic "Good Times". The A-side edit sounds like it has been created using the multi-track parts, as dubbed-out vocal sections ride stripped-back grooves and portions that variously showcase the track's original strings, Nile Rodgers' guitars and Bernard Edwards' killer bassline. The flipside "Part 2" version is similarly minded but more like a disco dub in feel and execution, with the maestro drenching vocal sections in delicious amounts of delay.

  1. Stages (5:57)
  2. Stages (Prins Thomas edit) (8:32)
Review: New Norwegian label Neppa launches with something rather special: a timely reissue of the headline cut from South African jazz musician Don Laka's 1986 EP "Stages Of Love". The track is reminiscent of some of countryman Hugh Masekela's work from the same period, with Laka conjuring up a breezy, dancefloor-ready synth-pop/electrofunk workout rich in thrilling electric piano solos, heady vocals and funk-fuelled synth-bass. Scandolearic overlord Prins Thomas gets busy on the flip, serving up a superb re-edit that stretches out the original's groovy instrumental parts before introducing the vocals. As usual with the Full Pupp boss, the edit tends towards the epic (it clocks in around nine minutes); however, given the quality of Laka's original an extension was well overdue.

Review: Perth legend Dr Packer is back with more boogie-down edit action from the disco inferno on "Waves Of Funk". It's definitely summer in the city on the super fly "Cozmic Funk" with its catchy vocals, captivating string arrangement and Stevie Wonder style bassline followed by the familiar groove and stomp of "Funk Of The Future". On the flip, we're loving "Skin Title Funk", which gets deep, down and dirty with a sleazy guitar solo leading this neon-lit arrangement directly into the stratosphere. Hot off remixes for Glitterbox, Defected and Midnight Riot - Dr. Packer has definitely got your prescription ready with this one!

Review: More good value goodness from the Editorial label, one of the few re-edit focused outfits that manage to retain a high level of consistency. The Funk District kicks things off with a fine re-arrangement of an organ and electric piano-focused chunk of sweaty dancefloor soul ("An Evening With El Diablo"), before Matt Hughes gets busy with some elastic slap bass on flash-fried disco-funk revision "Get Down". Elsewhere, Label regulars Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee dip the tempo on the slow and seductive "Slippin", the Owl stomps his way through the P-funk style heaviness of "Funky Feelin" and Cody Currie offers up a hazy sample-house cut rich in jazzy flourishes and warm electric piano chords.

  4. Dave Gerrard - "Turn It Loose" (5:23)
Review: The latest missive from Fingerman's Wax Digits imprint - the occasional vinyl offshoot of the digital-only Hot Digits label - is something of an all-star affair. It features contributions from some of the best-known talents in the contemporary re-edit scene, with solid results. Fingerman and Slync kick things off with "Saft Junk", a cheery, Chic style slab of summer disco goodness, before Hotmood takes aim at "Fake D.Js" via bumpin' grooves, fluttering flutes and swirling orchestration. Andy Buchan's "Dope D'Man" is a slap-bass-sporting nu-disco jam that joins the dots between King Bee's "Back By Dope Demand" and the original disco record it sampled, while "Turn It Loose" is a relaxed shuffle through laid back and loved-up funk grooves.

Review: Under the now familiar DJ Rocca alias, Luca Roccatagliati has been serving up Italo-disco, Balearica and boogie-influenced nu-disco cuts for the best part of 15 years. It's something of a surprise, then, to find that "Isole" is his debut solo album (his previous full-length excursions were made in cahoots with Dimitri From Paris and Stefano Ghittoni). It's a colourful and hugely enduring affair, with Rocca flitting between percussive, synth-bass-propelled nu-disco goodness (Rodion hook-up "Nassau"), Balearic-minded soundscapes ("Tokyo", the acid-flecked "Favignana"), delay-laden, proto-house style New York electrofunk dubs (standout "Stone Town", produced alongside Dimitri From Paris), tropical-tinged late night jams ("Taquile") and electro-fired early '80s Brit-funk ("London").

Review: After a quintet of volumes dedicated to exploring 1970s and '80s yacht rock, blue-eyed soul and pitched-down disco, the Too Slow To Disco Crew has decided to bring the story bang up to date. To do this, DJ Supermarkt has put together a compilation showcasing contemporary French music that draws huge influence from the lazy, sun-kissed retro sounds that has always been the series' trademark. There's much to admire from start to finish, from the sugary sweetness of Poom's "De La Vitesse A L'Ivresse" and the sensual throb of Catastrophe's "L'Amour Tout Nu", to the lolloping nu-disco cheeriness of DJ Supermarkt and Jack Tennis' rework of Bertrand Burgalat's ""Les Choses Qu'On Ne Peut Dire A Personne", and the fluttering synth-pop breeziness of Bleu Toucan.
