Review: Far Out Monster Disco Orchestra, Daniel Maunick and David Brinkworth's whole-hearted tribute to 1970s Brazilian disco, last showcased its celebratory, sun-kissed wares way back in 2014 via an eponymous debut album that's still capable of setting the pulse racing. Black Sun, the outfit's second album, contains another superb selection of authentically played and produced disco songs and instrumentals. Check, for example, the blissful jazz guitars and heavy "walking" bass of "The Two of Us", the richly orchestrated and horn-heavy "Step Into My Life" and the spine-tingling, piano-fired breeziness of "Flying High", whose seductive female vocals are smothered in just the right amount of reverb.
Review: Cosmic-minded Brazilians get busy with Razor N Tape for Record Store Day with an artistically presented eight track collection of native edits and originals. Charming from the off-beat funk of "7 8 E 1", we're soon hammered by the steady stamps of "Botoque", massaged by the come-to-bed soul of "Formula 1" and whipped into a shamanistic frenzy by the percussion-fuelled "E Um Barato". Complete with a cheeky little 7" brother - that features the acid slapping Latin club smasher "Margarida" and the ghetto-busting funk of "Blaus" - these are the type of packages RSD was invented for. Party time.

Review: For the latest volume in their crate-digging disco series, Under The Influence, Z Records has turned to long-serving British brothers Simon and Robin Lee AKA Faze Action. In keeping with the series' dusty-fingered ethos, there's plenty of brilliant rarities to set the pulse racing - see the smooth '80s boogie of Leston Paul's "All Nite Tonight", the up-tempo hustle of Oscar Perry's "Body Movements" - as well as a smattering of obscure versions of classic dancefloor hits (check Michele Claire's version of "In The Bush"). You'll also find a smattering of killer Faze Action edits, too, with their version of Midway's "Set It Out" and Mikki's freestyle-era boogie ham "Dance Lover" standing out.
Review: Back in the heyday of the Scando-Disco scene, Jann Marius Dahle had a flurry of records as Fjordfunk and under his own name. Rightly recognised by the leaders in that scene, he's been quiet for the best part of 20 years, but now he returns with the stunning, fully-rendered wonderment of "Infinite Zest". This is an album bursting with colour and musicality, as gorgeous instrumentation meets with tenderly executed disco with a distinctly Norwegian mood. From the starry-eyed synth interplay of "Alina" to the noodling funk of "Nussing", Marius Dahle's skill as an arranger and producer is a revelation. A well-deserved, long awaited return to the fray from a rightful peer of Prins Thomas, Lindstrom et al..
Review: Cordial Recordings in partnership with Pilier Records are proud to announce the return of Philadelphia's legendary Mr Garfield Fleming, with this mini album of new productions. Fleming only released about three singles sporadically between 1981, 1984 and 1991 - but he's an incredibly under appreciated artist, we know that much. All female vocals are performed by fellow Pilier recording artist Mz. Nina. Featuring the sexy deep-funk of "Ain't Nothing Too Good For My Woman" - this one is a true diggers delight for those in the know! The late night boogie-down vibes of "Daddy's Home" or "Is That OK" takes things down slo-mo territory and of course we've just got to mention that terrific Daft Funk Funktion Creep Rub (yep!) of "Grass Ain't Greener".

Review: The Freekwency quartet are back with their second LP and, as you'd imagine, it's another high-calibre boogie trip that filters down into house and electro - precisely what you need on a mid-August weekender! Seal The Deal is choc-a-block with cameos, from peeps like Myles G or Francoise D'Argent, who respectively explore all the various elements of proto-house - from the vintage house of "I Can't Help Myself" to the classic, SAM-style boogie of "Gotta Give Up (My Love)". In essence, this album is a sure way to get people dancing, and by people we mean everyone in the damn room! Not a bum track in sight on here, so dig in and have a boogie or two...

Review: Given the brilliantly simple concept behind this fine compilation - contemporary Detroit producers remix Funkadelic - we're rather surprised nobody's done it before. With 17 varied re-rubs stretched across three slabs of wax, there's naturally plenty to enjoy. Highlights come thick and fast, from the deep house/P-funk fusion of Alton Miller's take on "Get Your Ass Off and Jam" and Andres' loose, hip-hop influenced revision of "Music For My Mother", to the thrusting loops and heady late night hypnotism of Anthony Shake Shakir and T-Dancer's version of "Standing on the Verge". While many of the versions stay relatively faithful to the original, the more "out-there" interpretations - see BMG's outer-space ambient dub of "Maggot Brain" and Moodymann's epic revision of "Cosmic Slop" - are also consistently impressive.
