Time For Change sis the dazzling Italo disco opera with shooting arps, tinny retro future synths and 80s drum machines sound powering it along. Steamy vocals add further allure. Review: It is now 40 years old but copping a reasonably priced vinyl version of Faxe's 'Time For Changes' is still a tough ask. But no need to worry because ZYX have got this super reissue version out in time for its 40th anniversary. It comes with the dazzling original version complete with silky Italo arps and chilly retro drum machine sounds and also an instrumental, plus the usual remixes from Flemming Dalum on the flip. He extends the breaks and makes the tune a little more suited to contemporary DJ play.

Review: Razor-N-Tape is a bastion of deep house brilliance as once again perfectly exemplified by this vibrant new package from Flamingo Pier. New Zealand collective Flamingo Pier have dropped several well received 12"s on the Soundway Records label and then came good with 2021's self titled full length. They are still all about bringing happy, sunny vibes to a tropical disco template here with the likes of the synth lead 'How 2 Feel' then funky vocal pumper 'Remedy'. There are cosmic rays lighting up the big chords and aloof vocals of 'Beneath The Neon' then a couple of remixes on the flip bring more dubby disco-house sounds.

Review: Last year, obscure 1980s soul singer Garfield Fleming returned to action with a mini-album of tracks co-produced by modern boogie maestro Simon Tappenden AKA Ourra. Here we get a chance to savour once again his 1981 debut single, the much-sampled "Don't Send Me Away". It's something of a "groove"-era boogie classic, all told, with Fleming's superb lead vocal rising above sweeping orchestration and a chunky groove. It also boasts a seriously good breakdown in which Garfield's repetitive chorus vocals ride a stripped-back but percussive groove. Turn to the flip for the solid original B-side "You Got Dat Right", a jaunty slab of disco powered by honky tonk style pianos and a superb "walking" bassline.

Review: The Florence label actually started a decade ago back in 2023 and it has not rushed things in that time, so only now is it making its way to a 15th outing - although it also now has a 7" funk off-shoot. This one is another cultured deep house sound that recalls the work of Hamburg's Smallville crew. It comes for the in house production outfit and is cuddly and deep to start with, then disco laced and utterly feel good on 'Bphect' and dark and more tech edge on the trippy 'Cphect'. Last of all is the curiously hard to define but swaggering deep house of 'Dphect' which we think samples... Cliff? Four beguiling tunes.

Review: A real doozy of an early Italo, proto-darkwave heater from Fred Ventura-led Fokewulf 190, bound to illicit dancefloor devastation any darn time of year. Straddling the boundary between the more uptempo chapters of Italo and the more austere permutations of synth pop, Fokewulf's timeless anthem lends itself well to DJ Tin Tin and Flemming Dalum's respectful but gently modernised remixes. If anything though, they cast the original in a more innovative light, with its sparse, classy drive.

Review: Argentina's The Force (aka. the duo of Ignacio Marty and Telzen - not to be confused with the moniker of Chicago house and electro stalwart Jesse Saunders) returns for another future disco EP, 'The Rise Of Poseidon II' via the London-via-Berlin label Calypso's Dream. Much like its wonderful predecessor 'Video Center / Galactic Alliance', this one hard-drives through four crude but shocking sonic Tron-terrains, privileging plucky 8-bit hooks and space-age transitions, whether on the offbeat synth donks of lead track 'Harold' or hard 'pressed disjoint of 'Pit Box Mens'. All deep-sea pearls here, and discoverable only by the worthiest of snorkelers.

Review: Best Records has got some superb reissues dropping right now, just in time for summer, and Mike Francis's brilliantly Balearic soul cut from 1982 is next up. This effortlessly heartwarming vocal track was produced by Paul and Peter Micioni and emerged from the Italo Disco scene in Italy on the heels of a former big hit with the Metropole group. However, on this project, he worked under a new stage name but didn't lose any of his creative edge. 'Love Has Found You' is impossibly laidback and lovely with its carefree melodies and 'Nighttime Lady' is a mid-tempo slow burner with funky low ends and a nice playful vocal full of love.

Review: The French pop scene is vast and full of treasures but Claude Francois is one of its more mysterious and mythical characters. He was active on the scene from the 60s until he was taken away too soon in a sad domestic accident in 1978 having been a trained percussionist and something of a teenage sensation. He sure did know how to write some killer grooves, though, and in fact co-wrote and sang the original version of what would become 'My Way,' no less. This one, 'Alexandrie Alexandra' was recorded in October 1977 and now gets some special reruns from the one and only Dimitri From Paris who brings the joyous disco goodness.

Review: As one of the most cherished of all house tracks ever made, you have to be careful who you ask to remix Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle's 'Your Love'. Darius Syrossian recognises this as he offers a contemporary version of the track on this 12", threading a chunky, lightly swung tech house back bone to the track and slipping some breakbeats in underneath those dizzying emotional peaks in the track. Meanwhile Alan Dixon creates a version that holds closer to the original and simply beefs up the drums and threads some fatter synths into the mix. Meanwhile Knuckles himself teamed up with Eric Kupper to form Director's Cut in 2011, and their version appears here as a subtle update to the power of the original.

Review: Blair French is the next quality artist to make their debut on the increasingly vital MotorCity Wine imprint out of Detroit. He brings hints of Balearic as well as signature smoky deep house from the 313 to his work here. 'Ancestarians' (Physical Mix) also has pan-African influences, jazzy melodies and rich organic percussion while the Spiritual Mix is all about going deep into ambient bliss. 'Champagne Kiddie Pool' then looks even deeper into the musical niches of South America with dembow rhythms overlaid with lively claps and cosmic chords. Last of all is 'Sandbox Fossils with driving bass from James Simonson and guitar from Ryan Gimpert.

Review: When sourcing material, the prolific Tropical Disco edits and rework series has largely relied on a small handful of reliable producers, most notably Sartorial and Moodena. Significantly, neither are present on this action-packed four-tracker, with the imprint instead showcasing the work of some genuine rising stars. Javi Frias kicks things off in fine style via the gently beefed-up, low-down disco-funk sleaze of "Push Me", before Hurlee adds a humid South American twist via the carnival-friendly hedonism of "Brasilia". Over on the flip, Fun Kool aims for arms-aloft peak-time disco perfection on EP highlight "Jam Now", while Brothers In Arts' "What's Wrong" is a filter-sporting slab of weighty disco-house goodness.

Out of print for over 40 years, 'Love Money' was a staple of the New York underground scene, spun everywhere across the city from Larry Levan's Paradise Garage to David Mancuso's Loft. With a low swung, funk-geared groove, 'Love Money', is a truly timeless track, encapsulating the sheer energy of disco, funk, and proto-house across eras. On the B-side, Bo Kool's '(Money) No Love' is a track steeped in historical significance - it's one of the earliest examples of UK rap. With nods to the reggae and dub culture at the root of the UK's club scene, it's no surprise to learn the track was produced by Jamaican reggae DJ and producer, Tony Williams. Review: Leading Italian disco outlet IRMA is back with more irresistible and dazzling goodness, this time courtesy of Funky Destination with some pretty standout remixes. 'Take It Down' opens up as a new version by LTJ Xperience that has percolating funk lines and slow, sensuous grooves. 'Mr Bong' (Louie Beat Re-work) is a more percussive number with brilliant drumming and sunny melodies and 'Take It Down' offers a sensuous soul sound and some psyched-out guitar riffs.
