  1. Glamouflage (take II) (8:48)
  2. Glamouflage (feat Schaltkreis Wassermann) (8:22)
  3. Glamouflage (Kuniyuki Takahashi Jungle remix) (8:50)
  4. Glamouflage (feat Colten Decker - Gary Martin Teknotika remix) (7:03)
Review: I Robots first unveiled the original version of "Glamouflage", a heavily percussive, occasionally tribal disco roller built around layered drums, psychedelic guitars and a rubbery bass guitar motif, back in 2016. Two years on, they've decided to give it a new lease of life via a swathe of fine new interpretations. I Robots handles the first remix himself, serving up a "Take II" version that's arguably even more percussive, stripped back and psychedelic. Our favourite of the new mixes comes from Kuniyuki Takayashi, who turns in a steamy dub disco interpretation smothered in mazy Moog solos and breathy chanted vocals, though Gary Martin's Teknotika rework featuring Colten Decker - a wickedly hypnotic mix of chugging techno rhythms, layered hand percussion and snaking sax solos - is also rather good.

  2. Vizitoz (6:50)
  3. Plus One (6:43)
  4. Vizitoz (Lizards remix) (5:52)
Review: The Not An Animal crew follows up excellent releases from Man Power, James Hadfield and Ian Blevins last year with this 12" of soaring 80s-inflected dancefloor boogie In:State & Giuli. It's actually a dreamy remix of "Vizitoz" from Lauer that opens up the 12" before the pulsing, wavey throb of the original kicks in. "Plus One" on the B side chops up the beat a little, but the same fulsome synth lines shape out the track. That leaves it to Lizards to wrap the record up with their own version of "Vizitoz", bringing a motorik thrum to the track that should nudge it into the bags of all manner of DJs from the cosmic warm-up crew to the EBM-favouring techno peak timers.

  1. Indovina Key - "Suy Taysik" (5:24)
  2. Guillaume De Bois - "Sequence Fiction" (5:11)
  3. Cherrystones - "Grunts Breakfast" (7:24)
  4. Maybe Tonight - "Tribuna Politica" (4:19)
Review: After a first volume that included Smagghe & Cross and Tom Bolas, Duca Bianco are back with another round of deviant disco delights for discerning diggers to get down to. Indovina Key's "Suy Taysik" is an insanely catch slice of synthy-disco, while Guillaume De Bois bathes in the sludge, all held together by some gorgeous full-fat leads. The omin-present Cherrystones brings a heavier tint to the B side with the clattering pots n' pans vibe of "Grunts Breakfast" and then Maybe Tonight bring a serious dose of 80s madcap sampling and boogie funk to "Tribuna Politica".

  1. Queen Of My Universe (3:15)
  2. Up (3:59)
Review: The first of two major Infinity licences from AOTN this month, this is a significant excavation even by renowned digger label founder Fryer's standards. Usually seen passing hands for well over 500 quid, this second and last single from the relatively unknown troupe Infinity is a stone cold jam that's been sought after for many many years. Absolute rare groove sleaze on the bass and horns, "Queen Of My Universe" sparkles with soul in every element. Meanwhile "Up" strips things back even further with an uptempo disco twang and tight Q&A vocal play between the band. Infinite love for this one!

Party Man (7")
Cat: ATH 064. Rel: 14 Jun 18
  1. Party Man (3:41)
  2. Put Everything In Place (4:00)
Review: The second of two AOTN Infinity 45s, AOTN dish out another superb reissue from the late 70s US seven-piece. Serious funk soul once again; "Party Man" lives up to its name with a thumping groove, slinky slap bass licks and big call and response vocals. Instant feels. "Put Everything In Place" is a little more restrained but still very much party minded with its absurdly lavish bass walks, jaunty piano and delicious Faze-O style falsettos. To Infinity and beyond!

  2. Pietnev - "Nathan" (5:52)
  3. Dreem Lion - "Acid Se Con Do" (6:23)
  4. Alex Le Fan - "Mambo Jambo" (4:34)
Review: Less than three months have passed since the first volume in the Cult Edits series arrived in stores, but already the Multi-Culti crew has rustled up another quartet of weird and wonderful reworks. We're particularly enjoying the bizarre chanted vocals and druggy electrofunk flex of Inigo Vontier's brilliantly madcap "Cha Cha Cha", though the dense, post-punk Afro-tribal romp that is Dreem Lion's "Acid Se Con Do" is also superb. If percussion-laden heaviness is your thing, be sure to check Alex Le Tan's rework, which brilliantly breathes new life into a chant-tastic chunk of carnival ready drum circle insanity.

Bicicla (Touch You) (white vinyl 12")
Cat: WOLFW 003. Rel: 26 Jun 14
  1. Bicicla (Touch You)
  2. Get High (feat Charli James)
  3. Love Beat (feat Tom Trago)
  4. Datsun Drive (feat Freekwency)
Review: Given that his finest releases have all offered an authentic but pleasingly off-kilter take on '80s boogie and raw synth-soul, it's something of a surprise to see Australian producer Inkswel popping up on Wolf Music, a label that has - for the past couple of years at least - been firmly focused on capturing the house zeitgeist. The fact that it's a departure for both parties seems to have got the best out of Inkswel, who delivers another inspired - and varied - set of tracks. Highlights include the fuzzy, soul-flecked slo-mo house of "Get High", the deliciously saucer-eyed Balearic boogie of "Love Beat" (written with Dutch producer Tom Trago), and a thrillingly low-slung chunk of off-kilter boogie (the rubbery bass, woozy synths and MPC beats of Freekwency collaboration "Datsun Drive").

  1. Instant Funk - "I Got My Mind Made Up (You Can Get It Girl)" (T Groove remix) (4:43)
  2. First Choice - "Love Thang" (T Groove remix) (4:52)
Review: Here are two absolute gold standard Salsoul classics given a new spruce up thanks to the remix skills of T Power. Wisely, they've chosen to take a softly softly approach to such sacred material, but there's a little extra dancefloor oomph where it counts to make these tracks pop off that little more against more modern fare. First up is Instant Funk's evergreen classic "I Got My Mind Made Up (You Can Get It Girl)", and on the flip it's the impossibly perfect "Love Thang" by First Choice. Both have never sounded better - full credit to T Power for doing this one right.

  5. Culture Rescue Service (5:09)
Review: Here's a record perfectly suited to the Emotional Rescue sphere. International Noise Orchestra was born out of a collaboration between Berliner Ulrich Homberg and Algerian drummer Jol Allouche, first embarked on in the 1980s when they sought to combine 'new technology with old'. The results are wonderfully vibrant, evocative of the era but also packed with open-ended experimentation that sounds fresh more than 30 years later. There's a push and pull between the collaborating parties, but the frisson between cultures and methods is where this record gets its unique groove from, all delivered with a slick 80s cool it's hard to resist.

  2. Trust Doesn't Rust (5:48)
  3. Knightmares (6:33)
  4. Not A Drop To Drink (6:00)
Review: Earlier this year, Luca Di Mateo donned the Italo Brutalo guise for the first time in three years, delivering a tidy EP on Bungalo Disco that's well worth a listen. This speedy sequel is similarly ear-catching and piled high with shimmering, synth-heavy goodness. For proof, check opener "Taniacid", where vibrant, NYC freestyle inspired synthesizer motifs and wild TB-303 acid lines ride a thickset, arpeggiated Italo-disco bassline. He successfully dips the tempo on the pleasingly chugging and spacey "Trust Doesn't Rust", before opening side B with the more hard-wired, acid-flecked Italo-disco revivalism of "Knightmares". Rounding off another rock-solid EP is "Not To Drop A Drink", another moody affair that reminded us of early 1980s Italian horror movie soundtracks.

Review: The Tropical Disco crew is back with more disco funk from all around the world. Moodena opens up with "Jezebel" with its big horn stabs and knotted bass riffs that will make you move and groove. Sartorial ups the sexy sax, pump the drums and get steamy on "Night Shade" before things take a more cool and breezy turn on the sliding and gliding grooves of Conan Liquid Presents The Crates Motel Collective's "Gotta Scratch". For those who like the big licks, stomping kicks and diva cries, Igor Gonya comes through with some gold to close things out.

  2. Iron Blu - "Oiche Shamhna"
  3. Cage & Aviary - "Lean On Me" (Felix Dickinson Foolish dub)
  4. Posthuman - "Make More Man"
Review: Just as the new football season settles into it's groove, the fourth edition of the highly collectable Rothmans arrives sporting some high profile signings! Leading the way on The Claudio Gentile Release is a Foolish Felix dub of Cage & Aviary's "Lean On Me" whose deranged acid gurglings provide a nice contrast to the thrusting Escape From East London stylings of Posthuman's "Make More Men". On the flip Ali Renault returns for Rothmans duty with the Weatherall worthy "The Black Heart" whilst Iron Blu is loaned from Flight Recorder for the synthy swamp of orchestral drama that is "Oiche Shamhna"

Review: Malmo's Honey Butter Records is run by Sune & Vitamin D, and they call out to friends from far and wide on their new various artists EP. 'Pelican Disco' features five tracks that range from jovial jazz and disco delights to downright machine stomp. Starting with Liverpool's Lucas Welle (Roots For Bloom) who delivers the lo-slung groove that is "By All Means", while Just Baker also appears on the A aide with the late night boogie-down antics of "Dreamin'". On the flip, we've got Tilman & Will Buck with some rather hypnotic slo-mo percussive action on "Untitled Island" followed by Aussie larrikin Jad & The with the emotive deepness of "Phife Tip".

Review: Superior Viaduct receive another hats-off from us here at Juno HQ, and it's safe to say that these guys are the best archivalists of the last 5 years, having licensed everyone from Craig Leon to Alice Coltrane, and now one of the most sought after bands of the no wave...wave. Richard McGuire and the gang appear here as both Liquid Idiot and Idiot Orchestra, two monikers they used during their formative years, a small pocket of time during the late '70s where the band would play at cult NYC venues such as CBGB's and Mudd Club. The LP is split in two parts, according to the alias, and this rare bundle of songs spans furious flurries of free jazz improvisations, raucous guitar experiments, and shards of noise coated in a jazzy layer of instrumentation. The Idiot crew are bound to resolve any of your outsider needs because this is the absolute tip top. Hotly recommended.
