Review: It's been 22 years since the release of I-F's razor-sharp Dutch electro anthem, "Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass". Given the upsurge in interest in electro of late, it's little surprise to see the man himself offering up this reissue, which is focused around two previously digital-only revisions that first landed back in 2010. Stretched out across the A-side is the brilliant - and undeniably mind-altering - "XL Remix", a nine-minute revision that gives greater prominence to the producer's twisted electronic riffs, industrial strength melodies and dusty drum machine percussion. This time round, it comes accompanied by both a vocoder-free Instrumental take and "Pong's Run", a lesser-known collaboration with Intergalactic Gary that's slow, spacey, out-there and thoroughly intoxicating.

Review: I Robots first unveiled the original version of "Glamouflage", a heavily percussive, occasionally tribal disco roller built around layered drums, psychedelic guitars and a rubbery bass guitar motif, back in 2016. Two years on, they've decided to give it a new lease of life via a swathe of fine new interpretations. I Robots handles the first remix himself, serving up a "Take II" version that's arguably even more percussive, stripped back and psychedelic. Our favourite of the new mixes comes from Kuniyuki Takayashi, who turns in a steamy dub disco interpretation smothered in mazy Moog solos and breathy chanted vocals, though Gary Martin's Teknotika rework featuring Colten Decker - a wickedly hypnotic mix of chugging techno rhythms, layered hand percussion and snaking sax solos - is also rather good.
Review: Slovenian space cadet Ichisan returns to the scene of the cosmic crime as he revisits select cuts from last year's superlative debut album Aperitiv. All equally velvet, "Hotel Jama" feels even more welcoming with its glistening strings, "Modri Tunel" is all about the deep dubby dynamics while "Kozmetika" while have you hot shoe shuffling quicker than you can say vibraphone. Finally "Terminal E" will fly you first class to wherever your head needs to be. Stunning, as always.
Review: Glasgow's Ooft! continues the FOTO-X series on his label with a sure shot 12" that presents two tracks sure to nestle their way into all manner of on-point record bags for many moons to come. First up is iLO who plays the long game with a yearning and burning slice of deep house that starts out stripped and subtle before blossoming into a fully-fledged vocal delight. Ooft! takes care of the B-side with a boogie-tasting get down entitled "Howard's Way" which will get heads nodding and bodies popping to a bassline that calls to mind Evelyn King's much loved "I'm In Love" low end destroyer.
Review: The Not An Animal crew follows up excellent releases from Man Power, James Hadfield and Ian Blevins last year with this 12" of soaring 80s-inflected dancefloor boogie In:State & Giuli. It's actually a dreamy remix of "Vizitoz" from Lauer that opens up the 12" before the pulsing, wavey throb of the original kicks in. "Plus One" on the B side chops up the beat a little, but the same fulsome synth lines shape out the track. That leaves it to Lizards to wrap the record up with their own version of "Vizitoz", bringing a motorik thrum to the track that should nudge it into the bags of all manner of DJs from the cosmic warm-up crew to the EBM-favouring techno peak timers.
Review: Dr Love is a veteran tastemaker and vinyl junkie on the Montreal scene, while Laura Ingalls is a wandering French person of no specific sex that has recently landed in the French Canadian city. They both bonded over their love of anything disco and poutine: the main local dish which consists of potato, cheese curds and gravy. Dr Love likes to dig, but doesn't really produce while Laura Ingalls is not the most efficient digger and only seems to unearth old Folk and obscure Arabic music for their personal collection - but has serious production skills. On "Oh Mon Amour" they sample a very hard to find classic from the famous Parisian disco Le Palace in the early 80's: when it was released while "Weekend Mouille" is an odd jazz disco thing from the mid 70's. On the flip, "Soul Ma Coco" is said to be a cover of a certain Manu Dibango track. This version kept the melody and changed the lyrics slightly.

Review: Salsoul has always been good at getting contemporary producers to reinterpret classics from its bulging catalogue, with recent years bringing fresh edits and reworks by The Reflex, Moplen, DJ Pope, Dimitri From Paris and Late Nite Tuff Guy. Here the latter returns with a second helping of tastefully tooled-up revisions. The Australian producer kicks things off with a warm and woozy hybrid disco/house take on Instant Funk's "I Got My Mind Made Up" that's quite a departure from the original mix. Over on side B, he turns in a languid and groovy, mid-tempo house version of Orlando Riva Sound's overlooked "Body To Body Boogie" before successfully revising Salsoul Orchestra's much-loved "Ooh, I Love It (Love Break)" whilst retaining most of the original vocals and instrumentation.
Review: Thus far, Cult Edits has proved to be one of the most interesting and intriguing rework re-edits series around, with each 12-inch offering an impressive selection of cosmic, exotic and otherworldly reworks. Volume four continues on a similar theme. Manfredas kicks things off with the dirty ragga-house pressure of "Riddim", before Thomass Jackson has his way with a far-out tribal disco chugger on EP standout "Build The Bridge". Mid-'80s electronic Afro-chug is the order of the day on Balam's "Lentombi", while Inigo Vontier's "Makata" is percussive, heavily electronic, weird and undeniably druggy. In comparison, Sano's chant-along Afro-electro number "Bantu" is positively breezy.

Review: The second vinyl sampler to accompany BBE's hook-up with disco legend John Morales is just as delicious as the first, with essential takes on classics from Teddy Pendergrass, Candi Staton, Loletta Holloway and Inner Life all worth investigating. Review: Hawaiian legend Al Nobriga played a vital role in the island's club and chart scene throughout the '70s and early '80s before chasing his dreams to Nashville (and consequently shattering them). Long before the brutal crush of industry reality, he recorded several albums including They're Playing My Music in 1977 of which these two tracks come from: "My Last Disco Song" lives up to its title with it sturdy dancefloor hook and polished sense of funk while "Break Away" shows Al's softer side as we sail on yacht across positively Balearic shores.

Review: Just as the new football season settles into it's groove, the fourth edition of the highly collectable Rothmans arrives sporting some high profile signings! Leading the way on The Claudio Gentile Release is a Foolish Felix dub of Cage & Aviary's "Lean On Me" whose deranged acid gurglings provide a nice contrast to the thrusting Escape From East London stylings of Posthuman's "Make More Men". On the flip Ali Renault returns for Rothmans duty with the Weatherall worthy "The Black Heart" whilst Iron Blu is loaned from Flight Recorder for the synthy swamp of orchestral drama that is "Oiche Shamhna"

Review: Fledgling label Daje Funk is sure to turn heads with their second sizzling offering of edits, with Rome's Massimo Berardi and Mexico's The Funk District both stepping up to the buttons. Truckin' Company's "Got The Feeling" is a loopy and rolling funk gem that keeps the energy up as strings soar to the skies and a squelchy bassline keeps you locked. The Funk District takes care of the flip with a top tweak of Izk Eyes's "Ton Of Groove", which is an appropriate title: big brass sections to shake your booty, a buttery male vocal and busy guitar licks all drive it forward through big breaks and killer drops.

Review: Jules Habib aka Inkswel touches down on Berlin's OYE label - the mythical shop's releasing wing - with an album of experimental soul and disco. In fact, we'd place this in the same category as many Stones Throw releases, meaning that it's pretty much genreless and absolutely sick. We start of with a heads-down, lighters out kinda jam with a slow tempo and a hip-hop vibe, and quickly move onto bumpier, synthier disco territories that simply make you wan to move. Across its nine tunes, we also hear shreds of the Detroit school of house, and the sort of cuts that Kyle Hall likes to pull out in his sets; all in all, it's just a great piece of dance music, and a diverse one at that!
