AkizzBeatzz - "I'm An African" (3:29)
Lego Edit - "Sahara Adventures" (Lego re-edit) (4:58)
Review: AkizzBeatzz and Lego Edit join forces to mutually reinforce what they both do best: making disco edits and reworks of classic funk, soul and Afrobeat, and occassionally offering up the odd original track. The 12" 'African Groove' is a downtempo and weighty meditation on what it means to hail from the continent, with Akizz' A-side 'I'm An African' playfully laying down a diasporic big beat excursion, replete with regional instrumentation and defiant political vocal samples. Lego Edit's 'Sahara Adventures', meanwhile, works a chugging beat around a central algaita line.

Kayroy - "Identification Unknown" (feat Miela - Johannes Albert DJ edit) (6:21)
Rydim - "Fomo" (Johannes Albert remix) (6:46)
Leon Revol - "Acid Is Rolling" (Johannes Albert remix) (6:48)
Review: Frank Music look to main man Johannes Albert for the second volume of their Rarities series and he covers plenty of musical ground in the process. First up, Benjamin Frohlich's 'Tivoli' gets a super upbeat and summery 4/4 disco re-treatment to kick things off, before Albert steps up again to tackle Kayroy's 'Identification Unknown' with future-facing disco synths. The version of 'Fomo' he serves up is more dirty and danceable, with acid lines and twinkling arps. Last of all, Albert's remix of Leon Revol - 'Acid Is Rolling' is an undulating cut with muscular beats and crispy snares.

Mosaik Kollektif - "Twisted City" (5:49)
Dj Laurel - "Let The Good Time" (4:29)
Lego Edit - "Party Freaks" (Lego party dub) (5:59)
Review: You can always count on the Legofunk crew to bring you disco and funk edits from less mined sources that will absolutely rock it on the floor. On this instalment we have five different joints to get stuck into, from the slow Afro house throw down of Alexny's 'Meneao' to Siggatunez's slinky, soulful groover 'Boogie'. Look out for the low tempo seduction of DJ Laurel's 'Let The Good Time', which will get a warm-up slot thoroughly juiced for the night to come. The Lego Edit 'party dub' of 'Party Freaks' heads more explicitly towards peak-time house, but as ever it's delivered with heart and soul thanks to the vintage source material powering the track.

Alkalino - "Body & Soul" (6:35)
Love Drop - "Pull Up" (7:23)
Terrence Pearce - "Ushukela" (5:58)
Alex Zuiev - "Afro Magic" (6:31)
Review: There's no complex concept behind the latest four-track EP from the reliable Whiskey Disco camp, just a quartet of killer re-edits crying out for peak-time plays. Highlights wise, we're particularly enjoying the hard-spun Afro-disco grooves and well-placed dub delays of Alex Zuiev's "Afro Magic", though Alkalino's quirky opener - a thrillingly dubbed-out take on a tongue-in-cheek, left-of-centre disco treat - is also superb. Elsewhere, Love Drop sticks heavy new house beats underneath a stone cold classic (listen to the clips and you'll be able to identify the source material in seconds), while Terrence Pearce crafts a space-disco epic out of undulating Afro-disco grooves, bleeping synth melodies and some seriously cosmic effects.

Salem Tradition - "Kabare" (Alma Negra rework) (5:15)
Lindigo - "Tany Be" (Alma Negra dub) (8:55)
Review: For the latest excursion on their eponymous label, the Alma Negra crew is in full remix mode, in turn reworking tracks from contemporary Maloya combo Lindigo and lesser-known French Afro artist Salem Tradition. Their vocal and dub interpretations of the former's "Tany Be" are particularly special. While the dub is little more than a killer spaced-out percussion track with added delay-laden vocal and instrumental snippets, the "remix" is a near perfect fusion of woozy, spacey deep house and traditional maloya - all half-chanted vocals, snaking sax lines and warm bass. Those looking for heavy and druggy, kick-drum driven tribal Afro-house vibes should head straight for the remix of Salem Tradition's "Kabare", which is little more than loads of drums with an evocative vocal atop.

N5 From Outer Space (original Soundtrack) (7:58)
N5 From Outer Space (Summer remix) (7:13)
Funfare (original Soundtrack) (8:25)
Funfare (Summer remix) (9:58)
Review: Seattle's Medical Records kick off their new Transfusions sublabel with a 12" featuring Italian veterans Alexander Robotnick and Ludus Pinsky. "N5 From Outer Space" and "Funfare" were originally featured on the duo's overlooked 2009 CD The Analog Session, and are here presented alongside pulsating alternate versions (the 'Summer" remixes) that happily emphasize the acid influences previously played down on their original versions. Those previously released tracks gleefully update Robotnick's "robo-disco" blueprint for the Creme generation, adding the kind of sweaty, hard-wired intensity that no doubt plays well in Rotterdam basements. Of the pair, it's the ragged "N5 From Outer Space" that arguably hits home hardest, though there's a gleeful "Moroder-on-pills" feel about "Funfare" that's highly attractive.

Steven B.C. - "Nice & Slow" (4:36)
Deejay Astral - "Never Gonna Let You Go" (5:06)
Review: 2015 was the year that marked the birth of Shall Not Fade, a largely anonymous label from somewhere on the Eastern borders of Europe - and that's all we need to know. They've come through with plenty of promising new talent since last year, and this latest EP is a collaborative effort from a further selection of new producers on the scene. Aries drops a delightful little house bomb in "You Make Me Wanna" - one for the garage heads or the lovers - while LK's "It's Been A Long Time" is a scorching disco bomb filled with neat little samples. The flip sees Steven BC go for a bittersweet approach on his tight little house bomb "Nice & Slow", leaving Deejay Astral to enter the deepness with the utterly lovely and vocal-led "Never Gonna Let You Go".

Wandervogel - "Thrilla In Manila" (8:12)
Lego Edit - "Agosto D'Amor" (Lego Re edit) (5:37)
Review: Legofunk builds more bridges between beats with another four tracker from various artists. Atoz kick off with a chunky, heavyweight house tune 'Woman' which samples the iconic vocal from Nina Simone's 'See-Line Woman' tune. Musta goes for a more flailing and funky driven feeling on the afro-tinged 'Cam Run Sun' and on the flip, Wandervogel references one of the greatest fights of all-time with 'Thrilla In Manila.' No punches are pulled on this fulsome afro-disco pumper and last of all things get deep, with hip swinging claps and twirling trumpet leads all primed to warm up any club on 'Agosto D'Amor.'

Kylie Auldist & Lincoln Room - "Party At My Place" (3:27)
Review: "I'm like a monkey with cocaine" goes the vocal on the opening tune here but that conjures up images of quite a riotous scene. In fact, the music is superbly seductive, cool and calm, with low slung disco funk, lush cosmic chords and a laidback, almost aloof vocal all soothing the soul and making for some nice dance floor intimacy. After that collab between Kylie Auldist and Skinny Dipp, Kylie hooks up with Lincoln Room for 'Party At My Place' which has an odds school instrumental disco feel embellished with low slung grooves and lovely claps.

Sit On This (Bastedos edit) (7:06)
No Smoking On The Moon (AM edit) (7:38)
Magicke (Last Waltz Re-Do) (5:52)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!! Bastedos returns with more signature weirdo disco not disco (but disco) cut-up cuts.
This time the painstaking editing comes from A.M., Last Waltz, and Bastedos themselves.
Side A brings us Sit On This, a rolling, chugging, clapping, marimba-ing (!) disco workout in the vein of Material ,which pulls you along through a peaky peak time vocal, a sexed up guitar break, and some chopped-up chanting, all the way to its inevitable hands in the air Piano finale.
Side B first provides us first with No Smoking On The Moon and it's celestial choral stylings. Soft synths and tough bass play with each other beneath B-Movie fx and ecclesiastic organs. The sound of a space age disco cult... from the past.
Finishing off side B we have Magicke, the extended soundtrack to the opening of the gates of hell. Shuffling go-go perc, syncopated drums and fuzzed out chords play out under Satan's saxophone, before giving way to a damned (damned fuzzy that is) guitar, sounding out the call of Cthulu.

Review: Incognito Trax is back to drop a fifth bit of heat with this new and heavily limited 12". Once more it is a various arts affair that explores a disco tinged brand of house and tech. BB opens up with 'Zap Revelation' which has lovely vocal coos over raw beats that hark back to early Chicago house. LV's 'Faccia Gialla' has a Latin feel thanks to the lead horns and the percussive grooves and LV's 'Dream On' then goes deep with indie vocals over guitar laced grooves. Macchianera serves up the final two jams, first solo on the loose limbed 'Alle' then with Mattia C on 'Quack Quack' which is a more jazzy jam.

Slope (Lay-Far upbeat version) (5:44)
Review: Mad Mats and Tooli's Local Talk is still going strong. The Stockholm label now taps In-Beat-Ween Music main man Alexander Lay Far, who appeared last year on the label with his Communication EP. The Slope sees him collaborate with the legendary Ashley Beedle of X-Press 2 and Darren Morris. First up is "Doctor Feelgood" with its '70s inspired production complete with funk guitar, swinging live drumming and an infectiously funky synth bass. The Slope" is a more downbeat affair for chill out moments, a deep soul funk number with swirling Rhodes, dreamy xylophones and rich analogue strings drawing comparisons to Roy Ayers RAMP project. "Lay Far's Upbeat Version" does exactly what it does on the cover, injecting a funky breakbeat into said track, making it more dancefloor friendly but still retaining all its soulful glory.

Teddy Pendergrass - "I Don't Love You Anymore" (A Tom Moulton mix) (8:46)
Lou Rawls - "See You When I Git There" (A Tom Moulton mix) (9:39)
Review: During the latter stages of the "Philly Soul" era, New York remixer Tom Moulton delivered a string of inspired, DJ friendly reworks for the Philadelphia International label. For proof, check this fine selection of classic Moulton mixes for the storied imprint. Check first his version of Archie Bell and the Drells' "Where Will You Go When The Party's Over", which he brilliantly teases out and increases in intensity over nine spellbinding minutes. The funkier flex of People's Choice's "Jam, Jam, Jam (All Night Long)" is a sweaty, low-down treat, while the Teddy Pendergrass rework is a soaring disco classic in the Philly Soul style. Best of all, though, is the string-drenched disco celebration that is his mix of Lou Rawls' "See You When I Git There".

Review: Linen fresh Balearica from Swiss soul man Lexx. First up is a slight re-pointing of Bing Ji Ling's "Hanging On A String". Still fresh from his Paqua adventures, the crisp guitars and Doobie Brothers harmonies are maintained as Lexx adds more pluck to the low end. "All That Is Now" lowers the tempo a little, easing us into a steamy deep bath of fragrant pads of delicately over-layered arpeggios and more shimmering guitars. A perfectly timed summer record.

Love To The World (original mix)
Love To The World (dub mix)
Review: We're not sure what Bugz In The Attic alumni Daz-I-Kue has been up to of late but it's definitely a good look to see him revisit his Bloodfire alias. Between 2004 and 2007, he dropped six future flex rerubs of some soul and funk classics from Syl Johnson, Gil Scott-Heron, Lamont Dozier and even stretched so far as a killer refix of Lil Kim's "Lighters Up". Fast forward several years and the seventh edition sees Daz-I-Kue take on the delicate piano flecked soul of "Love To The World" by 70s funk act L.T.D. The A Side mix really hits home once the extended (and reworked) intro drops into the looped refrain over a typically punchy beat, with Daz-I-Kue expertly teasing out the orchestral and horn sections as the track progresses. The accompanying dub mix is even better, with Daz-I-Kue adding more of his own touch to proceedings via some killer searching pads and extra layers of percussion.

Review: If you're a serious disco and boogie head, you need this record in your life. It's significant, too, being the first original track from Leroy Burgess's legendary Logg act - one of the finest disco/boogie outfits of all time - since 1981. In its original form (B2), 'Dance Till You Can't' is a sublime slab of updated, house-era boogie full of superb instrumentation, wigglingacid lines, cheerful piano stabs and a typically inspired lead vocal from Burgess, who remains disco's most talented male vocalist. If you're after a more straight-up, classic Logg style boogie sound, Marc Mac's EP-opening 'Main Mix' is the version to opt for (and genuinely brilliant), while the broken beat style 'Broken Boogie Mix' will appeal to those who love Dego and Kaidi Tatham's joint productions.

Review: Not even two months have passed since label Tusk Wax released their debut EP, Tusk Wax One, so we were surprised and delight in equal measure when the second volume landed on our laps. It's another four track, limited edition vinyl, with Juno Plus 'ones to watch' alumni Chamboche opening proceedings, bridging the gap between traditional disco and modern house on "Hypnoquest". Next up, John Waynes, bass-heavy "Brotha" works a menacing electronic key sequence dappled with breathy flute and a spoken vocal for a hooky electro-ish house number. On the flip you'll find Lord Of The Isles, who takes us on a funky and sultry spoken word trip with "Fresh For You" before Jose Man invites Ilya Santana to remix "Sacramento" to close out the EP. Vintage disco at its best, "Sacramento" shoots cosmic sirens, soaring string sections and hosts a playground of synths. Top release.

Review: In the words of Futureboogie's El Harvo, they'll release nothing unless it passes the A&R ears of fast-rising house starlet Julio Bashmore - and he's "very hard to please". Given the fluid, eyes-wide-shut sound employed here, it's not all that surprising that Bashmore was keen to release this collaborative three-tracker from Bristol veterans Christophe (Redux) and Lukas (Dirt Crew). "Tearbox" blends the former's usual piano heavy, almost Balearic sound with the latter's deep house nous and just the right amount of Bashmore-ish synths. There's plenty of similarly piano-friendly, rush-inducing goodness on the two flipside solo productions. Of the two, it's Lukas' "Reel Love" - all build, cut-up vocals and colossal old skool riffage - that impresses most.

Back to the future and Master At Work man Louie Vega does the honourable thing and offers up two very distinct edits on this must grip Nervous 12". First up is the Dance Ritual mix that fully displays Vega's classic soft-but-stern jack dynamic, whilst the B side Boogie Mix veers off into more sprawling territory as the tempo eases down slightly and the attention is focused on the slinky percussion that really made the original such a DJ favourite in the first place. Review: Jose Marquez has long been a member of the Basic Fingers family. Since making his first contribution to the acclaimed re-edit imprint back in 2011, he's regularly delivered tasty reworks of Latin jams and African gems. Here he returns with two more killer Latin cuts piled high with South American percussion. "Quinto Y Bongo" smartly combines killer drums and vocals from an unknown, stripped-back salsa record with the sort of subtle, spacey synths and thickset bassline you'd normally find on a high calibre deep house record. "Canto Del Caribe" is, if anything, even heavier, with the combination of sturdy house kicks, dense Latin percussion and chanted vocals creating an intoxicating mood.

Review: A double dose of fun from Samosa Records here, as partners in crime De Gama (Stefano Gamma) and Les Inferno (Pierandrea The Professor) deliver a dancefloor delight each over two sides of wax. Gamma's solo cut "Sometimes Sometimes" resides on side A, with the long-serving Italian gleefully joining the dots between sumptuous, string-laden disco-soul warmth and filter-sporting deep house, with unsurprisingly sumptuous results. The flipside collaborative track is an altogether bolder and more peak-time ready affair. I Feel (edit - Pete Herbert dub) (4:52)
Review: 7's Clash's fourth outing is a trip into the gentle sounds of folk-rock and Americana. It is a meticulously crafted chop up of a 1970s tune with some fresh, fat drums and modern FX beefing it up for 2021 dance floors. It's got potential to work in myriad settings for early evening clubs to beach side parties. On the flip, label head Pete Herbert goes for a full Balearic vibe with the gorgeous strings floating above a more club ready groove. The vocals and deft guitar riffs add further atmosphere to this dubbed out, boat party ready, sunset calling and spaced out gem.

LL Smooth K - "Can I Get A Soul Clap" (3:55)
Review: Del Gazeebo and LL Smooth are two renowned UK producers and editors of funky breaks and hip-hop, and their renown gets a fresh renewal of this brand new'un, 'Got To Be Large'. Blending Cheryl Lynn and Ultramagnetic MC's on the A-side, Gazeebo and Smooth keep things both Real and Poppin'. On the B, obscurer samples are sifted from the ether, which admittedly leave us stumped, but rest assured that the result is just as fiery.

Released in 1980, the track is a fusion of funky basslines, infectious rhythms, and provocative lyrics that became closely associated with some of the best clubs and DJs in the world. Review: ***B-STOCK: Record has light surface marks/scratches, but otherwise in perfect working order***

Had we been able to flock to clubs and festivals this summer, this soaring disco earworm from Belgian nu-disco don and French legend Dimitri From Paris would have sound-tracked many a giddy, hedonistic moment. In its original "Extended Vocal Mix" form,"Can't Get Enough" is a sublime slice of authentically celebratory disco revivalism laden topped off with a superb lead vocal from singer Leela. The accompanying "Dubstrumental" also hits all of the right turn-of-the-80s disco dub mix notes - think extended percussion breaks, stripped-back instrumental passages etc - while Yuksek's fine remix takes the track further towards "French Touch" style disco-house territory with an added dose of delay-laden proto-house magic. Big!

Review: This new reissue from Salsoul takes us back to the first volume of what became a vital Re-edits series from disco aficionado Dimitri From Paris. The ever-green disco don really pulled it out of the bag with these. Sure, the originals are all wellborn classics, but in his hands and with an extra sprinkling of dazzling disco dust, they become new and vital once more. The standout will always be Loleatta Holloway's 'Love Sensation' but deeper heads might before the funky bass of Inner Life's 'Moment of My Life.' There are also boogie tinged, string laced gems from Love Committee and ass-shaking synth jams from Skyy.

Review: Slo Motion's Italian Dance Wave series was initiated earlier in the year, primarily to showcase "Italian artists who make music with an Italian flavour". There's naturally much to admire on this third volume, from the opening shuffle of Discodromo's stylish, mascara-clad New Wave disco jam "A Come Andromeda", to the cheery Italo-disco revivalism-meets-80s electro flex of DJ Rocca's "Backery's Track". The dancefloor highlight is undoubtedly the surging, darkroom Italo-disco throb of Le Macchine's filthy "Greg", though you'll find little as deep, dreamy and beguiling as Fratelli Riviera's wonderful "Greg". Either way, it's a fine collection of tracks.

For fans of Daniele Baldelli & DJ Harvey. File under Balearic/Cosmic/Futureboogie/Spacedisco...DJ Mooner: "It's time for a new style in dance music I think. Peru "Oriental" · A production by the dutch synthesizergroup from 1983, inspired by playful japanese productions such as Yellow Magic. Another track from the album went No.1 in Austria. Later Rob Papen became sound designer for EMU. Love International "Dance on the groove(and do the funk)" · This was a superhit in 1980 at the original Disco Cosmic in Italy. Amazing, Bohannon-influenced, heavy funk danceproduction. Special 6 minutes dance version. The Story of the italian Cosmic sound in 2 minutes: Italy, 1976 In a luxurious discotheque on the Italian Adriatic coast. Every weekend, two American DJs called Bob and Tom play records that are big in the clubs of their hometown New York City. Bob and Tom are the resident DJs at the "Baia degli Angeli", a huge club with various floors, fountains, swimming pools and lots of glitz and jetset people. Two years later, the Baia closed due to a drug raid, and Daniele Baldelli, inspired by the "Baia Sound" shortly after starts DJing in the new club "Cosmic", situated at the Lago di Garda in Northern Italy. Baldelli does not only play funk, soul and disco records. His style is unique: songs are mixed perfectly in an super slow tempo of 80-105 BPM. The music is like an LSD trip: African choirs on 45 RPM, percussion solos, bolero with delay effects, 12" singles on 33 instead of 45. A whole wave of DJs and clubs has been by Daniele Baldelli. And soon the whole of Northern Italy calls this sound "Cosmic Music". Nowadays, producers such as Lindstrom, Prins Thomas or labels like Gomma and Eskimo have been deeply inspired and try to create dance tracks that have a similar atmosphere.

Deep88 is an Italian with a loveably analogue sound that is steeped in sunset house vibes. Add the two together and you have a perfect match. The a-side here finds Deep88 turn DJ Rocca and Leo Almunia's "Ever Changing Bubbles" into a lush Ibizan beach scene with sweet yacht rock riffs, warm drums and vocals that add an exotic feel. They're removed on the dub which is even more hypnotic.

Review: B2 Recordings hits release number 13 with DJ Rocca and Lex combing on a trio of fresh house cuts that blend elements of disco, Latin and soul. Up first is the glorious 'Solid Street' which has loose and percussive disco-house grooves overlaid with big synth energy and steamy vocals. 'Solar System' is slower and deeper, with a more rugged bassline and low slung sense of funk that never lets up. 'Last of all, 'Rose Tree' is a ramshackle house arrangement with whistles, Rhodes keys, tin-pot percussion, florid flutes and plenty of sunny energy all making it a real standout. A timeless EP packed with musicality.

Fantastic Man - "The Times We Loved & Miss" (6:23)
Review: This tasty double-pack is the result of a collaboration between self-styled "renegade art publication" Toilet Paper, Nike Lab, nomadic Internet broadcaster Automat Radio and Vinyl Factory. The basic idea was to gather together previously unheard tracks from artists based in four different countries. Italy's DJ Tennis teams up with Sebra Cruz on opener "Truth Or Consequences", layering bubbly and attractive nu-disco synths over a rubbery house rhythm. London-based rising star Kiwi explores the worlds of breezy new wave and bubbly Italo-disco on the picturesque "Avocet", while Tim Sweeney and Phillip Lauer (as T&P) channel the spirit of Metro Area and Gina X on EP standout "Dance To T&P". To round things off, Aussie Fantastic Man serves up a fiendishly fuzzy chunk of chiming synth-pop/deep house fusion.

This cheeky 7" actually features two of the standout tunes from their equally essential 2019 album Aimez Ces Aires. 'El Nino' is a a real summer classic, with falsetto vocals singing about how hot it is with big horn leads and funky drums getting that party started. 'Fontaine (Drink Drink)' is a deeper cut with xylophone sounds, hand claps and a warm, organic feel that is again set to get temperatures rising this summer.

Of course, there was impetus to do so after a very big DJ played the track in a Boiler Room set. Whether this was the true the catalyst for this release, it's undeniable that the production added onto 'I Don't Want To Lose You' by the falsetto group Lime is infectious enough, essentially adding a stark FM bass to an already sparse mix. The real star of the show is the B-side, though. Sheila B. Devotion's 'Spacer' gets an unusual uptempo remix, with crude yet deep piano hooks interspersing an indeterminate, new wavey beat.

The artist is in a fine run of form right now and that continues through the slow slung bass and dazzling chords of his remix of soul-drenched opener Colors - 'Am I Gonna Be The One.' Defected's disco-minded Glitterbox offshoot has decided to dip a toe into the choppy waters (sorry) of the re-edit scene. The man at the control is fun-time rework specialist Dr Packer, an Australian scalpel specialist who has spent the last few years contributing tidy edits to a variety of well-regarded labels. First, he adds a little late '80s house shuffle to a soul-fired, boogie-era disco classic, before turning the equally familiar "Still in Love" into a bouncy, club-ready chunk of disco-house full of swirling strings and Chic-style guitars. On the flip the good doctor gets his hands a much-sampled electrofunk workout, retaining the drum delays while adding a touch of nu-disco swagger, before brilliantly dubbing out and tooling up the synth-heavy swagger of 1985 hit "I'll Be Good".
