Review: Disco editry with a touch of class from Maschio, who enlist the talent of nu-disco artist Boris Dlugosch for a re-edit of a re-edit. Of course, there was impetus to do so after a very big DJ played the track in a Boiler Room set. Whether this was the true the catalyst for this release, it's undeniable that the production added onto 'I Don't Want To Lose You' by the falsetto group Lime is infectious enough, essentially adding a stark FM bass to an already sparse mix. The real star of the show is the B-side, though. Sheila B. Devotion's 'Spacer' gets an unusual uptempo remix, with crude yet deep piano hooks interspersing an indeterminate, new wavey beat.

This time around is Dreamcast who are Davon Bryant in conjunction with Swedish guy Sasac aka King Al. Review: Andrew 'Emperor Machine' Meecham and French vocalist Severine Moultin enjoyed working on their first collaborative single, 2021's 'Dance Par Amour', so last year reunited in the studio to record a follow-up. 'Your Own Style' follows a similar sonic template, with Mouletin singing in accented English atop a typically analogue-heavy Meecham backing track laden with bubbly bass, delay-laden electric piano motifs, layered percussion and the producer's trademark synth squiggles (a feature of his work since the days he was working with Dean Meredith as Chicken Lips). The song is presented in three variations: the stretched-out and pleasingly loose 'Alternative Mix'; the sparse, effects-laden and mid-80s influenced 'Dub Vocal'; and the warmer, subtly funkier 'Fun Dub'.

Volume three is every bit as strong as its predecessors, with a quartet of experienced re-editors offering up fresh reworks. Get Down Edits set the tone with "Comin' At Ya", a riotously beefy, tooled-up house revision of an urgent funk-soul gem, before Monsieur Van Pratt gleefully dances into disco-funk territory via the spacey synths, groovy bass guitar, crunchy Clavinet licks and fluttering flute solos of "UFO". Review: A top value for money opportunity here, as Moiss Music deliver the latest in their sweet and sticky Jam series of various artist 12" line ups, bringing you no less than six bubbling, vivacious disco triumphs from six artists. Khemir's 'Disco Bandit' kicks off proceedings, a production that sounds like it was made by a band of around 45 musicians, a proper cavalcade of strings, brass, brazen disco thump and beautifully bold vocals. Wurzelholz's 'Prince' goes for a bit more economy but with a slinky funk bassline like that - not to mention the occasional exclamation from the purple overlord himself - it's equally devastating in dancefloor terms. Among the other highlights, 'Golden' by I Gemin has the feel of a lost Daft Punk flip tune and Cosmocomics' 'Glamorous Garcon', boasting 70s-style synth bubbles that are as cute as they are retro. Tasty as ever.

Review: Enjoy Your Self EP 3 is, as the title suggests, a third deep dive into the offerings of Osaka, Japan-based label Chillmountain Recordings. It has a wealth of different producers on its roster, all of whom twist up house, electronica, experimental, dub and Balearic sounds into fresh new grooves for cultured dance floors. It is tribal and percussive dub from Aki Nagase that immediately gets us locked in before Akira Arasawa & Ground combine for the sludgy and slow motion dub of 'Multi Gud Z.' Akira Arasawa's 'Dolphin' has underwater sonar sounds and watery rhythms then the EP closes on what might be the best of the lot - a percolating dub in the form of 'Dancing Pikapika.'

Review: Stefano Tirone's career as S-Tone Inc stretches right back to the dawn of the 1990. Back then, he was joining the dots between deep house and acid jazz, but over the decades since he's settled in to a groove rooted in nu-jazz and soul. On this seven-inch, he revisits two tracks from his fine 2020 album Body & Soul. First, he re-imagines 'Move On', featuring vocalist Afra Kane, as a sumptuous chunk of disco-influenced dancefloor soul - all Chic style bass and guitars, hazy horns, lilting synth-strings and crunchy Clavinets - before reframing the Toco-voiced Latin number 'Rosa De Rebeira' as a warming chunk of samba-house loveliness.

Review: Life Classics - the Berlin based edit label run by Sanctuary - is back with four more disco heaters. "Yes Baby" is first out of the blocks with some fat and funky bass riffs, golden chord smears and a vocal that hits a real sweet spot. "Wet" is a little deeper but one that will still get you in a spin with its buttery lead vocal and neat riff work. "So Much TM" is a real soul train classic with big strings and racing 4x4 disco grooves while closer "Feel Inside" is a full loved up jam with heart swelling strings and smooth vocals accompanied by lush sax lines. Review: For her latest trick, long-serving Canadian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ivana Santilli has decided to cover one of her favourite Level 42 tracks, 1983's 'Out of Sight, Out of Mind'. Her take, which includes additional lyrics she wrote especially, sits somewhere between glossy mid-80s soul and colourful boogie. It has a much more electrofunk and soul flavour than the British band's Brit-funk/jazz-funk original, which is no bad thing. B-side 'Air of Love' sees Santilli dip the tempo and charge towards the close-dance zone - all sparse, slow-motion Loose Ends beats, chiming synthesiser melodies, dreamy chords and her own impeccable, slow-burn lead vocals.

Review: 'Midnight Driver’ is the new single from London-based soft-rock, disco, and funk specialist Joel Sarakula. The track is a soft-rock fantasy in which the narrator laments his lover's nocturnal habits; Californian sun-kissed guitars, smooth vocal stylings, and Latin percussion all blend into a cinematic mood (and a great driving song). On the flipside is 'I'm Still Winning', a '70s disco-inspired track on which Sarakula is heard fully immersed in the shady underbelly of casinos and high-stakes gambling. Resembling a defiant riposte from the title character of The Eagles' 'Desperado', Sarakula sings with a vocal channeling '70s icons Boz Scaggs and Ned Doheny.

Review: Satin Finish started out as a trio of Goldsboro musicians namely Donald Oliver on keys, Joe Exum on drums and Dennis Kornegay on bass. They were all scouted to the Greenback Records label out of New Jersey by two producers by the names of George Greene and Gary D. Jackson. High school graduate Karen Scott was the band's vocalist and here she does a fine job across a pair of stunning and spine tingling cuts of soul drenched, mid tempo disco funk. 'Took A Chance On Love' has great harmonies and dancing keys to get you moving and 'Didn't Wanna Lose Your Love' is the more sentimental slow song for smoochy moments.

Review: XL Middleton is an absolute don of boogie. He can bend his synths and warp his baselines into fresh new forms and make sure than anyone who hears them has to pop their body non stop. He brings that studio mastery to a remix here of 'High Class' by Sauce Lady that is full of withering sci-fi pads, fresh vocal hooks and bright pads. His version is pretty unbeatable to be honest but on the flip the Slynk mix has a fine go of remixing it with a more upbeat and strident groove.

Review: While putting together last year's brilliant Tokyo Nights - Female J-Pop Boogie compilation, Cultures of Soul commissioned boogie revivalist Saucy Lady to record fresh covers of two of her favourites from the set. The Japan-born American has predictably done a bang up job. We're particularly enjoying the vocal and instrumental covers of Minako Yoshida's "Town"; while both contain a few contemporary touches - the beats are naturally closer to house than the '80s original - the synths, vocals and production touches are all faithful to the Saucy Lady's source material. She slows things down a little on the flipside, pushing her vocals to the fore on a gentle and rubbery cover of Toshinobu Kanesaka's "Honey Bee". Superb stuff, all told.

Review: Soul, disco, funk and boogie all combine to superb effect here on this new one from Savoir Faire on Miles Away. The A-side is a glorious two-stepper with Cassandra Wright's next-level vocals shining bright up top next to a deeper male vocal as the drums and funky bass unravel on 'Holding On.' Flip it over and the pace picks up but the soul remains high on 'You're The Best' which has a more yearning vibe and hip swinging claps next to lush strings and call and repose vocals over a squelchy boogie bassline. Review: Schatzi is the edit label run by parent imprint Let's Play OHOuse in Brooklyn. This eighth volume of dance floor bombs is another essential one for those looking to light up the club. There is squelchy synth-funk on the international opener with its gorgeous backing vocals and lead Portuguese verses. Review: It was way back in 1977 when disco collective Seaquence made their debut on Aidqueen Records, a tiny, independent label based in their home city of San Diego, California. That debut, a delightful but extremely hard to find "45", has long been in demand amongst deep disco collectors, hence this timely reissue on Athens of the North. The real killer is A-side 'Disco Thing', a tight-but-freewheeling chunk of disco-funk piled high with alternate male/female vocals, loose-limbed drum-breaks, punchy horns, swooping strings and squelchy synth sounds. Original B-side 'Your Love' is a deeper and far sweeter affair - a traditional flipside slow jam that's as tear-jerking as it is effortlessly soulful.
