  1. BT (Brenda Taylor) - "You Can't Have Your Cake & Eat It Too" (Greg Wilson edit) (9:08)
  2. Forrrce - "Keep On Dubbin'" (Greg Wilson edit) (5:17)
  3. Raw Silk - "Do It To The Music" (Greg Wilson edit) (6:37)
  4. Shirley Lites - "Heat You Up" (Melt Down mix - Greg Wilson edit) (7:19)
Review: West End's double-pack re-edit series continues, with long-standing UK electrofunk hero and scalpel rework specialist Greg Wilson sharing a quartet of revisions. There are airings for two of Wilson's most sought-after scalpel works from the "Credit To The Edit" series - superb versions of Brenda Taylor's "You Can't Have Your Cake and Eat It Too" and Raw Silk's "Do It To The Music" - as well as a couple of previously heard rearrangements that are on-point as per usual. Wilson first adds even more mind-altering delays and low-slung dub disco flavour to Forrrce's "Keep On Dubbin'", before superbly stretching out the mostly instrumental "Melt Down Mix" of Shirley Lites' synth-laden peak-time classic "Heat You Up".

  3. Napo De Mi Amor - "Cacatchoule "Berceuse Bassari"" (3:04)
  4. Sewavi Jacintho - "Miade Dua" (5:35)
Review: Hot Casa's latest must-have release is a veritable smorgasbord of Togolese treats. It focuses specifically on obscure soul music made in Togo in the 1970s, with two hard-to-find original cuts being joined by two contemporary re-edits of similarly obscure classics. The EP opens with Bosq's smooth, dancefloor-focused tweal of Yta Jourias's breezy, horn-heavy tropical soul workout "Adome Nyueto", before Pushin Wood takes over and adds a little contemporary electronic bounce - and some particularly colourful synths - to Roger Damawuzan's "Loxo Nye". Over on side B, Napo De Mi Amor's "Cacatchoule Berceuse Bassari" is a fuzzy soul shuffler rich in bright, Juju style guitar solos, hazy vocals and Hammond organ stabs, while Sewavi Jacintho's "Miade Dua" is a sweatier and heavier concoction powered by loose-limbed drumming and sun-kissed instrumentation.

  1. This Ain't Really Love (4:19)
  2. Check It Out (The Mighty Zaf edit) (6:07)
Review: Kalita Records are proud and honoured to announce the first ever official reissue of the Sophisticated Ladies' sought after 1980 New York disco single. The short-lived outfit consisted of Emma, Laura and Reather, who released two singles between 1977 - 1980. They toured America (while also touring internationally as The Bobbettes) and received radio airtime throughout the country. Here Kalita have chosen to highlight their scarce cut "This Ain't Really Love" and have invited The Mighty Zaf to rework their version of Bobby Womack's "Check It Out" making it perfect for modern disco dancing.

  10. Nicky Siano - "Move" (5:45)
  11. Indian Ocean - "School Bell/Treehouse" (10:13)
Review: Second time around for Joey Negro and Sean P's peerless collection of post-punk era New York club cuts, a compilation that proved hugely influential when it was first released way back in 2000. The track listing strangely omits one track present on the original release (the full 16-minute version of Steve Miller Band's "Macho City"), but otherwise it's a faithful reproduction. Highlights come thick and fast throughout, from the eccentric electrofunk of Yoko Ono's "Walking On Thin Ice" and P-funk influenced strut of Material's "Over And Over", to the skittish jazz-goes-dub disco bustle of Don Cherry's "I Walk" and the low-slung percussive voodoo of Nicky Siano's "Move". The undisputed master of NYC leftfield disco, Arthur Russell, is represented via cuts from Loose Joints, Dinosaur and Indian Ocean.

Review: Dallas-based vocalist, producer and percussionist Enois Scroggins has found musical success later in life. Despite his vintage - he's an '80s soul and funk survivor with roots in the scene of the '70s - it's only in the last decade that he's begun to release acclaimed material. Real-E sees him join forces with revivalist electrofunk duo The Touch Funk for a cheery romp through synth-laden boogie-funk pastures. As you'd expect, it's musically on-point, with Scroggins' lyrics and vocals perfectly complimenting the Touch Funk's analogue synths and drum machine rhythms. Along the way, they pay tribute to P-funk, electro, boogie and synth disco, with a string of handpicked guests swinging by to lend a hand.

Review: Seaquence was a short-lived disco-funk and soul outfit from San Diego who only ever released one album via private press. That album, Mix Fade, has long been considered something of a slept-on classic amongst record collectors, so it's little surprise to see it finally get the reissue treatment. The set boasts a swathe of absolute gems, from the heavy disco-funk madness of "Get Down Party" and Blaxploitation soul swing of "Good, Better, Best", to the hot-steppin' jazz-funk of "Dance, Dance, Dance" (which boasts some sublime and wild synth solos) and simmering, sunshine soul sensuality of "Life".

Review: Claremont 56's latest must-have LP comes from an unexpected source: blue-eyed soul, AOR and soft rock loving Greek four-piece Sillyboy's Ghost Relatives. The good news is that "In A Small Place" is every bit as good as the title track, which Paul "Mudd" Murphy's label released earlier in the year. The album's main attractions are undoubtedly the bittersweet lyrics and hazy, lovelorn vocals of main man Sillyboy (real name Charalambos Kourtaras), though the musically evocative backing provided by his band mates is equally as impressive. Highlights include the Boz Scraggs-esque "Muscle Cars", the Steely Dan sing-along that is "High Life" and the gently reggae influenced lilt of "Favourite One". It's all pretty tidy.

Review: In recent times, crate-digging hero Andy Smith has turned his attention to the world of disco and boogie, showcasing the depth of his collection as part of the Reach Up collective. It seems fitting, then, that his latest compilation - a triple-vinyl epic - should explore the disco and electrofunk gems lurking in his vast vault of records. There are a few well-known gems (Disco Dub Band, World Premiere, Freedom and Sure Thing's modern electrofunk anthem "Holding Me Tight", for starters), but far more overlooked or slept-on gems (Advance's boogie killer "Take Me To The Top" and Jimmy Bo Horne's "Is It In" being great examples). The collection also boasts a couple of tasty re-edits, including an unheard one by Smith and pal Nick Halkes of Jimmy Ross's Paradise Garage anthem "First True Love Affair".

Review: Keyboard wizard Chris McDowell set a few hearts fluttering with his 2014 debut 45 on Austin Boogie Crew Records, the kaleidoscopic modern boogie gem "Reesis". Four years on he's finally ready to unleash the follow up, which also happens to be his debut album. Stylistically, the set sits somewhere between Dam-Funk, Onra and Herbie Hancock's more intergalactic moments, with McDowell - assisted by brother Ian and a swathe of vintage synthesizers (a full list is naturally included on the sleeve) - laying down some killer solos over sparkling, beat-rich synth-scapes. Highlights are plentiful, but make sure to check out the cheeky (and rather good) instrumental cover of Bill Withers' "Just the Two of Us".

Review: The Dewale brothers first proper studio album in 12 years, From Deewee has been one of the most anticipated and warmly welcomed albums of the year. Unless you've been asleep or on another planet since March you've probably already streamed or download it... But nothing beats the vinyl treatment as it brings the one-take, non-stop recorded session concept to life with weight and a rich sound their analogue machines were invented for. Featuring drums from both Sepultura's Igor Cavalera and Turbowolf's Blake Davies and some of their most timeless, hooky fusions, this is a remarkable return from one of electronic music's most influential acts.

Review: Crown Ruler Records co-founder Jeremy Spellacey is highly regarded within the crate-digging community, primarily for his ability to sniff out copies of obscure - but, naturally, high quality - boogie-era disco records from Africa and the Caribbean. On this fine compilation, Spacetalk has offered the New Zealander the opportunity to showcase some of those finds, alongside a smattering of better-known favourites and more recent cuts (see Mike Fabulous's overlooked modern boogie gem "Wang East"). Predictably, Spellacey has delivered the goods, serving up humid, exotic and loved-up gems galore, including the fluttering brilliance of Stimela's "I Love You", the marimba-laden Balearic boogie of Feladey's "Forest Music" and Devon Russell's impeccable reggae-soul cover of Curtis Mayfield's "Move on Up".

Review: Released in 1989 at a point when Donna Summer's chart-topping disco days were well behind her, "Another Place & Time" is perhaps not Donna Summer's best-known or more celebrated album. It was produced by UK hit-makers Stock, Aitken & Waterman and contains their distinctive blend of polished synth-pop melodies, Italo-disco style arpeggio bass and Hi-NRG inspired grooves. Summer's vocals are superb throughout. What makes this 35th anniversary edition most interesting is it's packed with alternate versions and bonus cuts, including a string of dancefloor-focused remixes that draw greater influence from contemporaneous house music. Of these, it's Clivilles & Cole's superb NYC piano house revision of "Love's About To Change My Heart" that stands out.

Review: In 1983, Frederic Gassita returned to his native Gabon after six years spent studying music in France. He wasted no time in forming a band called Surprise and recording an album. The set sank without trace at the time but has here been resurrected by the dusty-fingered crate diggers behind BeauMonde Records. It's definitely worth a listen. It's a little smoother - and certainly better produced, sound-wise - than many boogie-era West African recordings, with the quartet offering up tracks that effortlessly join the dots between smooth '80s soul, bubby jazz-funk, boogie, synth-pop, zouk and life-affirming tropical disco. It's a fine set, with "Ogoue", "Butter Fly" and "Will You Be The One" standing out.

Review: Finally in on triple vinyl! Given the fashion for library music, disco noir and the synth-heavy soundtrack work of Goblin and John Carpenter, it was probably inevitable that Italians Do It Better would dip their toe into cinematic waters at some point. Themes From An Imaginary Film is their contribution to the oeuvre - an all-star collection of melodic synth doodles, atmospheric compositions and faux cinematic themes produced by Chromatics/Glass Candy men Jonny Jewell and Nat Walker. Its 37 tracks are, predictably, impressively evocative, variously recalling sounds and styles previously employed by notable synth composers Vangelis, Jan Hammer, Claudio Simonetti and, of course, John Carpenter.
