Attack The Dancefloor Vol 16
  1. Akabu - "Ride The Storm" (feat Linda Clifford - Saison remix) (7:21)
  2. The Love Symphony Orchestra - "Let Me Be Your Fantasy" (Dr Packer remix) (7:31)
  3. Joey Negro Presents The Sunburst Band - "Everyday" (JN Disco Re-Bump remix) (7:28)
  4. Art Of Tones - "Flower Child" (feat Anduze) (7:01)
Review: Like its numerous predecessors, 16th edition of Z Records' long running "Attack The Dancefloor" series is packed to the rafters with tried and tested dancefloor treats, most of which have never appeared on vinyl before. First up, Saison tackles Akabu's 2001 classic "Ride The Storm", turning it into a deep, bouncy and rubbery chunk of lilting, string-drenched house goodness, before Dr Packer delivers a subtly tooled-up take on The Love Symphony Orchestra's grandiose and sexually-charged 1978 disco classic "Let Me Be Your Fantasy". Label head honcho Joey Negro provides a superb deep disco rework of one of his own productions, the Sunburst Band's 2004 summer sing-along "Everyday", while Art of Tones' "Flower Child" is a flash-fried, disco-funk romp laden with superb lead vocals from Anduze.

  1. Two Thou - "Group Technology" (with Alberto Collodel)
  2. Autre - "Cosmic Roots"
  3. Two Thou - "SOL"
  4. Autre - "Futura"
Review: The Fields & Forest label has so far aligned itself with the stellar Russian label Udacha, featuring Dices, A5 and Cuisine Dub, but things are taking a turn into new territory with the inclusion of Autre and Two Thou with two tracks a piece on this new slab of wax. Two Thou's "Group Technology" is a snappily shaped, 80s influenced groover with some interesting timbres falling into a dynamic groove, while "SOL" shows another side to the artist with a snaking slice of jazz funk infused experimental techno. Autre's "Cosmic Roots" is a more esoteric, new age gilded slice of ambient house while "Futura" ramps up the saucy synths for a silk-tongued charmer of a warm-up jam.

Philadelphia International Classics: The Tom Moulton Remixes Part 2
  1. Archie Bell & The Drells - "Where Will You Go When The Party's Over" (A Tom Moulton mix) (9:06)
  2. People's Choice - "Jam Jam Jam (All Night Long)" (A Tom Moulton mix) (7:42)
  3. Teddy Pendergrass - "I Don't Love You Anymore" (A Tom Moulton mix) (8:46)
  4. Lou Rawls - "See You When I Git There" (A Tom Moulton mix) (9:39)
Review: During the latter stages of the "Philly Soul" era, New York remixer Tom Moulton delivered a string of inspired, DJ friendly reworks for the Philadelphia International label. For proof, check this fine selection of classic Moulton mixes for the storied imprint. Check first his version of Archie Bell and the Drells' "Where Will You Go When The Party's Over", which he brilliantly teases out and increases in intensity over nine spellbinding minutes. The funkier flex of People's Choice's "Jam, Jam, Jam (All Night Long)" is a sweaty, low-down treat, while the Teddy Pendergrass rework is a soaring disco classic in the Philly Soul style. Best of all, though, is the string-drenched disco celebration that is his mix of Lou Rawls' "See You When I Git There".

Cat: OTLR 001. Rel: 13 Nov 20
  1. Heartbreak (4:25)
  2. 6000 Ft (5:40)
Review: Simon 'Bonobo' Green launches his own label Outlier, operating under the umbrella of Ninja Tune, the label - along with Tru Thoughts - that he's been most closely associated with. To kick things off, he's cooked up something suitably sizable with pal Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Lead cut 'Heartbreak' is an absolute beast and sounds like a future anthem in the making. Supposedly intended as a tribute to NYC disco but arguably nothing of the sort, it sees the pair pepper a bustling, bass-heavy, rave-style breakbeat groove with organ stabs, sparkling synth sounds and choice vocal snippets from Classic Action classic 'Weekend'. They explore far deeper, drowsier territory on the atmospheric, melody-driven flipside, '6000 Ft', once again opting to employ waves of colourful electronics and chunky low-end sounds.

Dreamworld Fantasies
  1. Dreamworld Fantasies (4:13)
  2. Stay Off The Moon (2:33)
Review: Bill Brown and Al Hall jr met in 1971 in south central LA and shared the same flat as jazz man Doug Carn and Brownstone vocalist Billy Wilson. They often played together and some of the sessions gave rise to the two hard to find tracks offered up here. 'Dreamworld Fantasie' is a first release of an unissued 1977 disco and soul gem that muses on how we'd all like our lives to be - and right now such escapist vibes have never been more in need. Flip it over and you'll find a rare though previously released 1971 single 'Stay Off The moon', which delivers a poignant political message that resonates to this day.

  3. Balam - "Carnaval Acido" (6:00)
  4. Tyu - "Negra" (5:28)
  5. Akimbo - "Batucada" (4:24)
Review: Multi Culti's Cult Edits series returns to bring you some saucy, sizzling surrealism from the outer reaches of the groove. Nicola Cruz is up first with the humid beatdown and transcendental acid undertones of "Cartomante". Asa Moto keeps things clammy but driving with the African pulse of "Safari Glove" while Balam takes things in a more wigged-out synthwave direction on "Carnaval Acido". Tyu's "Negra" turns the heat up higher with a massive low end throb and plenty of chuggy pressure for ultimate dancefloor escapism. Akimbo completes the package with the feverish carnival atmosphere of "Batucada", which of course piles on Latin drums and plenty more besides.

A collection of producers, DJs, promoters, and electronic music enthusiasts alike, they hail out of Milan and their main three sound designers have produced a track each. First up is Ayce Bio with the funked-up and sexy house of "Jazz Affair", Borbo with the lo-slung and jazzy disco on "Your Ex" and finally Turenne with the dusted-down and smooth deep vibe of "1000" Punti".

Review: More good value goodness from the Editorial label, one of the few re-edit focused outfits that manage to retain a high level of consistency. The Funk District kicks things off with a fine re-arrangement of an organ and electric piano-focused chunk of sweaty dancefloor soul ("An Evening With El Diablo"), before Matt Hughes gets busy with some elastic slap bass on flash-fried disco-funk revision "Get Down". Elsewhere, Label regulars Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee dip the tempo on the slow and seductive "Slippin", the Owl stomps his way through the P-funk style heaviness of "Funky Feelin" and Cody Currie offers up a hazy sample-house cut rich in jazzy flourishes and warm electric piano chords.

Review: Remix time! Tom's Terisa Griffin-fronted smoocher "Magic (Spell On Me) from his 2017 album "Divas Got Soul" gets a surprise remix treatment from some of Japan's finest groove craftsmen. First up is the legendary Yuki "T-Groove" Takahashi, picking up where his remix of Tom's "Soul Life" left us, it's a full-on feel-good explosion that refuses to quit. 3. Shake That Body (remix) (6:24)
Review: It may have taken the best part of six months, but Glenn Underground has finally delivered his first new music of 2020. The Chicago house legend is in fine form on "Shake That Body", a warm and jazzy chunk of deep house/disco fusion rich in tasty instrumentation and topped off by a fine female lead vocal courtesy of newcomer T.H.I.C.K. It's accompanied on the A-side by the superb "Dubbl" version, which sees Glenn Underground strip the track back to a killer dub disco groove before bringing back the keys, acoustic guitars, spacey synths and snippets of T.H.I.C.K's vocal. Over on the flip you'll find a seductive "Remix" that subtly moves the track closer to deep, soulful house territory.

Review: If you need sweet and sticky pudding to satisfy the most gluttonous palettes in the party, leave it to Dessert Island Discs to bring the three course meal home. They're back with another two pastry chefs well versed in the art of disco glazed delicacies, kicking off with Herb Flavour's full-fat funk rub up "The Real Thing". It's bold and voluptuous and more than a little celebratory. Meanwhile on the flip Ted Empleton gets busy with the honey-coated perfection of Candido's "Jingo" which he re-bakes as a feisty house stomper, "Dingo Jingo". This is some seriously delicious business that will have the masses rubbing their bellies with approval, best believe.

Review: UK born, Australia based DJ and producer Dr Packer is back with more of his on point edits. He tackles some serious disco heavyweights here on Salsoul and first off, disco diva Loleatta Holloway and her mega-hit "Runaway" gets a fresh 2020 update with some soul uplifting studio skills. A heavy funk remix of Rafael Cameron's "Let's Get It Off" is next, with the original still taking centre stage, then the shimmering and glistening disco gold of Ripple's "The Beat Goes On" follows before in-house collective The Salsoul Orchestra also get treated to some elegant orchestral work and a sultry vocal hook.

  5. Scruscru - "Surfin' On Hokusai's Waves" (5:04)
  6. Buzz Compass - "That Nighter" (4:49)
Review: Belarus' Iner launches a new label with a strong cast of international names all pushing a deep and distinguished strain of house music for those who want soul and invention in equal measure. Tilman is up first with 'Sweet Dreamer', a mellow, looped up roller. Sune's 'Flutes' takes a breezier approach shaped out by fluttering jazz funk motifs. Yann Polewka celebrates the sweetest Philly strings and some classic vocal licks for a disco-infused burner you can't help but love. Iner himself keeps things loose and organic on the wonderful 'Respectfull Kind Music', while Scruscru goes for a sleek approach to chopped up funky house. That leaves it to Buzz Compass to get heady and hazy with the bass-leaning cuts coursing through 'That Nighter'.

  2. Ari Bald & Martín Miguel - "Every Body Party" (6:09)
  3. Tilman - "Thinkin Of It" (5:22)
  4. Higgins - "Looking Back" (7:55)
Review: More from NYC party crew Kaviar Disco Club, who follow up their rather fine debut EP of reworks with a second selection of pumped up, floor friendly tweaks. To kick things off, they offer up a previously unheard "Well Being Dusted" mix of vintage Jevantte cut "Mr Piano Man", breaking up the beats a little to bring the deep house cut's smooth grooves bang up to date. There's more of an old school disco flavour elsewhere across the EP, with Ari Bald and Martin Miguel's smooth, rolling house take on a horn-toting, synth-heavy electrofunk classic ("Every Body Party") being followed by the bumping, hard-spun disco-house thrills of Tilman's "Thinkin Of It". Higgins' "Looking Back" takes a similar approach, with the producer working his magic on a soaring orchestral disco workout.

  3. The Sunburst Band - "New York City Woman" (Micky More & Andy Tee Piano intro) (1:18)
Review: Italy seems to have no end of edit labels and now Groove Culture throws its name into the hat with this inaugural release. It finds Micky More & Andy Tee team up over three different cut and paste jobs, with JC aka Dave Lee aka Joey Negro's version of Diana Ross's classic 'Love Hangover' up first. Little changes but for the re-sung vocal, more strident groove and drawn out break down, but that's still enough for you want to hear it. The Sunburst Band's 'New York City Woman' then gets a rework which is deep and steamy for the late night hours, and an a cappella is also served up to close things out.

Review: Premier revisitations from hot to trot Parisian love station, the ninth edition continues to dig deep into the realms of the long-lost and highly collectable. The lead track, KIC's "Don't You Want My Love", for example, now fetches triple figures. Elsewhere SPG's "Loveland" is a fly-by-night falsetto funk shakedown while 24 Karat Gold's rare "New Love" struts with stunning string stabs and an energy that flares from zero to glitterball in two bars. TCB Band's "Children Of The Future" closes the sneaky session with a sweet harmonic hot chocolate soul. Blink and you'll miss it.

Review: 'Hotel Sorriso' is Kraak & Smaak's first new track since releasing their latest album. It is the latest bit of bottled sunshine on the DJ Supermarket run How Do Are You? label which is associated with the excellent Too Slow To Disco series. As such its grown up Balearic bliss only rom this pair, with skyward synths and nice and gentle grooves carrying you out to sea. Turbotito is an artist better known as Poolside, and he certainly serve sup poolside sounds here - lush chords, airy vocals and grown up disco beats that are classy and escapist. Review: This essential EP gathers together some of the highlights from "Take It To Church", a digital-only compilation from the Showfa packed with gospel-fired dancefloor treats. We're particularly enjoying Yam Who? and Alan Dixon's fantastic new rub of The Soup Dragons "I'm Free", which re-casts the track as a righteous, sing-along friendly slab of peak-time gospel disco bliss. Elsewhere, Le Visiteur does a great job extending percussion breaks and slowly ratcheting up energy levels on superb gospel disco re-edit "Let The Sunshine", Alan Dixon's "Got To Be" is a breezy chunk of gospel-house/disco fusion and Jack Tennis' "The Light" is a filter-sporting slab of piano-rich sweetness that should put smiles on plenty of faces before the year is out.

Review: Thus far, Cult Edits has proved to be one of the most interesting and intriguing rework re-edits series around, with each 12-inch offering an impressive selection of cosmic, exotic and otherworldly reworks. Volume four continues on a similar theme. Manfredas kicks things off with the dirty ragga-house pressure of "Riddim", before Thomass Jackson has his way with a far-out tribal disco chugger on EP standout "Build The Bridge". Mid-'80s electronic Afro-chug is the order of the day on Balam's "Lentombi", while Inigo Vontier's "Makata" is percussive, heavily electronic, weird and undeniably druggy. In comparison, Sano's chant-along Afro-electro number "Bantu" is positively breezy.

Bad Luck/Don't Leave Me This Way (Tom Moulton Mixes)
  1. Bad Luck (Tom Moulton mix) (7:59)
  2. Don't Leave Me This Way (Tom Moulton mix) (11:01)
Review: This release features two of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes' recordings that typify the cream of Philadelphia International and Sigma Sound studios' dominance of the dancefloor - at the absolute height of their creativity and power. They were one of the most popular groups on Gamble & Huff's label, clocking up a number of hits in the mid 1970's. "Bad Luck" spent 11 weeks on the No.1 slot on Billboard's U.S. Dance chart in 1975 and has since become one of the biggest dancefloor staples ever recorded. It gets a remix by the master Tom Moulton for added club dynamics. On the flip, we have the original full version of the classic "Don't Leave Me This Way" which is also mixed to perfection by Moulton. Both are state of the art lessons in what exhilarating dance music is all about. Fully remastered on limited edition 180 gram heavyweight vinyl.

Love Is The Message
Cat: 4ZH 06924P. Rel: 28 Jun 17
  1. Love Is The Message (12' version) (11:31)
  2. TSOP (The Sound Of Philadelphia) (Special 12' version) (5:49)
Review: MFSB was an American studio band formed by producers of the Philadelphia International Records label. The label was founded in 1971 by Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff in Philadelphia. This is an official 12 inch re-release of probably the most revered Paradise Garage anthem of all time. Originally released in 1973, "Love Is The Message" has sustained dancefloors across the world ever since and here Prime present the full original mix from the master himself: Tom Moulton, which is very rare, as any seasoned digger could attest to. On the flip is "T.S.O.P. (The Sound Of Philadelphia)" aka the official Soul Train theme, again using Moulton's original mix.

Easing
Easing (12")
Cat: SNDW 12037. Rel: 21 Jun 19
  1. Easing (8:04)
  2. Easing (version) (6:49)
Review: George and Glen Miller are undoubtedly best known for their West End Records released 1982 boogie-soul classic "Touch Your Life". They released plenty of other records that flitted between soca, reggae, disco, and - in the latter stages of their career - electrofunk. "Easing", which appeared at some point at the turn of the '80s on London label Third World, remains one of their most potent releases - and, in its original form at least, formidably hard to find. This Soundway reissue wisely replicates the track list of the original release, beginning with the title track - a deliciously percussive, musically intricate chunk of peak-time disco smothered in sharp, Afro-funk style horns and George and Glen Miller's lilting reggae-soul style vocals. The flipside "Version" strips out the vocals, allowing listeners to hear in greater detail the pair's impeccable arrangements and instrumentations (particularly the fine orchestration and rich groove).

Only You (12")
Cat: SNDW 12025. Rel: 28 May 19
  1. Steve Monite - "Only You" (Frankie Francis Disco Jam edit) (7:55)
  2. Tabu Ley Rochereau - "Hafi Deo" (Nick The Record & Dan Tyler re-edit dub) (10:15)
Review: Edits in the hole! Two Afrofunk gems enjoy floor-primed refocuses: Steve Monite's Doing It In Lagos-featured "Only You" gets a little juice from Sofrito's Frankie Francis who really brings the bass out in proceedings. Meanwhile on the B Nick The Record and Idjut Boy Dan Tyler tweak the energy and sheen of Tabu Ley Rochereau's "Hafi Disco" as the drums are given a little more momentum and the chorus and horns are really brought to the centre of the action. Stunning.

  2. Igor Gonya & Crack D - "Two-Piece Orchestra" (6:34)
  3. The Funk District - "Watcha Gonna Do" (6:11)
  4. Paul Older - "Love" (6:35)
Review: Super Spicy is a new Mexican label committing some serious heaters to wax. Helmed by Monsieur Von Pratt, the label boss himself sets the tone with opening track 'Forever Funk' on this various artists 12". The vibe is clear from the outset - classic disco-flavoured house music with oodles of soul and good vibes by the bucketload. Igor Gonya & Crack D get busy with the filters on 'Two-Piece Orchestra' and The Funk District take a more delicate edit approach to stomping peak-time burner 'Watcha Gonna Do'. Paul Older's 'Love' is the perfect swooning closer to the record, romantic and triumphant in equal measure for a proper hand-waving release of energy.

  3. Conan Liquid Presents The Crates Motel Collective - "Gotta Scratch" (7:33)
  4. Igor Gonya - "Caprice Mood" (4:38)
Review: The Tropical Disco crew is back with more disco funk from all around the world. Moodena opens up with "Jezebel" with its big horn stabs and knotted bass riffs that will make you move and groove. Sartorial ups the sexy sax, pump the drums and get steamy on "Night Shade" before things take a more cool and breezy turn on the sliding and gliding grooves of Conan Liquid Presents The Crates Motel Collective's "Gotta Scratch". For those who like the big licks, stomping kicks and diva cries, Igor Gonya comes through with some gold to close things out.
