Review: Leo 'Zero' Elstob has been pretty prolific of late; offering up all manner of re-edits and remixes on both vinyl and CD. Here he turns his hand to original production, utilizing a range of old drum machines, samplers and tape machines to create loopy DJ tools and filter-heavy club smashers. With nods to disco, boogie, acid house and loop techno, Very Repetitive sounds like a long lost jam session between Thomas Bangalter, The Revenge, Switch, DJ Sneak and 80s NYC tape edit maestros The Latin Rascals. In truth, home listeners may find it a little hard going after a while, but there's more than enough floor-friendly fodder to keep party-minded DJs happy.

Review: Leo Elstob is a man of many talents. Not content to be an in-demand graphic designer, re-edit maestro, nu-Balearic stalwart and remixer to the stars, he's now taken to producing new music at a furious rate. This is something like his 25th album in two months (OK, we jest, but you get the idea). It sees him return to his house roots with a robust and at times punishing collection of floor-friendly percussion workouts, retro-futurist deep house doodles and, most thrillingly, some genuinely brain-melting acid tweakery (see the Phuture on crack madness of "Komputa Gamez", "Take It Off" and "The Room"). There are some genuinely great moments, with the African drums and hip-house vocals of "Warehouse Style" providing a fitting climax.

Review: The past 18 months have seen Leo Zero's name become synonymous with the phrase "good remix that" as artists disparate as the Modfather, Florence & the Machine and Metronomy have called on him for typically unique reimaginations. Couple this with the veteran producer's prodigious output of illicit edits which have impressed on the dancefloor and the internet in equal measures and it's not hard to conceive why his forthcoming album Acid Life is so eagerly awaited. Ahead of that impending release Leo rounds up some of his most highly sought after edits across two CDs here. On the first, Mr Zero showcases his respected skills as a DJ weaving between twelve edits which sometimes bridge the gap between old and new with aplomb (Stevie Wonder vs Empire Of The Sun for example) and keeps the groove consistent throughout. Budding mutant disco DJs will be more interested in the second CD which is unmixed and gathers nine of the aforementioned rarities in newly remastered form. Starting off with the midnight sax shuffle of his re work of The Police you get the killer Prefab Sprout edit (An end of night standard at Disco Bloodbath) interspersed the low slung psychedelic chug of his Rat Salad "Clapping Song" and perhaps the piece de resistance that is "Message Of Love" featuring the distinct tones of one Freddie Mercury. A strictly limited one off pressing which comes housed in the distinctive artwork of Leo Zero himself makes this a worthy purchase.

Review: Iconic label Strut have really hit their stride in 2010 with a veritable slew of retrospectives, compilations and artist albums covering everything from disco to Sowetan Jazz. They round off a fine year with the auspicious introduction of a new series of mixes called Disconnect with Leo Zero at the helm. The concept behind this series is to invite Strut's favourite DJs and producers to explore the darker, more extreme corners of their record collection. Armed with this creative freedom, Leo Zero has delivered 75 minutes of delightfully subversive music that sets the standard high for subsequent volumes. Commencing with the lilting afro beat of Desmond & The Tutus - surely Tigersushi's most underrated act? - Leo draws on his fifteen years experience as a DJ and producer with a Balearic mix in the truest sense, veering effortlessly between spiky 80s punk funk, reggae that sound tracked Zero's Soulsonic parties, a Sting cover version, nu beat chuggers, kraut rock and EBM throbbers. This is an invitation to consume the lesser broadcasted reaches of a record collection you should not turn down. Golf claps to Strut for including a bonus CD that has eleven of the tracks in unmixed format!

Review: French duo Zombie Zombie has always been one of Versatile's more eccentric acts. Inspired by a mix of Krautrock, Italo, synth-wave and John Carpenter style horror disco (their last album was a set of cover's of the director-turned-musician's work), they continually produce music that's both hard to place and thrillingly exciting. Rituels D'N Nouvelle Monde once again gathers together these influences and makes them into a coherent, anything-goes whole. Like previous sets, there's much to admire, from the rising freak organ and military drums of "L'Age D'Or" and shuffling Giallo-goes-kraut vibes of "Black Paradise", to the hissing slasher disco of "Illuminations".
