For recording, production, mixing and mastering, there are all sorts of reasons why you might want to use headphones, whether it’s monitoring while using a microphone, getting a different reference sound or simply keeping the noise down late at night.
There are two main types of studio headphones: open-backed designs and closed-back. Open-backed headphones sound a bit more natural, but sound does spill out of them thanks to the open design. Closed-back designs are slightly less accurate, but offer much better isolation.
Studio headphones need to sound good, but they also need to feel comfortable for long sessions.
