Supplier's Notes:
The Percussion Interface (PI) and PI Expander are a pair of Eurorack modules that generate gates and envelopes from acoustic drums, samplers, drum machines, and virtually any audio source.

Converting microphone, instrument, line and modular signals into CV and clock/gate signals, the PI and PI Expander are suited for synchronizing sequencers or other modules to the rhythm of an audio track or live percussion. The modules can simultaneously be used as a pre-amp for microphones or line-level signals, while generating inverted envelopes useful for side-chaining. The PI module contains all the core functionality and can be used without the Expander to conserve space. The Expander requires the main PI modules and adds three gain stage options, a modular-level audio output jack, a 1/4" (6.35mm) input jack, and envelope attenuation capabilities. The two modules are only sold together, they are not available separately.

Notes: The RS-650 Echo / Reverb is a combination of the RS-310 and RS-440 which are based on the same circuit.

It offers both delay (echo) and reverb settings in one module. It is based on a bucket brigade device (BBD) with six parallel delay taps. Those six delay times have no relationship to each other and their outputs have different levels. You have to consider the reverb effect as a mixture of six different short delays what results in a dense sound. The clock frequency which scans the bucket brigade is audible and you'll have to use a low pass filter in order to eliminate or minimize it. In Reverb mode the delay time can be set between 2.5ms and 150ms and in Echo mode it spans from 75ms to 200ms.

Notes: This module contains about 5 modules in one. You get a lot of features. This is using a Phase Lock Loop based internal patch to create the oscillation (LFO). I then give you access to the clock divider used in the Phase Lock process. Think of this module as a 'phase lock loop for dummies'. Just play and forget kind of module. No menu diving or complicated stuff to remember.

This LFO can go audio rate or really slow using the toggle switch to decide LFO/HFO mode. There is an internal CV switch for you to select from 6 wave forms. The special wave form is the step generated wave. It sounds like a quantized ramp wave, and moves at half the overall internal lfo rate. There is a nice Level out knob to control the LFO wave output. This LFO has very HARD sync, that will reset the lfo.

The other half of this module contains a clock divider that also uses a CV selectable output. The clock divider can also go audio rate and sound like a sub harmonic generator when in audio rate. At very high frequencies (FREQ knob fully clockwise), the clock divider will lock up, this is due to the cmos chip, this is normal.

The clock divider can be used with internal clock or external clock.

This is a fun performance type of lfo with just about all the features an LFO should have. There is 1v/ octave tracking of about 4 octaves when used as an oscillator. This product is for most part more of an LFO. The best patch one can do with this product is a 'cross' patch from the Phobos Lunar LFO, and have it patched to your Oscillator module. Then patch your oscillator to the CV waveform select on the Phobos. Hear what your oscillator sounds like, it will blow your sound pallete.

The module features voltage controlled resonance. For filter group 2 (2L, 4L, 2B ...) even self oscillation is possible. All standard VCF controls are available: manual filter frequency control Frq, one control voltage input with attenuator (FCV2)and one without attenuator (FCV1, ~ 1 V/octave). In addition voltage controlled resonance with manual control (Q) and a CV input with attenuator (QCV) are available. The circuit is based on a 24dB lowpass filter. The outputs of the four internal filter stages (i.e. the 6, 12, 18 and 24dB outputs) are mixed together with different levels and polarities to obtain 15 different filters. Because of this special circuit the outputs have slightly different levels and noise floor. This is caused by the different internal amplifications and numbers of stages that are required to generate the filter in question. If e.g. a filter is derived by one stage only (e.g. the 6 dB, 12dB, 18dB and 24dB low pass) the noise floor is smaller compared to a filter that is derived by a combination of all four filter stages. The module generates a distorted audio signal if the level control is set to about 50% (i.e. center position) or more with A-100 standard signals like VCOs.

Doepfer A-118-2V Noise & Random Slim Line Vintage Edition Module

Notes: Module A-118-2 generates the signals white noise, colored noise, continuous random voltage and stepped random voltage.

The noise signal is generated 100% analog by amplification of the noise of a transistor. White and colored noise are usually used as audio sources. The random voltages are normally used as control voltages (e.g. for filter frequency or any other voltage controlled parameter).

The A-118-2 gives you the ability to mix the relative amounts of Red and Blue noise (low/high frequency component) in the colored noise output.

For the continuous random voltage the rate of change (Rate) and amplitude (Level) of the random voltage can be adjusted. The continuous random voltage is used as source for the S&H/T&H unit. The type of operation can be set to S&H (sample and hold) or T&H (track and hold). When T&H is chosen the output signal follows the input signal as long as the Clock input is "high". As soon as the clock signal changes to "low" the last voltage is stored. When S&H is chosen the input signal is sampled at the rising edge of the Clock signal. For the Clock signal a "digital" signal (e.g. Clock, Gate, rectangle output of an LFO) is required. Dual color LEDs are used to indicates the continuous and stepped random voltages.

Controls:
Blue: share of the high frequencies in the the colored noise output
Red: share of the low frequencies in the the colored noise output
Rate: rate of change of the continuous random voltage
Level: amplitude of the continuous random voltage
TH/SH: switches between T&H und S&H

Clk: Clock input of the S&H/T&H unit

Important notes:
After power on it takes a few minutes until the two noise signals and the random signals are generated. The module is not faulty when after power on the signals do not appear immediately!

The S&H/T&H function is realized by pure analog circuitry (electronic switch followed by a holding capacitor and buffer). Consequently the output voltage drifts a bit in the holding state because the capacitor is discharged by parasitic resistors. The drift depends also upon environmental conditions like humidity or temperature.

The level of the random voltage changes with the settings of the Blue and Red controls. Especially the Red control affects the random voltage level (which is derived by low pass filtering from the colored noise signal) because the Red control changes the share of the low frequencies in the colored noise signal. The effect of the Blue control is much smaller because it changes the share of the high frequencies in the colored noise signal which are filtered out by the low pass of the random circuitry.

Notes: Module A-119 (External Input / Envelope Follower) is designed to allow external audio signals to be integrated into the System A-100. It comprises a pre-amp, envelope follower, and comparator.

The pre-amp has two inputs: an unbalanced input for line level signals, with a gain factor of from 0 to 20, and a balanced input with a gain factor of from 0 to 500, for insertion of low level signals, for instance from a microphone or electric guitar. The Envelope Follower reads the signal level of the input, and puts out a proportional voltage as an envelope at its own output. The comparator generates a gate signal whenever the input goes above an adjustable trigger threshold. Three LEDs help you keep track of overload, the envelope, and the gate signal.

The module was designed primarily to derive an envelope and gate signal from the incoming audio signal. The built-in preamp is not "high-end" and shows - depending upon the position of the gain control - a reduction of higher frequencies in the frequency response. It is possible to improve the frequency response by replacing IC1 (the upper of the two integrated circuits) by a more sophisticated circuit. For example the LME49740 can be used. It's no longer in production but available e.g. via Ebay.

Apart from this an incoming audio signal with sufficient level can be patched directly to the audio input of A-100 modules (e.g. filters), i.e. without the detour via the A-119. In this case the A-119 functions only as envelope and gate generator and the audio output of the A-119 remains unused.

Controls, In/Outputs and Functions of each VCA:

Level (manual control of the VCA amplification), small rubberized knob (L1...L4)

Control voltage input with associated attenuator (CV1...CV4), for the full VCA control range about 0...+5V control voltage are required (attenuator fully clockwise), for higher control voltages the attenuator is used, the attenuators are without knobs, just plastic shafts with white marker

All inputs and outputs are DC coupled. Consequently the VCAs can be used to process both audio and control voltages (e.g. to control the level of LFOs or envelopes)

The signal input is not equipped with an attenuator. But the VCAs can process all signals up to 15Vpp / -7.5...+7.5V without clipping. In case of higher levels an external attenuator is required (e.g. A-183-1).

The available amplification range is 0...1, the maximal amplification is 1 (i.e. it "clips" and remains at 1 even if the control voltage goes beyond the value that corresponds to amplification 1)

Functions of the voltage controlled mixers:

two outputs ("Selected" and "All")

Selected output: the ouput if a VCA is removed from this sum signal when a plug is inserted into the corresponding VCA output.

All output: sum of all VCA outputs, regardless of inserted plugs into the VCA outputs

The maximal amplification is about 0.6 to avoid clipping at the mixer outputs (otherwise the outputs may distort with 15Vpp signals at each signal input and full amplifications)

Special functions of the voltage controlled mixer (selectable by internal jumpers)

Dual Stereo VCA: In this case the control unit of VCA1 (L1 + CV1) affects also VCA3 and the control unit of VCA2 (L2 + CV2) affects also VCA4. The control units of VCA3 (L3 + CV3) and VCA4 (L4 +CV4) are out of operation.

Quad VCA: In this case the control unit of VCA1 (L1 + CV1) affects all four VCAs. The control units of VCA2, VCA3 and VCA4 are out of operation. In this mode the module has the same function as module A-132-2. That's why module A-132-2 will be discontinued.

Normalling of the signal inputs: by means of internal jumpers signal input 1 can be normalled to signal input 2, signal input 2 to signal input 3 and signal input 3 to signal input In 4. That way the same input signal can be distributed to four different channels by means of control voltages (e.g. quadrophonic distribution of audio signals). Suitable control voltage sources are e.g. A-144 (Morphing Controller) or A-143-9 (Quadrature LFO).

Additional technical specification for each VCA (based on the specifications of the VCA circuits CEM3360/AS3360 used in the module):

Notes: Module A-174-4 modules outputs three control voltages generated by a spring-loaded X/Y cross potentiometer (so-called joy stick) and a Gate signal. The control voltages for X and Y are controlled by the X and Y position of the joystick in the usual way. The third control voltage Z is controlled by the rotation of the spring-loaded joystick knob. The Gate signal is generated by a button at the center/top of the joystick knob.

For each control voltage the non-inverted signal (X, Y, Z) as well as the inverted signal with adjustable offset (-X+XO, -Y+YO, -Z+ZO) are available. The generic joystick control voltages are bipolar, i.e. they range from typ. -5V (lowest position) via 0V (center position) to typ. +5V (highest position). The "Overlap" switches can be used to add a fixed offset voltage of typ. +5V to the non-inverting output in question so that the output voltage range changes to typ. 0...+10V (rather than -5...+5V). That's necessary if e.g. a VCA has to be controlled, which requires a pure positive control voltage range. The switches are named "overlap" because they allow the overlapping of the non-inverting CV output (X, Y, Z) with the inverting output (-X+XO, -Y+YO, -Z+ZO) for crossfading applications. With the overlap switch "on" and appropriate setting of the offset control it's possible to obtain a control voltage range of 0...+10V for the non-inverting output and +10V...0V (i.e. same range but opposite direction) for the inverting output.

The offset voltages which are added to the inverting outputs can be adjusted by means of three small potentiometers. That way different kinds of control voltage ranges are possible, e.g.
-5V ... +5V for the non-inverting output and +5V ... -5V for the inverting output ( Overlap = off, Offset = 0)
0 ... +10V for the non-inverting output and +10V ... 0V for the inverting output ( Overlap = on, Offset = max)
-5V ... +5V for the non-inverting output and +10V ... 0V for the inverting output ( Overlap = off, Offset = max)
0 ... +10V for the non-inverting output and +5V ... -5V for the inverting output ( Overlap = on, Offset = 0)
On top of this the four quadrant voltages Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 are available. A quadrant voltage becomes positive when the joystick is positioned in the quadrant in question.
Each CV output is equipped with an LED that displays the present voltage.

Because of the construction height of the joystick (about 7 cm) the module cannot be installed into the cases A-100P6, A-100P9, A-100PMS6, A-100PMS9 and A-100PMS12 during transportation as the depth of the case cover is not sufficient. Into the base cases A-100PB and A-100PMB as well as in all other cases without cover the module can be installed without problems.

Steve suggested that it would be useful to have a fixed voltage source under the control of a big knob, and the ability to go from as little as 1V over the entire range of the knob. Hence subtle, incremental changes are possible.

Supplier's Notes:
FM AID is a module designed to perform through-zero linear Frequency Modulation (FM) in the analog modular world. Any arbitrary signals can be used as a Carrier and Modulator. The module copies FM in how it is done in digital implementation, but in a completely analog circuit free of digital aliasing artifacts. Digital or software FM oscillators are mainly based on a ramp waveform which is then shaped to other waveforms. This is also represented in the FM AID module: sawtooth signal is expected on the Carrier input to give the indicated sine, triangle, sawtooth and square waveforms on the respective outputs. However the user is not limited to only use sawtooth for the Carrier and any other signal can be plugged giving many complex waveforms at the outputs.

All known FM tricks from digital implementation are also applied - you can endlessly experiment with the Carrier/Modulator frequency ratios, Modulation index (FM knob), Modulator's amplitude shaping (CV knob), feedback FM (output is fed back to the Modulator's input) and many other.
Carrier input has normalled connection to the Modulator's input. This internal routing is disconnected each time a plug is inserted in the Modulator's input. That is a handy option which allows the module to be used with only one signal source - this single signal will act as Carrier and Modulator at the same time. There won't be any frequency differences between Carrier and Modulator in this case, but many interesting wave folding sounds will be available anyway.

Technically speaking FM AID uses Phase Modulation, not Frequency Modulation. The sonic difference is that the produces sound is brighter.

In a modular synth system, the different sound generating and altering sections are not connected. The user has to establish all the connections that are necessary to generate sound effects and tones with patch cables. In a semimodular synth the most essential connections are hardwired. This means you can play the DELTA CEP A right out of the box. Of course you can go a step further and add your own module patching.

The DELTA CEP A has a MIDI interface, which is essential when you want to use the paraphonic mode of the Synth. The paraphonic mode let's you play chords and turns the DELTA into the perfect pad and ensemble section. The MIDI Interface has additional outputs for external modules and a special digital bus allows for controlling the SWARM OSCILLATOR RT-311 direct with notes and chords to layer additional voices in monophonic and chords mode using an external MIDI keyboard.

The SNAPSHOT INTERPOLATOR is a very unique feature in the synthesizer world. First you have the ability to store snapshots of your sound creations into the internal memory. Then you can play these snapshots sequentially for very cool sonic sequences. But that is not all. You can even create smooth transitions from one snapshot to the other for stunning sound morphing effects. Independent from the Interpolator, the snapshot memories can also be used as preset memories and are filled with sounds from our sound designers.

23 knobs, 14 buttons, 28 RGB LEDs, 14 outputs and 17 inputs - the DELTA CEP A has a great synthesis potential that can even grow by adding additional modules. Notes: The RT-311 can store up to 8 memory setups with 8 snapshots each, holding all oscillator settings and memorizes them even after powering down your modular synth. One highlight of this module is the opportunity to interpolate between these parameter snaphots. Interpolation can be controlled with an external control voltage or with a built in LFO. The speed of the internal LFO can be controlled with an external control voltage as well. The interpolator has even an external output to interpolate one parameter of an attached module. Both oscillators can built swarms of oscillator clones. Up to 16 Oscillators are running simultaneously at the highest setting. The detune knob changes the pitch of all oscillator clones between ultra slow oscillator frequency beating effects and multiple frequency drones and chords. The swarm can be pitched in musical intervals, chords, clusters or fat detunes. The swarm tuning can be stored into the snapshots too. That allows for to built up to 8 different chords with different sound settings one can change while playing in a setup.

Both oscillator swarms have independent outputs. If one sets the exponential FM inputs depth to maximum, the inputs run with Volt per Octave scaling. The oscillator swarms can then be used like two independent Synth voices. The scale inputs can also get quantized to musical scales. That makes it easy to control the swarm from a step sequencer. Just select the root key with the tune knob and a pentatonic scale and turn the knobs of your sequencer for always matching tonal sequences.

Notes: The 1847 Wavetable Oscillator (VCDO) is a versatile and easy-to-use voltage-controlled 8-bit wavetable oscillator.

The main oscillator has 16 waveforms arranged as a wavetable and a sub-oscillator also provides 8 waveforms; each selectable at one of four octaves (+1, unison, -1 or -2). The main and sub-oscillator wavetables can be cycled through manually using knobs on the front panel, or can each be controlled by a CV source. The main oscillator waveform select CV has its own dedicated attenuator.

Two FM CV inputs are also provided (FM 1 has an attenuator), along with a 1V/octave input (quantized to semitones).
