Synthesisers

Synthesisers – or synths – are the fundamental building blocks of most electronic music. Whether analogue or digital, a hardware synth is any instrument which generates sound using electronic circuits. Most of the great synths are keyboards, but there are a lot more choices, including desktop modules and modular systems. Our range includes old-school analogue synthesisers and reissues of vintage classics, plus the latest digital workstations, patchable semi-modular instruments and portable models suitable for live performance or making music on the go. With such a wide variety of synths on offer, there’s something to suit everyone, from budget options for beginners through to premium models for pro studios. Brands like Arturia, Korg and Roland offer excellent value for money, while the likes of Moog and Waldorf offer some of the best high-end options for those who want something a little more advanced.

Aodyo Anyma Phi Hybrid Monophonic Physical Modeling Synthesiser (white)
Cat: 827737 Rel: 12 Jul 21

Hybrid monophonic synthesizer
Notes: Explore unique sonic possibilities with this semi-modular digital synth, combining physical modelling with spectral sound sources, versatile effects and complex modulators.

Supplier's Notes:
An affordable hybrid monophonic synthesizer that allows you to create new sound universes inspired from the real world, where objects collide, vibrate, and resonate.

Anyma Phi blends the classic ingredients of electronic music with physical modelling technology, allowing it to simulate acoustic sound sources, such as strings or reeds, as well as resonating structures, like wood, glass, or metal.

Anyma Phi is compact enough to stand on your keyboard, or anywhere on your desk, and is compatible with any MIDI controller, such as keyboards, sequencers, or even wind controllers, including Aodyo's own Sylphyo.

Whether you play live or record in the studio, design sounds or play presets, Anyma Phi will become an indispensable tool. It can even be used as a stand-alone effects processor, or as part of a guitar effects pedal setup.

The heart of the Anyma Phi is the matrix, which provides a quick and easy way to explore your sounds by following a physical metaphor, with four macros for each of the five stages of sound generation:

With its matrix, Anyma Phi offers a straightforward way to tweak, explore, and create sound universes. It also provides easy ways to make your sound react to your MIDI controllers with mapping shortcuts. But don't be fooled by the simplicity!

If you want to dive deeper, you can take control of the powerful semi-modular synth engine beyond the matrix, with oscillators covering a wide range of synthesis techniques, effects, and modulators.

By connecting those together, you can create any kind of sound, and control it any way you want.

Anyma Phi offers you:
Up to 3 oscillators (sound sources)- physical models, classic spectral, noise souces, external input
Up to 5 effects: resonators, filers - EQ, pitch shifter, ring mod, delay - reverb, chorus - phaser, drive - folder
Up to 8 modulators: envelopes, LFOs, curves, slew limiter, math & logic

This amounts to 69 different module types available, including 30 sources, 22 effects, and 17 modulators.

Technical specifications:
Hybrid monophonic synthesizer
Stereo audio output:
Two 1/4" mono line jack outputs
One 1/4" stereo headphone jack output
1/4" stereo jack audio input (internal piezoelectric mic when external input unplugged)
MIDI inputs and outputs via USB and DIN ports
Powerful digital semi-modular synthesizer engine :
Memory: 200 patches
3 oscillator slot
5 effect slots along 2 serial buses (Main, Aux) + 1 mono reverb
16 modulator slots, including envelope generators, LFO, curves, interpolators, slew limiters, etc.
32 mapping slots (virtual patch cords), each allowing to control any synth parameter (including another mapping) using a modulator or a controller input, with a sidechain input
Responsive to pitch, pitch-bend, velocity, breath control / expression, as well as 4 other controller inputs

Additional features:
Percussive playing surface
Patch librarian / editor
Extended memory

The percussive playing surface will allow you to tap and scratch your sounds directly on the case, making your performance even more expressive and fun! This would be made possible by integrating a piezoelectric contact microphone into the case. The resulting sound would be available to use on the Anyma as an audio input, ready to be fed into resonators and effects!

You can edit patches directly on your Anyma, as well as send and receive patches via MIDI SysEx. But what about something more comfortable and powerful?

This software will allow you to easily manage and share patches, as well as edit them in depth in a streamlined environment on your PC or Mac, by making all the synth components directly visible and showing their interactions.

With more memory, you can have a huge library of sounds at your fingertips, or you can make many variations of your patches without having to worry about space or having the computer editor around to make backups!

Let's free the Anyma Phi from the shackles of the Western 12-tone equal temperament! A440 be gone!

Arturia MicroFreak Vocoder Edition Experimental Hybrid Keyboard Synthesiser (white)
Cat: 857507 Rel: 18 Jan 22

MicroFreak Vocoder Edition takes the hybrid Freak formula and tips it over the edge with a 16-band Vocoder mode, a detachable gooseneck mic and a sleek new look.
Notes: Solid experimentalism at an excellent price, the vocoder-equipped version of Arturia's hybrid MicroFreak offers 14 digital oscillator options, analogue filters and 16 vocoder modes, plus a uniquely expressive polyphonic touch keyboard.

Supplier's Notes:
The uniquely unpredictable MicroFreak but not as you know it. 14 digital oscillator modes, velvety analog filters and heaps of modulation/randomization controls, supercharged with wild vocoding abilities.

The Vocoder engine

Arturia have created an entirely new 16-band mode to transform your voice in the Freakiest way possible. The vocoder engine features 3 waveforms - sawtooth, pulse width and noise - while the Tim-bre and Shape knobs adjust the response of the 16 frequency bands.

MicroFreak Vocoder Edition goes beyond robot vocals. 16 new presets give you instant access to android translations, crystalline harmonies and vibrant formant sequences galore. Connect an ex-ternal sound source like a drum machine or synth via the headphone socket for glitchy sound pro-cessing.

Step up to the mic

A simple, removable mic attachment that lets you sprinkle your voice into the mix. A gooseneck design means quick position adjustment, with easy connection straight into the headphone socket alongside your cans. The utility menu lets you set your preferred mic gain and noise gate settings.

A new dress code

First impressions make a difference. MicroFreak has always been out to make a statement, and the Vocoder Edition is no exception. The control panel has been given a makeover. The center strip boasts a bold new Swan graphic, while a sleek white finish makes this limited edition Freak stand out from the crowd - as if it didn't already.

The Freak within

Behind the revamped appearance and microphone attachment is the same lovable maniac that set the synth world spinning. Sparkling digital and wavetable oscillators collide with warm analog filters. A unique poly-after-touch PCB keyboard combines with a distinctly freaky arpeggiator & sequencer. Bathe your mix in sonic hysterics with the erratic mod matrix or the unique Spice & Dice randomizers.

Arturia MiniBrute 2 Analogue Synthesizer & Sequencer Keyboard
Cat: 675626 Rel: 16 Apr 18

Semi-modular analogue synthesiser featuring two multi-waveform oscillators
Notes: MiniBrute 2 has evolved from the legendary monosynth that revolutionized the analog scene with its mixable waveforms, Steiner-Parker filter, and Brute Factor. Now with semi-modular architecture, you can splice its genome and expand its raw power into the world of Eurorack modular.

Born from the lineage of its predecessor, MiniBrute 2 is an adaptable, dynamic synth with semi-modular architecture and huge connectivity. This is synth evolution.

From the earliest electronic instruments, synthesizers have expanded and enhanced the possibilities available to musicians. We decided not only to apply this mantra to the sound of our new instrument, but to synthesizer itself. MiniBrute 2 was born! A synthesizer that would sound huge and yet be compact, self-contained and versatile. An instrument that would be both comprehensive and evolving.

MiniBrute 2 sweeps conventions aside, in terms of sound, features, and preconceptions of what a synth should be.

A small beast with a powerful voice:

Let's be honest, you're not here because you want the same old synth, are you?

The MiniBrute 2 has nothing to hide. Take a look at its front panel, get yourself acquainted. You'll notice the now-iconic Brute oscillators, the acidic Steiner-Parker filter, and the mayhem-inducing Brute Factor knob that has become the signature Arturia synth element for many fans.

Looking a bit further, beyond the usual modulation sources and controls, you'll notice some exciting, unexpected features: a second VCO; a second LFO; new VCO and Filter frequency modulation possibilities; modifier-related modulation destinations; a brand new, loopable AD envelope. Once tamed, this little beast will reveal the full range of its vocalizations, including raging leads and piercing sequences, as well as smooth pads and purring bass.

The time is nigh, the moon is full, and MiniBrute 2 is ready to howl.

A polymorph with a pack instinct:

There are two ways that creatures thrive: adapting, and grouping together. MiniBrute 2 is a master of both.

Thanks to its massive CV/Gate patch bay, you will be able to reinvent and restructure your MiniBrute 2 at any time. The synth is semi-modular, even with no patch leads connected, and each of its features has already been cleverly, inspiringly routed. If you want to start dissecting the sound and experimenting, you will find direct, 100% safe access to the MiniBrute 2's genetic code on the right of its front panel.

Modulating the Metalizer amount to an audio pulse? Having the AD envelope affecting its own decay to make it sharper? Affecting the VCO1 FM amount with the LFO? You get the idea. The possibilities are practically unlimited, and even more so if you have CV/Gate-enhanced gear and Eurorack modules to welcome into the pack.

No natural selection here. With MiniBrute 2, you set your own rules of sonic evolution.

Box contents:

- MiniBrute 2 unit
- Power cord
- 8 patch cables
- "Cook Book" jam-packed full of superb sonic recipes for you to try out, put together by some of the most illustrious synth-chefs around

Behringer Odyssey Analogue Synthesizer
Cat: 688740 Rel: 19 Jun 20

analog synthesiser
Notes: Behringer's tribute to the ARP Odyssey is a pleasingly retro instrument. Fully analogue duophonic goodness with that classic tough ARP sound, great for bass and leads.

Supplier notes:
An ultra-affordable homage to the legendary ARP* synthesizer of the '70s and beyond with all the features of the original and then some including: dual VCOs; 32-step sequencer with onboard storage; arpeggiator and world-class Klark Teknik FX that boast reverb, chorus, flanger, delay, pitch shifter and multi-effects, the ODYSSEY lets you conjure up virtually any sound with incredible finesse and ease. With its 37 semi-weighted full-size keys, pure analog signal path based on authentic VCO, VCF and VCA designs from the '70s, the ODYSSEY is sure to become your favorite keyboard. Owning the ODYSSEY is like having your own personal time machine, enabling you to embrace the past - or make your imprint on the future!

Great care has been taken in engineering the ODYSSEY, including the true to the original analog circuitry, legendary VCO, VCF and VCA designs, all of which combine to make it easy to recreate the classic sound performance. This highly-focused attention to detail is what gives the ODYSSEY its ultra-flexible sound shaping capability, which covers everything from super-fat bass and lead tones to stunning effects - and all the way out to the otherworldly sounds of your imagination.

The inspired synthesizer tracks laid down in the 1970s are etched in the annals of progressive rock, disco and synth-pop music forever, making them truly classic in every sense of the word. The ODYSSEY lets you recreate all of that magic - or design incredibly fat and original sounds that will make you a legend in your own right!

ODYSSEY's 2 voices are the product of dual analog Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCOs), which each provide your choice of: sawtooth, square/pulse with pulse-width modulation, or sine/square wave LFO for sculpting the perfect sound. This amazing flexibility gives you the tools needed to be your creative best.

The very heart of ODYSSEY's sound is its highly-flexible Voltage Control Filter (VCF), which includes faders for: Frequency; Resonance (0 to self-oscillation); and High Pass Filter (HPF) Cutoff Frequency. A feature missing from the original is a new 3-position switch, which lets you choose the VCF filter you prefer from all 3 iterations of the famous synth: 2-pole MKI (4023); 4-pole MKII (4035); and 4-pole MKIII (4075), plus a Drive switch to add a touch of edge to your sound.

ODYSSEY features two easy-to-use Envelope Generators, AR (Attack and Release) and ADSR (Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release) with 2 and 4 faders, respectively to help you craft incredible sounds. Switches are provided for ADSR Gate/LFO Repeat, AR Gate/LFO Repeat or thirdly, Keyboard Repeat/Auto Repeat - which provides a wide range of performance options.

ODYSSEY's sequencer allows you to program up to 32 steps of notes and rests and save them as a pattern. You can record, save and recall up to 64 patterns, all of which can be stored in the 8 banks, each holding up to 8 patterns. Your sequences can be played either in Keyboard mode, where you create and store the pattern, or in Step mode, which allows you to interact while composing the pattern. The onboard Arpeggiator features 8 patterns (you can use just by playing a chord, which the arpeggiator then sequences through your selected pattern. Both the sequencer and arpeggiator in the ODYSSEY are fun, mesmerizing and totally addictive.

For those who want the numbers, ODYSSEY has 35 sliders, 25 switches and 3 pressure-sensitive buttons, all laid out in a highly-intuitive format that puts the joy back into your music creation. Input and output connections include: MIDI In and Out over USB/MIDI DIN; Pedal; Portamento Footswitch; Low and High Outputs; External Audio In; CV In and Out; Gate In and Out, and Phones with a dedication Volume control.

In addition to the great sound-sculpting features already mentioned, ODYSSEY has still more to offer. There's the pink/white noise generator with sample & hold plus lag processor; Portamento, which lets you sweep seamlessly over time from one note to the next, creating smooth-as-silk transitions that few other instruments can emulate; and the 3 pressure-sensitive buttons for pitch and modulation control that provide a total hands-on performance. ODYSSEY is the ideal tone-making machine for creating sounds that run the gamut - from mild to wild!

Behringer VC340 Analogue Vocoder Synthesiser
Cat: 677560 Rel: 17 May 19

Authentic analogue vocoder for human voice & strings ensemble sounds from the 80's
Notes: Thanks to 37 semi-weighted full-size keys with velocity sensitivity and an authentic analogue signal path, the VOCODER VC340 is sure to become one of your favourite keyboards. Whether you use it to provide that awe-inspiring talking-synth sound that sold millions of recordings, or just for its really fat string section and multi-voice choir pads, owning the VOCODER VC340 is like having your own personal time machine, enabling you to embrace the past - or make your imprint on the future!

Legendary Vocoder Users:

Although originally patented by Bell Labs engineer Homer Dudley in 1939, the vocoder didn't become part of the modern musical lexicon until the 1970s. It has since been used by recording/performing artists Wendy Carlos, Phil Collins, Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield, Kraftwerk, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Daft Punk, Isao Tomito and Emerson, Lake and Palmer, to name but a few. The vocoder has also become a singular staple of major motion pictures and video games for its ability to create robot voices, special audio effects and much more.

True to the Original:

Great care has been taken in engineering the VOCODER VC340, including the true to the original analogue circuitry, which makes it extremely easy for you to recreate the classic vocoder sounds that made a tremendous impact on synth-based rock. This highly-focused attention to detail is what gives the VOCODER VC340 its ultra-flexible sound shaping capability, which covers everything from super-fat voice and string ensembles to stunning effects - and all the way out to the otherworldly sounds of your imagination.

You Provide VOCODER VC340's Unique Voice:

Unlike the original vocoders of the 1970s and '80s, you get to use your favourite microphone with the VOCODER VC340. A dedicated XLR input connector is provided on the rear panel that allows any Low-Impedance (Lo-Z) dynamic mic (not incl.) to modulate the onboard synthesized sounds.

Multiple-Stage Chorus:

Nothing fattens up the sound of a vocal choir or string section better than a truly-great chorus! That's why VOCODER VC340's chorus features authentic analogue BBD (Bucket Brigade Delay) technology, which hands the signal off across multiple processing stages for the ideal amount of luscious thickening.

Controls & Connectivity:

We just can't help ourselves - like you, we're gear-heads, too. For those who want the numbers, VOCODER VC340 has 32 knobs, faders and switches, all laid out in a highly-intuitive format that puts the joy back into your music creation. Input and output connections include: Mic In; Phones; External Synth In; Control (Vocoder Hold & Pitch pedal inputs); Audio Out (Mono & Stereo with 3-position Level switch); and MIDI (I/O and Thru) via USB/MIDI DIN.

When it comes to not just pushing envelopes but creating them, VOCODER VC340 gives your imagination its voice - and it's so very affordable. When modern performance calls for that classic analogue sound - it calls for the Behringer VOCODER VC340!

ELTA Music Polivoks Mini Desktop Analogue Synthesiser (white with English lettering)
Cat: 730438 Rel: 25 Apr 19

Desktop synth with integrated USB/MIDI interface - white with English lettering
Notes: The idea of the Polivoks Mini analog synthesiser came into mind in 1990, as the junior version of its older brother - the well known Polivoks full synth. The aim was to develop a simpler and lighter device that has less components, offers the same broad capabilities, and removes possible flows of the Polivoks full synth. As a result of this research, a new minimalistic schematic appeared. It has fewer controls that are compensated by greater functionality. For example, in the Modulator section the Form switch has been replaced by the controller with triangular oscillation in the middle position and sawtooth shape oscillation smoothly falling in the extreme positions.

The controller for the envelope filter input is set to zero in the middle position and its value increases by turning the knob clockwise, while turning the knob counter-clockwise increases inverse voltage of the envelope generator. The main synthesizer sections, such as generator, famous Polivoks filter and multimode envelope generator, are essentially the same as the Polivoks, and have this unique sound. In addition, the main generator of the Polivoks Mini doesn't require any thermal stabilization or adjustment.

In general, the simplified schematic delivers the sound appreciated by a wide range of musicians with minimal means but new capabilities. The Polivoks Mini is a keyboardless version with integrated USB and MIDI interfaces. The overall design of the Polivoks Mini is made in collaboration with Ms. Olympiada Kuzmina, Polivoks full synth concept designer.

Grendel Drone Commander Classic Synthesiser
Cat: 825205 Rel: 17 Feb 22

A unique synthesizer that delivers thick drone tones with the convenient size of an FX pedal stompbox.
Notes: Grendel Drone Commander Classic Pedal is a unique synthesizer that delivers thick drone tones with the convenient size of an FX pedal stompbox. It brings back the same true analog oscillators and filter from the sought-after original ammo can model that was made between 2008-2014.

The LFO section delivers rhythmic sweeping modulations that animate the filter. It operates the same way as the original, but with a wider frequency range. The Drone Commander's LFO modulations are based on a slow ramp waveform that sweeps the filter. The ramp can be set for rising or falling slope, and the SHAPE knob crossfades the ramp modulation with a simple 'blip' at the end of every LFO cycle. The other half of the LFO section is a unique phase-locked loop (PLL) that tracks the LFO, generating a pulse wave that automatically synchronizes at a frequency of 2x, 4x, 8x, or 16x. The PULSE knob adjusts the depth of filter modulation by this waveform.

The stomp switch brings the sound in and out with a selectable fade or mute effect, allowing hands-free convenience when adding analog drone tones to specific parts of your performance.

Get new sound effects by processing external audio signals through Grendel Drone Commander's filter and LFO, via its 3.5mm monophonic line input jack.

This analog synthesizer fits conveniently into a pedalboard and can be powered with a daisy-chain cable from a standard 9VDC effects pedal power supply, as well as its internal 9V battery.

So it's just like an FX pedal?

No, because it creates its own sounds, and it's not intended to be patched in the middle of a chain of FX pedals. There isn't a dry signal path from Audio In to Audio Out. It can process audio like an effect, but please see the user guide for how to do that best. Also, the stomp switch isn't a wet/dry bypass switch. Instead, the stomp switch is used to mute/un-mute the output and trigger fade-ins and fade-outs.

Why doesn't it have a 14" input and a straight-through wet/bypass switching like an effect pedal? The simple answer is that Grendel Drone Commander wasn't developed as a guitar effect, and Grendel agreed that it doesn't particularly shine in that role. Nevertheless, to satisfy the curious and experimentally savvy, this model has an Audio In, and it is possible to pipe a guitar signal through it with simple audio adapters.

How to connect it

This model works well as a tabletop synth connected to a mixer line input. Or instead, there are several ways to incorporate it in your pedalboard.

If your amplifier has two inputs, simply connect the Drone Commander to an unused input on your amp. Patch in some extra effects for it along the way. Use the Drone Commander's stomp switch to bring its sound in and out when you like.

If your amp has one input, you might want to use an A/B switch to select between guitar and Drone Commander. Hit the A/B switch to select Drone Commander during specific sections, or as a fill-in while taking a tuning break.

Or, depending on the scenario, you might simply patch the Drone Commander pedal to an input channel on the PA system mixing board. Connecting it through a DI box may improve the results in an on-stage situation.

CV connections (3.5mm mono)

Clock out: Synchronize external gear with the Drone Commander's pulses. This port sends a square wave analog clock output.

Filter CV in: Modulate the Drone Commander's filter with an external LFO, Envelope, etc. (not 1v/octave)

Gate in: Has the same function as the stomp switch. Bring the sound in and out automatically from an external controller, LFO, sequencer, etc. Or self-patch Clock Out to Gate In for an automatic loud-quiet-loud effect.

Audio in: Patching to this port mutes the internal oscillators, and substitutes external audio. The external signal passes through the Drone Commander's filter, LFO, and Gate effects. Typically for best results, use a signal with constant dynamics, such as the raw waveform output from a VCO module. Or, experiment by connecting other instruments to it. See the user guide for more info on patching the Audio In jack.

Grendel Grenadier RA-99 Synthesiser
Cat: 825407

Tabletop all-analog CV-Gate synth module with 3-VCF formant filter bank, versatile modulation, variable shape VCO + suboctave and noise, semi-modular patchability
Notes: In the spirit of sonic exploration and musical evolution, Grendel bring you the RA-99 Grenadier, an all-analog synthesizer with an original and unique tone palette. It implements parallel formant synthesis with a bank of three voltage controlled filters to generate tones inspired by the human voice, without being limited by the conventional boundaries of speech modeling. Twenty patch points give you extensive self-patching options plus creative compatibility with analog modulars, sequencers and keyboard controllers.

Oscillator

The RA-99 sound engine is based on an accurate voltage controlled oscillator with variable wave shape. The VCO has multiple CV (control voltage) inputs for creative stacking of the various CV sources available in your studio. There are two 1 volt per octave inputs for melody. It also has a 5 volts per octave input that is ideal for creating octave modulations from an LFO with 5V output. Finally, the 15 volts per octave input is suited to narrow pitch modulations like vibrato and pitch bend. The CV inputs of the RA-99 VCO have wide response bandwidth, allowing FM with audio frequency waveforms.

A subharmonic square wave is generated at a frequency 1 octave below the VCO. Activating the SUB switch mixes this with the VCO output. Raw subharmonic waveform is available from the SUB OUT jack.

Noise Source

A pink noise generator is included to add complexity to the sound. Pink noise is mixed with the VCO at the input to the filter bank. Pink noise volume is adjustable with the knob labeled P-NOISE, and by CV input to the NOISE CV jack. The noise source also adds a subtle amount of jitter to the VCO waveform.

Modulation

The RA-99 modulation section contains a pair of multifunction waveform generators called MOD1 and MOD2. They can provide (1) gated attack-release envelope, (2) triggered decay envelope, (3) pulse LFO with variable pulse width, or (4) saw-triangle LFO with variable symmetry. In envelope mode, the output is a true exponential slope. In addition, RA-99's MODs can create time delayed gate events, serve as low-frequency audio VCOs (with limitations), or act as frequency dividers. Both MODs have variable output level that is sweepable from normal to inverted polarity. Either MOD1 or MOD2 can serve as the main volume envelope.

Filter Bank

The Grenadier RA-99 filter bank combines one low pass and two band pass filters to produce full-bodied tones with resonant character of vowels. The filter bank has three control parameters: ALPHA, BETA, and FILTERS. These parameters are also fully controllable with CV inputs.

Power Input

This unit requires 12 volts DC and draws a maximum current of 100 mA. Polarity of the AC adapter connector does not matter. It can be tip positive or tip negative.

* Grenadier RA-99 will also operate from 9 volts DC, but please note that the pink noise source will be unavailable in this situation, and distortion may be heard in the output.

The unit is protected against over-voltage with a built-in self-resetting fuse.

It is OK to use a daisy-chain cable to share power with other 12V gear from a single AC adapter, provided the total current demand (mA) does not exceed the AC adapter's rating.

Power Switch?

For simplicity, this unit does not have a power switch. It is on whenever its AC adapter is connected to mains power. It is recommended that you plug its AC adapter to a power strip with on-off switch built in.

Main Audio Output

Use a common 1/4" shielded audio instrument cable (mono, TS type) to connect the synth's output to a line input of a mixing board, computer sound interface, keyboard amplifier, or effect processor.

The output impedance is 220 ohms, so it is unnecessary to connect it to a high impedance (HI-Z) input.

You may plug headphones in to this jack, but you'll only hear sound on one side.

A DI Box may be necessary on stage to connect to a PA system.

Koma Elektronik RH301 Rhythm & Utility Pedal
Koma Elektronik RH301 Rhythm & Utility Pedal (analog clock/DIN/MIDI sync unit)
Cat: 503734 Rel: 14 Nov 13

Master sync station for electronic instruments
Notes: The RH-301 is KOMA Elektronik's solution to a problem many musicians are struggling with: analog and digital equipment that needs to run side by side on a steady tempo: in sync. Analog clock, DIN Sync and MIDI - the RH-301 syncs them all up. The RH-301 is a 'Master Sync Station' that helps electronic musicians get the most out of their equipment by properly syncing their devices and adding an LFO and an envelope that are synced as well.

The beating heart of the unit is the master clock, of which the tempo can be set freely by turning the tempo knob, by tapping a tempo on the tap button, by syncing it to MIDI, DIN Sync or to an external CV clock signal. Besides the normal clock output the user can also divide the tempo signal with the Divisions knob and send a faster or slower tempo signal via the two Division Outputs. The generated clock signal can be passed on to other devices via the two Clock Outputs, two Division Outputs or via the MIDI Output and DIN Sync Output. An incoming MIDI signal can also be passed through via the MIDI Through and Out jacks. All clock outputs are buffered.

The second feature of the RH-301 is the LFO, which can be synced to the master clock or run freely up to 260 Hz in five different shapes: sine, triangle, square, S&H and a special Sine & Noise. This means the pedal can also be used as an oscillator, when the user turns the LFO up into the audible ranges. When the LFO is in Sync-Mode the user can choose the same divisions as the divisions of the master clock. Also wave shaping is available for all of those waveforms. The LFO has two separate outputs on the patch bay: LFO Out and Inverted LFO Out. All the features of the LFO are also controllable via control voltage, the pedal boasts CV inputs for LFO Speed, LFO Reset and LFO Symmetry.

The third feature of the pedal is an ADSR that can be easily synced to the master clock, or run in loop mode. Besides the normal controls for Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release the pedal comes with a Range knob to set the time range of the envelope created, going from a short and snappy linear to a longer and more organic logarithmic response. The EG comes with a normal Envelope Output, but also an Inverted Output. The Envelope Generator can be triggered by an external Gate or Trigger CV Source through the Envelope Gate Input. Besides all these features, the RH-301 also comes with a built-in KOMA Elektronik sensor, which can be used as a separate CV Output on the patch bay as well. No matter what your setup is, digital or analog, if you use a modular synthesizer, DAW, drum computer, synthesizer or KOMA's own BD-101 and FT-201 effect pedals, the RH-301 is an effective tool to make sure they all walk in line.

Korg Electribe EMX2 Music Production Station (blue version)
Cat: 620852 Rel: 25 Aug 16

New version of the classic Electribe music production workstation with Ableton Live Lite software
Notes: The electribe has been reborn including KORG's latest technology distilled from popular products such as the KingKORG, kaossilator, kaoss pad, and taktile. The 200 preset patterns cover House and Techno as well as cutting-edge dance music genres such as Trap and EDM. Another major evolution of the new electribe is support for polyphonic playback, which is indispensable for musical styles that involve complex chord progressions such as House music.

Using the 16 pads placed on the front of the unit, you can create patterns intuitively while actually hearing and seeing the sounds. You can use the pads as a keyboard to realtime-record phrases, and also perform step recording by entering the pitch and rhythmic value one note at a time. The patterns you create can be used in alternate forms as you perform by taking advantage of the "step jump" feature inherited from the volca series, or by changing the "last step" to vary the length of each part.

There's also a "motion sequence" function that lets you record knob and button operations and use them in the pattern that you create. Either drums or synths can now be assigned to each of the 16 parts (i.e., the 16 pads). For example you could create complex rhythms by assigning drums to all of the 16 parts.

Familiar from the kaossilator is the "touch scale" function that lets anyone perform without wrong notes, just by moving a finger across the touch pad. The trigger pads that were popular on the taktile are also provided, making it easy for anyone to create phrases intuitively. The trigger pads can also be used for drum input. Settings allow you to switch velocity on/off.

For the electribe, KORG designed a synth engine that gives you the maximum sound-creating freedom and the fastest sound production. The 409 oscillator waveforms include analog modeling and PCM. The analog modeling synth engine provides a broad variety ranging from simple basic waveforms to complex combinations such as dual, unison, sync, ring modulation, and cross modulation. The PCM sound engine provides mainly rhythm sounds, but also covers multisamples for keyboard. (collaborations with Sample Magic, Loopmasters, Prime Loops are included)

The filters at the heart of the sound-shaping capabilities are inherited directly from the KingKORG, and they use filter algorithms that simulate standard synthesizers so that you can get "the sound" which was used in famous songs, just by selecting the appropriate filter type.

You can also apply filters to drums to create rhythm tracks that are rich in tonal variation. Modulation can make sound-creation more complicated, but we've made it easy by condensing it down to three parameters: simply select a template that specifies an effect and its target, and then adjust the speed and depth of the effect to suit your taste.

The new electribe provides effects such as compression and overdrive for each part, giving you uncompromising control over the nuances of individual sounds that differ subtly between genres. The groove function can be specified for each part, letting you apply a groove to your phrase simply by selecting a template.

The master effects can be controlled from the touch pad just like on the kaoss pad, and they include not only spatial-type effects that shape the overall acoustics but they also include effects that apply aggressively musical transformations such as the "Vinyl Break" effect inherited from the Kaoss pad series, and the newly developed "Seq Reverse" and "Odd Stepper" that change the playback order of the sequencer. These are also extremely effective for live performance. Insert effects can be assigned for individual parts, opening up even more complex sound-design possibilities. There's also a "pattern set" function which lets you switch patterns by pressing trigger pads, and an "event recording" function that records that performance. In addition to MIDI IN/OUT, "Sync IN/OUT" is also provided, allowing synchronized performances with the volca series, monotribe, or MS-20 mini. The unit can run on six AA batteries, so you can easily take it along with you and perform anywhere, providing on-the-go inspiration your musical ideas.

Best of all, the microKORG comes with its own microphone so you can start having fun right away.

3 types of modulation effects (chorus/flanger, phaser, ensemble), 3 types of delay effects (stereo, cross, L/R) and a 2-band equalizer add the finishing touch to the microKORG. The delays can be synchronized with the arpeggiator or to an external MIDI clock U a great feature for live performances or for laying down tracks. All effects can be edited to create your own, unique sounds.

Korg have used all of the microKORG's synthesis power in the creation of 128 great-sounding presets. They cover a wide range of the latest musical styles plus many vintage favourites. Sixteen vocoder Programs are also included. The pitch bend wheel, modulation wheel and 5 other knobs provide flexible realtime control over filter cutoff, attack, release and other important parameters. The edit mode allows you to fully edit the existing sounds, or to create your own new ones.

6 types of arpeggio patterns (UP, DOWN, ALT1/2, Random, Trigger) are built in, with control over tempo, gate time, swing, and up to a 4-octave range. You can turn individual steps on or off within a pattern, providing the feel and functionality of a step sequencer.

2 external audio input jacks are provided, so you can run other instruments, CDs and more through the microKORG's filter and effects, allowing you to process sounds in truly creative ways.

The microKORG's compact size is perfect for the musician or DJ looking to add a synth to his or her setup when space is tight. It's also a great choice for use in a computer-based music setup. Korg microKORG S 37-Key Analogue Keyboard Synthesiser & Vocoder (white)
Cat: 624268 Rel: 03 Oct 16

Analog modeling synthesiser and vocoder with velocity-sensitive mini-keys and built-in speakers
Notes: Already something of a modern classic, Korg's compact synth and vocoder features built-in speakers in this upgraded S model. Huge fun, easy to use and great for live performance.

Supplier's notes:
Shape your sound, bring it anywhere: The microKORG S continues to build on the success of the original.

With a serious sound, ubiquitous design, and superior build quality, the microKORG analog modeling synthesizer became an instant world standard when it was released in 2002. Since then, the microKORG has found its way into the hands of musicians far and wide, and now, receives an update to ensure it will remain one of the world's most beloved synthesizers for years to come.

The new microKORG S features a built-in 2+1 speaker system with power that far exceeds its size. Its body sports an elegant white motif, and features new presets that represent the sounds of a new generation. Beneath the microKORG S's sophisticated exterior hides a sound engine both brutal in strength and universal in application.

Built-in 2+1 speaker system ensures a rich and full sound at any volume:

Inside that compact body of the microKORG, we've included a carefully constructed speaker system consisting of stereo speakers with clear imaging, plus a woofer that emanates a startling amount of low frequency. The chassis uses a new box structure, and the combination of ample box volume and a bass reflex port takes full advantage of the speakers, thereby delivering a rich sense of volume that exceeds the size of the speakers, a clear sense of positioning, and a rich low-frequency range. In addition to the battery-powered operation of the existing model, the inclusion of the built-in speakers allows an easy yet full-fledged performance experience even in an environment where there is no power supply or PA.

Since the speaker box is contained within the chassis of the instrument, the vibrations from the speaker can be felt through your fingertips. This tactile feedback allows you to experience the same subtle and dynamic response as when playing an acoustic instrument or electric piano.

Increased memory, new programs, and additional user programs:

The memory capacity has been increased from the original microKORG. Mainly centered on simple and present sounds that shine on stage, we've added 64 powerful preset programs that meet the needs of the changing music scene, including clearly defined and punchy leads, electric pianos that sound great in an ensemble, and powerful and solid basses. In addition, we've also newly provided 64 additional slots for user programs, so you can save your own original sounds without overwriting the presets. This encourages a sound design process that's ideal for this instrument: select a sound that you like, and edit it.

Elegant new design retains the spirit of the original:

The microKORG's distinctive form has been beloved worldwide for more than ten years. The microKORG S adds speakers, yet carries on the looks and compactness of the original. In addition, the front panel features an elegant white reboot, updated with maple wood for the side panels.

Favorite Select function:

There's a new Favorite Select function that lets you assign up to eight of your favorite programs. Since this lets you instantly recall the sound you need, it makes live performance even more convenient.

All of the functionality of the original microKORG, plus so much more:

This new instrument carries on all of the original microKORG's functionality, including the ease of selecting a program of a desired musical genre and then editing the selected sound, a vocoder with an included miniature microphone, and battery operation that allows you to perform anywhere. As a beginner's first synthesizer that's easy to use, as a supplementary live synth for the stage, or as a sound module for production, the microKORG S will continue to play a role in every music scene around for many years to come.

Korg MicroKorg XL+ Synthesiser & Vocoder
Cat: 468414 Rel: 29 Oct 12

Keyboard synthesiser
Notes: Vintage and more.

With its unmistakably unique exterior and its inimitable sound, the microKorg set the standard for analog modeling synthesizers. The year 2008 saw the introduction of the microKorg XL, which inherited the microKorg's fat and powerful sounds, while adding keyboard staples such as electric piano and the CX-3 organ. And now, in the next evolutionary step, the microKorg XL+ delivers a fresh update to the sounds and design of the microKorg XL, making it the ideal compact keyboard.

The microKORG XL featured a sound selector that lets you choose your sound using 2 large dials: music genre and instrument category. The new microKORG XL+ offers an additional selection of these music genres to fit today's fast-moving music scene. Now you can select a program that matches your song more intuitively than ever. For even more convenience, you can also leave one of the dials fixed and only use the other dial to make program changes during a song (music genre fixed), or use the dial to select vocoder variations (instrument category fixed).

Lush analog modeled synthesizer sounds that are characteristic of the microKORG have been freshly added to the microKORG XL+. In addition, for band use, the microKORG XL+ comes equipped with the piano sound from Korg's classic stage piano, the SGproX (famous for its ability to stand out in your band's mix), as well as its hard-edged grand-type electric piano. This compact package also includes sounds from the M1 and the VOX organ, vintage tape-type string and flute machines, as well as other gorgeous sounds from keyboard history. Each of these 128 programs are genuinely usable sounds, giving the microKORG XL+ plenty of variety to serve as your main keyboard or of course as a secondary keyboard in your rig.

The microKORG XL+ projects a style that's reminiscent of vintage electric pianos, featuring a futuristic yet retro design with a stylish black panel. High-quality parts such as metal levers, dials that move with an audible click, and knobs with a sturdy operating feel are some of the ways that the microKORG XL+ outclasses other instruments in its range and enhances your experience editing synthesizer sounds.

The microKORG XL+'s sound engine uses MMT (Multiple Modeling Technology), borrowing from Korg's well proven wealth of analog modeling technology. The MMT sound engine has been featured on numerous products, and provides 2 oscillators that generate huge powerful sounds. Oscillator 1 (OSC1) gives you a total of 7 types of oscillator algorithm to choose from, including formant waveforms such as human voice, and PCM/DWGS waveforms for vintage keyboard and strings. It also lets you use techniques that cannot be imitated on typical PCM synthesizers, such as cross modulation, unison, and VPM (Variable Phase Modulation). By taking advantage of modulation (sync or ring) with oscillator 2 (OSC2), it's easy to create complex and powerful sounds.

The microKORG XL+ can function as a powerful vocoder that lets you connect a mic and use its audio input to shape the tonal character of the oscillator's sound to create talking effects. The vocoder consists of a 16-band filter bank that can simulate the vocoder sounds of the past and also shift the filter frequencies (Format Shift function) or adjust the level and pan of each band to dramatically change the sonic character. Using the Vocoder is an easy way to add sounds that can be found in today's popular electronic music. Since a gooseneck microphone is included, you can immediately start using thevocoder in your songs.

2 master effects utilize the effect engine that was brought to perfection in Korg's Kaoss Pad series, giving you a total of 17 powerful effect types including delay and echo effects as well as dramatic effects such as ring modulator and grain shifter. In addition, effects such as delay can be synchronized to MIDI clock for a wide range of possibilities in live performance.

Korg MS20 Mini Monophonic Analogue Synthesizer (white monotone)
Cat: 637508 Rel: 15 Feb 17

Classic Korg MS20 recreated in miniature size - limited edition model in white monotone
Notes: The KORG MS-20 mini is now available as a limited-edition white monotone variation model. This model is the first new colour to appear in the nearly 40 years since the original unit went on sale in 1978. Based on the black that is emblematic of the MS-20's distinctive presence, this new model features a clean white monotone for its front panel and knobs, while retaining the faithful circuitry, 5-pin MIDI, and USB MIDI of the black MS-20 mini. Combining a completely new freshness together with a vintage feel that befits the MS-20 as the original semi-modular synthesizer, this limited-edition model will be a great way to add classic MS-20 sounds to any setup!

Korg's MS-20 monophonic synthesizer, first introduced in 1978, is still a coveted instrument to this day, thanks to its thick, robust sound, its powerful, iconic analog filter, and its versatile patching options. Over 300,000 people have enjoyed the distinct MS-20 sounds from the original, from Korg's MS-20 plugin synth, or the iMS-20 iPad app.

Today, the sounds of the MS-20 have been reborn in hardware, as the MS-20 Mini. The same engineers who developed the original MS-20 have perfectly reproduced its circuitry and fit into a body that's been shrunk to 86% of the original size, yet retains the distinctive look of the original.

The MS-20 mini will amaze you with its absolutely authentic analog synth sound.

The Korg MS-20 Mini features 2 improved lower noise voltage controlled oscillators with selectable waveforms including ring modulation and noise, 2 voltage controlled high and low pass filters, 2 voltage controlled amplifiers, 2 envelope generators and an LFO. Part of the appeal of the original was its self oscillating, resonant filters that could be driven into distortion. They remain popular to this day and can also be found in the recent monotron and monotribe units as well as on the new MS-20 Mini.

Part of the versatility of the original Korg MS-20 was its flexible patching system, making it semi modular, and this has been recreated for the MS-20 Mini. It allows users to create uniquely complex, evolving, organic sounds by using patch cables to access and change the internal synth architecture, with the front panel flow chart guiding easy operation straight out of the box. Users can even patch external sources via the external signal processor to be processed in the same way as an oscillator, as well as benefitting from the rich harmonics added by the circuitry and filters.

This reissue of a modern classic will be an extremely welcome addition to Korg's current synth line and, with fantastic sound, versatility and ease of use, the MS-20 Mini is sure to win over many fans old and new.

Cat: 730432 Rel: 11 Jun 19

Bass line generator with a rhythmic chord section
Notes: The Arpopone from LepLoop is a little synth-voice for generating a melody or bass line and a chord section at the same time. It is based on analog ramp dividers of which each one generates a voltage ramp starting from a master clock that can be internal or external.

Trig1 and Trig2 potentiometers set the number of clock pulses.

With the Trig Mix switch it is possible to select between a single trigger (1 or 2) or both (1+2) to advance the scales.

The Scale Step potentiometer sets the number of steps for the two scale generators.
In the mixer section, the two scales are summed together to obtain a more complex pattern. The amount of each scale can be set by two controls and can be positive (ascending scale) or negative (descending scale).

With the VCO Pitch knob, the melody can be transposed while maintaining the same interval between notes.

The note generated by the VCO is fed to a chain of dividers to obtain four sub harmonics of the original note. One of these is the bass section with its own filter and envelope, the other three form the chord section with their envelope.

The two envelope sections are identical, both have a selector for different trigger sources:

Trig1 & Trig2: the envelope starts at the flash of the green LED (bass) or yellow LED (chord)
SB1 & SB2: the envelope starts at the first step of Scale1 (bass) or Scale2 (chord)
White & Blue: the envelope follows the intensity of the white LED (bass) or the blue LED (chord). Except for this setting the envelope length is set by the two controls Bass ENV and Chord ENV. Additionally, an EXT CV input allows to provide an external envelope.
The bass channel is passed through a resonant low-pass filter with Cutoff and Resonance control.

Finally the Bass and Chord channels are mixed together. The output level is set by the Bass LEV and Chord LEV controls.

Make Noise 0-Coast Semi-Modular Desktop Synthesiser
Make Noise 0-Coast Semi-Modular Desktop Synthesiser (semi-modular desktop synthesiser)
Cat: 599686 Rel: 26 Sep 16

Single voice patchable synthesiser
Notes: A modern classic. Superb little semi-modular monosynth in its own right, but comes alive when paired with other modular gear. A great option for beginners and experienced synth users alike.

Supplier's notes:
The 0-COAST is a single voice patchable synthesizer. Its name reflects the fact that it utilizes techniques from both the Moog and Buchla paradigms (aka "East Coast," and "West Coast," due to their locations), but is loyal to neither and thus implements "no coast synthesis."

While the 0-COAST utilizes classic modular synthesis techniques, it's designed to operate with or without the use of patch cables. The necessary connections have been made from circuit to circuit so it operates as an expressive, musical MonoSynth. Using only the MIDI controller of your choice you could apply new timbres to your existing musical forms!

Using the included Patch Cables you could get more scientific, experimenting with new ways to wire up the circuits. You might even forgo MIDI altogether, disappearing into a cloud of analog FM induced Sidebands and harmonics scattered around a single fundamental drone that has nothing to do with any form of music you've ever known.

Novation Circuit Mono Station Paraphonic Analogue Synthesizer
Cat: 647241 Rel: 15 Aug 17

Compact, next-generation monosynth with 32 velocity-sensitive RGB pads
Notes: Circuit Mono Station is a next-generation sequenced monosynth that originates from the Bass Station II, with three sequencer tracks that benefit from the 32 velocity-sensitive RGB pads found on Circuit.

The synth has two oscillators, three distortion modes, plus one multi-mode filter with high-pass, low-pass or band-pass. With Circuit Mono Station, the sync and tuning parameters of its two oscillators can be individually controlled. It also offers four waveshapes (sawtooth, triangle, square and sample + hold), a sub-oscillator, ring modulation and noise generation. Users can get the frequency band they want by applying high-pass, low-pass and band-pass filters with slopes of 12dB and 24dB.

In addition, Circuit Mono Station introduces a powerful overdrive. Both monophonic and paraphonic modes are available, with each oscillator individually controlled by its own sequencer. There are three sequencer tracks: two oscillator sequencers and one modulation sequencer. Users can alter Gate length, switch patterns instantly, choose sync rate and mutate patterns.

A four-by-eight modulation matrix makes it possible to route from LFO with four waveshapes, envelope, sequencer or velocity, enabling complex modulation for pitch, pulse-width, amp, filter, distortion or CV. Up to 64 patches can be loaded and saved on the device, right at the user's fingertips. Circuit Mono Station controls separate hardware via CV, Gate and modulation outputs, and has MIDI In, Out and Thru, so other MIDI gear can be connected. Via USB, Circuit Mono Station can be plugged into Mac or PC, where unlimited patches can be managed using Components.
