Nothing Left To Lose (Four Tet instrumental) (4:33)
Nothing Left To Lose (extended club dub) (6:35)
Review: Legendary UK indie hopefuls turned leftfield dance-pop institution Everything But the Girl aka Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn have got their first album in over 20 years dropping around about now. Before that though they have commissioned some superb remixes of the lead single. One is from Four Tet, whom they say they have always loved for the "meditative but propulsive thing in his music. The restraint mixed with momentum." He pulls off that trick again here with a fine remix, and he also supplies an instrumental, then comes extended club and dub mixes of the original from Ben Watt and Bruno Ellingham.

Honeymoon (Definitive mix) (9:30)
Calling The Quarters (Beauty Below mix) (7:20)
Outlandis (Deep Anatolian mix) (5:29)
Chalice (Secret Acid mix) (9:48)
Review: Robbert Heynen aka Exquisite Corpse served up one of last year's finest EPs with his Integration 12". Now though he has opened up his superb archives and invited the one and only Greek maestro Anatolian Weapons to set to work reworking it for this fresh new four-track EP on Transmigration. It's a deep and dubby affair to start with on 'Honeymoon' (Definitive mix) while 'Calling The Quarters' (Beauty Below mix) is awash with trippy electronic lines and shimmering pads. 'Outlandis' (Deep Anatolian mix) is a heavy, percolating bit of elongated electronic dub with 'Chalice' (Secret Acid mix) closing down the EP with another slow and captivating rhythm made from jumbled parts and tribal drums.

Becalmed (5:59)
Review: International Feel kicks off what is presumably a new series given its title, Mediterranean Dreams - Part 1. For it, they turn to Perugia synth obsessive, underground mainstay and fine producer Feel Fly for four tracks of breezy and sunny disco-house chuggers. 'Onironauta' brings retro Italo chords and nice chunky drums, 'Grace In Space' is a leggy cosmic wonder with far-sighted chords and muted acid magic, then 'Mediterranean Dreams' is pure 80s dream house bliss. 'Becalmed' is the most rough edged and analogue house jack track of the lot.

Domelo Ance (3:48)
Review: The Dolfin label has been rolling out some high quality jams of late and are currently building up to a much anticipated album from Blaque Dynamite that is worth keeping an eye open for. Now they look to Felix for this hand-stamped vinyl 7" 'Kween In My Eyes'. It is a slow, low slung and heart-warming deep house sound with a hooky beat and jazzy chord draped over the drums as a smooth r&b vocal is smeared into the mix. On the flip is the even more downbeat and late night 'Domelo Ance' with its lazy and heat damaged chords making for a super seductive sound. A steamy 45 then, for sure.

Why (4:26)
Review: In cahoots with legendary Japanese record store Jet Set, Freestyle Records has decided to offer-up a 45 featuring two tidy cuts from Lance Ferguson's Rare Groove Spectrum 2 album, a second set of inspired cover versions from the multi-instrumentalist, bandleader and producer. On side A the Melbourne-based musician gives his take on Azymuth classic 'Veo Sobre O Horizonte', re-imaging it as a starry, vintage synth-laden shuffle through sun-baked South American jazz-funk complete with woozy horns, Herbie Hancock keyes and eyes-closed female vocalizations. On the reverse Ferguson turns his hand to Carly Simon's 'Why', adding gorgeous horn solos and sunset-ready flourishes to a faithful re-recording of the reggae-influenced number's familiar groove.

Review: Scott Ferguson came to house and techno in one of its most fertile grounds - Detroit, in the mid 90s. Since then he has served up his own take on the timeless genres on a range of quality labels. Now he arrives on Chateau Chepere with four more of his stylish cuts. They are couched in deep house as always but with cues taken from future jazz, garage and plenty in between. These are real winter warmers that will seduce an early evening crowd or lock in a 5 am dance floor in equal measure.

Morning Routine (Belearico mix) (6:18)
Review: After a standout debut on the label in 2020, Andrea Ferrari returns to Rollover Milano with a new EP charged with Balearic mystique and a truckload of silken synth wares. 'Deep Blue, Green Eyes' is a boxy beatdown in the rhythm section, but the cooing pads, FM chimes and bubbling FX create a delectable dreamscape to drift off into. By way of comparison, 'Subacqueo' jacks up the pressure with a trance-leaning cut splashed with some particularly wigged-out acid lines. Bell Towers takes up the mood of the track and injects a little uptempo joy on a typically sweet remix draped in blissed out melodics, and then the record gets rounded off with some deeper peak time immersion on the seriously immersive piano house stylings of 'Morning Routine'.

Room '96 (recorded live at Room Nightclub, Hull) (8:32)
Review: The legendary deep house duo Fila Brazilia return with another retrospective four-track, following last year's Mermaids' reissue. Steel Tiger Records founder Steve Cobby and lecturer David McSherry ha da whirlwind romance with the house scene, one they reignited in 2020 after a 16-year separation. 'Subtle Body' serves as an incredible reintroduction to the dynamic duos sound, tripped-out dubby beats and raw house sessions, with the title track's layered chimes, looped delay feedback and floaty chords blasting right out of the gate. What follows is an unreleased instrumental version of 'Nightfall' from the 2002 album 'Jump Leads', an industrial ambient drifter.

On Side B, the tempo and temperature rises, and we're treated to 'The Light Of Jesus', from the debut LP 'Old Codes: New Chaos'. A bumping house groove, smooth organ and sweet bass combine for an unforgettable track that has stood the test of time fiercely. The EP rounds out with 'Room '96', a live house jam from Hull's Room nightclub - a time capsule to better days. The songs here on Subtle Body might be a window into a time long past, but they remain in the present: and as long as bodies seek pleasure, and dancers want to keep going til sunrise, Fila Brazillia will endure, and soundtrack those moments for us all to get lost in.

Review: Flashbaxx's 'Take Care My Friend', released in 2020, is notable for its blend of jazz-funk instrumentation, audible warmth, and memorable songwriting - centring on the subject of a broken-down relationship refracted through the lens of hybrid nu jazz and slow-motion soul. Its terse seven tracks now hear a remix EP on the same issuing label, Nunorthern Soul, charting electronic remixes by Tambores En Benirras, Moods, and of course, everyone's favourite jazzdance status symbol, Atjazz. The remixes are deeply layered and come tempered with the feel of live playing despite their electronic interpretation; indeed, this is a quality selection and producers' delight.

Review: The In Waves label is fast approaching its tentth release but before that it turns once again to Flowers On Monday for this lush new four track EP featuring Amega and Weam Ismail. It's the rousing and hymnal sounds of 'Featuring Amega And Weam Ismail.' that open up with loose, interwoven grooves and stirring melodies all topped off by the prayer-like vocals of Ismail. Review: Forslag Pa Musik invites you to spend a few super chill hours with him by their native Swedish coastline on this lush new 7" on Terrasolare. It follows a fine outing on his own Sunken Rock label in the form of his first album Book Of Mirrors and is a delightfully laidback and mellow offing with pads for day demeaning and gentle analogue beats with a warm and fuzzy edge. The melodies are innocent and the percussion a deft sprinkling of texture. This is the sort of tackle to heat you to the core and bring a smile to your face.

This time out we get the brilliantly Balearic works of Franco Essa on a 45rpm that have you won over the second you see the delicious cover art. 'Pelle Di Luna' kicks off with innocent melodies and retro-future jazz funk production as well as some nice deep and rolling beats. Review: Blair French is the next quality artist to make their debut on the increasingly vital MotorCity Wine imprint out of Detroit. He brings hints of Balearic as well as signature smoky deep house from the 313 to his work here. 'Ancestarians' (Physical Mix) also has pan-African influences, jazzy melodies and rich organic percussion while the Spiritual Mix is all about going deep into ambient bliss. 'Champagne Kiddie Pool' then looks even deeper into the musical niches of South America with dembow rhythms overlaid with lively claps and cosmic chords. Last of all is 'Sandbox Fossils with driving bass from James Simonson and guitar from Ryan Gimpert.

Review: Dial 81 and tell them it's an emergency... Blair French has dropped his second single this year and there are only 300 copies in existence! Following "Standing Still Is An Illusion" on Rocksteady Disco come two more sublime Balearic affairs that fit Claremont 56 like a snug pair of speedos; "Sandbar Caviar" wafts and sways with island waves as gentle arpeggios ebb and flow creating harmonies and cosmic textures while "Inland Island" adjusts our seats to a horizontal position with its snaking bassline and spacious percussion gradually opening into a heavenly vocal and guitar lead that's tantamount to transcendental.

Review: Blair French is a brilliant groove-smith who has turned out plenty of classics on the likes of Claremont 65, Rocksteady Disco and Razor-N-Tape. After a recent new limited 12" in April he makes a quick return with this a-side gem, 'The Bird Watcher.' It's a loose and worldwide disco sound with organic perc and languid bass next to wild bird calls and hypnotic flute leads.
Eddie Logix's 'Sunshine, Sunblock' then brings a dubbed out vibe with more jungle sound effects and naturalistic atmospheres.

Review: Javi Frias has earned a solid reputation as a producer on the international disco scene since he began releasing his edits and reworks back in 2015. However, this year, during confinement, he decided to put editing aside to unleash his creativity and start recording his own productions, playing with synthesizers, electric pianos, syncopated basses and tribal percussion, and the result is this 'Sunset Disco EP'. A collection of songs that take us to a summer sunset on a beach in paradise that represent a huge leap in the career of this artist. The A side begins with 'Give Love', a hedonistic and melancholic disco song, followed by 'Noche Tropical', with Balearic overtones and reminiscences of a Caribbean party. Side B opens with 'Are You Really Fellas?', a funky little number featuring jazzy guitars and smashing bass. 'Dance With Me' brings us back to the field of the emotional and evocative disco. And finally 'Musical Connection', with touches of reggae downtempo perfect to say goodbye to this eternal and warm sunset.

23-130 (6:22)
22-105 (5:02)
Review: Burnt Friedman and Joao Pais Filipe's collaborative efforts began back in 2018. The former using synthesis and electronics to paint subtly but incredibly specific aural pictures, the latter focusing on the drum and rhythmic end of things. At times their music feels entirely designed for the dancefloors of underground electronic clubs, in other moments it's something very different indeed.

This latest EP lives up to those broad brushstrokes. '21-30' is a lush, almost tropical sounding workout that offers a complex percussive pattern, and combines these with gentle shades of melody, harmony, hook and distorted note. '22-105' brings elements of glitchiness and robotics into the mix. Meanwhile, '18-140' would work well as a brooding building tool (or section) of a 'proper techno' mix, with '23-130' bridging gaps between the lot.

Review: The Friends 4 Ever label follows up its transformation of a well known classic horror movie theme for halloween with a new EP that takes a trip into Afro house territory. 'Touareg' is named after a Malian tribe and brings some of their hypnotic vocal chants and Malian blues sounds to a surging and synth laced house groove that never quits. 'Afreekah' is more string laced and melodic with some feel good horns leading the way as it unfolds in loose limbed fashion. Another useful EP from this fledgling label.

It is studiously run by Italian Marco, who is also a deep-digging DJ himself, a part of the Balearic Gabba Soundsystem and also co-founder of much loved Berlin club night Buena Onda. The night's second compilation is coming soon but before that is this taster which gives you a great cross-section of the sounds to expect: leftfield disco, mature grooves, deep and slow acid workouts and plenty in between. Review: Jo Wallace's Ramrock label has always proved adept at blending reggae, dub and lovers rock with elements of jazz, soul and Balearic beats. You'll find a similar blend of sounds at the heart of the label's latest 12" - a fine, roots reggae style cover version of Aaron Neville's much-loved rare groove jam 'Hercules' by Asian Dub Foundation singer Ghetto Priest. His version (side A) is effortlessly soulful, with warming horns, clipped guitars and his own sublime vocals rising above a languid reggae riddim. Arguably even better is Darren Morris and Ashley Beedle's flipside remix, which adds bluesy pianos, hazy horns, vibrant Clavinet riffs and Ghetto Priest's vocals to a faithful rendition of the swinging, bumpin' groove that made Neville's 1973 version so addictive.

Now Thank You has put together this 12" package with three different versions of 'Don't Leave Me Alone.' The original dropped in 1987 and was an instant euro-pop classic. Review: Re:st continues to be an incredible source of adventurous thinking beyond the structures of drum & bass, and this latest record from Ghost Warrior would be hard pressed to claim an obvious link to the genre. It's more of an experimental jazz offering, using hollowed out notes and whispers of instrumentation, and yet somewhere in the sampling-as-artform process it captures some of the mind-bending magic of Source Direct, Photek et al. Delicate and moody as hell, this is another realm of music opening up and it's one we hope we get to explore deeper on further releases.

Review: Trip-hop meets modern digital ambience on Gi Gi's latest for INDEX:Records. Nothing but the music meets the ear here, plunging us into ricochety sonic hotwirings from the jump. Allusions to dancehall ('Maiolica'), dub ('Palm Slick') and illbient ('Lilted Song') ring true here, while a vocal feature on the track 'Sinews' - from fellow mic-caresser and expert moniker-coiner Hysterical Love Project - yields a sound that recalls something like the combined sonics of HTRK and 3XL. A not-to-miss EP for anyone who loves it textural.

Review: Omena once again calls on the superb sounds of Golden Retriever for this adventurous new EP that very much takes you away from the here and now and deposits you somewhere warmer. 'Part Lake' opens up with the joys of a spring day - acoustic strings rippling out as sun beams down. 'Andro Dunos' slows to a crawl and has a more star-gazing feel while 'Digambara' is a gentle rhythm that casts you out to sea. Two variations of 'Modulations' allows you to get lost in some lush synth tapestries and 'Kizuna Encounter' then ends with another lovely sonic day dream that empties your mind.

Review: Following up last year's production with Baltimore techno legend Maurice Fulton on 'Jigoo', the next release on Gudu is the first of two songs by label boss Peggy Gou that she will release over the coming months. Her first single in over two years, it translates to 'Butterfly' and is another collaboration. This time with fellow Korean sensation OHHYUK who is the lead singer and guitarist in the band Hyukoh. 'Nabi' is a downtempo, pop-inflected number said to be inspired by '80s synth classics and '90s Korean songs that Gou's mother used to play at home during her childhood.

Review: The follow up to 'Sun Circles' is here: 'Jour De Fete' (French for "day of celebration") is a sweltering slab of festive inner city disco of the highest order. Flip the record for a mighty, extended dub by cult hero Conrad McDonnell of Idjut Boys fame. 'Nuff said.

Review: DJ and producer Gratts returns to his own imprint with the third instalment of the "Balearic but bumpin'" trilogy. Here, the Belgian puts forward a captivating piece of organic, Body & Soul NY inspired deep house, assisted by Cata Mansikka-aho on vocals. As always, an instrumental is provided for maximum nightclub daydreaming. On the flipside, British duo Faze Action up the energy levels with an equally musical disco version that hits in all the right spots. Artwork once again by Mads Cooke.
