Review: Fent Plates keeps it utterly deep with this new selection, Slowed & Reverb Versions. It's the work of Aether and comes pressed on white marbled vinyl in mad limited numbers. The beats are seriously heady and kick off with heart aching vocal slurs stretched over a lazy rhythm. Elsewhere the likes of 'Should Have Known' is another codeine paced sub-aquatic crawl with heavy-hearted hits and linger, melancholic vocals drifting forlornly. 'Together We Will Live Forever' is a divine closer with delicate melodic droplets and more drowsy vocals sure to slow your pulse and chill you right out.

Review: Make The Ting originated from Elijah's online writings on creativity, known as 'Yellow Squares' on Instagram and Twitter. The first post appeared on July 31, 2021, as COVID-19 restrictions were lifted in the UK and then evolved into lectures and broader explorations of his creativity. In summer 2022, Blay Vision's 'Cammy Riddim' sparked the idea of translating Yellow Squares into songs. Collaborating with Grime MC Jammz, the pair created the track 'Yellow Square' and during a Muay Thai retreat in February 2023, Elijah expanded it into an album that is presented here and emphasised speed and spontaneity, choosing final instrumentals the day before recording. It is a cutting-edge exploration of bass, grime and trap.

Review: Through Lines is 3024 label founder Martyn's first career-spanning retrospective - a collection of personal favourites recorded and released between 2005 and 2015 whose title alludes to the trademark sonic characteristics that have remained at the heart of his hard-to-pigeon-hole, always-evolving productions. He reflects on these - and wider sonic shifts within bass music and techno - in nine essays showcased in the booklet that accompanies this deluxe edition. It's a terrific collection all told, with Martyn choosing to showcase tracks that variously mix and match elements of dubstep, polyrhythmic techno, UK garage, Detroit techno, broken beat, 140, drum and bass and deep techno. A thoughtfully put together package that scores highly on all counts.

Misperceptions EP
Cat: PRGMM 007. Rel: 18 Jun 24
Location Tracker (3:52)
Koh (4:52)
Unexpected Encounters (4:54)
Misperceptions (6:02)
Review: Mod Sens debuts on Programm LDN with an electrifying blend of soundsystem influences, techno, and electro. Based in Malmo, Sweden, he channels his diverse musical perspectives through the renowned Melt club night in his hometown. This EP, 'Misperceptions,' reflects a period when electro dominated Malmo's underground scene and therefore inspired the artist to craft his interpretation of them. The tracks are introspective, featuring melancholic pads juxtaposed with robust drums and a commanding low-end as Mod Sens explores themes of restlessness and constraint, resulting in four elevated compositions that push Programm LDN's commitment to advancing club music.

Corollary 1
Cat: OMTCOR 001. Rel: 30 May 24
Lemma1 (feat LNS & Ekowmania - DJ Sotofett remix) (5:44)
Lemma1 (VIP) (4:12)
Lemma1 (Ossia remix) (6:04)
Lemma1 (VIP) (5:43)
Review: As deep dubstep continues to be ever more prominent, OM Theorem makes a mark with a new self-titled label that explores plenty of sounds that are as heady as they are physical. Up first is 'Lemma1' which is an elastic and heavyweight club cut and arrives first as a DJ Sotofett remix. The VIP mix then stops things back to a sparse and menacing prowl, while the Ossia remix layers in impossibly thick low-end oscillations that will tickle your inner ear. A second VIP mix closes down with some mind-melting percussion and warped synth work that drills in deep.

Oaken
Oaken (translucent smoked pink vinyl 12")
Cat: WPR 051R. Rel: 10 Jun 24
Oaken (feat Ed Hodge) (6:01)
Lawless (4:38)
Spent (5:09)
Where Ya From (4:41)
Review: Now four years deep, Taiko's 'Oaken' still shines as White Peach remind us with this lovely limited pink vinyl. The title track, smouldering with Hodge's sax clouds, hits with a hard chill edge before we spiral deeper and deeper into the mystic mire. 'Lawless' cascades into a fluting tooting mess, 'Spent' is the sonic equivalent of a marble effect, all molten and oily but prone to sudden flurries and 'Where Ya From' finishes on the most dancefloor minded vibe as the bass wobbles away under those ever present flutes. Sublime. Just as it was back then. Don't sleep on this like you did last time.
