Ghettoboom Vol 1
Ghettoboom Vol 1 (12" + sticker + MP3 download code limited to 300 copies)
Cat: FCR 008. Rel: 18 Sep 20
  1. 1905 - "Recorddeals" (3:12)
  2. DJ Pirna - "Booty Snapper" (4:05)
  3. Vulvareen & 1905 - "Get Your Head Bust" (3:30)
  4. DJ Pirna - "Cars Fo Women" (4:03)
  5. Vulvareen - "Jerk In The Sand, Sleep In That Sand" (4:18)
  6. 1905 - "Sometimes Sweet, Sometimes Salty" (4:30)
Review: Former City launch what will presumably be new various artist sears here with Volume 1 of Ghettoboom. It features two tracks each by three different artists on a super limited 12" that has a healthy dose of streetwise swagger. There are rave samples and big breaks on 1905's 'Recorddeals' while DJ Pirna gets for a more soul soothing and loved up vocal vibe on his super sweet bumper 'Booty Snapper. Bringing a third different sound is 'Get Your Head Bust', a high speed, lo-fi techno cut with turbo claps. The flip also features footwork style club tracks, lush deep house and urgent floor pumpers. This one covers lots of ground in real style

Electro In The Key Of Detroit Vol 1
  1. Aux 88 - "Phantom Power" (7:54)
  2. Blak Tony - "Holla Holla" (3:32)
  3. Posatronix - "Pure Techno Sound" (5:50)
  4. DJ K-1 - "Erase The Time" (6:36)
Review: From the minds of Direct Beat and Detroit Bass Classics, comes the first initial compilation of electro/techno heat. "Electro In The Key Of Detroit Vol 1" presents 4 proven dance floor dope and record crate staples that provide the hungry ears of masses the groove to move. A Side features two sure-fire steppers - a rare AUX 88 voyage entitled "Phantom Power" and Blak Tony's tempo-pushing "Holla Holla" finally see the light of day on this wax collectable, giving praise to Motor City footwork culture. On the flip, DJ K-1's "Erase The Time" rocked the airwaves and global clubs with its signature thumping style laced beneath alien-like melody and repetitive vocal structure while Posatronix's mutant-rhythm mantra, "Pure Techno Sound" pulls the weight of Detroit's street dance roots down to the origin of how to boogie in space. This collection of re-issued jams and new explorations is the must-have for the electro/techno & bass aficionado.

Saft Und Wasser
Cat: GOD 001. Rel: 11 May 20
  1. Saft Und Wasser (club mix) (5:52)
  2. Saft Und Wasser (DNAonDNA dub) (2:31)
  3. Saft Und Wasser (O Wells mix) (4:19)
  4. X2 (feat Jonny5 & Badboyblondey - DJ Swagger mix) (3:42)
Review: After guesting on such labels as E-Beamz, Natural Sciences and Who's Susan, DJ Swagger established the Goddess Music imprint late last year. Fittingly, the label's first vinyl missive features the man himself in cahoots with German mic man Caramelo. The latter delivers a weary-sounding rap over "Saft Und Wasser", a warm and spacey electro cut that's as emotive as it is energetic. DnAonDnA brilliantly re-imagine the track as a hazy chunk of spaced-out electronic dub, before sometime Chiwax, Die Orakel and Natural Sciences artist Orson Wells turns it into a deep and crunchy IDM number. There's a fine bonus too in the shape of DJ Swagger's remix of "X2", a high-octane ghetto-tech/electro number featuring a seriously squelchy bassline and vocal contributions from Jonny5 and Badboyblondey.

Cong Burn 05
Cong Burn 05 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: CB 05. Rel: 01 Jul 19
  1. Chekov - "Math" (Squared mix) (5:26)
  2. Doppelate - "Rreal" (5:59)
  3. Camin - "Duct" (4:37)
  4. Howes - "BED" (6:07)
Review: On the A1 Chekov follows up their moves on Peach Discs and Timedance with a proper peak timer, they've been described by Ben UFO as 'king of the build up' and that's evident on this one. At the A2 London's Doppelate makes their Cong Burn debut with an elegant tech-house roller. Fresh from Russia's underground is Camin, on this, his debut 12" release he drops a useful tool which squeezes between electro and techno. Cong Burn founder Howes closes the B side with some warm hypnosis that could have landed in the golden era of Workshop.

Run The Length Of Your Wildness
Cat: HOBO 008. Rel: 15 Jan 18
  1. Cherushii - "The Industrial City" (7:56)
  2. Nackt - "Next" (5:47)
  3. Roche - "One For Cherushii" (8:01)
  4. David Last - "All That's Left" (feat Lavender - dance mix) (5:51)
Review: Besides its inimitable name, Hobo Camp has had a pretty unbeatable first few years in the game, switching up the electro sound with shades of loopy house and techno. These guys have released over two dozen EPs since 2016, and are showing no signs of stopping if this new collaborative release is anything to by! Pumping the vibes through with utter ease, Run The Length Of Your Wilderness is a daring, rip-roaring amalgamation of tech-driven sounds that span just about every quality corner of the game. "The Industrial City", from Cherushii, moans and weeps with a fragile acid bassline over broken percussion beats, while Nackt's "Next" floats at a house tempo, driven forwards by a winding bass from the darkest corners of the 4/4 game. On the flip, Roche's "One For Cherushii" bigs up his counterpart with a deep, aqueous house chugger, and David Last's "All That's Left" drops a clean, sparkly prog house groover for the lovers.

Cruel Trance

  1. Low (7:14)
  2. 4 Leaf (5:55)
  3. Cruel Trance (6:57)
  4. 8 In Congo R (8:29)
Review: In keeping with both her recent output and the releases of Australia's LKR Records, the latest EP from Sophie Sweetland AKA D. Tiffany is drowsy, dreamy, hallucinatory and shot through with references to both vintage ambient techno and the more psychedelic end of the '90s IDM spectrum. There's much to admire across the four tracks, from the spaced-out, mind-altering haziness of melodious, off-kilter opener "Low" - all twisted, acid-inspired synth sounds, LSD-trip electronics and skewed electro rhythms - to the chunky ambient breaks business of "Cruel Trance" and the feverish, strangely-swung quirkiness of gently pulsing IDM number "4leaf".

Highways Of Live EP
Cat: LUMI 002. Rel: 31 Oct 19
  1. The Downtown Spiral (7:41)
  2. Burnout (6:15)
  3. Terrible Lie (7:05)
  4. Exhaust-Ed (5:48)
Review: Frenchman Daif offers up a personal musical story for the second release from the fledgling Luminaere label. He's already impressed on the likes of Art of Dark and Tone Dropout but this might be his most mature yet: "The Downtown Spiral" is a turbulent cosmic ride with urgency in the arpeggiated synths, "Burnout" then goes into electro meltdown thanks to the whirring machines and blurting pads, bristling hits and manic drum programming that all echo the suggestion of the title. "Terrible Lie" is about picking yourself up and going again on a surging intergalactic techno groove and "Exhaust-Ed" is a late night trip that closes out this fantastic mini-adventure.

Floating With The Current EP

  1. Dan Piu - "Dusky & Puish" (7:05)
  2. Dan Piu - "Depresismatica" (5:28)
  3. Pohl - "Mello Phone" (5:26)
  4. Pohl - "Space In The Distance" (5:59)
Review: Ovine build on the momentum of their first EP with another new house offering that is beautifully deep. It features two tracks each from Dan Piu and Pohl, and they all hack back to dreamy Italo, classic Mr Fingers and the more pensive Chicago greats. "Depresismatica" is a real highlight with its meandering basslines and infinite cosmic horizons. "Mello Phone" offers more pixelated melodies and busy beats and "Space In The Distance" has the sort of freaky edges and dusty analog textures house lovers always fall for. Already, then, this is a label that is setting a high standard.

  3. DJ Overdose - "I See No Stars At Night" (4:16)
  4. DJ Overdose - "Potje Freaken" (4:55)
Review: The Go Finger label has been digging into the undergrowth of synthwave sounds and deviant electro for a few years now, more recently graduating from the tape scene to put out EPs of leftfield electronic adventures on wax. This EP in particular is quite something, calling on the vintage talents of Das Ding in all their eerie, warped, pulsing, analogue refinement. "Conun Drum" is a curiously playful trip through noirish cityscapes by way of strobing lead lines and militaristic machine beats, while "Life Is A Tool In The Hands Of Strangers" takes a more uptempo approach without losing the bombast of their melodic arrangements. Dutch electro champ DJ Overdose steps up for the B side, dropping the overcast and creeping "I See No Stars At Night" and the dishevelled robot beatdown "Potje Freaken".

Review: The second release to come from fresh new imprint Future Massive, the 'Existenzmaximum EP' from John M Davies aka Datassette is five brand new tracks of sublime and wonky electronics that perfectly combines the analogue and the digital, resulting in a record that runs the gamut of electro, chilled acid, braindance, IDM and everything in between. This carefully considered EP offers a return to that classic and instantly recognisable Datassette sound and much, much more.

Review: La dame Noir is a Marseille-based label who first crept onto vinyl with a crucial various artists release back in 2016. Now they're back with more of that noirish modern disco deviance that made them an exciting proposition first time around. "Take The Shock Away" is a bittersweet groover by Dawad and label co-founder Relatif Yann, with pitch-perfect vocals by Mounissa which sounds strong on its own. The label however has drafted in a list of big hitters to deliver remixes, from Vox Low's synthwave laced trip to Pete Herbert's punchy electro-disco burner. Whichever version you plump for, the quality is undeniable on this surefooted 12".

Review: We are proud to present two new EPs from De Bons en Pierre, the duo of Beau Wanzer & Maoupa Mazzocchetti. Beau Wanzer spends the majority of his days sifting through paraffin embedded animal tissues and reading old issues of Fangoria, occasionally breaking his monotonous routine to record in various fits and bursts. As well as solo material, he is also in numerous projects including Streetwalker, Mutant Beat Dance, Civil Duty, and Corporate Park. Maoupa Mazzocchetti is the pseudonym of Florent Mazzocchetti, a French producer based in Brussels. His sonic vision is one which constantly straddles the line between wild experimentation and rhythmic compatibility, drawing influence from early concrete, 80's tape scene and Birmingham school techno. After working together on the 'Crepes' EP that we released in 2017, De Bons en Pierre reunited for a two day recording session in Brussels. The duo recorded 13 tracks that we've split across 2 EPs with 6 tracks on 'EP No. 1' and 7 tracks on 'EP No. 2'. Beau says, "We hooked everything up and just pushed play. We didn't really discuss much about the process....it was very 'spur of the moment'." The equipment set up included a Roland TR-808, TR-606, SH-101, CR-78, CR-8000, two Syncussions and effects. Each EP contains 25 minutes of dance floor perversions that tackle an array of rhythmic forms. Sludgy synths, serrated percussion and viscous distortion goops over leviathan rhythms. All songs are mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. 'EP No. 1' is housed in a sewage green jacket featuring a monster mask duo and spiky motifs designed by Florent Mazzocchetti, and 'EP No. 2' is radioactive orange with a different pair of monster masks.

Review: Junto Club kicked off Snap Crackle & Pop late last year, and now the label returns with the debut solo release from London-based outfit DEEDS. While Rollo and Kiri Inglis may have previously popped up on an obscure compilation on Anti-Ghost Moon Ray, this record should see their coldwave sound shoring up with many more adventurous listeners. "Video Dreams" is a beautifully melancholic slice of electronica while "Unknown" reaches for euphoric heights. Remixes from Bezier and The Field round the record out as a wonderful exercise in emotive home listening electronics for sensitive souls.

Dedictated To Uwe
  1. Herzogen (5:06)
  2. Vondekloties (5:06)
Review: Cedric Dewkowski and Felix Reifenberg have long been associated with Frankfurt collective Hardworksoftdrink, with the pair's 2017 collaborative full-length L'Album still the only LP that the label has released to date. Typically, the artistic imprint has not offered up much information about Dedicated to Uwe, their latest joint 12". Regardless, it's well worth a listen thanks to the pair's love of far-sighted synth sounds and firm grasp of mood and melody. A-side 'Herzogen' is particularly enjoyable, with the duo peppering a gentle electro rhythm with sun-bright keyboard stabs, squelchy acid bass, starry chords and cheerful melodies. There's a similar blend of sounds at play on flipside 'Vondekloties', which reminded us a little of the colourful, retro-futurist IDM of Birmingham-based synthesizer fetishists Plone.

Review: Some five months after his last outing - the decidedly experimental techno blast of "Simo" on Modal Analysis - Delta Funktionen returns via his first ever outing on Cultivated Electronics. The experienced producer hits the ground running with "Intrusion", an acid-flecked slab of spooky electro futurism, before dipping the tempo a little and reaching for some sparkling synthesizer lead lines on the laidback electro shuffle of "Moonstone Road". He does his best impression of "Computer World"-era Kraftwerk on the high-octane thrills of "GL_T2C_H3TR4", while "Siberian Surf" is a rock solid electro roller whose throbbing analogue bassline, clandestine electronic melodies and trippy effects make it sound faintly foreboding.

Review: Hailing from the fertile community they have built up around them in Bucharest, Delusion Men and their label Future Nuggets represent a very different twist on the contemporary Romanian electronic music scene. This album is a prime case in point, dealing in off-kilter wavey synths, intriguing rhythmic approaches and spooked out atmospheres that speak as much to the folkloric mystery of the East as any electronic traditions from other parts of the world. If you're drawn to music that sends you to exotic new places on the fringes of your imagination, then Stuck On The Border is the album for you.

Review: Having launched the Decade Box imprint last September via a punchy EP featuring a fine Radioactive Man remix, veteran producer Derailleur (real name Lee Graves) returns to the imprint with a similarly impressive sequel. In its original form, "Formula 14" is an impressive chunk of outer-space electro where computer bleeps, robotic vocals and metallic electronic motifs buzz around spaced-out beats and a vibrating bassline. British electro stalwart Carl Finlow adds a little more dancefloor weight on his robo-electro revision - think beefed-up Kraftwerk meets LFO on Jupiter - while Adam Reid's revision is a moody, bass-heavy breakbeat beast.

Review: Motor City artist Detroit's Finest doesn't do things by half - his electro is turbo-charged, with big booty bass and rave sirens underlining hard raps and streetwise swagger. He now finds himself on Casa Voyager outta France, laying out a double 12" vision that is varied and vital. After the urban opener 'Hands Behind Your Back' that is all about snapping snare loops and impromptu block parties, 'Undefeated' veers towards jungle madness. There are also sci-fi excursions, sample heavy and jazz tinged rollers like 'Blaxploitation' and pure ghetto bangers in 'Dis N Dat'. This one might be the mysterious producer's best yet.

Revision! Vol 1: Work Terminal
Cat: SUCTION 036. Rel: 17 Nov 15
  1. Work Terminal (4:18)
  2. Work Terminal (OH revision) (6:53)
  3. Work Terminal (Solvent version) (7:11)
  4. Work Terminal (Metro Tekno version) (6:31)
Review: Digital Poodle are one of those outfits from the 1980's who happened to stumble onto techno by accident, focusing on making deadly, driving songs rather than fitting into a genre or style. Alongside them there are the likes of Psychik Warriors Ov Goia and a few others, but this stuff is pretty damn hard to come by, and releases like this are few and far between. The impressive Suction label out of Canada has decided to reissue their "Work Terminal" tune - a screeching, venomous bit of screamo EBM - backed by a trio of remixes. OH transform "Work Terminal" into a more direct techno bullet with subtle swarms of the original's screams, while Solvent give it a more aggressive reshape a-la electro. It's the Metro Tekno version that gets our attention, though, and those heavy percussion patterns must surely be total winners on the sound system.

Hexafunk/Nightmoves #1
Cat: WORMO 21. Rel: 31 Oct 19
  1. Diode - "06Funk" (5:41)
  2. Diode - "Waterhole" (6:50)
  3. Grumptronix - "The Witching Hour" (9:04)
Review: Wormhole Wisdom's next three outings are reissues of Diode material that has become hugely sought after, as well as including Grumptronix's previously unheard tune "The Witching Hour": it is a brilliantly haunting electro tune with an eerie baseline echoing out into an empty sky while busy drums shuffle and wiggle in the foreground. As for Diode, "06Funk" is an elastic electro track with whip-snapping hits and sci-fi pads that tie you in knots, while "Waterhole" is a more thoughtful and insular track thanks to the gentle undulations of acid and melancholic chords that dampen down the icy hi hats.

Listen To The Basic Moves (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: BMX 01. Rel: 16 Jun 20
  1. DJ Booth - "Defaulted (Industry)" (4:43)
  2. DJ Booth - "The Door" (5:22)
  3. Walrus - "Can't Get New Shoes" (6:45)
  4. Walrus - "Free City Light" (5:26)
Review: A sticker on the front of this 12" from Brussels-based Basic Moves proudly proclaims that 100 per cent of sales royalties will be donated to charity. It's a nice move and one that should guarantee that the record is taken even more seriously. Like much of the label's output, it boasts self-styled "outsider club music", this time from Casablanca-born DJ Booth and label co-founder Walrus. DJ Booth handles side A, first romping his way through a bleeping, intoxicating, peak-time techno club jam ("Defaulted (Industry)"), before reaching for the breakbeats, deep electronics and electro shuffle on the superb "The Door". On side B Walrus takes over. "Can't Get New Shoes" is a bubbly, acid-fired chunk of electro/techno crunchiness, while "Free City Light" is notably deeper jazzier and way more melodic.

Mind Of The Master II: Clone EP
  1. Mind Of The Master (4:49)
  2. Clones (4:24)
  3. Mind Of The Master II (4:44)
  4. 7 Inteference (2:19)
Review: DJ Di'jital is Detroit legend Lamont Norwood, who originally joined local legends Aux 88 as their DJ in the early '90s before releasing his own jams for their esteemed Direct Beat imprint, DJ Godfather's Twilight 76 and his own Di'jital Axcess. Rawax Motor City Edition re-issue his 2013 release The Mind Of The Master II - Clone EP, originally made available in digital format but now seeing the day on vinyl. For anyone with a new found interest in the electro sound; this guy's the real deal and you need to check this out! Starting out with the breakneck aquatic electro-funk of the title tracks on the A side, the B side offerings are "Mind Of The Master II" (sounds reminiscent of early Cybotron and with clever sampling of the film Hellraiser) while "7 Interference" is for the most part a raw drum machine workout and great DJ tool.
