DeFeKT - "Radar" (4:03)
Zobol - "Data Wars" (5:01)
Review: Exit Planet Earth continues its exploration of the world of electro universe with an expansive, extended six track EP, featuring The Advent x Zein Ferreira, DeFeKT, London Modular Alliance, Konertymi and Zobol. The Advent, whose weekly Gardening Club residency in the mid-90s helped to drag electro out of the realms of the retro and back into the future, team up with Zein Ferreira for a Kraftwerk-on-speed extended mix of 'CarpeDiem', before London Modular Alliance's more moderately paced but still squiggle and bleep laced 'Lump of Coal' plus a 'beats' breakdown for the DJs. The B-side brings us the acid-powered 'Pulssi' by Konerytmi, the bouncy, breakdance-friendly 'Radar' by DeFeKT, and the relatively pure, optimistic sonics of Zobol's 'Data Wars'. Thumbs up all round.

Review: Organ-filled ambient house courtesy of a four-way collab between AP, DJ Tjizza, Eversines and Michelle, who all form parts of the UK dance music collective Picnic. Refractive acid, dreamatic plastics, stoic echoics... every possible corner of trance-inducing dance heaven is scoured on this all-encompassing EP, the highlights of which, in our humble opinions, are 'Nyxation' and 'Panther'.

Die Synthetische Republik - "Der Bose Osten" (extended mix) (5:28)
Review: The Outer Edge discs into the P.A.P. archives to unearth a previously unreleased electro, wave and proto-techno tune from Art P. The track was recorded in 1982 as a demo cassette for radio and has political lyrics pertaining to Genscher, a long-time Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs and Vice Chancellor of Germany. It never got released or else it might have been considered one of the earliest techno tunes with its punchy 808 rhythms and bending synth bass. Classic minimal synthwave tune 'Der bose Osten' by the associated band project Die Synthetische Republik also appears on the other side of this limited split 12" as an extended mix

Review: Nug-Net.com is an ingenious idea for a website - simply sell nuggets online. Nuggets of what, though? Gold? Weed? Music production expertise? Raw banger ore? We'd wager it's the latter; the story goes that in 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic, the website's mastermind Gene On Earth created his production masterclass 'Nuggets: The Blueprint'. Signing up a select crew of students to submit their music shortly after finishing the course, the class of 2022 is said to have overcome expectations and birthed this digital compilation - the first of five vinyl releases to come out over the course of 2023. Slinky and cheeky house numbers move across acid and breakbeat; perfect sonic accompaniments for surfing the weirder corners of the internet. Even you could be in for a chance: to take the course, visit www.nug-net.com.

DJ Void - "Transaction" (6:40)
Review: The recently formed Alienist Rec has done a fine job of setting out its sonic stall so far and now the label looks to a pair of artists to take care of one side each of their third 12". Starting things off is promising young Moroccan producer Chaou B with the twitchy disco-techno of 'Instinct' and its flashes of synth light. 'Untitled Groove' is another intergalactic stomper wired up with pixelated leads. It is then season Vienna mainstay DJ Void who takes over with the pulsing and 90s style prog techno of 'Frankfurt Jaam' and bleeping future house funk of 'Transaction'.

Review: After a superb repress of the Volvo Una Hit Italo classic, Bottin's Cristalli Liquidi project is back and this time in cahoots with French-Italiano electro pair Deux Control which is Justine Forever and Rodion. They have cooked up a selection of versions of 'Rosso Carnale' which, we understand, lyrically touches on the colour red and the gentle carnal forces of nature sung in Italian. There is a sped-up version from Bottin, a sparse mix from Deux Control and standout Mutant version with tougher drums but nice silky dub chords and a bright Italo version full of 80s synth nostalgia.

Walker Two (3:33)
MAC101 (3:30)
Karsten Pflum - "Hornfish Acid" (5:47)
Aroe Acid (5:50)
Review: The present face of IDM is here heard occupied by dream duo D'Arcangelo and Karsten Plum, whose latest joint effort for Acid Avengers bowls us over with its acid tweezings, pangs, twingings, twangs, thrums and flits-past. The pH scale skyrockets to the point of insanity on Pflum's side, with 'Hornfish Acid' and 'Aroe Acid' jointly corroding the full length of the Earth's core with their snippy but incisive sizzles and 'ows, until we reach a forbidden underworld uncannily reminiscent of Oz - except the faces of the protagonists are horribly twisted into a yellow, illegal-raved rictuses. D'Arcangelo's 'Gawain' does equally as much with its eerie sprung-verbed chroma-chords and muted but moving melodies; so too does 'Walker Two' raise the tempo to silly speeds, coming as a veritable velociraptor of Druqks-y breaks and drill bits, all let loose from the barrel at a surely illegal rate of fire.

Review: 2021 was a big year for D3070, the shadowy electro operative who debuted with a splash on Cyberdome, Lobster Theremin and Dance Trax. Now they return on Dutch label LDI (short for Lloyd's Dark Imperium, fact fans), following the likes of Martin Matiske and Cliff Dalton with more of that sinewy, dark-side machine funk gear. From 'Data Transmission's reduced, blippy maze building to the steely punch of 'Phantom Operation' and onwards, D3070 weaves a seductive, dystopian web of robotic rhythms which are essential listening for anyone who takes electro seriously. Don't sleep on the remix from The Exaltics either - a treat tucked away on the B2 for the dedicated diggers.

Monitor Body Process 101 (5:43)
Flying Dolphins (5:47)
Another Day (feat Roger Versey) (5:14)
Review: Operative since the early 1990s, Dan Piu is one of Switzerland's most storied deep house and futurist techno producers. His regular EPs are rarely less than excellent, and even those that slip under the radar tend to be solid if not spectacular. The good news is that Piu is in prize form on this Spacebased Recordings released five-tracker. Check first sumptuous, Needs (Not Wants)-influenced deep house number 'Times' - a masterclass in mood and melody - before admiring the bleeping, intergalactic excellence of spacey deep house gem 'Dorsey'. He opts for a more energetic, warehouse-ready early 90s house/techno sound on 'Monitor Body Process 101', doffs a cap to stargazing Motor City techno on 'Flying Dolphins', and showcases a spoken word vocal from Roger Versey on the atmospheric, turn-of-the-90s Nu Groove style brilliance of 'Another Day'.

Hoy Tengo Ganas (5:28)
Galactic Echo (6:13)
La Cuarta Dimension (6:01)
You Clear Me The Space To Fall (5:21)
Review: It's time for a showcase of the finest electro transmitting out of Spain, as Sismo invites Dark Vektor and Gravedad Cinetica to pool their talents on a 12" trip to the dark side of the force. At a time when the electro coming out of their country is at an all time high in both quality and quantity, on this 12" the duo prove themselves to be right at the crest of the wave. 'Hoy Tengo Ganas' is a pitch-perfect slice of synth noir which calls to mind Miss Kittin & The Hacker, while 'Galactic Echo' nods to Drexciya and Jonzun Crew in equal measure. There's some more experimental angles to 'La Cuarta Dimension' and 'You Clear Me The Space To Fall' comes on heavy with the influence of the Motor City pioneers from Stinson & Donald to Aux 88.

Les Hommes Boivent (4:21)
The Rainbow Sponge (3:50)
Review: The duo of Anna Ersatz and Ole Cassette make up Das A&O. A Leipzig-based powerhouse in the form of two humans generating all manner of weird and wacky cacophonies, the pair's latest efforts have seen them come to their neighbouring Rat Life Records, based in the same city. Inspired by early human origin myths - "les hommes boivent" translates to "humans have to drink", nodding to a rather well-known myth of the first ever human couple, whose names begin with A and E respectively - this 7" deals in dark synthwave and staccato, rifting acid, with both the title track and 'The Rainbow Sponge' keeping as bangerific are they are wacky.

Atmosfear
Review: The Italian duo Data Memory Access has already made some waves with the first handful of their releases and The Dataverse EP is filled with excellent futuristic dance music that gives a nod to 90s sounds. The pulsating electro techno of 'DR Ease' is primed for dancefloor destruction. The melody addition combines with the acid line together is pure aural ecstasy. The upbeat straight forward sounds of 'Running Around' is very refreshing, bringing back some fun back to techno. 'Slam Jam' furthers with a Kraftwerk-type sound that will work with the older and younger fans of electronic music. Lastly, 'Atmosphere' just might be the dark horse of the EP with this slammin' otherworldly cut. Data Memory Access is bringing the fun back to techno with these energetic dancefloor bombs.

Review: Gothenburg Electro City 3 is a third episode in this superb new various artists series. Stilleben label head Luke Eargoggle says that three generations of Scandinavian electro sounds feature on the six track record. It comes from producers based only in Gothenburg which is the capital of electro in Sweden as well as being the capital of the Vastra Gotaland county. From the high energy and hard-hitting electro-funk of Dataintrang's opener to Guttan's more cinematic but no less caustic 'Bambakaos', all shades are explored here with compelling results.

Audio Warrior (3:35)
Review: White Fetish X, the latest release by enigmatic collaboration between Dataintrang and Luke Eargoggle on the Italian label Pareidolia Recordings, is a hypnotic and eerie exploration of the dark side of electronica. The album's six tracks veritably pulsate with a sinister energy, blending elements of EBM, electro clash, and sci-fi to create a truly unique and unsettling soundscape. 'Starting Shift' sets the tone with its menacing EBM stomp and early techno sound, while 'Mann Gegen Mann' ups the ante with its sinister electroclash beats. The title track is a hypnotic and eerie soundscape, with its sci-fi synths and demented, horror-like atmosphere. 'Radiowelt' is a heavy electro track with a pulsing body funk rhythm, while 'Audio Warrior' closes the album out with its dark and evil-sounding but funky bassline. Overall, White Fetish X is a challenging and rewarding listen for fans of dark electronica. Its sinister soundscapes and hypnotic rhythms create a truly unique and unsettling experience that will stay with you long after the final track has faded out.

Breath Controller (Dopplereffekt Remodel) (4:53)
Review: For the legendary label Tresor to put out a breakbeat record is something very rare. The ardent techno label for over 30 years is clearly telling us without saying, how good this music is. Tresor is always in touch with rave music though and it's not fully surprising that Tresor would support any music that is so reminiscent of the old skool days like Digital Entropy is. Datashader rises from the depths to give us their wicked debut. The EP is an audio onslaught that combines blistering breakbeat gems like 'Velocity 04.22' with eerie sci-fi pieces like 'Sync Out Off'. The AFX like 'Fong' and 'Sub Osc" are early favorites from those who have heard samples of this haunting record. It is rare to see the power of rave, breakbeat and IDM presented this well on one record.

Review: Fresh from recent releases for Acid Boom, Klasse Wrecks and Craigie Knowes, Dawl continues his exploration of ear-snagging electro on this latest missive for Planet 17. 'Escapade' is a bleep-heavy workout with plenty of jack and an acidic quality despite the apparent lack of 303, while 'Cyclops' favours a trippier sound-set with plenty of disorienting effects flair. 'Future World' completes the picture with head-twisting synth lines pitched at the later end of the night and some deliciously boxy beats that capture the mystical energy of those early bleep records in fine style.

Antwerp Is Acied
Review: The Belgian label Higher Hopes is run by DC Salas who now returns to it with a new EP with the collaborative Los NiNos Del Parque project alongside Anthony Barbarich aka Mirror Minds. They say it is a release that has been 15 years in the making and has roots in their shared love of 2000s electroclash, plus new wave and new beat. They set out to make something inspired by that and have done so over the last four years with a mix of rugged and mechanical rhythms and angular synth lines. A fine remix by the assured Badaboum and Rinse France resident Belaria rounds out the package.

Review: Dark Entries label regulars De-Bons-en-Pierre are back with more of their scuzzy delights in the form of their Card Short of a Full Deck EP. It's drenched in textbook sludginess as is often the way with Beau Wanzer and Maoupa Mazzochetti ever since they came together in 2016. These tunes were all originally written back in 2019 for live performances and really find the pair pushing at the boundaries of accepted social norms. The absurd sounds pair skipping rhythms with dark and freaky basslines and plenty of eerie rave chords to make for an all-new kind of dance floor energy.

Review: Venetian self-described "avant garde conservative" Simone De Kunovich is back to quickly follow up his last outing in March with a new electro EP on Public Possession. He also ended last year on a high with the final part of his Mondo Nuovo series and seems to be in full creative flow again here. 'Flow My Tears' is an old school throwback with sugary 80s synths sounds and lush cosmic arps, then 'Super Mana Drain' local into a chugging Italo disco vibe that will get hands in the air as it travels to the stars. 'Warp World' is a more heavy thumper but still one defined by its bright and colourful synth work.

Review: Ratiug Recordings has had a great year and this is its third fine outing so far. For this one, the Uruguayan label represses a rare and hard-to-find gem that takes us back to the naughties and the heyday of the breaks era. Spanish artist Deibeat is behind the beats first up with the turbocharged electro-funk of 'Scanned State'. Mmmh's 'Be My Way' is then a hurried and hopping electro-tinged cut with quick beats and cosmic energies and Elias Sternin's 'Gato De Piria' brings dark synth drones which search across gritty drum machine rhythms. Artesano Titer closes down with another colourful and jittery future rhythm on 'Leitmotiv.'

Review: After ten years of silence, 'Regimen Galactico Totalitario' materialises as the new release of the Mexican producer Dellarge, renowned for his experimental noise project I.N.R.I. (Industria Nacional del Ruido Infinito). On this latest mini-album, Dellarge propels his vision of today's evolution of EBM toward a futuristic blend of breakbeat, industrial, and electro, synthesising the an apt soundtrack for a future apocalypse, were it somehow quantized and filtered through a killer sequencer ahead of time. All instrumental, and with every track firing off its acid sixteenths as if each semiquaver were escaping a micro-fusion-powered mech-blaster, every track until 'Hades' is breakneck; that is until the EP commits to a tempo drop, as if to evoke the fact that most of the carnage has been meted out, and that all that's left is for the mechsuits to do now is dance an evil victory dance. Limited to just 300 copies, this is an end of the world you won't want to miss (how could you?).

Review: Massive UK hardcore and breaks from the fittingly named Destroyers; a freshly-established leading light on the international breakbeat scene, 'Death Race' more than cements this artist's status as such. On this dystopic 12", we hear impressive breaks-and-reese gluings, hard-compressed rave-line-tracers, and tempo fluctuations that make us want to redline mixers as much as we want to hunker down and watch the fastest film of all time, Redline (which is ironically about a 'Death Race', so to speak). Two collaborations, with Yo Speed and Bowser, respectively, refuse just as steadfastly to let up on this velocity and pace, transcending expectations insofar as they combine tropes from neurofunk and Matrix-soundtrack-era noirs, all while keeping things collaborative. A stonker of a debut vinyl 12" from a sure-to-do-amazingly-well artist.

Nuttin But Chedda (4:21)
Review: 'Proceed With Caution' is the latest four-track EP of classic Detroit techno from the city's Filthiest (one more recent alias of longtime genre purveyor Julian Shamou), coming packed as ever with a cleanly modern twist, and incorporating elements of breakbeat and g-funk swagger along the way. Easing up on the layering, and thus to provide extra room for snappiness and sonic aloofness, 'Up In Smoke' clears the air, displacing oxygen with pyrolitic combustions, sputters and snare-drummed bangs. Equally is the bass-heavier 'Check Out The Technique', evoking not just the awe of technique, but the horrors of technicity, in its doomy imitations of authoritarian war brasses by way of a synthetic analog bass riff.

All White Buffs
Review: Detroit's filthiest is back, and this time they're presenting 'Oddly Satisfying', their new EP housed on Italian label, FU ME. Featuring a collection of ghettotech, electro, and techno tracks never before released on vinyl. Standout track 'Round & Round' is an instant ghettotech classic, featuring looped vocals that traverse a winding, siren-like synthline and zero-gravity electro drums. 'All White Buffs' reaches into a more classic techno sphere, with a circling Jeff Mills-esque melody, this is a track geared towards hypnotic dancefloor moments, This release showcases why Detroit's Filthiest is rightly considered king of the underground - definitely not one to miss.

Review: Detroit's hip-hop turntablist, deep house maestro and Moodymann collaborator Dev Andres has been busy laying down more of his infectious joints, this time on US label Deep Fried Music. He steps out of his usual sonic signature here to explore electrofunk and the good news it is as good an EP as he has dropped in some time. Titular cut 'Wild & Crazy Love' kicks off with an electro tinged broken beat groove and lush r&b vocals over dazzling 80s chords while 'Reign Forest' is a quick and snappy electro bumper with his trademark noodling chords. 'Say Say Say (U Get The Best Of Me)' slows it down to an almost UK street soul vibe and 'Cybtron' brings the squelchy cyborg funk. Superb stuff.

F Phono - "We All Love Electro Dance" (5:04)
Review: The second release on RPX16035 takes us back into the beating heart of full-fat electro with a cast of emergent talents bitten by the machine funk bug. Digregorius is up first with 'Aurora Maia', a schlocky slice of twisted synth lines that draws parallels with labels like EYA and Partisan. Gianluca Pellerano has a definite video game soundtrack influence lingering over his track like he's battling an end of level boss. Marco Biagioli has a thumping 4/4 focus at work on equally spooked out 'Gate 5' while F Phono finishes the record off with the Italo-tinted 'We All Love Electro Dance' - a track title we can all get behind.

Review: Dj Di'jital is one of the myriad lesser-known but supremely talented producers from Detroit that don't get the headliners of the more celebrated few. And that's astonishing when you learn that the man born Lamont Norwood has been making beats since the mid-90s after first falling for electronic sounds after hearing Kraftwerk. His electro here is utterly on point, with body popping rhythms and crisp analogue drums, celestial synth lines and plenty of punch bottom end. Yet another fine EP that deserves all the attention it will get.

Review: We don't know who is involved in this brand new Diner's Club International project but we do know that they have put together three superb new records, all of which are landing at the same time. We also know they have come from Detroit, specifically Joy Rd on the West Side, and so come drenched in plenty of the swaggering attitudes you would expect. Diners Club International Part 1 fuses electro, ghetto and techno into booty-shaking cuts designed square for the club. The rhythms are infectious, the drums booming and the vocals bawdy, so snap these up before they're gone as quickly as they arrived.

Review: The Gamine label looks back to the future for this fifth EP as they dig into the vaults of Italian master Marco Dionigi. These tunes were first released on his Quantastic Division label back in the early 2000s but the 20-odd years since have seen them age to perfection. The studio wizard manages to take elements of synth-wave and electro and run with them over punchy rhythms and lush pads. There is a certain profundity to the atmospheres of these tunes that means they make a lasting impression from the lithe funk of 'A Day In Los Angeles' to the deeper vibes of 'The Lord' and cosmic stylings of 'Journey On The Moon.'

Review: Motech is one of those label that has been an ever present in the underground for years and it likely always will be that way, such is the consistency of the output. Label head DJ 3000 steps up for this latest release which takes the label ever closer to 200 outings over all, and as always he mines a perfect sweetspot between techno, breakbeat and house. 'Meze' has tense drum tech underneath mystic and exotic leads from the Middle East, while 'Humble Quest' keeps things nimble with deft synth smears over thud drum funk. The synth-infused and Detroit style techno of 'Tanbur' makes for a serene listen while 'Snake Eyes' brings a little freaky synth energy to close out.

Review: Mall Grab's Steel City Dance Discs bangs out a 29th volume of its self-titled series here and DJ Boneyard is the one who has been digging in his vaults to serve up six deathly techno slammers. 'Bonestyle' is all about the distorted low ends and sleazy broken beast which power it along under edgy synths. 'Flutter' is a crispy electro scuzz-fest with more ear-ticking low end fizz and brighter trance chords up top. 'Slap Slap Slap' is a percussive flurry, a tumble of drums and gritty warehouse noise while three more brilliantly tough and fucked up takes on techno feature on the flip side.
