Review: Exit Planet Earth continues its exploration of the world of electro universe with an expansive, extended six track EP, featuring The Advent x Zein Ferreira, DeFeKT, London Modular Alliance, Konertymi and Zobol. The Advent, whose weekly Gardening Club residency in the mid-90s helped to drag electro out of the realms of the retro and back into the future, team up with Zein Ferreira for a Kraftwerk-on-speed extended mix of 'CarpeDiem', before London Modular Alliance's more moderately paced but still squiggle and bleep laced 'Lump of Coal' plus a 'beats' breakdown for the DJs. The B-side brings us the acid-powered 'Pulssi' by Konerytmi, the bouncy, breakdance-friendly 'Radar' by DeFeKT, and the relatively pure, optimistic sonics of Zobol's 'Data Wars'. Thumbs up all round.

Review: The recently formed Alienist Rec has done a fine job of setting out its sonic stall so far and now the label looks to a pair of artists to take care of one side each of their third 12". Starting things off is promising young Moroccan producer Chaou B with the twitchy disco-techno of 'Instinct' and its flashes of synth light. 'Untitled Groove' is another intergalactic stomper wired up with pixelated leads. It is then season Vienna mainstay DJ Void who takes over with the pulsing and 90s style prog techno of 'Frankfurt Jaam' and bleeping future house funk of 'Transaction'.

Review: The Spanish Hypnotic Collective label attempts to capture its take on the Detroit Legacy with what looks like a new series of various artists' EP. There is plenty of Motor City soul in the gorgeous synths of Cignol's muted acid and deep house opener 'Distance' which is a soothing and reverential groove, but then its pure party from Barce, Alex Martin offers up 313 style tech and three further tunes on the flip explore blistering electro with high-speed funk and cosmic intent. Mission accomplished and we're already looking forward to the next one.

Review: After a superb repress of the Volvo Una Hit Italo classic, Bottin's Cristalli Liquidi project is back and this time in cahoots with French-Italiano electro pair Deux Control which is Justine Forever and Rodion. They have cooked up a selection of versions of 'Rosso Carnale' which, we understand, lyrically touches on the colour red and the gentle carnal forces of nature sung in Italian. There is a sped-up version from Bottin, a sparse mix from Deux Control and standout Mutant version with tougher drums but nice silky dub chords and a bright Italo version full of 80s synth nostalgia.

Review: The present face of IDM is here heard occupied by dream duo D'Arcangelo and Karsten Plum, whose latest joint effort for Acid Avengers bowls us over with its acid tweezings, pangs, twingings, twangs, thrums and flits-past. The pH scale skyrockets to the point of insanity on Pflum's side, with 'Hornfish Acid' and 'Aroe Acid' jointly corroding the full length of the Earth's core with their snippy but incisive sizzles and 'ows, until we reach a forbidden underworld uncannily reminiscent of Oz - except the faces of the protagonists are horribly twisted into a yellow, illegal-raved rictuses. D'Arcangelo's 'Gawain' does equally as much with its eerie sprung-verbed chroma-chords and muted but moving melodies; so too does 'Walker Two' raise the tempo to silly speeds, coming as a veritable velociraptor of Druqks-y breaks and drill bits, all let loose from the barrel at a surely illegal rate of fire.

Review: Operative since the early 1990s, Dan Piu is one of Switzerland's most storied deep house and futurist techno producers. His regular EPs are rarely less than excellent, and even those that slip under the radar tend to be solid if not spectacular. The good news is that Piu is in prize form on this Spacebased Recordings released five-tracker. Check first sumptuous, Needs (Not Wants)-influenced deep house number 'Times' - a masterclass in mood and melody - before admiring the bleeping, intergalactic excellence of spacey deep house gem 'Dorsey'. He opts for a more energetic, warehouse-ready early 90s house/techno sound on 'Monitor Body Process 101', doffs a cap to stargazing Motor City techno on 'Flying Dolphins', and showcases a spoken word vocal from Roger Versey on the atmospheric, turn-of-the-90s Nu Groove style brilliance of 'Another Day'.

Review: Dark Entries label regulars De-Bons-en-Pierre are back with more of their scuzzy delights in the form of their Card Short of a Full Deck EP. It's drenched in textbook sludginess as is often the way with Beau Wanzer and Maoupa Mazzochetti ever since they came together in 2016. These tunes were all originally written back in 2019 for live performances and really find the pair pushing at the boundaries of accepted social norms. The absurd sounds pair skipping rhythms with dark and freaky basslines and plenty of eerie rave chords to make for an all-new kind of dance floor energy.

Review: Venetian self-described "avant garde conservative" Simone De Kunovich is back to quickly follow up his last outing in March with a new electro EP on Public Possession. He also ended last year on a high with the final part of his Mondo Nuovo series and seems to be in full creative flow again here. 'Flow My Tears' is an old school throwback with sugary 80s synths sounds and lush cosmic arps, then 'Super Mana Drain' local into a chugging Italo disco vibe that will get hands in the air as it travels to the stars. 'Warp World' is a more heavy thumper but still one defined by its bright and colourful synth work.

Review: 'Proceed With Caution' is the latest four-track EP of classic Detroit techno from the city's Filthiest (one more recent alias of longtime genre purveyor Julian Shamou), coming packed as ever with a cleanly modern twist, and incorporating elements of breakbeat and g-funk swagger along the way. Easing up on the layering, and thus to provide extra room for snappiness and sonic aloofness, 'Up In Smoke' clears the air, displacing oxygen with pyrolitic combustions, sputters and snare-drummed bangs. Equally is the bass-heavier 'Check Out The Technique', evoking not just the awe of technique, but the horrors of technicity, in its doomy imitations of authoritarian war brasses by way of a synthetic analog bass riff.

It finds the sonic sculptor kick off with a warped bassline underpinning an eerie and slow motion electro cut on 'The Pilgrimage.' 'Tangential' is another snaking rhythm with mysterious pads and bouncing bass that makes for a truly original vibe. 'Message Failed To Send' has a hint of Kraftwerk retro-ism to its snappy snares and talk box vocals then 'When It Was Free' classes down with a gritty mix of celestial charm and deep space unknown. These are next level sonics as always from Dillinger.

Review: Motech is one of those label that has been an ever present in the underground for years and it likely always will be that way, such is the consistency of the output. Label head DJ 3000 steps up for this latest release which takes the label ever closer to 200 outings over all, and as always he mines a perfect sweetspot between techno, breakbeat and house. 'Meze' has tense drum tech underneath mystic and exotic leads from the Middle East, while 'Humble Quest' keeps things nimble with deft synth smears over thud drum funk. The synth-infused and Detroit style techno of 'Tanbur' makes for a serene listen while 'Snake Eyes' brings a little freaky synth energy to close out.

Review: Mall Grab's Steel City Dance Discs bangs out a 29th volume of its self-titled series here and DJ Boneyard is the one who has been digging in his vaults to serve up six deathly techno slammers. 'Bonestyle' is all about the distorted low ends and sleazy broken beast which power it along under edgy synths. 'Flutter' is a crispy electro scuzz-fest with more ear-ticking low end fizz and brighter trance chords up top. 'Slap Slap Slap' is a percussive flurry, a tumble of drums and gritty warehouse noise while three more brilliantly tough and fucked up takes on techno feature on the flip side.

Review: A deliberate exercise in Y2K aesthetics and cyberpunk electrance comes in the creative output of DJ Natural Nate - his latest EP for Hoodwink Recordings, 'Notes To Jiggabot' - which consists of four tracks eulogizing his cybernetic partner-in-crime, Jiggabot (several releases from this pair have come out since mid 2018) and seemingly the object of his fantasmic affections. Whether the likes of new numbers 'Chasing The Rhythm', 'I Will Shine For You' or 'Far Away' originate from some angelic conceptual otherworld or this banal material one, it's hard not to love the signifiers poured into the EP: US freestyle jaunts, pure femme vocals doused in reverb-reverbs and melismatic hums; hyper-compressed, lightsabre-sculpted beats and visual cues reminiscent of childhoods spent lost in postmodern futuristic fantasies, such as those of Deus Ex or Blade Runner.

Review: The legendary DMX Krew is as accomplished as they come when talking about electro innovators. Each time he steps out he proves that and this new one proves it, quite knowingly so given the title. The title track 'Still Got It' is a stomping electro sizzler with lashing of disco goodness and a catchy vocal hook. The dub fleshes out the low end while 'Paranoia' picks up the pace on the flip. It's a high speed cut with dazzling melodic sequences riding up and down the scale. Cold then shuts down with boogie energy and more lush Casino keys.

Review: You can't get more reliable than Ed DMX frankly. The veteran artist can do all electro styles imaginable and all with equal elan. This month, for example, is dropping a disco and boogie fried 12" as well as this more classically inclined electro outing on the fine Shipwrec label out of the Netherlands. 'Parasite' has a perfectly elastic and rubbery baseline under celestial melodies, 'Tree In Space' is a twitchy rhythm and 'Unbelief' then settles into a deeper groove with smeared synth chords. 'Meltdown' ends with a darker and more atmospheric sound for the late night hours.

Review: The next electro exploration from the infamous DMX Krew comes in the form of 'Blue Bob', which scours the genre's less bangerific backwaters. The four tracks on this new EP her for Further Electronix centre on everything from the weezy, to the gaseous, to the strange. 'Ambient Freak' does what it says on the tin, working as one of Krew's most minimal cuts to date; its noir synth strings and piquey melodic motifs sound like the soundtrack to a space-age murder mystery, as we try to decipher who killed Zog with what; a laser-blaster? a lightsaber? a photon torpedo? Review: Since making his bow as Donald Dust six years ago, Tom Banks has codified a signature sound rich in jacking, Ron Hardy style drum tracks, surging Italo-disco melodies, late '80s European house sounds and 21st century nu-Italo tropes. All these ingredients - and more - can be heard on his latest EP for Bordello a Parigi. Opener 'Nausea', for example, audibly doffs a cap to Koto and Bobby Orlando, while the more percussive, sweat-soaked 'Sick Your Own' remix of the same track provides an energetic, peak-time ready alternative. There are two mixes, too, of 'Jupiter Jack': the new beat-meets-Italo-disco throb of the 'Groovy Mix' and the breathless mid-80s Chicago house flex of the 'Jupiter Mix'. Review: It's no wonder Dopplereffekt named their latest EP 'Inifinite Tetraspace'. For starters, a tetrahedron is a 3D triangular pyramid of equal lengths per side. A sine wave, meanwhile, is in auditory form considered the purest, most basic sound - it is also the graph produced by plotting all the ratio points between two sides of a triangle. The logical conclusion is this: infinite tetraspace might be considered the ultimate form of repetitive sound, carrying on forever, triangulating constantly in all directions, never ceasing. For all its vivid imaginings, Dopplereffekt's dualistic, stereo-effected sound carries on in full force on their latest EP for Curtis Electronix, tetra-scribing four icy, unsettling entities that may only be encountered in this special extra-conscious zone.

Review: Detroit electro legends Dopplereffekt return to Leisure System for their fourth release on the Berlin based imprint. Athanatos is named after the angel of the planet Mercury in ancient Greek mythology, but that isn't so much the theme. Here the duo again explore subjects related to genetic conditions and chromosomal influences that define mortality across the EP's five tracks. After the brooding sonic landscapes of the title track , it's classic Mitchell & Nhan all the way on the majestic electronic funk of "Hayflick Limit" while devilishly enchanting slow burners like "Telomere" or "Mitosisin" lock you in with their hypnotic grasp. Raster-Noton founders Carsten Nicolai (who did the artwork) and Olaf Bender are said to have collaborated with the pair on this release.

Review: Now this is the kind of house we live for. Mired in the rawness of post-punk and making use of never-heard-before drums and basses, DOTT hails from the underrepresented dance scene extant in Bangkok, Thailand. Her unusual palette reflects a slapdash vibe that could only come from an individual mind. The tracks on 'Deep Soi', were they to act as sonic guides for deep-sea adventures, cover every depth from abyssal trenches to sprawling coral reefs. 'Stalking Merlin' is our highlight: nothing more is needed in this minimal, grainy, chromatic stew.

Review: Milan-based label The Villains Inc. is back this week with a new EP by Dr Boomer, a collaboration between label owner G. Aquilini (Gab.Gato) and Jack Bags aka La Sabbia. Time To Go Back begins with the cybernetic body beats of 'Man Of The Future' reminiscent of early Model 500, followed the heads-down, four-to-the-floor stomp of 'No Permission'. Over on the flip, the brooding dystopian electro themes continue on 'Darkness' and the computer funk of 'The Bad Place'.

Review: Dubtil has only very recently launched his own superb new label Infrequent. He did so with a top new EP but has clearly been hard at work in the studio because this outing on Ruere is another doozy. It comes on nice spattered vinyl and has four untitled tunes. The first is a warm one with pads swirling round to bring colour to the tech beats, then the second has a more urgent mission through the cosmos with its wispy pads and tight, twanging bass and prickly drums. On the flip is the more stripped back and minimal roller of track three and then the compelling rubbery rhythms and futuristic pad work of the final cut.

Review: The latest Pyramid Transmissions takes us once more into the underbelly of the electro beast with four stealth operators twisting out particularly tweaked strains of machine funk. Info_Cifon makes a welcome return with the mind-twisting detail and nervy atmosphere of 'How The Game Serves Us', while Fleck OSC doubles down on the freakiest threads of interlocking synth work and snappy rhythms. Review: More hot-to-trot heaviness on Unknown To The Unknown's Dance Trax offshoot, as electro/techno heavyweight Jensen Interceptor joins forces with Berlin's foul-mouthed DJ Fuck Off for a trip into high-octane electro-tek/ghetto booty territory. The main attraction is arguably opener 'Ride', a breathless slammer full of nasty synth sounds, teak-tough beats and cut-up vocal samples that's subsequently given an even more up-tempo club electro re-fix courtesy of Bogata-based producer Dagga. Elsewhere, 'Drop Your Pants' is another seriously sleazy and pumping slab of X-rated dancefloor insanity, while 'Boy You Nasty' is a muscular, driving slab of steroid-enhanced ghetto-tek sweatiness.
