David Carretta & CYRK - "Spektrum" (5:27)
Review: CYRK are a Berlin-based duo made up of Sammy Goossens and Pascal Hetzel, and they've burst onto the scene over the past five years with a rich and fulsome approach to electro and techno. Beyond appearances on Rawax, Vakant and the like they've been returning to Burial Soil, and this time around they brought their friends along. This collection spans collaborations with the likes of Steffi, Jensen Interceptor, Anthony Rother and Nite Fleit, all feeding into the dark and deliciously devilish sound CYRK whip up in their pursuit of electro exaltation.

DJ Emma - "The Duster" (Fuck Off & dance mix) (7:26)
Review: Continuing the Above Board label's flawless run of historical compilation projects, San Francisco legend DJ Spun has been invited back to paint another picture of a unique chapter in the Bay Area's rave history, from 1988 to 1994. Compared to the more storied East Coast and Midwest dance music movements, the unique brew of cultural backdrops and influences in SF and the surrounding area led to a particular strain of breakbeat rich in psychedelia, responding to the very different Californian climate. Across two slabs, this second volume takes us further into a lesser told story of rave's early days, featuring cult legends long overdue recognition for their distinctive approaches to electronic dance music.

Review: Curated as part of the iconic street artist's Tate exhibition this year, The World Of Keith Haring unites many of the talented souls Keith knew, or was inspired by, during his prolific rise as one of the most vital cultural spokesmen through the 70s and 80s. Soundtracking the gritty downtown NYC streets he made his first mark on, this limited collection captures the whole melting pot from b-boy culture with cuts such as "E.T Boogie" and "Bump N Grind", raw boogie and soul ("Over & Over") and pure drama ("The Guardian Angel Is Watching Over Us"). A powerful collection as striking and relatable as his own signature.

Helena Hauff - "Turn Your Sights Inward" (6:40)
Review: In the post-minimal years, and after the deep house revival, dark techno and electro became the most fertile ground for new producers. Hamburg-born Helena Hauff was one of those who brought through such sounds and she has since become a global tastemaker who has perfected the art of dark and hard-hitting soundscapes. She shows that off once more here with her selections for the mighty Fabric presents series. It is raw, fierce and rough yet seamlessly moves through breakbeat, electro and the still magical charms of Autechre's remix of D-Breeze's 'Crazy For Love' from 1999 which closes the mix in style.

Dollska - "So Long For A Small Storm" (Rudolf Klorzeiger Remodel) (4:25)
Review: Beyond his prolific body of original work under myriad guises, Gerald Donald has gifted the electro world many a superlative remix. At all times, his pioneering strain of machine funk from the days of Drexciya remains at the forefront of the sound, and so as Belgian label WeMe gather together this compilation of key reworks from the Donaldsphere, it's just as relevant to consider this a compilation of Drexciyan magic you might not have stumbled across before. Whether as Heinrich Mueller, Dopplereffekt or Rudolf Klorzeiger, Donald brings his unique cybernetic qualities to tracks from Ultradyne, Cisco Ferreira and Duplex amongst many others. A particular highlight is the emotive future-synth-pop of his remix of Rough Days For Diamond Trade, while the slow creep of his version of White Car's 'Now We Continue' is equally show-stopping.

Review: Nemo Vachez's debut album Forest III is a great statement of his studio mastery across 12 tracks that span space house, dark funk and minimal. His approach to rhythm is spare and he often constructs his grooves from fragments, loops and stripped-back kicks. Plenty of evocative details from police sirens to glowing bell hits add colour and charm and there is a futuristic sense to every tack here - the melodies are serene and clean, bright and hi-fi. It all adds up to a compelling journey from the Frenchman.

ZOTS - "314" (4:39)
Electrodefender - "Electric Sunset" (4:33)
Review: Byakku: Tai Braindance is a welcome collaboration between two retro-futurist imprints, '90s IDM revivalists Childhood Intelligence (an organization run from Berlin and Tokyo) and London-based bleep, acid, rave and hardcore specialists Tone Dropout. Featuring tracks from artists associated with both labels, it's a giddy and largely celebratory fusion of both labels' styles with an added dollop of interplanetary sci-fi futurism. There's much to enjoy throughout, from the shimmering deep space electro of E-Control's 'The Mind of Robots' and the deep, immersive, bittersweet electronica of Soft Pioneer's 'Dystopia', to the locked-in late-night hypnotism of Alphonse and Sween's hazy 'Downfall (Dub Version)', the bubbly bleep-and-breaks-goes-IDM pop of 'Existence' by Skyware Transmission vs XOTR, and the rave-igniting electro-bleep business that is Dawl's 'Time Phase'.

Review: Netherlands-based 030303 Records is back with a fifth installment in its various artists series. As with the previous four editions, this is high-class electronic music pure and simple. Caramel Chameleon kicks off with a good time mix of cheery melodies and chattery drums, then Perseus Traxx brings his signature analogue murkiness to the lo-fi house trudge that is 'Something More Than This.' Elsewhere you will find quietly optimistic cuts like Raving Kid' restless 'Edgware Acid' or the dream house reveries of Kreggo's 'Hearthpulse' amongst many other varied treasures.

Review: A year on from the first installment, French electro stable Partout are back with a second volume of Everywhere, introducing the world to more of their deep cover operators working their studios in pursuit of machine funk perfection. AV1 leads with some trippy acid goodness, while Binh Baggs has a techier intention. The Trots bring something ghoulish and nasty to the table with 'Pelusa', while Yate plays around with trancey tropes in a gnarly rave context. There's bags of personality spilling out of these tracks, confirming Partout as a reliable destination for refreshing approaches to the electro-techno tradition.

British veteran Dawl gets his bleep 'n' bass on in typical fashion with the strobing 'Machines In Effect', RXmode & Francois Dillinger darkly scan the dystopic lowlands on "Liquid Chamber" before DJ Home ushers you aboard the acid express on "Muffin The Cat". These are tunes that are ripe for club play but are rooted in odd-pop, synth-punk, DIY and post-kraut styles. The artists hail from all over the globe and include the twisted funk of Seytan Tuyu's 'Anita,' hall of melodic mirrors that is Cilin's 'An Abhainn Mhor' and Mytron & A Von F's soot-black and gritty motorik thriller 'Confiture.' This series has been going since 2017 and this proves, it is still as strong as ever.

Review: When it was released a few weeks ago, the first volume of Ivan Smagghe and Vladimir Ivkovic's two-part IDMEMO: A Future of Nostalgia compilation delivered a killer collection of largely forgotten or overlooked gems from the Artificial Intelligence-era of electronica and ambient techno. The second installment is equally as inspired, with highlights including the ever-changing, acid-flecked exoticism of the Black Dog's 'Psyil Cosyin', Autechre's haunting, 12-minute remix of Seefeel's 'Spangle', the Tangerine Dream-does-ambient trip that is Beautyon's 'To Swing Pil', and the stately beauty of Beaumant Hannant's 'Utuba (Reprised Version)'. Look out also for a largely unknown - and pleasingly melodious - remix of Soft Ballet by Richard D James under his infrequently used Polygon Window pseudonym.

Spanning hi-octane indus bullets, half-baked mutant salvos and shadow-clad juicers from a host of reputed names and rabid underdogs, this new comp collates ruff’n’tuff joints from gritty techno don Container, genre-unbound explorer E-Saggila, Berlin’s electro arsonist Privacy, acid-spitting hydra DJ Loser x Penelopes Fiance, basement guerillero Yabboq Penuel alias Le Syndicat Electronique, neo-punk beat thrasher Crave, Yves Tumor collaborator and sine-wave crusher Anthem, expert circuit dissector Beau Wanzer, Liquid G as remixed by Mick Wills, Night Gaunt’s Lower Tar, occult machine funk preacher Maenad Veyl, DJ Chupacabras under new guise 110, soundwaves cross-pollinator DJ Richard, vibrant mood-scapist Gavilán Rayna Russom, as well as label boss Myn going ubiquitous with studio fellows Kluentah as Myntha, and R Gamble as Fade Accompli. A much desirable feast of raw, unhinged, all-round spine-tingling jams for the club and not.

Review: After 31 years, the Serious Beats compilation serious comes to an end. The very last edition, Serious Beats 100, arrives as a five LP set. The compilation series underlines the progression of commercial house music from a distinctly Belgian perspective, canonizing an incredible number of tracks that have been thoroughly publicly digested and surely will be for years to come. This edition sees appearances from Fatima Yamaha, Fake Blood, Avicii, Dele Sosimi and Parachute Youth.

Review: Partout's limited-edition compilation series (only 200 copies of each volume are pressed) reaches its third instalment. In-keeping with the label's ethos, the eight tracks on show offer an excellent exploration of the electro spectrum. Highlights arrive thick and fast throughout, from the bleeping melodies, moody chords, squiggly acid motifs and electro-not-electro beats of 'Bufo Bufo' by Steelworks, and the bustling electro-bleep revivalism of Unai Trotti's 'Tuesday Jam', to the clanking IDM-with-bells-on bustle of Rei Loci's 'Worlds Collide' and the star-fall, hardware-driven deep house-meets-deep electro wonder of Stinkworx's quietly brilliant 'Thimble of Dew'. Those looking for classical melodic electro flavours should also check out 'Dying For Love' by Athens Computer Underground, which may well be the compilation's most emotive and heart-stirring moment. Recommended!

Review: It was a while ago now that Spanish label Frigio dropped the fourth instalment of this series - back in October 2021, in fact. But as big time breakbeat lovers we're glad they have cooked us up another serving. This fifth edition doesn't muck about either with the crashing jungle intensity of Starhawk & Friends's 'X-22' opening up. There is French rap over more crunchy analogue drums on Rambal Cochet's 'Metacortex' manic industrial electro noise on Jack Carel's contribution and an ice cold sense of cold wave funk to Neud Photo's standout 'Spark Knock.' These are just some of the gems on this timely release.

Review: Music Pour La Danse co-founders Olivier Ducret and Eric 'Bunkerheadz' Hart are both massive fans of turn of the 90s bleep & bass and early breakbeat hardcore, so it's little surprise that they've put together an impressive, two-volume showcase of some of their favourites. The collection was mastered by Forgemasters man Rob Gordon, boasts design from Trevor Jackson and sleeve notes from Matt Anniss (author of bleep bible 'Join The Future'), but it's the quality of the track list that impresses most. Highlights include the sub-heavy electro/bleep/breaks fusion of R-Solution's ludicrously rare 'Blowing My Mind', Unique 3's brilliant - and oten overlooked - 'Digicality', a surprise deep bleep shuffler from A Man Called Adam, and Biosphere's incredible 'Baby Satellite'.

Review: Brum As Fuck is a massive compilation of techno bits from the legendary House Of God label, which is now celebrating its 30th anniversary. The comp contains tunes from some of the most influential and respected names in the niche 'Birmingham sound' enclave of techno, namely Surgeon, Regis, Makaton, Paul Damage, Jerome Hill, Neil Landstrumm and more. Classic HOG anthems sit side-by-side with unreleased gems, showing off the colossal sublimity of a grating yet riveting sound. The coyly named Lentil Hugger Edition is a limited and eco-friendly version of the set, featuring six vinyl records in repurposed boxes from other releases, and of course decorated with HOG stickers.

Review: Barcelona's Nebulae label continues its ongoing exploration of all things ambient, IDM, electro and techno with another mindful album of sublime sonics, this time from a selection of heady musical cosmonauts. There is nice deep and bendy acid to open with then some silky smooth cosmic jungle from Black Rings Under My Eyes that really is top-notch. Zeta Reticula brings some texture to the party as well as crunchy breaks on 'The Planetoid' and then comes lithe electro, supple deep space techno, some intergalactic turbulence from Adhesive and two more rich astral soundscapes married to inventive rhythms. Classy material indeed.

The record is truly indicative of where the Asian electronic music landscape finds itself at present, and the fresh sounds they are capable of. We particularly enjoyed Joe Koshin's late '90s styled big beat on "Astro Wax", London minimalist Voigtmann getting those classic house sounds in effect on the groovy "Time Waits For No Man", while Egyptian gem Hassan Abou Alam delvers some experimental post club music on "Gloom" and Aussie Shedbug serves up the evocative progressive breaks of "A Lil Piece".

Review: 'Latin Freestyle: New York Miami 1983-1992' is a double LP compilation curated by Bob Stanley covering the whole spectrum of Latin Freestyle, a genre that emerged in the early 80s as a fusion of electro, disco, house, and Latin music. Though Freestyle itself was a prominent fixture of the 1980s-90s New York scene particularly, relatively little is known of the genre's popularity in Latino communities at the time. Mitigating the risk of historic erasure, 16 tracks of enduring uniqueness - from the likes of Expose, Stacey Q, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Debbie Deb, Connie, Cover Girls, Pretty Poison, Company B, Will To Power, Alisha, Lil Suzy, and Cynthia - all appear here, recalling genre's massive impact on the community and worlds beyond it.

Review: We're always going to be here for a new compilation series from Soul Jazz Records and Space Funk - Afro Futurist Electro Funk In Space 1976-84 is as good as it gets - even the artwork is killer. This second edition in the series is another twist trip to outer space on body-popping Afro grooves and obscure space funk that was all originally put out on small indie labels in the US between 70s and 80s. Plenty of these bionic joins still sound super fresh and they come from a host of artists you might not have heard of including Alien Starr, Maggatron, Tribe, Rich Cason and the Galactic Orchestra. Strap in, it's quite the ride.

Review: Bosconi Stallions has become the flagship compilation series for Florence’s leading bastion of Italian house music culture, and with each instalment the label’s remit evolves in elegant, considered fashion. As we dive into the third edition it’s clear the legacy of Italian dance music is a vital focus, thanks in no small part to the throbbing arpeggios of The Mechanical Man. There’s space for psychedelic electro tweaking from Minimono and trancey pulses from Queen of Coins and nasty vocodered machine funk from Twovi, all feeding into a vibrant collection that serves as a perfect document of where Bosconi is at, all spread across four sides bursting with heavyweight tracks from legends and new names alike.
