All Stars Vol 3
All Stars Vol 3 (hand-numbered 12" limited to 200 copies)
Cat: FRV 034. Rel: 20 Oct 20
  1. Daniel Holt - "Vaccuous Transient" (9:06)
  2. Grey People - "Bruxism" (7:13)
  3. Scannoir - "De Panaesher" (5:40)
  4. Negocius Man - "101 Wars" (6:29)
  5. Sons Of Traders - "The Smile Of The Body" (6:01)
Review: The third instalment in the Allstars series from Frigio is another selection of murky sonics from a freaky underworld. The opener is a dark trip into intense and underlapping drum grooves and molten synths that crashes from one loop to the next. The rickety drums of 'Bruxism' come with a classic Moby sample that sets it on fire and Negocius Man take us into a world of surveillance and subversion with their tripped out designs and malfunctioning machine sounds. Sons Of Traders offer the most depraved of the lot with a track that is suitably terrifying as the haunting season approaches.

Astra EP
Astra EP (12")
Cat: BAL 02. Rel: 21 Oct 20
  1. Astra (5:36)
  2. Astra (Physical Therapy ESP mix) (7:29)
  3. Glacier (5:55)
  4. Shayla (5:37)
Review: Following up an impressive inaugural release which featured legend Silicon Scally, Joonam - the duo comprised of minimal techno veteran Elon and Nima Khalilian - returns to Brooklyn-based Balagan with the Astra EP featuring some more bass heavy electro beats. There's the darkly dystopian funk of the title track on the A-side, which is followed by an absolutely frantic rework by Allergy Season head Physical Therapy. On the flip, the bleak futurism continues with the suitably titled 'Glacier' which goes down a sublime and cavernous dub techno path, while the sparse and booming breakbeats of 'Shayla' create a captivating backdrop for a truly evocative arrangement. Sterilization Krew
Sterilization Krew (red splattered vinyl 12")
Cat: ET 005. Rel: 22 Oct 20
  1. Kan3da - "Contoso" (3:18)
  2. Blackploid - "Altered Thoughts" (5:37)
  3. Datawave - "Emeria" (5:10)
  4. Electro Nation - "TechnoElectro" (4:28)
  5. Noamm - "Telesthesia" (4:17)
  6. Acidulant - "Rianology" (4:47)
Review: Earlier in the year, Madrid's Electro Records launched the Electro Transmissions series via Abduction Krew, a five-track, multi-artist EP full of cybernetic dancefloor treats. Here they present the follow-up, a rock-solid mini compilation on eye-catching red splatter vinyl entitled Sterilization Krew. There's plenty to excite electro heads throughout, from the sparkling deep electro shimmer of Kan3da's 'Condoso' and the intergalactic, bassline-driven alien funk of Datawave's superb 'Emeria', to the mind-bending, TB-303 driven acid-electro of Acidulant's 'Rainology' and the Aux 88-style high-octane heaviness of Noamm's 'Telesthesia'. It's a rather good collection all told, and with limited numbers of copies being pressed, you'll need to act fast to secure one.

Meri EP
Meri EP (hand-stamped 12" limited to 150 copies)
Cat: TELOMERE 006. Rel: 20 Oct 20
  1. Algoritmi (4:28)
  2. Meri (6:02)
  3. Taika (5:34)
  4. Hejastus (5:44)
Review: Whether you know him best as Dr Floyd, Juno Laine or one of the many other aliases he's had over the years, Russian-in-Finland Kirilll Junolainen is a remarkably prolific and consistent artist in the contemporary electro sound. His recent Preset album Sahkomusiikki is a fine example of this, as is this very special 12" on Telomere. Four cuts deep, each one showcases a different side to Kirill from his most playful ('Algoritmi') to his most stern ('Hejastus') by way of his most laidback and slinky ('Meri') All analogue soul and only essential ingredients, while his output is maximal, the sonic make-up is always perfectly minimal.

Vim & Vigour EP
Cat: ORSON 021. Rel: 22 Oct 20
  1. Mouth Lawson (4:49)
  2. Now Animate (5:31)
  3. Vim & Vigour (5:58)
  4. Vim & Vigour (Transparent Sound remix) (6:00)
Review: While it was initially set up as a vehicle for his numerous solo and collaborative projects (think Transparent Sound and Artificial Arm), Orson Bramley's Orson Records imprint has recently started showcasing releases from other like-minded artists. This EP comes from one such producer, some time I Love Acid, Balkan and Varvet contributor Ben Pest. He begins via the fuzz-fuelled, medium electro aggression of "Mouth Lawson", a genuinely twisted and low-slung treat, before exploring alien-sounding, minor key-heavy pastures on rave-ready follow-up "Now Animate". Pest's love of twisted TB-303 acid lines is explored further on EP highlight "Vim & Vigour", a track that's then taken to even greater peak-time electro heights on the accompanying Transparent Sound remix.

  9. Reset (3:43)
  10. Let Loose (3:45)
  11. Transcending (5:41)
Review: There's an undeniably far-out feel to the Zenker Brothers' second album, Cosmic Transmission, which adds further layers of trippy textures, hallucinatory sounds and smoky intensity to the aural blueprint first explored on their 2015 debut full-length Immersion. There's much to admire throughout, from the mind-bending ambient weirdness of opener 'When Nothing is Safe', and the slipped dub haze of 'Whose In Control', to the drug-addled IDM of 'Natural Connection', and the polyrhythmic techno trip of 'Divided Society'. Most striking of all is the trio of tracks that close the album, all of which are powered forwards not by heavy techno beats (or even their usual crunchy, off-kilter breakbeats) but rather a series of ear-catching, fuzz-soaked synthesizer arpeggio lines.
