  1. Illusions Of Shameless Abundance (feat Lydia Lunch) (5:55)
  2. Alucinao (feat Estado Unido & FKA Twigs) (9:09)
Review: Hot on the heels of "2017-2019", his second album of angular, off-kilter electronics and mechanical rhythms work under the Against All Logic alias, Nicolas Jaar offers up a 12" containing two eyebrow-raising collaborative cuts. Legendary alternative artist Lydia Lunch, who also features on the album, pops up on A-side "Illusions of Shameless Abundance", adding a out there spoken word vocal - much of which is presented as a series of overlapping loops - to Jaar's skewed modular electronics and trippy, out-of-this-world sounds. Estado Unido and FKA Twigs lend a hand on flipside "Alucinao", providing gently soulful lyrical flavour to a distorted, thrillingly aggressive South American electro rhythm, sweaty pots-and-pans percussion and metallic melodic elements.

Review: For a long time, Nicolas Jaar kept quiet about the Against All Logic project, using it as a hype-free alias in which he could express the more forthright and fuzzy side of his artistic personality, free of the musical preconceptions that now come with his given name. The cat's out of the bag now though, and there will no doubt be additional interest in this sophomore set from the project. As the title suggests, it features material recorded between 2017 and 2019, delivering a thrilling blend of mutant, distorted future R&B, over-saturated leftfield house, skittish digi-dancehall drum jams, concrete-clad industrial beat-scapes, and the kind of inspired-but-wonky dancefloor workouts that are next to impossible to accurately describe.

Review: On her last album, 2019's "Zoom", Maria Rossi AKA Cucina Povera abandoned the comforts of her home studio in favour of "in-situ" recordings with a stripped-back selection of equipment. For this follow-up, she's returned to the studio and delivered what Night School describes as, "a slowly unfurling meditation on the clash between nature and mechanical living". Musically, that means an ear-catching, often ethereal blend of foreboding, angular electronics, sampled digital interference, occasional off-kilter beats, atmospheric ambient chords and her own layered, improvised vocals - plus occasional processed field recordings and flashes of acoustic instrumentation. It's a brilliant blend and one that helps make "Tyyni" one of the most intoxicating and otherworldly albums we've heard for some time.

Review: Tokyo-based duo Group A have been operating as outliers for many years now, self-releasing music and earning a reputation for their incendiary live shows. After catching the ear of Alessandro Adriani's mighty Mannequin label, they released a self-titled EP on the Italian imprint back in 2017, and now they're finally back to follow it up with a full-length. Being on Mannequin you should know to expect beyond the grave sonics with heavy notes of industrial and minimal wave, but Group A intersperse this with their own particular strain of sonic personality, from dismembered voices to American TV rips (on the excellent "Channel Surfing". It's an imposing listen, not to mention a captivating one.

Review: Established in the early 1980s by Toyama-based musician Tsuyoshi Kawabata, Pale Cocoon was Japan's short-lived answer to musical fusionists Woo, Penguin Cafe Orchestra and The Durutti Column. The outfit's sole album, 1984's cassette-only "Mayu", has long been considered a cult classic, hence this first ever vinyl edition. Musically, the album is magic, with Kawabata and his collaborators offering up unearthly, mind-massaging soundscapes and pastoral, slow-burn songs crafted from effects-laden guitar textures, haunting flutes, quietly colourful synthesiser motifs, drowsy vocal passages, field recordings, occasional drum machine rhythms and chiming, off-kilter percussion. Wisely they've stretched the 60-minute album across two slabs of wax, too, meaning that every oddball sonic detail and picturesque musical refrain comes through loud and clear. In a word: superb.

Review: Inspired by the pressing issue of climate change and ecological catastrophe, Rone's latest album grew out of a commission he received from Paris' Theatre du Chatelet to create a live show featuring 20 dancers from the Ballet National de Marseille. Interestingly, he decided to use the show as an excuse to go "back to basics" and create the kind of electronic music he made during the early part of his career. The results are largely impressive, sitting somewhere between synth-wave, IDM, ambient and off-kilter experimentalism. Highlights come thick and fast throughout, from the melodic arpeggio lines and hypnotic grooves of "Nouveau Monde", and the layered haziness of "Room With A View", to the skewed dub techno pulse of "Liminal Space" and the near symphonic bliss of "Babel".

Review: If you're unfamiliar with the name Phillip Sollmann it's important to lay out the land first. This is the real name of Efdemin, one of techno's most respected and revered players who calls Berlin's much-feted Berghain and Panorama Bar home, and the moment you know this the omnipresent rhythms driving this distinctly not-really-dance-music nine-tracker forward make perfect sense. Tracks like 'Rara' will be a joy for more adventurous DJs but also work incredibly well as standalone listening pieces. Wooden percussion mimicking the kind of top ends we associate with bouncy but tough club stuff, sans kick drums and bass. 'Micro', which follows, applies the same principle to layers of chime. Elsewhere, things veer into twisted pseudo-rave - 'U/O''s lengthy refrains and drones create the impact of a 5AM breakdown in some strange otherworld, while 'Mono' closes it out on a huge, smile-inducing high.

Review: Where does electronic music lead you? To the inside, to a calm and warm place where sound resonates with your body in quiet bliss, or to the outside where the rhythm wants you dance, even without moving? "WTMCT" gives an answer to these questions that is complex yet extremely easy to understand in an immediate sentient and emotive way.

Menelaos music is unusual and unlikely both with respect to the structure and arrangement of tracks, and the materiality and spatiality of the sound. And yet these sounds convey an immediate sensation of familiarity and ease, of beauty and relaxation. Menelaos utilizes loudness and extreme dynamics in a thoughtful and intriguing way to accentuate strange runaway sounds while maintaining the continuity of the flow of the tracks, which is Ambient to the core. This is a rare art in our time, where hypercompressed and superoptimized glossy sounds dominate most of Ambient, drone and even deep listening music.

In this aspect the album follows and refines the subtle production skills of seminal electronic artists like Jan Jelinek or Terre Thaemlitz a.k.a. DJ Sprinkles. What is genuinly special about Menelaos music is the natural and seemingly effortless fusion of challenging experimentalism and a warm and soothing organic sound-design. This shows exemplary in the collaborative tracks with trombonist and bass trumpet player Achim Fink, a founding figure of the Cologne jazz and free improvisation scene of the eighties. Achim is uncompromisingand in times disruptive play merges perfectly into Menelaos serene soundscapes.

This way "WTMCT" became a genuine album. It tells a story. It invites deep exploration but it does not demand it, thus transcending common notions of how Ambient or Electronica should sound. Text: Frank Eckert

The Album includes also some warm sampels (my live with the wave vol 1+ 2) from the Detroit legend Mike Huckaby to whom i very thankful.
