Electribal Soul
Cat: TRIBE 2CD. Rel: 15 Mar 22
  1. Insatiable Love
  2. Space Oasis
  3. Moving Downtown
  4. Conquering Tomorrow
  5. Deadline For My Memories
  6. A Sigh Won't Do
  7. True Moments Of My World
  8. Hands Up & Amen
  9. Persuasion
  10. Deadline For My Memories (alternative version)
  11. You & I (Keep Holding On)
Review: If Electribal Soul sounds deliciously vintage, there's a good reason for that. An exemplary exploration of glassy-eyed synth-pop and electro, deep house and street soul marked out by tactile electronic motifs, warm basslines and Billie Ray Martin's superb vocals, the album was mostly recorded in 1991 and '92 at a time when relationships in the group were beginning to fray. Now tidied up and released by Martin three decades after it was shelved, Electribal Soul has the feel of a genuine lost classic - a set that would have received rave reviews at the time had it appeared in late 1992 as originally intended. A genuine triumph that's as loved-up and saucer-eyed as a sweaty hug at sunrise on an Ibizan beach.

Love & Hate In A Different Time: Mixes
  1. Love & Hate In A Different Time (Kerri Chandler vocal mix) (7:32)
  2. Love & Hate In A Different Time (acappella) (4:44)
  3. Love & Hate In A Different Time (623 Again mix) (5:54)
  4. Love & Hate In A Different Time (Feel mix) (5:39)
Review: Gabriels' new electronic gospel EP (soundtracking their short film of the same name, which chronicles the history of dance on film) has made tidal waves. They've now gone the extra mile, pulling some strings to deliver 3 exclusive mixes of its title track by none other than house legend Kerri Chandler. The unbeatable house homeboy takes the reigns on the A-side for an techy soul vocal mix, backed up by a perfectly clean acapella. On the B, his 623 Again and Feel mixes repurpose the tune a second and third time, undeterred by trancier and dubbier moods.

Where Love Lives (30th Anniversary Edition) (remastered) (Record Store Day 2020)
  1. Where Love Lives (Classic mix) (6:55)
  2. Where Love Lives (Mo' Knuckles mix) (5:57)
  3. Where Love Lives (cut To The Bone mix) (5:05)
Review: Alison Limerick's 'Where Love Lives' is the sound of a generation, a reminder of one of the most vital cultural movements of the last 100 years. It is a perma-hit that unites all ages, colours and creeds, even now, 30 years after it first got hands in the air and tears in the eyes on dance floors of cult clubs around the world. To mark the occasion it gets a special remaster treatment and 12" release for Record Store Day. The Classic Mix - which is still the best - kicks off, followed by a big piano version from Mo Knuckles and a darker, more stripped back Cut To The Bone mix.

Push The Feeling On (reissue)
Push The Feeling On (reissue) (12" reeditado) (1 per customer)
Cat: GR 1286. Rel: 19 Apr 22
  1. Push The Feeling On (The dub Of Doom) (6:33)
  2. Push The Feeling On (MK dub Revisited) (8:40)
  3. Push The Feeling On (MK mix 95) (7:07)
Review: The Nightcrawlers' tune 'Push The Feeling On' is one of US garages most iconic. It was a hit on dance floors and in the charts all over the western world and was also what lay the foundations for MK's whole career. The dub version he served up became a signature sound for the producer throughout the 90s and beyond. That original 95 mix is included here and has the yearning vocals pacing about the mix, the snappy hits and warm, fat drums rolling down low. A Revisited version tweaks things only slightly and the Dub of Doom version is the most chunky and paired back of the lot with a slightly dark sense of menace pervading the whole affair.

Break Of Dawn (reissue)
Break Of Dawn (reissue) (white vinyl 12")
Cat: NWKT 24. Rel: 02 Sep 21
  1. Break Of Dawn (original 1991 mix) (5:27)
  2. Break Of Dawn (Rhythm On The Loose 95 remix) (5:35)
  3. Break Of Dawn (Strike remix) (6:39)
  4. Break Of Dawn (Stonebridge Monday Bar Full On mix) (8:28)
Review: There are classics and then there are classics. The original Rhythm On The Loose tune 'Break Of Dawn' deserves a class all of its own as it stands proud as one of the most iconic dance tunes of all time. The legendary main riff inspired by producer Geoff Hibbert seeing dawn break on an Italian coast line, the big vocal sample taken from 'First Choice's Let No Man Put Asunder', the punchy drums... it's got everything you need to blow up a big crowd. Here we get the original next to bounce remixes from Strike and Stonebridge. This timely reissue will fly off the shelves, and for good reason.

Multitrack Reworks Vol 1
Multitrack Reworks Vol 1 (hand-stamped 12" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: MT 001. Rel: 29 Nov 21
  1. Clouds (7:11)
  2. Slave (6:08)
Review: Multitrack Reworks is a new label that will be putting out limited edition, hand-stamped white label 12"s that are made from reworked tunes that have been constructed from the original multitracks. Kicking off the first one is the queen of soul that is Chaka Khan and a version of 'Clouds' with nice loose drums, big string builds and a silky vocal. Flip it over and you will find a brilliantly dynamic and funky new take on the most classic Grace Jones jam, 'Slave To The Rhythm.' It's packed with plenty of rich instrumental licks, a flamboyant sense of melody and of course Grace's own seductive voice.
