Review: The third vinyl release of the year from Blur Records sees three distinguished producers - ColorJaxx, T.Markakis and Manuel Kane - sharing duties, each delivering a track each but with the distinctive, music-centred 'deep house fusion' flavour of the Blur label very much at their heart. ColorJaxx's 'I Know You' kicks off proceedings in upbeat mood, goaded along by a skippy garage beat, some beautiful piano work and arresting male vocals. Review: Twilight is the latest piece by long time DJ, producer and remixer, Dominic Dawson. The Japanese label Flower, has released this single to 7" complete with a remix for the second side. The title track is a catchy and funky house track that while the remix is a bit more Balearic and beachy. Both versions have their place in any house setlist and will set the tone for any eclectic DJ set. With the DJing background Dominic has, he is a great guide to setting the mood with music. Review: ]Jesse Maas career making dance music is relatively short but is building a good buzz about his strong work on his last few releases especially. JSS222 is the first EP he has made for the Aku label. The production is killer on this EP overall so expect this 12" to rock the dancefloor without hesitation. If you have any doubt, just go straight for the A2 upbeat, tech house banger 'On You'. This kind of work reminds of key Derrick Carter business. Chicago styled tech house that isn't scared to have vocals but they really rock the house crowd at a techno crowds' speed. 'Yamasa' sounds like something you would hear on Poker Flat records. 'Make It' adds a bit of progressive house feel to close the EP out. In all, this EP is guaranteed to do some work on the dancefloors that hear these. Have no fear, Jesse Maas is here!

'Try Again' is tense emotionally and physically with deep cut, well-defined grooves topped with the smooth vocal coos and rising synth tension. A Ben Miller 4am Afro dub then brings more skip and funk to the rhythms while Davi Penn keeps things tight and tech-y with his version. Review: Machine originally dropped this mini-disco classic back in 1979 as the title cut to their album of that year, and now it's offered up again with a couple of remixes that rework the original. That original is the star of the show still here with the 1979 version still standing out. Next to that are a poising Timmy Regisford mix and acapella reprise as well as a Moplen remix and dub. This studio disco group was first formed by August Darnell who had previously been part of Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band and then in the 1980s went on to be part of Kid Creole And The Coconuts.

Review: Having accumulated millions of plays for their tracks on a video-sharing site, deep house crew Magnetic Family make their vinyl bow via Shall Not Fade offshoot Lost Palms. The EP is titled Songs For The Open Air, and it's a fitting descriptor. Opener 'Haze', for example, is a picture postcard perfect slice of immersive, tactile and dreamy deep house loveliness that sounds tailor-made for unfurling as the sun comes up at an open-air party, while the chunkier and more dubbed-out 'Aerial' has '3am at Barbarellas in Croatia' all over it. Elsewhere, 'North Circular' adds jazzy synth licks, colourful pads and warming organ stabs to loose-limbed classic house groove, while 'A Love' is a more thickset roller with deep bass, eyes-closed vocal snippets and swirling sonics.

Review: A relative newcomer to the scene, MAKEZ is fast spreading its wings. This duo finds itself back on the soulful house label Heist Recordings out of the Netherlands. "Closer" (feat AVA LAVA) gives us memories of classic Naked Music back in the last 90s. An ideal balance between jazzy house and deep house. "Running From The Noise" (feat Life On Planets) isn't far behind. Another upbeat gem where the vocal suits the deepness perfectly. 'The Answer' on the flip side amps things up with a more 90s techno approach that MAKEZ has the touch to still work in a great vocal on. Things get a bit deeper and darker with the more serious 'Gratitude' that completes the EP. Overall, 'The Midnight EP' has a terrific combination of soulful, uplifting and serious house music that never forgets the fun aspect. You would be glad to be a part of this party!

Review: If you're reading this then you will know that Instinct is one of the UK's powerhouse garage labels. Run by Burnski aka James Burnham it deals in serious tackle for rude boys and nasty girls. The drums hit hard, the reversed bassline burn goose old school cool and there gun finger salutes come thick and fast throughout this EP from Mance. 'Checkpoint' opens with the dusty drum shuffles and bulbous bass, then 'The Going Is Rough' is a little more soulful and sweet with its rolling basslines and silky pads. This is their debut for Yaxteq and it brims with that signature Motor City soul. The A-side is taken up with a pair of tunes that are split into two parts and both just roll and roam with a delightful freedom. 'The Sun On The Refugees' has a more unsettled melodic phrasing that loops and loops until its joined with some extra keys that release the pressure then 'Satellite Orbit Funk' is downbeat and dusty house a la Theo Parrish. Superb.

Review: Mega eerie techno from Germany's own Michael Melchner, proving techno can indeed be done differently, not least when its groceries are in season. Active since 2008, springboarding his career with the label and masters of German uniformity and drab, Cargo Edition, Melchner has since flown the nest into further-afield aerations with Paragram, Bloop Recordings and now, Different Times. 'New World Supermarket' truly sounds to be a grim sort, with the title track, together with the ensuing 'The Voyeur', 'Anatomicouture', and 'Kolonne Null', painting a rather anxious, suspenseful and brutalist picture of future grocery shopping. The closing track is something of a cathartic let-up compared to the first three, its pace relatively downtempo and its choice of samples roomy and sci-fi, though the creep factor still ever-so-slightly remains.

Review: Mella Dee is a master of making function tunes that blow apart a dancefloor but never lack character. He's been knocking them out for years now, always subtly tweaking his aesthetic and for this new on on Private Parts he tapes into electro and minimal. There is plenty of slickness to the tight drums of 'Strictly Ruffneck (Come Again)' and a squelchy garage bounce underpins the synth fizz of 'Just Need To'. '5am (Your Love)' is another rugged drum cut with a prying bassline and 'Twisted Funk' closes down with warped metallic lines and jittery low ends. Great body music once more.

The eighth volume is another doozy that covers all shades of house Moon Rocket, Mattei & Omich open up with 'Find Your Way' (feat Bel-Ami). It's a dreamy sound with lush vocals and shimmering percussion and melodies. Spellband then offer up some soulful sound and soft, cuddly house drums while Cosmo & Kramer remix Mabiisi with a raw percussive edge over rubbery and rolling beats. Sobek closes out with some cosmic turbulence and percolating percussive funk on 'True Anomaly.'

Review: Shout out to brand new label Planka that opens its account with the perfect entitled Funderground EP. It's a various artist affair that welcomes some new names (to us) to the scene and first to go and first to impress is Moray. 'Lujuria Universal' is full flavour tech with punchy kicks and driving, fizzing bass to get clubs going. Natural Goofy brings twitchy cosmic unease to his hurried 'You Are Alone' then Len Lewis takes things into more physical realms with the loopy tech and astral basslines of 'The Emperor Strikes Back'. It is left to Will Vickers to close down and he does so with the freewheeling and turbocharged house of 'Arf Tone.'

Review: The unstoppable Fuse continues its X series with a meeting between Italian veteran Alex Neri and next generation Florence-rooted hero Mennie. The sound is big, bold and 90s on this EP, with 'Reality' setting the tone perfectly with its trance-informed arps, sensual rhythm section and 'outer space' speech samples. 'Find Me' has a slightly more intricate techno make up to its synth work, while 'Rockets' shrugs off the grandiose synths for a tougher rhythm track sprinkled with acid. 'Watch Me' completes the picture with a rawer, nastier workout that maintains that old-stool flavour the duo have laid down on this deadly release.

Review: Deep In Dis make a defiant comeback with their latest V/A, across which five new jaunty minimal house cuts are heard. Beginning with an expositional slow-burn - Pily's 'Bailo En Circuito', which samples Alma Matris' vocals - we then move into the juddering trance of 'Buahh Trance' by Marcos Coya and then the first mix of 'Badalona's House' by Prince De Takicardie, the latter of which is far rougher and classic in sound. Jnjs' 'X Money' brings up the B with a UK garage turn, a mood which continues with Eren Arif's 'High Volume'.

Review: Sakro's sound has always been expertly designed a perfect blend of form and function. Now in collaboration with Max Jacobson the same can still be said on the evidence of this new three-track offering on Germany's constantly excellent Raw imprint. It kicks off with 'Walking Into Mirrors' which is a full-throttle tech house cut with nice rubbery kicks and busy melodic patterns swirling about the mix. 'Planet Arium' sinks into a deeper, more heady atmosphere with the kicks still driving but the synth work here is more muted and late night. 'Chapter 16 - Remember To Go Home' is an almost ten minute B-side trip to the stars.

Review: If you love the sound of Get Physical and similarly anthemic German techno labels, you're going to love this release on new label Didschn. The label nods to a track Super Flu released back in 2010, which was remixed to great effect by Monkey Safari a couple of years back. Now Super Flu open proceedings on this new release in partnership with Ivan Mas on the epic, infectious 'It's A House Day'. Monkey Safari then hop on the B-side for 'Malmedy', which hits a sweet spot near the mid-00s melodic minimal you'd hear from the likes of Gabriel Ananda. Then Super Flu and Mar+Mer link up for 'AMA', a sensual, emotive hands-in-the-air moment to move the masses.
