  1. Alex Arnout - "Hypersomnia"
  2. Tuccillo - "Another Day"
  3. Terry Francis - "Jua"
  4. Kilian Vega - "Ardour"
Review: Jack's House is back with another wedge of crucial cuts from a spread of big hitters, kicking off with Alex Arnout and the tightly wound roller "Hypersomnia." Tuccillo is in a heads down mood on "Another Day," letting the drums and the bassline do the brunt of the work. Terry Francis favours a heavy, smoky sound palette that has a bassline that will do some serious damage on a decent system - "Jua" is easily the strongest track on the record. Killan Vega closes the record with a smart deep house jam peppered with crafty sound design elements that lift the track beyond the average chord-led workout.

Flowers EP (12")
Cat: SS 048. Rel: 08 Sep 18
  1. Andrew Ashong & Theo Parrish - "Flowers"
  2. Andrew Ashong - "Take It Slow"
  3. Andrew Ashong - "The Way She Moves" (short version)
Review: At first glance, the pairing of Forest Hill resident Andrew Ashong and Sound Signature boss Theo Parrish would seem strange. But the duo have worked together previously with the Ghanaian born vocalist (and supposed owner of a vinyl collection that would make most record shops look like a car boot sale) lending his soulful tones to Parrish's excellent nine minute plus translation of the Hot Chip and Spiritualised affiliated About Group. Whereas that collaboration was more about Ashong's voice being just one element of a production that was undoubtedly Parrish, the three tracks present on the Flowers EP look to showcase what a talent the Londoner is. Those trademark dust filled stacatto rhythms are present in the opening title track, but they never swamp Ashong's killer vocal delivery, while "Take It Slow" is bonafide D funk of the highest order. After the brutal, divisive nature of Theo's kung fu experimentalism on the Any Other Styles EP, these three tracks show him in a wholly new light and hopefully Parrish and Ashong will be making much more music together.

Solar Society (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: F&F 004. Rel: 18 Sep 17
  1. Two Thou - "Group Technology" (with Alberto Collodel)
  2. Autre - "Cosmic Roots"
  3. Two Thou - "SOL"
  4. Autre - "Futura"
Review: The Fields & Forest label has so far aligned itself with the stellar Russian label Udacha, featuring Dices, A5 and Cuisine Dub, but things are taking a turn into new territory with the inclusion of Autre and Two Thou with two tracks a piece on this new slab of wax. Two Thou's "Group Technology" is a snappily shaped, 80s influenced groover with some interesting timbres falling into a dynamic groove, while "SOL" shows another side to the artist with a snaking slice of jazz funk infused experimental techno. Autre's "Cosmic Roots" is a more esoteric, new age gilded slice of ambient house while "Futura" ramps up the saucy synths for a silk-tongued charmer of a warm-up jam.

Subee #2 (12")
Cat: SBEE 002. Rel: 13 Mar 20
  1. B0n - "Bitch Face" (6:39)
  2. B0n - "What's That" (5:00)
  3. T3x3 - "Mother Fucking Shit" (5:27)
  4. T3x3 - "Baganoush" (5:23)
Review: Six months ago Laidlaw and Jamie Mannion launched a new offshoot of their beloved Beeyou imprint, Subee. The sub-label's second release showcases cuts from not one by two little-known producers. B0n is at the controls on side A, first delivering the colourful, bassline-driven house bounce of "Bitch Face", before reaching for the squelchy electronics, ear-catching synths and booming sub-bass on "What's That". Over on side B T3x3 delivers two funky fusions of UK garage, tech-house and deep house. "Mother F*cking Sh*t" sees the producer pepper a snappy two-step beat with deep analogue bass, dubbed out tech-house riffs and quirky electronics, while "Baganoush" sounds like an unlikely collaboration between Chez Damier, MJ Cole and Sheffield swingers Swag (look 'em up, kids).

Mixx Splits #3 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MIXX 21. Rel: 29 Feb 16
  1. Brothers' Vibe - "Lonliness"
  2. Eddie Merced - "Midtown Cruisin'"
  3. Tominori Hosoya - "Paradise"
  4. George P - "Deep Space"
Review: Astute wax enthusiast Brothers' Vibe brings forth the third installment of his Mixx Split series, meant to cast light on what the multi-label boss is notorious for: soulful house music! Also signing the opening track 0.95Lonliness', the American prodigy takes us on a deep incursion, skillfully layering classic house beats over uplifting sounds into a heart racing groove. Newcomer Eddie Merced follows up with a deep and dreamy offering, infusing trancy vibes into a futuristic bassline for a full 6:29 minutes of 'Midtown Cruisin''. Delving further into the deep ambient realm, Japanese producer Tominori Hosoya doles out some tribal sounds for his spatial track "Paradise". Closing tune "Deep Space" gives away just a bit of the surprise in its title, as George P injects his signature Tech House oomph in a contrasting murky bassline.

  5. Wipe The Needle - "Rise Up" (feat Lifford - Kai Alce Distinctive remix) (7:47)
Review: Most of the cuts showcased on the latest EP from Kai Alce's NDATL label - released in cahoots with Makin' Moves - have previously only been available digitally, while the others have never appeared at all. For that reason alone, the 12" is well worth checking out. Alce begins by offering up his warm, soulful and groovy vocal revision of Emdee Brown's "Again", before treating us to two versions of DJ Kemit and the Lounge Lizards' "Wake Up Stand" - a righteous vocal take and a "Hardubb" that brilliantly recasts it as a rolling late night bumper. Over on side B you'll find the broken beat/deep house fusion of Alce's rub of Malik Alston's "Promise Me Love" and a baggy, soulful and lilting rework of "Rise Up" by Wipe The Needle.

Bulb (12")
Cat: COTF 008. Rel: 07 Sep 15
  1. Light It Up (11:29)
  2. Dimmer Switch (10:35)
Review: Scott Fraser and Timothy J Fairplay's Crimes Of The Future label has had quite the banner year, ushering in various projects from the pair as well as seeking out like-minded contemporaries such as Perseus Traxx. The latest Crimes of the Future release introduces Bulb, another project bearing the label founder's finger prints along with a high profile third colluder in one William Burnett. Apparently laid down at WT Records HQ in the spring of 2014 whilst Fairplay and Fraser were committing Crimes in NYC, Bulb is a bold offering from the trio with two extended dancefloor workouts taking a side each. "Light It Up" pairs ghetto techno breaks with something from wayward Kosmiche studio experiments in deepest Germany, whilst "Dimmer Switch" plunges into a world of psychedelia and cavernous cave dwellings thanks to some dark ambient synthesis and stabbing drums.

  1. Leon Carson - "China Trax" (8:32)
  2. Theo Parrish - "Insane Asylum" (9:57)
Review: Oh yes, we love it when Theo represses some of his most sought after tracks and this one is particularly well-timed. Leron Carson is still an unknown figure, a kid who used to make viciously raw and futuristic techno tracks in the late 1980's! "China Trax", alongside the rest of his tracks on a different Sound Signature double 12", is totally ahead of its time and if it was truly made in 1987 then it is nothing short of amazing. Of course, it's not just the year it was made in that's interesting but also the fact that it's music without an age, able to be appreciated by any generation of techno freaks. Theo's own "Insane Asylum" on the flipside is also pretty monumental; rigged beats, off-kilter grooves and that familiar spontaneity so heavily associated to the label. RECOMMENDED.

Ad Hoc Presents: Volume 3 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: AHR 004. Rel: 16 Jul 18
  1. Cervo - "Hesse Groove" (4:37)
  2. Taurtollo - "Om's Mehndi" (5:40)
  3. Chambers - "The Gentleman" (6:46)
  4. Yadava - "Kadampa 125" (5:08)
Review: The fourth release on Manchester-focused label Ad Hoc brings together a range of outernational grooves from some fast-rising talents. Cervo is aligned with the Banana Hill parties, and also previously released on Black Acre and Lumberjacks In Hell. His "Hesse Groove" takes a mellow, spaced out approach to dusty machine-powered house, while Taurtollo gets into a bongo-heavy jam for the eclectic warm up session. Chambers' "The Gentleman" is a loose and smooth jazzy number that revolves around a few key samples to create its seductive vibe, and then Yadava finishes the EP off with the free-roaming double bass exploration of "Kadampa 125."

Review: Perpetual Rhythms is already well-regarded as a bastion of quality amongst contemporary Chicago house labels, and now they've downright sealed the deal with this mammoth compilation from a stellar cast of local cats. There's too many to all list in detail here, so focusing on the highlights, Dcee leads things in with the tumbling cosmic jazz leanings of "Suavecito," Hakim Murphy teases with a spacious and daring exploration in the liminal zone between ambient and house, and Obsolete Music Technology gets invigorating with the bouncy "High Top Fade." Those tracks alone are enough to deserve your hard earned, but there's reams of other excellent forward-facing Windy City jams to sink your teeth into.

Review: It's been 18 months since Fundamental Sounds last touched wax but they're making up for it with a four track homage to the first emperor of China's reincarnating, time-leaping warriors. Every track hits with heritage and the right level of drama. Dcook takes the lead with dream Detroitian tones and textures while Diego Perrisson gets his eerie acid wriggle on while Taelue brings a little sentimentality to the blend with a swooning cut that wouldn't have gone amiss in DJ Gregory's armoury years ago. Finally Chicagodeep returns with a timeless Chicago synth workout laced with strong traces of immersion. Let battle commence.

Review: The Nubreed series has built amazing momentum over the past year and Global Underground are very proud to announce Denney as the newest DJ to turn in a future classic for the iconic series. The British producer has stated that this three month labour of love resulted in the most personal and emotive selection of music he has made in his career thus far. He thought his Essential Mix was tough going - but mixing Nubreed 12 he felt he reached another level. Features 29 tracks, including four exclusives from Denney and friends, with highlights such as the artist's own "Genena", the Andy Cato classic "7AM Drop", legend Danny Howell's massive "Isolar" and the progressive house classic "I Wish You Were Here" by John Creamer & Stephane K (feat Nkemdi - Omid 16B Revisit remix).

Review: Since 2006, Leipzig-based Bondage Music have had a consistent output of quality deep/tech house grooves by an all-star cast from Mihai Popoviciu, Markus Homm, to Pornbugs and NTFO. Once again showing off their sonic diversity on a various artists EP, "Bondage Games Part 5" features Deep Vibes main man Sascha Dive pursuing his newfound love of cavernous and glacial dub techno sounds on the stark "Dark Night", while label staple Frink goes deeper into the late night on the slinky and seductive bounce of "Vega". Similarly on the flip, Toman serves up some sensual mood music on his offering "Time To Time" and finally Philipp Gonzalez goes for a moody and atmospheric vibe on dancefloor drama "Open Hips".

Review: Super Tuff is a relatively new concern hailing from Brooklyn, committed to presenting a broad range of talent from the more curious corners of the house spectrum. On this third release we're introduced to the delightful sound of DJ Heure, who unfurls wonderful pattering percussion, jazzy notes and a mellow, ambient finish to pull at the heartstrings. There's a slightly more forthright thump to Hot Coffee's "On The Verge", but it's still a dusky twist on the typical deep house formula. Label boss M. Vaughan brings things a little more upfront on "Man 2 Man", and top-drawer German producer Tilman weaves a rich and invigorating tale with his swooning "A Day To Remember".

Review: Hot damn! Fresh Chicago booty action from legends of the genre on the fifth outing from the increasingly on-point Albion label! Here we have the legendary Dance Manian Dj Lil' Tal with "Questions", which sees the producer give up some of his classic ghetto sound with the usual bag of kinky vocal samples, while Phran's "Nexxxt" is rawer, nastier and more punishing while still keeping the vocal shots. Legend Traxman looses the plot on the bumpy "Get High", and the mysterious DJ Handsome sways and swings among bleeps on the aptly named "Pop Yo Pussy".

Review: New label Nuances de Nuit kick off in fine style with a various artists 12" that draws on some emergent names to lay out a vision of cross-style dance music that favours the deeper end of the pool. Things get going with an organ-rich house bumper from DJ Steaw that pumps in all the right places, before Armless Kid switches things up with an untitled slice of dynamic, richly layered electro. T. Jacques thumps out a crafty, swinging cut with techy inclinations and oodles of groove, and E. Wan takes things in a more linear, deep techno direction laden with gorgeous synth work and plenty of artful effects processing.

  3. Tentation
Review: Tomoki Tamura and Tuccillo are back together once again as Doublet, with both seasoned electronic champs having fun in the studio jamming out the kind of stripped back, heads down grooves you'd expect to hear them play out. "Tee's 8" is a cheeky A side jam with the kind of acid line that goes down easy and then works you from the inside out. "Three Thousand Men" has a slight dubby thread to it which sits comfortably amongst the sturdy groove of the drums, and then "Tentation" switches gears for a bright and melodic creation that skips around in funky syncopation without even needing to worry about a kick drum.

Review: Tomoki Tamura and Tuccillo first fired up their Doublet collaboration back in 2015, and after a brief hiatus they've reignited the project with another three delicate and dynamic excursions. "Chotto Complications" is a crafty construction that works around an electro framework, with intricate beat programming and nimble synth lines anchored by fulsome chord drops. "Big Moon" takes things into a more hypnotic headspace, using hushed tones to mark out the atmosphere around an undulating deep house groove. "Tiger Nuts (dub)" is the feistiest track on the record, using a punchy rhythm section and nagging sample daggers to create an insistent groove that will do the damage for the tech house cognoscenti.

Mitchell's Fold (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: DEFP 018. Rel: 05 Mar 19
  1. Mitchell's Fold
  2. Fontaine Bleau
  3. Swelted
Review: REPRESS ALERT: London's Default Position label has thus far released music by Sebastian Mullaert, Terry Francis and many more. Now El Choop and Tim Gee step up to the plate with two seriously deep immersions. Bristol-based producer El Choop has previously popped up on a tape release with Heavenchord and also released a solo 12" last year on Etui, while this single marks Tim Gee's first outing to date. The two sound utterly at home in the dub house furrow they're digging into, leading in with the cavernous echo chamber meditations of "Mitchell's Fold" before slipping into the slightly more energised "Fontaine Bleau." "Swelted" graces the B side with the most upfront set of drums on the record, while maintaining the shimmering elegance of the dub chords that permeate the other two tracks.
