Review: Acclaimed producer Lord Of The Isles and Scottish poet Ellen Renton come together for this sublime collaborative album on AD 93. They say the music and the words came to them in a concentrated and quick period of time back in 2020. As such they capture some of the feelings and emotions of that weird pandemic period "especially the feeling of anger, which is expressed by Renton as a feeling that is not wholly negative but complicated, necessary, unifying and even joyful." The dusky music unfurls in absorbing experimental fashion with pedals and vintage synths lending a mood and texture that is warm and fuzzy. It's an organic work with the imperfections left in, just like life itself.

Brain
Review: London-based, Australian producer Surusinghe is next up on Tasker's AD93 label with a thrilling mix of worldly rhythms and earth shattering bass. It is only a year since this artist debuted but already she sits at the top table with a sound so physical it cannot be ignored. Breakbeat, techno, bass and more are all chewed up and spat out in her meticulously cross-pollinated sound hybrids. Heavyweight opener 'Bop' has crushing bass and wiggling synths, 'Bet' has hints of UK funky in the drum patterns and flip side joint 'Boka' will twist floors inside out before 'Brain' is a more slow and purposeful full body workout.
