Review: And Is Phi (Andrea Isabelle Phillips) is a multi-disciplinary artist from Norway and the Philippines now based in South East London. Double Pink is a debut album of great quality that draws on a wide sphere of influence, from Joni Mitchell's tender vocals to Frank Zappa's weirdness via 90s r&b and the jazz tinged beatmaking of Madlib's seminal album for Blue Note. it is both late night and languid but immediate and emotive, with a world of colour and texture that is all blurred, smoothed off, packed with emotion and smart riffs, melodies and hooks.

Review: Jonny Drop working with Andre Ashong is not a collab you might have seen coming, but it is one you will be glad has happened. Puzzle Dust is reportedly an album that was four years in the making and it comes on a lovely blue slab of vinyl. Musically it is a work that fuses soul and psychedelia with stripped-back broken beats, dusty drums and lo-fi rhythms peppered with earthy percussion. At times sunny and upbeat, at others stoned and horizontal, Ashong's hazy vocals colour the tracks with his signature smoky soul. A fantastic coming together of two diverse but quality artists.

Review: Matthew Gordon's latest outing as Pie-Eye Collective, a staggeringly good, boundary-blurring album that marks his second appearance on Albert's Favourites, is reportedly "an instrumental exposition of how people experience different lives in the same city". It's a loose enough concept to allow plenty of subtle stylistic variation, unified by a consistent sonic approach that's deep, opaque, hazy and subtly off-kilter. We can hear nods to the sonics of dub techno, immersive ambient soundscapes, jazz, IDM and the LA beat-making scene, though the resultant tracks are never anything less than unique. Gordon has a very distinctive musical voice, and it's that - along with the quality of his sound design - that resonates. A late contender for album of the year lists.

Review: Although short on vinyl releases - this, we think, is his first - Matthew Gordon has been making music as Pie Eye Collective for some time, releasing solo productions via digital platforms and contributing to Emma Thackray's WALRUS project. Gordon could well be a star in the making though because Salvation - his first full-length proper - is genuinely excellent. White rooted in broken beat, instrumental hip-hop and the hazier, slower end of UK bass, the album's appeal in part stems from the dreaminess of his electronic chords, the beauty of his synthesizer sounds, and the crackling haziness of the saturated tape sounds Gordon loves adding to productions. We're not quite sure where his sound sits, but the music on offer is genuinely brilliant. We await his next steps with keen interest.

Review: London beat-maker Hector Plimmer has a wide palette of influences - think off-kilter hip-hop grooves of Flying Lotus, contemporary jazz, British bass music, the soul-fired deep house of Theo Parrish and the jazz-funk influenced skip of broken beat - yet the music he makes is never cluttered, confused or needlessly eclectic. In fact, as this second album proves, he has a clear vision. Deep, soulful, warm and attractive, the set's 13 tracks are universally superb and come laden with vocals from a high-grade cast-list of guests including Andrew Ashong, Emma-Jean Thackray, Ella May and the Pie Eye Collective. It's one of those albums that will almost certainly be slept on, so do yourself a favour and don't let it pass you by.

Review: Albert's Favourites are like managers of a large public swimming pool - they've got a wave-making machine at their disposal. In this case his name is Scrimshire, a multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ from London, who has been making figurative waves in the jazz and electronic scene for over a decade. His latest album Paroxysm, s a stunning showcase of his versatility, mixing themes of anxiety, anger and hope via a blend of jazz, soul, hip-hop and electronica. Featuring guest appearances from the likes of Emma-Jean Thackray, And Is Phi, Bessi and more, Scrimshire's vision is as doomy and tempered by electronica as it is influenced by classic jazz, providing a beguiling middle ground.
