Cat: AR 002. Rel: 29 Sep 14

Disco/Reediciones
Je Na' (Mario Boncaldo original 1983 special mix)
Pagaia (Mario Boncaldo original 1983 special mix)
Review: Archeo Recordings is a reissue record label that regenerates old, lost, obscure (and forgotten) rare gems of Italian music of the 70s and 80s, and not only. All outputs are licensed by the artists and the vintage labels; audio tracks are remastered in their original form; the sleeves and center labels are graphically recreated for today but all based on the original images. Archeo would like to make the music available to a wider audience of collectors, DJs, music lovers of a forgotten time.
All releases are hand-numbered limited edition vinyl. The first 100 copies of each release are pressed in coloured vinyls. This first release is dedicated to the sought- mix "Je -na / Pagaia" by Tony Esposito 1983 - cult record and more and more "expensive" - which is a rarity of Afro-cosmic Italian music. A very popular piece at the time and fortunately returned in vogue today thanks to many followers, DJs and lovers to the great "Balearic" family. The music of Tony Esposito is inspired by sounds from many countries around the world, mixing tribal rhythms with Neapolitan melodies, well represented by the track "Je -na", where the wide range of styles is manifested in its hypnotic sounds and rhythm in his percussion. The two tracks were born in 1983 after a trip to Jamaica and were composed together with Pino Daniele. The style and sound of these two pieces reflects the influence of Bob Marley and his group, with whom Tony Esposito has worked both in Italy and in Kingston Town, Jamaica .

Like many of the greatest Italo-disco records, Tony Esposito's 1983 double A-side "Je-Na'"/"Pagaia" is ridiculously rare. Put it this way: if you fancy nabbing yourself an original copy, it will make a serious dent in your wallet. This welcome reissue presents both tracks in their original 12" glory, mixed with clubs in mind by Mariano Boncaldo of Klein & M.B.O fame. It's the A-side that's arguably the pick of the pair, featuring as it does a Balearic-friendly blend of dense, bongo-laden rhythms, tribal chants and delay-heavy guitars. There's a bit more of a hazy disco bounce to "Pagaia", which sounds a little like a long lost Tullio de Piscopo record - all jazz-fusion scat singing, sunny horns and shuffling rhythms.

Kalimba De Luna: Hear & Now Remix
Kalimba De Luna: Hear & Now Remix (hand-numbered 12" limited to 400 copies)
Cat: AR 021. Rel: 13 Sep 21

Balearic/Downtempo
Hear & Now (Land Of Sunshine remix) (8:27)
Hear & Now (original version) (5:07)
Hear & Now (Onda Nueva remix) (6:10)
Review: Tony Esposito originally released 'Kalimba De Luna' in 1984, and it went on to become a huge hit. Balearic before Balearic was a thing, the track features the perfect balance of smooth 80s musicality and balmy, wistful sentiment, proving so popular it would be covered by a huge swathe of artists including Boney M. Archeo are giving the release a proper reissue treatment, and they're shifting the focus of the record by handing the track over to production duo Here & Now. This more overtly escapist 'Land Of Sunshine' version strings the track out in a reverb soaked reverie, coming on positively new age in the face of the sprightly pop of the 1984 original. Then Here & Now's 'Onda Nueva' version closes proceedings out in a blissed-out cosmic stylee.

It contains 2 previously unreleased tracks from TONY ESPOSITO's Viaggio Tribale CD (2004): Dove c'e luce and Veronica song + A SPECIAL BALEARIC REMIX of Dove c'e luce from LucaEffeSunset + 3 previously unreleased tracks from the Lucan (Basilicata) musician Antonio Nicola Bruno CD (2004): Storia della terra mia and Danza e ridanza. Antonio Nicola Bruno - "Danza E Ridanza" (B version) (3:59)
Review: Archeo Recordings chart a course for the Balearics with this laid back delight of overlooked Italian island grooves. Tony Esposito is a long-serving singer-songwriter, and two tracks from his 2004 CD Viaggio Tribale get a vinyl cut here. "Dove C'e Luce" gets a special, 90s tinged remix from LucaEffeSunset. Antonio Nicola Bruno's "Storia Della Terra Mia" is the first of three unreleased tracks from this little known Lucan artist, striking a curious note with folk undertones and a sunny disposition. There's a more dramatic tone to "Danza E Ridanza," which takes on an almost Talking Heads-esque quality for the "B Version" that closes this high quality 12" from the ever reliable Archeo camp.
