Appelblim & Komon - "Motion Blur"
Komon & Appleblim - "Key Vision"
Komon - "Astir"
Appleblim - "Echo's Retreat"
Review: The West Country hook-up between Appleblim and Komon has been drawing heat since last year when the pair jumped on the Gas Jam / Silencio for the former's Apple Pips label. Since then they've been remixed by Prins Thomas and gravitated naturally towards Will Saul's Aus label. The turn of a New Year saw the pair enter Jupiter for Aus and now they are back on the label experiencing Motion Blur. Intriguingly the A Side features collaborations whilst the flip finds Appleblim and Komon dropping solo jams. The title track is a perfect slice of UK hybridism whilst seek out Appleblim's closing "Echo's Retreat" which descends into Bristol electro territory.

Stash (6:15)
Courtside Drama (5:35)
Rise (7:49)
The Game (4:59)
Review: Belfast lads done very good Bicep return with the Stash EP, their first full release of the year and it represents a triumphant return to Will Saul's Aus label with the. It's fair to say Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar ruled 2012, helping to pioneer a trend in backwards glancing house music across their various releases for Aus, Love Fever and their own Feel My Bicep label. So it makes for pleasant listening that Stash sees the duo expanding on their sound with four tracks more reflective of their personal tastes. The title track is full on peak time bliss which dovetails nicely with the glistening deepness of "Courtside Drama" and the chunk "Rise" which demonstrates a new found passion for infectious lead synth hooks. "The Game" offers a downtempo curveball, working in samples from HBO drama The Wire amidst a generally melancholic tone that owes more to Aphex Twin than Kerri Chandler.

Just (6:13)
Celeste (6:01)
Back 2 U (Tranz dub) (7:45)
Review: Belfast pair Bicep are smart operators. Having previously doffed a cap to both Italian house and classic New Jersey garage, recent releases have seen them play around with a variety of rhythmic patterns and more advanced musical elements. They're at it again here on their latest outing for Aus. Opener "Just" is pleasingly cheery, with simple but addictive electronic melodies and sweeping chords nestling above a head-nodding, hip-hop influenced groove. "Celeste" is undeniably Balearic, with sun-kissed pianos, dreamy pads and drifting vocal samples stretching out over delay-laden, African-influenced percussion. Finally, they return to their rush-inducing best on "Back 2 U (Tranz Dub)", a loving fusion of vintage progressive house builds, winding melodies and mid '90s beats.

Circles
NRG106
Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from Belfast boys Bicep, namely formidable dancefloor fare variously influenced by bumpin' US garage and vintage Italian house. This two-tracker for Aus is, though, a little different. For starters, lead cut "Circles" bites classic Detroit techno, adding woozy, picturesque electronic melodies to a typically in-your-face techno groove (check the relentless scymbals for proof of the track's Motor City credentials). "Track 2" is a deeper proposition, but no less fluid. Like its predecessor, it's more musically rich and enveloping than many of their tough, stripped-back productions. It's an intriguing new direction, and proves once and for all they're no "one trick" ponies.

Fools Mate (Sally C remix)
Review: Aus Music is now one of the elder statesmen of the underground after so many years of turning out fresh beats from fresh names. Taking charge of Will Saul's latest label drop is Glaswegian artist Big Miz. His opener 'Fools Mate' is an upbeat and lively tune with slinky bass and drums that are in constant upward motion. 'Still Deciding' (feat Washington) flips the script with a low slung groove that has swagger to spare, not least thanks to the vocals of Washington. There is still time for a raw drum workout in 'Earthly Delights', the lush melodies of 'Joey' and a pumping throwback house remix from Sally C.

Dim Sum (7:27)
Anna Love (7:48)
Purple (5:55)
Review: Breach first came to our attention back three or four years ago during the great 'post-dubstep' and 'future bass' boom, an explosion of ideas and musical freedom which has seen many of its artists go on to achieve great things across different corners of the electronic music sphere. Breach has kept true to his roots, the only major difference now being that his grooves are considerably more locked in a house tempo and not as loose or rattling. However, "Dim Sum" is still a track with a great personality, where a rigid percussion bundle makes up for the lack of a kick drum in its arrangement. On the flipside, "Anna Love" is the housier of the lot, a gorgeously full groove full of tribalism and soul, while "Purple" boasts the sort of UK street house that you wouldn't find elsewhere. In the game. Pure gold.

Review: Bwana aka Nathan Micay has already seen a release on Will Saul's Aus Music and his fluid, freeform house music returns with "Tengo", a melodic progressive house nugget that's both spacey and fit for any dancefloor. The same goes for "Drop Mechanism", an ethereal house stepper, while "Due West" goes in a lot harder with a vicious bundle of Power House drums punching and kicking their way across its chords. Effective floor bombs.

Aomame
Review: Under the name Bwana, Nathan Micay made something of a splash back in 2012 with a pair of 12"s for the Somethinksounds label that wedged him snugly amidst the bass music cognoscenti of the time; think pitched up RnB samples, fluttering melodies and unpredictable juke style rhythms. Evidently keen not to get pigeon-holed, the Toronto-based artist chose to withdraw from the spotlight and spend some time honing his productions and this first offering of 2014 suggests this was a most productive spell indeed. Issued by Will Saul's tireless Aus imprint, the Flute Dreams EP finds Bwana embracing straight up house forms and doing it very well indeed - the bassline that consumes the title track is destined to be heard in clubs for years to come. SMD make their Aus bow on a fine reinterpretation of the "Flute Dreams" which feels like the track has been pulled inside out and Bwana further covers himself in glory with the startlingly bright, broken house of "Aomame".

The Donna LP features some dusty classic house sounds of the deeper spectrum, as heard previously on her eponymous imprint, Uzuri or Perlon sporadically over the last 10 years and her great vocals which veer from spoken word, haunting/monotone to high pitched diva moves are a constant throughout. Highlights for us were the uplifting deep disco of "All I Do", the soulful deep funk on her cover of Prince's "Strange Relationship" or the emotive yet tough techno of "Move".

Review: For this expansive double-pack of reworks of tracks from Cassy's debut album, Donna, Will Saul has assembled an impressive cast of remixers. First out of the blocks is Marcel Dettmann, whose hypnotic, late night interpretation of "Move" fixes dubbed-out organ riffs to a bustling techno rhythm. Ron Bacardi's version of "All I Do" sounds like a cross between Twilo-era tribal house, and bumpin' old skool U.S garage, while Radio Slave is at his druggy, early morning best in stretching out "Keep Trying" (first on the club-friendly "Feel Raw" mix, and later on the K-hole embracing, pitched-down "100 Reasons Remix"). If that wasn't enough to set the pulse racing, there's also a brilliantly melodious and emotion-rich remix of "Feel" from Yoruba Soul.

Review: Berlin-based Cinthie certainly doesn't take herself too seriously and that shows in the music she makes. It is effortlessly emotive, accessible but high-quality house music that does everything right. She served up a superb DJ-Kicks mix this year and now lands on Aus with three fresh cuts that will bring the good times. 'Light A Fire' has great piano stabs over dusty beats, 'Keeping Strong' has a bit of old-school New Jersey swing and 'Everything' again layers well-crafted pianos over a sweeping beat to get those hands in the air.

Review: Labels were queueing up to release Cinthie's high-quality music last year. She kicked off that release spree with a tidy 12" on Aus Music, so it seems fitting that she's returned to Will Saul's label to put out her first EP of 2020. Opener "Bassline" is a deliciously loved-up and saucer-eyed chunk of warehouse-ready retro-futurism - all crusty lo-fi house beats, swelling chords, sweaty vocal snippets and Tuff City Kids-esque piano motifs. "No One Can Take You Away From Me" sees her switch to tactile, melodious and enveloping Italo-disco mode, before devoting the entire B-side to the sunset-ready warmth of "803 Meme Queen", a deliciously melodious affair that explores similar sonic territory to Orbital's rave-era deep house classic "Belfast".

Review: From her humble beginnings in the provincial city of Saarbrucken (at the French border) where she cut her teeth at Humpty Records, to a career transitioning move to Berlin where she has been a fixture at local institutions like the legendary Stattbad, Elevate Records (which she runs) and heading up imprints such as 803 Chrystal Grooves, Beste Modus, and Unison Wax - Cinthie Cristl now celebrates another milestone with her debut album on London's Aus Music. 'Skylines - City Lights' features a fine selection of moods and grooves that showcase her love for straight-up and purist house music. Tracks like the aptly titled "Houze Muzik" pretty much say it all, while the swing-fuelled "Concentration" and it's dusty lo-fi aesthetic, or the spiritual and life-affirming vibes of "Horizon" right through to the early '90s style garage of vocal-led cut "Calling" (feat Gilli.jpg) all-in-all make for a poignant and respectful tribute to the genre.

Review: Surprisingly, this is the first time Aus Music boss Will Saul has released on the label under his Close moniker, following the eclectic wooziness of his Getting Closer full-length for !K7. It's a bit of an all-star affair, with Second Storey (AKA old pal Al Tourettes) and vocalist Kid A coming along for the ride. While the bonus cuts explore familiar bouncy, off-kilter, heavily electronic house and techno territory, the real killer is "No Love Lost" - a Nicolette style post trip-hop jam which places Kid A's vocal atop heavy post-punk bass, dark textures and jazz-flecked, near jungle tempo rhythms. Man of the moment Seven Davis Junior provides a superb remix, too, re-casting the original as a two-step influenced chunk of loopy deep house.

I Remember
Review: Self-proclaimed sub-aquatic acid house producer, Cottam, has found his production time being replaced with nappy changing of late, but has thankfully managed to record this new EP. It's a good thing too as "Relapse" is sumptuously deep, with haunting synthscapes and subtle percussion. The tune is also remixed by Cosmin who lets it fly as a psychedelic trance bird in the sky. Back to Cottam though, whose "I Remember", is a really cool and nasty houser with attitude. Good stuff!

Deep Deep Down (Vakula remix)
Twang
Review: A masterful debut on the Aus imprint for Preston's favourite son Cottam, with Deep Deep Down continuing the lineage of thick set mid tempo acid explorations last seen on his Use Of Weapons twelve inch. Sprawling luxuriously across the length of the A Side, the title track builds effortlessly from the spacious grooves and alien chug of the opening moments into a sumptuous array of floating sax, twisting acid lines and forever floating pads. "Deep Deep Down" is a finely judged nine minutes of techno paced at slo mo house speed, and Aus have chosen wisely in the remix department. Step forward Vakula, whose remix is drastically shorter but filled to the brim with the kind of production eccentricities you'd expect from the Ukrainian, completely realigning the feel of the track despite retaining some core elements. Cottam completes this excellent 12" with the quite aptly named "Twang", a seven minute boogie burner that should be viewed as an updated take on the self released twelves upon which he came to fame.

Review: Racking up 50 releases in just over seven years in no mean feat, and Will Saul's Aus Music celebrate the landmark in requisite fashion with a one side transmission from Deetron. As a label Aus command a powerful reputation and it's got there by operating as a platform for emergent artists like Midland, Dusky and Joy O as well as an outlet for established names in SCB and Lee Jones. Deetron of course belongs in the latter category and "Count On Me" is a perfect example of his current oeuvre, inherently warm and soulfully intoxicating in sound and drive forth by crisp, techy upward momentum.

Review: Having made his Aus debut last year, restless producer Tom Demac makes his return to Will Saul's ever-dependable stable of talent with Linda's Theme. The title track is a raucous combination of raw, off-kilter drums and resonant 303 bass in the Gerry Read mould, characterised by its bold sample which sounds like it was ripped from a lost psychedelic 7" from the 1960s. "Vocoder's Revenge" is a little more what we'd expect from the producer, combining deep, sleazy sub bass and the titular vocoder which sounds like a codeine addled Daft Punk, while "Days with Poly" starts out as a stern tech house bumper before travelling into more emotive territory thanks to its soulful female vocal and warm pads. For peak time house fare, you'll find little better this month, that's for sure.

Review: In recent years, Detroit Swindle's outings away from their own Heist Recordings imprint have been few and far between, so it's nice to see them popping up on Will Saul's Aus Music imprint. He's done a good job A&R-wise, with all three tracks hitting the expected highs. The Dutch duo are in fine form with "Wado Baya", a rubbery chunk of hot-stepping Afro-house where bleeping electronic melodies and glassy-eyed chords rise above a snappy-but-bouncy groove. "Rhythm Girl Swing" sounds like a slipped and slightly skewed take on hypnotic mid-90s house - all trippy riffs and slowly rising filtered motifs - while "Vibrations" sees them join the dots between warm and woozy early '90s deep house and organ-rich New Jersey flavours.

Pumping acid house merges into dubbed-out dreams, with an emphasis on 16-note fills and 2-step breaks ruling the mix stews that make up 'Repeater' and 'Nobody'. Meanwhile, needing no introduction, DJ Seinfeld brings up the rear with a remix of the A1, with a creative flair that could only mark his own unmistakable territory; extra space, boxy kicks, hazed-out chords. This one renders us permanently nocturnal.

Words Later On
Review: After their breakthrough year in 2012, Dusky just keep on nailing the chunky deep house zeitgeist well into 2013. Returning to one of their key outposts, Aus, they bring yet more of that slick and peppy floor fodder, deft touches of vocal and rich melodics still very much present. "Careless" takes the gentle approach, keeping an open-topped quality to the production that sits well with the emotive vocal turns. "Rise For Love" flips the script with a claustrophobic growler fashioned with murky basements in mind, all menacing basslines and abrasive percussive hits, while "Esperanto Juggler" continues this foray into tense moods, albeit in a more stacatto way than its bouncy predecessor. "Words Later On" plies a different trade to the other tracks as it dips its toe into electro construction, even if it still comes off as an unmistakably Dusky sounding track.

Review: Dusky have come far in quite a short space with their modern house music interpretations and make quite a decisive move with a high profile transfer from Simple Records to Aus Music. This is still prime, slickly executed house music but with a healthy amount of bass woven into the mix, not least on the fearsome "Alone". A meaty sub line pulses out under the crisp 4/4 while interludes of found-sound percussion come darting in amongst snippets of vocal for a surefire banger. "Dummy" likewise flexes its brawn with pride, from the snappy beat to the punchy bassline, even as the synth elements are intent on sending the track into more spaced-out places

Review: Next up on Will Saul's tech house powerhouse is the return of NYC by way of New Haven maestro Drew Lustman aka FaltyDL with some energised modern hi-NRG vibes on "Wondering Mind". With its diva vocals, euphoric arpeggios and energised rhythms all working together for perfect dancefloor drama. Next up, the cleverly titled "Paradox Garage" goes for more reverse looking aesthetics on this evocative acid house tribute, awash in grainy lo-fi aesthetics, bumpy bass and jacked vocals on something reminiscent of classic 808 State. Finally on the flip, we have "I'm Missin You" which is also presented in a brazenly retro aesthetic with its grainy and saturated tape quality. Complete with Jamie Principle style vocals, disco guitar licks and all round neon-lit aesthetic which takes you back to the legendary Windy City days of Trax Records and WBMX Hot Mix radio late night sessions.

Child Remixes EP

Deep House
Child (Geeeman rework)
Child (NY Stomp remix)
Review: George Fitzgerald's all conquering "Child" gets the remix treatment on this essential 12" from the Aus stable. Obviously impressing Will Saul with this year's similarly thumping "Bang't", he has enlisted the services of Geeeman aka Gerd to rework the track. Taking only the vocal, he works his revivalist Chicago jack magic, with bone dry 909 rhythms, a rock solid bassline and expectedly tongue in cheek feel brought by some Green Velvet inspired synth freakery. Meanwhile, the NY Stomp remix walks the same path as the similar NY/Jersey house revivals of late, giving Bicep a run for their money in terms of muscular rhythmic flex and hands in the air chords.

Silhouette EP

Silhouette (John Roberts remix)
Reset
Review: Aus add the supreme talents of Londoner George FitzGerald to their already impressive roster of artists, and the Silhouette EP betrays further evidence of the young producer's gift for modern house centric sounds. Anyone who checked Fitzgerald's two impressive drops for Hotflush will be all over this release as the title track fully demonstrates his talent for merging elements of hypnotic house and swinging 2-step and flushing them with his trademark pitched vocals. Given the warm reception afforded to John Roberts album last year, the Dial man was a smart choice for remix duties but you couldn't imagine the results if you tried. Stripping the track of its warm melodic excesses Roberts transforms it into a stuttering, fractured mass of heaving industrial psychedelia which is without comparison. On the flip FitzGerald swerves proceedings back towards a sense of danceability with the epic, sweeping Detroit meets Hackney Wick rhythms of "Reset".

Review: Somewhat surprisingly, Floorplan's third album is not coming out on the M-Plant label established by founder Robert Hood, but rather Will Saul's Aus Music imprint. Either way, it's Hood and daughter Lyric's first Floorplan LP for three years and is full of spot-on techno treats. Those familiar with their style should know what to expect: big room ready loop jams that make extensive use of short, soulful samples, cheery electronics and lots of gospel influences. Highlights include the rubbery deep house/disco/techno fusion of "Oasis", the Terrence Parker style piano rush of "Brothers & Sisters", the stomping gospel techno insanity of "Song Like This!" (the album's standout moment) and the deeper, bluesy techno hypnotism of "I Try".

Review: Detroit techno pioneer Robert Hood makes a surprising appearance on Will Saul's Aus Music this Winter, with a full length album under his funky disco/gospel referencing Floorplan alias - which he now operates in collaboration with his daughter Lyric. This two track belter features "Fiyaaaa!" which is the first single taken from their new LP and is a powerfully restrained effort, fuelled by the duo's penchant for hypnotic stabs, hands-in-the-air church organs and roaring diva vocals. On the flip, get ready for a divine moment of truth on the uplifting vocal house anthem that is "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" featuring the golden voice of one Carol Otis. Preach!
