Rituals Of Resistance
Rituals Of Resistance (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BAS 006. Rel: 24 Sep 18
  1. Rituals (9:15)
  2. Rituals (Zesknel remix) (6:57)
  3. Resistance (8:59)
Review: It's been a long time since Dadub released anything - the core of their output came via Stroboscopic Artefacts between 2011 and 2013. Now after a hiatus, they make a powerful return with this release for the label of Georgia's most infamous nightclub, Bassiani. They're not pulling any punches on this record, coming down heavy on "Rituals" with a dense, layered approach as edgy and experimental as it is propulsive. Zesknel's remix of the track goes in heavy too, although more in terms of erratic sound design rather than punishing techno rhythms. Check out "Resistance" on the flip to hear Dadub in full flight with spacious dub processing and rave samples over a stomping percussive undercarriage that begs to be played out in a smoke filled room.

The Nature Of Your Oppression Is The Aesthetic Of Our Anger
  1. Uniforms (4:40)
  2. No Prayers Will Help You Here (5:53)
  3. Daddy Issues (6:15)
  4. Spraypaint (5:55)
Review: Uncompromising Scandinavian trio The Empire Line present the ninth release for Georgian imprint Bassiani. Comprised of Swedish techno rebel Varg and Danes Christian Stadsgaard (Posh Isolation) and Isak Hansen on vocals, they are known for powerful live performances and these four abrasive tracks capture that distinct energy of their club sets. The confrontational opening track "Uniforms" is somewhat reminiscent of '90s electro-industrial, while the doomsday rave anthem "No Prayers Will Help You Here" soon signals the peak time, followed by the extreme noise terror of "Daddy Issues" and coming to an epic climax with the relentless body basher "Spraypaint". Not for the faint of heart - play it loud!

  10. Nabolara (8:21)
Review: After the stunning Ostati album released on Organic Analogue last year, Georgia's HVL is back with a new album on the label for his home turf, Bassiani. As a resident of the infamous Tbilisi club, he knows innately how to communicate the vibe of one of the world's most widely discussed techno clubs, only this time he's taken a slightly tougher stance. "Eyes In The Sky" has a fierce, paranoid acid edge, while "F12 (Korg Patch Mix)" gets into freaky, cerebral techno territory. There are intriguing interludes and skits, and plenty more dancefloor heaters delivered with an inventiveness that once again affirms HVL's status as one of the brightest talents operating in the loosely defined field of deep techno.

Green Is The New Red
Cat: BASLP 003. Rel: 08 Apr 20
  1. Hope In The Dark (3:07)
  2. Green Is The New Red (8:21)
  3. The Doughnut Is Our Safe Space (6:48)
  4. Shifting The Overton Window (5:52)
  5. A Call For Civil Disobedience (6:00)
  6. Change Starts On The Fringes (3:35)
  7. Fridays For Future (4:57)
  8. Ego Versus Eco (6:29)
  9. Utopia For Realists (6:50)
Review: Although he's continued to offer up 12" singles at a steady rate, "Green Is The New Red" is still Tripeo's first album for six years. Featuring nine tracks spread across two slabs of wax, the set sees the experienced techno producer sashay between throbbing modular soundscapes (see the rhythmic but beat-free "Hope In The Dark"), layered deep house drowsiness (the fine title track), melodious deep space electro ("The Doughnut Is Our Safe Space"), Terrence Parker style organ-fired Detroit techno ("Shifting The Overton Window") and a handful of arpeggio-fired workouts tend towards the starry and glassy-eyed. It's a really strong collection of cuts, with enough variety to keep you entertained throughout.

Food For Thought (HVL mix)
Food For Thought (HVL mix) (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BAS 007. Rel: 11 Feb 19
  1. Food For Thought (6:14)
  2. Resist (6:00)
  3. Tuesday Blues (8:11)
  4. Tuesday Blues (HVL Wreckage) (6:00)
Review: Traditionally, Darko Esser's outings as Tripeo have tended towards the hypnotic and trance inducing. It's notable, then, that his latest EP - the first Tripeo 12-inch for 18 months - mixes things up a little. "Food For Thought", for example, fixes melancholic, Convextion style musicality to crunchy, EBM-influenced techno drums, while the fuzzy, dirt-encrusted "Resist" sees the producer give deep electro an angular, lo-fi makeover. "Tuesday Blues", meanwhile, sees him stack layer upon layer of positive electronic melodies atop rubbery, Afro-house influenced techno drums before Bassiani/Horoom resident HVL rounds things off with his skittish, breakbeat-powered revision of "Food For Thought", which sounds like a giddy blast from the past despite the poignant nature of Esser's melodies.
