Ceci N'Est Pas Un Cliche (3:47)
Review: Belgian DJ duo 2ManyDJs make their music under the Soulwax alias. Whenever they do, it is arresting, seriously quality stuff. For this one the multi-genre mash up artists look to remix 'Cliche' by Charlotte Adigery and Bolis Pupul for the French label Because Music. Their first version is a typically textured, raw, ravey indie-techno workout with rugged beats and sleazy vocals lit up by bright strobes. After the instrumental comes 'Ceci N'Est Pas Un Cliche' which is a macho disco stomper with sliding hi hats and low-slung bass.

Make You Mine
Baby I'm Yours (La Funk Mob remix)
Review: 2010 looks like it's going to be a very big year for Parisian producer Thibault Berland aka Breakbot. As part of the Ed Banger family he's been producing a steady slew of quality remixes for Metronomy, Justice, Sebastian Tellier and Late Of The Pier, and now he's stepping up with excellent new material of his own.

In the vein of seriously smooth late 70's rockers like Hall and Oates and Michael McDonald, the title track has tons of charm courtesy of a vocal from Irframe. Add to that the modern production of Holy Ghost or Discovery-era Daft Punk and it's a pretty special disco-flavoured slice of sophisticated French pop.

Another man who's becoming hot property for 2010 is German producer Siriusmo, who turns in a remix that matches Breakbot's sense of retro fun and studio mastery. Far from Siriusmo's more Techno roots, this mix is almost a Psychedelic rock song, complete with cowbells and chiming 12-string guitars. It's weird and wonderful, and has more than a nod to Archie Bell and The Drells' seminal "Tighten Up".

One Out Of Two (Get A Room! remix)
Review: Ed Banger favourite and electro-synth-pop demi-god, Breakbot saw his "One Out Of Two" track remixed by a healthy squadron of electronic artist this year. First up it was Oliver, who painted a fascinating disco-not-disco portrait of the original. Sneak Dream went all ape shit on everyone, forming a solid and tenacious tech house groove with a thumping good kick! There's also the original of "Programe" included here, a summery pop track with subtle hints of electro; and finally, Get A Room plant a serious electro bomb, one that explodes and releases its ferocious synth on yo ass...!

Review: More gossamer smooth disco electro soul from Ed Banger's biggest lothario, "You Should Know" is a steamy mid tempo number that's just as rich in emotion as it is groove. As with all Breakbot numbers, there's a wealth of remixes to complement its romantic tendencies... Busy P and Boston Bun get all jacking and loopy, Homework Le Bain throw down a classic NY piano house version, The Swiss gets all rainbow Italo and Le Family serve up a slippery synth bass groove over some classic US garage beats. An impeccable package here... You should know this!

Review: By now, we're not sure how battered up this robot can get; French electro-balearic duo Breakbot are back with their first single of the year, hitting up regular collaborator Irfane for a four-track EP modeled around our own vices. Plodding downtempo and achy, breaky heart-strings are tugged as we take our daily dose of 'Remedy', while electric bossa nova and cinematic strings help us see 'The Light'. A subdued new EP spelling exciting things to come from the mainstays.

Cult French hip-hop producer with no boundaries (something like a French equivalent of DJ Premier or Pharrell Williams), Mehdi will release his second solo album "Lucky Boy" before the summer. In the meantime, please enjoy his comeback single "I Am Somebody", a hybrid electro-hip-pop affair with the voice of fellow Canadian gangsta-poppers Chromeo. Review: Sweet psychedelic pop vibes abound as Django Django unleash another fine ditty from their eponymous album. Quite whether they've just misspelt a comet name, or they just love dancing in hard, icy rain we don't know... But we love all versions on this release. The very much in-demand Daniel Avery gets all slo-mo acid on our jackseys while Jealov takes us into some very strange, warped electronica pastures with a Radioheadalicious rub. The band themselves get involved with their own cheeky, not to mention stomping, alternative "Bail Hop" while Bullion completes the package with his own beautiful take that will please all cosmic fans.

Drumforms
Review: East London troupe Django Django return with a shiny new single in the shape of "Waveforms" via the Because Music imprint, which comes replete in shiny new artwork (if you have five minutes to spare we urge you to check out the band's new website which has an interactive smiley face icon which is quite hypnotic). "Waveforms" itself is also quite hypnotic, steadily unfurling into the kind of tribal grooves the band has become renowned for, whilst indulging in some multiple harmony tactics. Wild Geese, a collective with fingers in many an industry pie, turn in a remix every bit as lysergic and potent as their famed revision of Friendly Fires, though on much more of a proto warehouse rave stabathon tip. Check the flip for a percussion heavy take on the track by the double D's themselves in the shape of "Drumforms".

Our Futur (Loud disco mix)
Review: Laurent Garnier began the LBS (Live Booth Sessions or Loud Bass & Samples) concept in 2010, as a means of experimenting with live techniques. The crew incorporates Garnier himself, as well as Benjamin Rippert on keyboards and Scan X on machines. The Timeless EP begins with "Jacques In The Box" delivering a full-impact slice of techno sprinkled with surging synthesisers and climbing polyphonic key strokes. The percussion seems to melt into one element as the kick drum drives this fast, hard and slightly euphoric techno jam. Loud Disco's mix of "Our Futur" will surely capture the ears of any large crowd caught in the reverie of a darkened nightclub, with a notable chord progression and sharp, saturated snare drum.

Review: When a Versatile artist is involved in something, somewhere, we hone in on it like a missile. Thankfully, Tigersushi boss Joakim has provided us with the usual dosage of gasoline for our listening engines and once again, the Frenchman has not disappointed us. Making his debut for his native Because Music, "On The Beach" sees the man in a slightly contemplative mood, delivering a pensive, vocoder-driven percussion workout - a true listening pleasure. CFCF inject a heftier dose of organic drumming to the equation, whilst Joakim's own Cray76 re-wiring opts for the all-out house flair, making this one a sure winner on the floor! But don't worry, Principles Of Geometry are there to rapidly re-form the track into a broken, totally wacked-out fusion of samples and eerie atmospherics. Dig in!

Review: Voted the most air-guitar inciting track from their album Audio Video Disco, "New Lands" got the treatment from Falcon, A Trak and SebastiAn. While none of the takes require anywhere near as much air instrument frivolity, they all add a lot more dancefloor welly. Falcon goes for the rolling, filtered French funk approach, A Trak opts for an more abrasive, angular electro cut while Sebastian adds some much needed drama by opening with a long half step entry before breaking into the groove mid way. And there's a live version too! Very nice.

Review:  More than 18 months after their Audio, Video, Disco LP dropped, Justice's "Helix" finally gets a single release. It's a typical chunk of goodtime disco-stomp, like Daft Punk without the filter-heavy swing, or Cassius trying to rave in ill-fitting straightjackets. Remix-wise, Gesafellstein turns it into a crunchy electro banger - all heavy drum programming, cut-up yelps and murky riffs - while Parisian veteran Domenico Torti (once Dimitri From Paris's go-to "edit guy") cuts it up impressively, adding a dose of fuzzy funk to proceedings. For the heads, there are also two more downtempo bonus cuts, of which the effortlessly sweet "Ohio" is the pick.

Review: You have to have balls to name your new single "DANCE", and in caps would you believe! But you can when you're called Justice and in all but three years have revolutionised dancefloors with tracks such as "We Are Your Friends" and "Waters Of Nazareth" as well as remixing Franz Ferdinand and Britney Spears with the same cheekiness. Imagine the audacity of fusing, in less than five minutes, the entire history of dance music: from the sexual liberation of seventies disco to the gimmicky black funk of Chic, from dark eighties house to the ecstatic electro which lit up nineties raves, not forgetting Daft Punk's French touch. The result would be "Dance".

Next up for the label is Electronic pop duo from the Netherlands Klyne, who deliver the explosive bass driven R&B jam "Don't Stop" featuring super cool vocals reminiscent of Prince. Review: Canadian minimal veteran Tomas Jirku has been a little quiet of late, but now he makes a welcome and unexpected return with something quite different for Silent Season. You can hear echoes of his earlier work in the soundscapes he's sculpted across Touching The Sublime, as high-definition sonic manipulation draws on his experience and eye for detail in wielding music technology, but rather than creating pointillist rhythmic structures, he's more concerned with billowing clouds of ambience. It's easy to draw parallels with the likes of Tim Hecker, but there's space for more techno-oriented productions in the midst of the maelstrom. Epic in scope and powerfully rendered, this is an album that will feed your head for a long time to come.

Polocaust
Review: Ahead of Mr Oizo's film Rubber which of course depicts the homicidal rampage of a tyre blessed with psychokinetic powers, Ed Banger drop this classily demented taste of the soundtrack composed by Oizo with some help from Justice's Gaspard Auge. The title track is familiar Oizo territory, a snatch of spaghetti western atmospherics looped up before the drop into scratched and looped bleeptronics and ADD vocal repetition. The track finds its legs when the Justice style bass patterns take centre stage. Flying Lotus might seem like an obscure choice to remix the track but the Brainfeeder don does a superlative job, dropping in mutant synth lines and spaced out textures to give the track a totally different direction. On the flip "Tricycle Express" is the sort of escalading synth monster that always appear on an Ed Banger b side whilst "Polocaust" is a study in baroque melody which no doubt soundtracks a grisly scene involving chickens.

The club edit allows the hands in the air chords and easy to sing to choruses soar over warm drums, while Bullion goes for something more deep and pensive. The Wuh Oh is a real main stage festival anthem with its inebriated drum stomps and Radio Slave & Thomas Gandey bring some class with their piano laced, heartfelt and joyous rework - not what you would normally expect from the Rekids boss. Sam Tiba closes out with a flurry of jungle drums and breaks to twist mind, body and soul.

The album version is first up, its day-glo melodies and happy whistle sounds still sounding fresh. Gaspard Auge & Victor Le Masne Removing Men remix first and come up with a more pumping and festival friendly version while Metronomy bring their own sense of indie-troncia cool. Bob Sinclair then goes for a straight up dance version that tweaks the original only subtly and Panteros666 goes big and hard.

It's been almost 6 months & since then, Sebastian dropped a dozen remixes. Uffie, Kelis, Daft Punk, Mylo, Editors, Kavinsky and more got the Sebastian treatment. Cryptic Motion (Mr Oizo remix)
Review: The recent news that Warp stalwart and electronic wizard Squarepusher would be debuting his new Shobaleader One project on Ed Banger was met with quizzical looks by most. Yet this is not the first time Ed Banger has flirted with Warp Records, with both imprints co-curating a WARP-ED night in Paris last year. Furthermore, Ed Banger boss Busy P recently claimed this release, which contains a remix from Mr Oizo, was "my dream come true, two worlds, one release." So how does the music sound? "Cryptic Motion" leans heavily on vintage electro funk aesthetics with typically Gallic undertones such as robot vocoder. If your brain can depict DMX Crew being remixed by Daft Punk then you have an idea of how "Cryptic Motion" plays out. On the flip, Mr Oizo focuses on the bassline, adding some pace to the groove which is subjected to typically unique editing. Somehow a bastard acid line gets dropped in and pulled in several directions simultaneous for a sinuous finish to one of Oizo's more intriguing productions of recent times. With Warp having just announced details of a forthcoming nine track mini album from Shobaleader One, it will be intriguing to see where Jenkinson takes this sound.
