Review: Long time Berlin favourite Ellen Allien has always embodied the spirit of her hometown, no matter what particular corner of the techno world she has operated in. From big warehouse bangers to more artful and pop leading electronic sounds, she is always on the move, but aways true. Aura, her latest full length, touches on a wide range of sounds - from vocal laced mind melting acid on "In Music I Trust" to the intense loops of "Traum" via high speed industrial techno funk of "Confusion". This is a far ranging album with a black heart that suggests our future is uncertain.

Your Decisions Come From Fear (5:49)
Our Light In Momentary Troubles (5:58)
Bleep Test (Tool mix) (5:45)
Review: The seemingly ever-present underground stalwart that is Ellen Allien's Bpitch Control welcomes Berlin-based artist ASEC for a new EP that is inspired by "the indecision, the fear and the finality of making difficult choices. Heavy stuff for sure, and opener 'Crossing The Rubicon' sure is a dark and moody piece but also utterly danceable. The title track has a blunt, powerful kick and whirring machine percussion then 'Our Light In Momentary Troubles' gets a little more dubby, with fat bass and chunky drums. Last of all is 'Bleep Test (Tool Mix)' which is a brain-boggling and loopy techno cut with fizzing synth textures.

Gigantia (5:38)
Review: Turin-based duo Boston 168 show some superb sound design skills here on a new EP for BPitch Control that builds on the first three they've already dropped here. This time out they explore a more cavernous industrial sound and fill it with vivid psychedelic trips that will warp space and time when played loud in the right club. 'Gigantia' is the standout - a pulling trance-techno fusion with hard-assed drums and wall-rattling bass that will blow any crowd away and take them into the next dimension. Another potent outing for this essential partnership.

Ape Shit Crazy (6:05)
FreizeitAktivitat (5:33)
WiederGutMachung (5:57)
Review: Keith Carnal returns to Bpitch Control with a three-track EP, showing off his more sinister, robotic and factory-floor filling side. 'Ape Shit Crazy' is counter-intuitive, because it sounds anything but primitive, leaning almost entirely into the sonically metallurgic, electronic, and cybernetic. Nothing here is organic, all is synthetic - standout tracks such as 'WiederGutMachung' - trancey, gated and clean - are as pristine as a freshly disinfected space station. It's if an AI primed for making everything as clean and hygienic as possible has deviated from its original program script, gained murderous sentience, and started making music instead.

I Love It In My Acid (5:46)
I Fucking Love Berlin (5:12)
Review: Ellen Alien's BPitch Control label has been at the heart of underground Berlin club culture since forever. This new 12" is something of a different sound than you might expect: it comes from Detroit selector, producer and Pure Sonik Records owner DJ T-1000 who brings some hardcore sounds to four fierce cuts. 'Clitfuck' is a big old wall of sound, 'Think You Can Handle It ' pairs hamming kick with squelchy synth motifs and 'I Love It In My Acid' is a throwback rave tune that will take you to the heart of a strobe-lit dance floor in an instant. 'I Fucking Love Berlin' rounds out with peak time energy to spare.

Review: There's a decidedly rushing, saucer-eyed feel to Ellen Allien's latest album, her eighth since launching the BPitch Control label at the dawn of the century. The Berlin veteran shows no desire to soften her sound or move away from the dancefloor, delivering an eight-track set that giddily charges between neo-trance (the loved-up "Empathy" and tech-trance throb-job "Free Society"), post-dubstep electro (the swirling "MDMA" and atmospheric "Exit To Humanity"), raging acid ("Bowie In Harmony"), decidedly muscular techno (the arpeggio-driven heaviness of acid fired smasher "Love Distortion" and the creepier "Electronic Joy") and bubbly acid electro (superb closing cut "Stimulation").

Lism
Review: LISm, Ellen Allien's seventh full-length, is a curious beast. Co-produced by fellow Berlin producer Bruno Pronsato, it takes the form of a single, 45-minute track and is apparently based on the soundtrack she wrote with Thomas Mulker for the Drama per Musicadance performance at the Pompidou Centre, Paris, in 2011. The 30-second clip available here doesn't do the undulating music justice; in the space of 45 minutes, it groggily stumbles between crystalline electronica, horror-inspired moodiness, droning ambience, neo-classic piano compositions and half-vocal oddness. As atmospheric as an off-kilter soundtrack should be, it's Allien's most interesting and involving work for some time.

Review: Ellen's third studio album follows hot on the heels of the pre album taster 'Magma' and we dare say is even bigger than the mighty 'Berlinette'. Co-produced with Smash TV's Holger Zielske (her partner on the previous albums 'Stadtkind' and 'Berlinette') 'Thrills' sees Ellen combining some newfound vintage synth gear with more modern electronics that give these tracks a more devastating dancefloor punch than ever before, coupled with her trademark vocals and bass, bass everywhere. Review: After "Turbo Dreams" and "Way Out" now there is "Jet Remixes" - the third maxi single from Ellen Allien & Apparat's album "Orchestra of Bubbles". The first remix comes from Ben Klock who seems to be in a work flow. After his 2 Memo releases, he released his EP "Big Time" on Bpitch Control. Where beat and melody are twisted equally in the original version, Ben puts the melody as a facet in the background and concentrates more on the beat. Dark sound in the great Ben Klock style!

Review: Berlin scene stalwart Ellen Allien has gone back to her early rave and harder techno roots in recent years. The label head, DJ and producer was there at the start of such scenes back in the early 90s and now there is a revival for that stuff she is best placed to do it with real authority. For this one she joins forces with Italian synth wave band Ash Code to cook up three tracks where Napoli meet Berlin, cold wave collides with techno and fresh new dancefloor magic happens. It's a dynamic sound world with jacked up drums, moody synths and icy vocals all arresting your every sense.

Fluctuacion Paralela (4:33)
Acid & Die (5:20)
Review: Ellen Allien's label BPitch is one of Europe's finest and surely one of the most prominent labels to be headed up by any of the women in the scene. It is Gotshell behind this last 12" on the Berlin mainstay with four cuts of dark, artful techno from the Columbian that mark a welcome return to the label. He navigates between chaos and tranquility, blending disparate sonic elements seamlessly across the tracks starting with 'Forest,' which kicks off with misty dissonances and psychedelic pads over a driving kick drum. 'Who I Am' ventures into dubstep territory with echoey vocals and airy synths. 'Fluctuacion Paralela' delves into ambient realms, while 'Acid and Die' explores harsh acid coils. Sintaxis showcases Gotshell's unique aesthetic expertly.

Review: "Reworks" is the new album of Paul Kalkbrenner that will enlighten us in October. It's not a regular artist album but a project that Paul has been planning for a year now. He asked some of his friends, whom he also very much appreciates musically, for remixes. Paul opened his treasure box and everyone could pick the track he/she likes most and play around with it. The result is a great remix album, that you will just have to wait for until October!

Similarity
Review: Dark seasons are coming closer - Ben makes them sound like dark clouds of an approaching thunder storm. But in order
not to get too frozen, he also delivers the remedy: forcing you onto the dancefloor until sweat drops down your forehead.
Matching the title, 'October', Ben Klock's track on the a-side is not only one for dark, cold and rainy days: a groovy beat
pounds constantly for the full length of nine minutes, until the hihats come in and give the track its cherry on the cake that
will make every dancefloor boil over. Depths direct a marching rhythm. Again, everything done right. We are already looking
forward to get to know how Ben will experience the rest of the eleven months of the year. The flipside of this 12" is a surprise,
'Similarity' alludes to a similarity that's just not to be found. The bassline purls slowly as an intro to the seven minute tune. The
hihat pushes everything forward and forward. This track is a must on every MP3 player while going downhill on icy slopes -
high-speed of course. And while having a warm-up drink, or before, or after.

Invite Me To Your Country (Ellen Allien remix) (5:04)
Review: They don't come much more Berlin than Ellen Allien. The long-time clubber, DJ, fashionista and producer has been at the heart of the city's scene just about since beaver was even a scene. She steps out here with a couple of great remixes of tunes by Lebanon Hangover that show off a darker side, with nods to early heavy German techno as well as EBM. Her super take on 'Living On The Edge' has stomping kicks and trance chords that will energise and light up any club, and 'Invite Me To Your Country' (Ellen Allien remix) is like a powerhouse Depeche Mode rework.

Review: Ellen Allien's BPitch Control is one of Berlin's finest and it has been for years. That said, you feel that right now it is in a particularly purple vein of form with a return to its rave roots. Matasism is next up to take the baton and does so with a real vengeance. 'Can You Feel My Soul (remake)' opens up with a lashing of bright trance synths flashing over tough beats. The original is even more hard-edged and then 'Age Of Fantasy' is another one with euphoric overtones and hefty melodic chords. Closer 'Space Invaders' is the most textural techno of the lot. High impact for sure.

Review: New York City by-way-of Rome's Matasism follows up on the success of his acclaimed 2022 BPitch debut, with a scorching collection of four deep underground rave tracks titled 'The Music Is Control Of Your Acid Mind'. It's no surprise that he finds a home on BPitch; the ascendant producer caught the attention of label boss Ellen Allien, who was a major supporter of his early tracks and who shared a mutual passion for the true underground. Sonically, Matasism's music resides on the edgier side of the spectrum, seamlessly merging elements of trance, industrial, techno and EBM, thereby pushing boundaries and venturing into uncharted sonic territories on this stellar release.

Review: Hector Sandoval has achieved much over ten years of releasing, gracing labels like Soma, Modular, Kynant and Arts alongside his own self-titled imprint, but now it's time for him to connect with the mighty B Pitch Control. The New Land Order more than matches the sense of occasion, finding Sandoval in especially urgent mood and matching stadium-sized techno pressure with an abundance of inventive hooks. 'Misandei' has a punchy, electro tint to the synth work, while 'Mors Tua' whips up a nightmarish loop and fires off precision-tooled industrial clangs and crashes. 'Jugoplastika' is a similarly fiery eruption of dark-side synth riffs, and then 'Kodex' chills the scene with a snaking slice of dystopian electro.

'Xilo' is an adventurous main room workout that sets the scene perfectly before the direct execution of 'Efien' a slamming tribal techno tool mixed with gnarly acid squelch. Review: Rumour has it that this compilation of brand new, previously unreleased material from the BPitch Control roster hints at a new direction for the long-established, Berlin-based imprint. Certainly, there's less straight-up dancefloor material and far more material of a fuzzy, warm, leftfield bent. In fact, whisper it quietly, but the majority of Where The Wind Blows could conceivably be described as pop - or at least real songs. It's all suitably atmospheric and wonky, with highlights including Jahcoozi's emo-hop jam "Rainbows", Carnea's touchy-feely beauty "Love On The Balcony" and Apparat's crystalline "Borodino".

It has done everything from art school tech to gritty house to more punchy techno in its long history and now this fifth volume of its long-running We Are Not Alone series gives us another snapshot of where it is at in 2023. The list of artists included speaks to Ellen's dedication to unearthing interesting producers rather than relying simply on tried and tested big names like many other labels of this age. The sounds, too, are as innovative as they explore a range of techno moods and grooves to impactful effect. Kudos all around for this one.
