Twilight Expanse (Radioactive Man remix) (7:40)
Twilight Expanse (Voicedrone remix) (5:20)
Review: Twilight Expanse is the latest reissued EP from New York producer Ebeats, who originally released this great breaksy classic in the early noughties. A crude minimalist exploration in breaks and dub effects, we've got the ultra-wally zoner 'Helion', which is like a hyper-compressed version of an ambient Aphex perambulator, and the comparatively jazzy and surreal 'Twilight Expanse'. On the B also come remixes by Radioactive Man and Voicedrone, which are far less playful, but make up for it with a modern heat which still respects the original's direction.

TTTRT (8:19)

AJ025 (7:39)
Review: Eliaz is emerging out of the Slovenian underground with his debut EP on Cartulis Music, swiftly following up an initial appearance alongside Z@P and Alex Picone on a Subwax Record Store Day special. His sound brims with confidence, using a bold palette of zippy high definition techno motifs and riding beats that scream for a big dancefloor. The A side is given over to the rich and punchy "TTTRT", while there's plenty of swing and swagger to be enjoyed on the sprightly "Dand". "AJ025" finishes the EP off with a rougher style that plays on some seriously twisted acid lines to devastating effect. Classy peak time business from a promising new talent.

Review: Scott Hallam has been an acid devotee since the early days, and he's largely put out his music on his own Axia label. While most of that is digital-only, now Cartulis have picked up on the considerable talents of this hardware lifer and presented five of his finest works on wax. The vibe veers tremendously, touching on dark and sinewy dungeon acid, boxy electro workouts, strangely psychedelic hardcore and plenty more besides. Hallam's style feels betrothed to the outboard approach - it's all synths and drum machines to these ears, and its immediacy is a big part of the charm. That, and the playful personality he works into those wigged out acid lines and pinging FX.

Review: Prolific Belgian producer Thomas Blanckaert aka Innershades makes his debut on London-based label Cartulis Music with the Deviation EP, a killer five-tracker packed full of punchy electro cuts. The funky and futurist Detroit vibe of the title track features some serious attitude on the mic courtesy of Mutado Pintado, while the visceral kicks of 'Electro Emotions' underpin some gliding 303 acid and a tapestry of neon-lit synth textures. Over on the flip, prepare to lose yourself under the strobe lights with 303 techno epic 'Heaven On Earth' while 'The Acid Never Dies' will also have you reaching for the lasers - tip!

Review: The UK label Cartulis Music is celebrating ten years in existence in 2024 and we are happy to say, their 16th release might just be their best yet. PO's Satania's Diary is an otherworldly techno standout that seems to blend all kinds of futuristic genres into a sci-fi soundtrack that is their own. Electro, techno, trance, psy, IDM and some sort of 'wave' subgenre. Nu-Romantic perhaps? Technowave? 'L'etoile De La Mort' balances a cool sounding techno and electro edge that has a EBM tinge to it that we just can't get enough. Super spacey and eerie, this cut is too good to be true. 'Are You Sure' continues that similar motif, begging the question is goa-electro a genre? One of the most original records we've heard in a long, long time.

Review: Prince de Takicardie has got the stuff to make you sweat, make no mistake. Having broken through in 2019, his music has been straining at the gates waiting for the grand reopening to truly get a workout on the party people of the world. After dropping the P record on Cartulis Music last year, as well as his debut album Live 4 Love, he's now back with 2, which comes loaded with smart and punchy club tracks for the players. Aligning with the sound you might hear on Partisan or Time Passages, Takicardie fires off his drum machines and synths with dead-eye precision, keeping a cool demeanour and placing the emphasis on the low end rhythm section. That is, after all, where the action is in any self-respecting dancefloor weapon, and here you're treated to four of them.

Review: After making a splash with releases on Twig and Lumbago, Raphael Beneluz brings his classy machine music to Cartulis with the P 12". Things get off to a pumped-up start with the dynamic, detailed thrust of "Xzomet" before the night draws in around the tastefully creepy workout "Darkanethesie". "Hostile Planet" opens up the B-side with more eerie atmospheres and stout box jam beats, and then "System Down" completes the package with another thumping tapestry of nervy acid and old-skool jack. For all the familiar touches, this is music dripping with personality and attitude, bottom-heavy and sure to devastation in the dance, real or virtual.

Review: Cartulis bounce from the essential release from Eliaz to this intriguing slab by Reade Truth, a New York techno original who was last spotted on Warm Fiction, Blkmarket Music and Path Records. His "Wires, Everywhere" album was a big release for Cartulis last year, and now he's back with further ruff n' tuff cuts that drip with Big Apple attitude. From the deep diving "Starflight" to the epic, ranging "Space Out (Expression)", you can sense Truth's hard earned swagger but it's also balanced out by subtlety, a sense of space and groove that makes each track a pleasure to sink into.

Energize feat Le Loup (Sh-2 Invasion) (7:06)
Musique Sans Souffre (No So2 mix) (7:32)
Cuvee Milodou (Gran Cru mix) (5:23)
Review: One of the most consistently intriguing artists operating in the French minimal house scene, Seuil has maintained an independent streak that has landed him on scores of label alongside his steady output on his own Eklo. The time has come for him to drop some missives on Cartulis, and the Parisian producer is sounding on rare form. There's a move towards fatter, rave-inspired sounds on this record, from the gnarly, buzzing leads of 'Energize' (featuring Le Loup), to the chirpy acid strut of 'Keep It Natural', but there's a deftness of touch in the execution of the tracks that could only belong to Seuil. 'Musique Sans Souffre' is the hit of the record - a moody, jacking workout to get lost in.

Nael
Review: Having kicked the label off back in 2014 and been intermittent in releasing music since, Cartulis Music is back with the label boss at the controls for another intriguing dive into the realm of leftfield techno and electro. There's a playful bent to the snagging beat and squelchy synths on "Horton" that call to mind the wobbly electro of Metamatics et al, while "125 Blacksmith" takes a slightly darker path without losing that acidic punch. "Nael" finishes the EP off on a more experimental tip, allowing the sounds plenty of space to loll about in a dazed reverie that shares the unconventional nature of the more dancefloor-minded tracks.

Review: Cartulis Music - run by Raphael Carrau and Unai Trotti out of Hackney - returns with Santiago Uribe for the label's eighth edition after previous releases by Trotti, Z@p and Reade Truth. The Montevideo Electric Recordings main man delivers a riveting selection of tracks on the Hacia Otro Norte EP, all taking their cues from hi-tech soul and sounds of the Motor City. From the rather John Tejada sounding "Normal", the deep Drexciyan electro of "Lessismorelke" to the frantic "IDT" going for that old-school techno vibe similarly pursued on labels such as Libertine or Art Of Dark at the moment - this is hot!

Acid Rhytms (7:06)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Uruguay's finest house and techno export Z@p continues his welcome return to active service - at the freakier end of the scene - with this spot on Cartulis Music. "Tracid" has a clue in its title, and it doesn't take long to detect the brazen 303 baiting taking place through the core of this peppy workout. It's an effective weapon used in just the right way that should get bodies wriggling with approval. "That Break" meanwhile diverts into a kind of braindance territory with the titular drums matched with more wobbly synth leads and spooked out pads, and then "Acid Rhytms" rounds the EP off with a more reflective cut for calmer moments in the dance.

Tommy Vicari Jnr - "Volatiles Pt 1" (5:42)
Anton Zap - "Crucifix Lane" (6:22)
Review: Emotive tracks by two super producers who impressed Cartulis Day with their memorable sets. The collective invites Tommy Vicari Jnr and Anton Zap once again, this time to showcase their music for the label's third release.
Tommy Vicari Jnr brings us a deeply playful side A track, well suited for those special after hours. Anton Zap names his track after Crucifix Lane, Cartulis' "home" for more than 5 years before it was forced to close earlier this year. He recreates that stomping ground atmosphere with this B track, sure to keep a dance floor pulsating during the peak of the night.
