  2. Dane & Khotin - "System" (5:23)
  3. Dane - "I Want More" (7:34)
  4. Eddie C - "One For Dane" (4:13)
Review: Canada's foremost re-edit imprint continues to churn out the hits, largely by delivering dub disco and Balearic-tinged interpretations of long forgotten or little-known cuts. Common Edit regulars Dane and Khotin join forces on the A-side, delivering a sweet chunk of boogie-era synthesizer reggae ("Imho"), before heading futher towards peaktime territory with the low-slung, late night AOR disco of "System". Eddie C digs delves into his seemingly bottomless crates of obscurities for inspiration on "I Want More", a gorgeous chunk of piano-laden Balearic disco sweetness. Finally, Dane lights up something medicinal, closes his eyes and delivers the smacked-out, guitar-laden ambient chug of "One For Dane". It's an absolute beauty, if truth be told.

Disco/Reediciones
  1. Sweet Nothing
  2. Jupiter Dub
Review: From the Edmonton-based edit party crew, "Common Edit 6" features two superbly spaced out slices of funk. "Sweet Nothing" is the more the dancefloor-focussed groove with a spider-like bassline that weaves a cosmic web over you while spiralling strings and reverbed horn toots cast all manner of spells upside your head. "Jupiter Dub" is the freakiest of the pair as a Wah Wah guitar plays the lead vocalist over an immense chugging bassline. There's nothing common about these cuts whatsoever.

Got To Find
Cat: CE 002. Rel: 11 May 11
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Koosh - "Track 1"
  2. Eddie C - "Track 2"
Review: Eddie C and his Seven Inches of Love buddy Koosh present the second release on the newly formed Common Edits label. Borne out of the intimate Edmonton club night called The Common, this second drop gets off to a suitably sultry start via Koosh's take on the Diana Ross classic "Love Hangover". Focusing mostly on portion of the track that has Ross grunting like she's on heat, this is a re-edit that's gonna get a few people in the mood. On the flip Eddie C drops "Got To Find", a delightfully wavy soul gem characterised by intermittent swathes of emotive synth washes

Free Sensation
Free Sensation (hand-stamped 7")
Cat: CE 009. Rel: 11 Feb 15
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Free Association - "Free Sensation"
  2. Hristo - "Heat Market"
Review: Edmonton crew Common Edit resurface with their first 7" treat in almost a year with Andrew Allsgood's Free Association and Honey Disco's Hristo sharing sides. As with all Common Edit releases it's a record of two halves with the Hristo production floor worthy whilst the Free Association track one for more horizontal situations. It's hard to describe "Free Sensation" as anything other than dreamy, with Allsgood revealing a dubby adventure into sumptuous dancefloor disco funk with some absolutely killer filtering. A decidedly more taut sensation runs through "Heat Market" from Hristo which is some uncredited, rigid disco funk perfect for the more cosmically minded selectors.

Josephina's Groove
Josephina's Groove (limited hand stamped 7")
Cat: CE 008. Rel: 28 Mar 14
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Josephina's Groove
  2. Prince Video
Review: With their sumptuous grooves, attention to detail and relaxed soulfulness, the Common Edit releases have quickly become must-have items for those who seek re-edits crafted with a deft touch. Here, the Canadian label drops another tasty hand-stamped 7" featuring typically sensual reworks from friends of the family Khotin and Dane. "Jospehina's Groove", all low-key soft shuffle, winding synths and sensual strings, is particularly impressive, not least in its reverential approach to the source material. There's a little more of a cosmic flavour to the deep, woozy grooves of "Prince Video", whose space noises, lazy synth bass and tumbling guitars occasionally give way to sublime strings.

Common Edit 11 (7" in hand-stamped sleeve)
Cat: CE 011. Rel: 27 Mar 17
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Dane - "Dance To Forget" (4:14)
  2. Khotin & Dane - "Rock Studio" (4:20)
Review: Ever since joining forces on "Josephina's Groove" in 2014, Khotin & Dane have been one of the most consistent sources of pure sonic style on Common Edit. Naturally Common's eleventh dispatch is no exception. Dane takes the lead with an upbeat space jam that's peppered with elements of Italo and dub and a smooth cosmic sheen that's not dissimilar to Metro Area. "Rock Studio", meanwhile, takes us to much more soulful pastures with heavenly swooning harmonies and guitars so shiny they could make Pacqua blush. Not to be slept on.

Common Edits 12
Cat: CE 012. Rel: 03 Oct 17
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Cooper Saver & Patrick Holland - "How About" (7:28)
  2. Eddie C - "Don't Rush" (2:57)
  3. Dane - "Space Up Your Life" (5:08)
  4. El Molito - "Sunny Days In The Chocolate Factory" (5:08)
Review: Here's something of a rarity: a 12" outing from Canada's Common Edit, a label best-known for releasing sneaky 7" singles. Wisely, the label has decided to use the format to serve up more tracks - four, to be precise - with a swathe of scalpel wielding label talent at the controls. Cooper Saver and Patrick Holland kick things off via the Balearic boogie brilliance of synth-laden roller "How About", before Eddie C lights up something fat and fragrant, dips the tempo and goes all jazz-funk on Brazilian disco slow-jam "Don't Rush". Flip to the B-side for the majestic, Clavinet-laden peak-time disco rush of Dane's "Space Up Your Life" (chuckle) and the atmospheric Blaxploitation hustle of El Molito's "Sunny Days in the Chocolate Factory".
