Review: It's been almost four years since we last heard from Anatoly Ice and Dariya, and we were beginning to miss the duo's magnetic waves of seductive nu-soul. Backed by a gentle sway of breakbeats, "Freedom (Unchained)" is the sort of tune that will have cross-cultural appeal, drawing in influences from pop, r&b, and even a little country love. On the flip, Mr Confuse twists the groove up to transform the original into more of a light-hearted house swelter, backed by the original's suave vocals.

Review: Hannover funk hero Mr Confuse continues his freakery with this limited 45": "Fast Lane" slaps the Hammonds so hard you begin to consider setting up a welfare charity for funk's most important key-based instrument. "The Turnaround" sees Mr Confuse turning his slap-happy focus to the bongos as a conga rattles hard beneath another insistent key-line. Essential modern funk.

Review: Last time out, hard-working Hanover producer Mr Confuse delivered some suitably sweaty, sample-heavy thrills built around horns, Moog stabs and the kind of infectious grooves that sit somewhere in between disco, funk and Afrobeat ('Spinning Around'). He changes tack a little on this fiery and funky follow-up, getting soulful, big-voiced singer Inna Yvsotska to belt out some life-affirming vocals above a crunchy funk groove and some seriously heavy horn lines. The quality of Confuse's backing track is confirmed by the flipside instrumental version, which allows further opportunities to admire the solid-but-loose-limbed drum-breaks, toasty bass, and razor-sharp horns. A guaranteed floor-filler.

Review: Confunktion Records main man Mr. Confuse looks back to go forwards with this one: he serves up a splendid cover version of Rockwell's huge 80s classic 'Somebody's Watching Me.' In his hands, it becomes a fresh and funky, organic track with plenty of heavy funk drums. The big horns will get dance floors moving and plenty of rich Hammond organ sounds bring extra weight to the tune. Soulful vocals by singer John Winston Berta finish the tune off but if you prefer you can flip it over for an instrumental without them.

Review: Previously spotted on Confunktion's "Battle Of The Year 2016" soundtrack album, the German b-boy's cover of Shannon's "Let The Music Play" instantly pops with lo-fi fuzzy charm thanks to some heavy organ use and insatiable breaks. "Same Old Game" flips for a sweatier heavy funk twist; stomping with northern soul power, Leo Will's gutsy vocals charge us deep into the groove with no second thought required. Only 100 of these puppies are being pressed.

Review: Confunktion Records' very own Mr. Confuse returns with a cover version of Carmen's 80s boogie / electro funk classic 'Time To Move'. Here's, he's more than beefed up the originals snappy production, adding mega-pristine and weightier drums to the original's glitzed-out enthusiasm. In contrast to Nero's famed remix, this one carries with it an extra surfy guitar minimality, rather than brosteppy grandeur.

Review: Hanover turntablist-turned-producer Mr Confuse has been serving up heavyweight slabs of funk-fuelled dancefloor goodness for the best part of two decades. He's delivered some particularly heated workouts of late, and this double A-side affair is another weighty, party-hearty must-have. Lead cut "Spinning Around" is especially potent, with the German producer layering clipped guitars, heavy Hammond organ stabs, punchy horns and weighty bass guitar atop a floor-shaking breakbeat. "Against All Odds" meanwhile is a more gnarled and - whisper it quietly - riotous slab of funk breaks peppered with buzzing alto sax lines and funk-rock guitar licks. It also boasts a killer bass breakdown, which is no bad thing.

Review: Confunktion Records's Mr. Confuse links with Ferry Ultra on this tight new 7". It is a fresh and funky take on nu-disco from Ferry Ultra, who is best known for his work with greats like Roy Ayers, Gwen McCrae, Ann Sexton and Kurtis Blow. There are some strong summer vibes to this one with silky synths and cosmic vibes pervading the dubby, rolling disco beats of the excellent 'Discognized'. It is playful and charismatic, making it all the more fun. On the reverse is a version that will work once the sun has gone down and the party has moved inside.
