Steve Allman - "Darkness" (5:58)
Steve Allman - "Initiate Experiment" (5:32)
Alex Jann - "Mind Control Uses" (5:09)
Alex Jann - "Punish Room" (5:52)
Review: The latest Cultivated Electronics drop is a split disc affair which takes us right up to the forefront of modern electro, as you might well expect given the label's output. 'Darkness' opens up Steve Allman's side in a breakneck throw down of edgy synth ripples and crusty drums dialled into the machine funk frequency. 'Initiate Experiment' is no slouch either, precision tooled for punchy effectiveness on the floor. Alex Jann tips some tripped-out processing on top of his own tightly wound, motorik sequences on 'Mind Control Uses', while 'Punish Room' plays around with some artful spatial sound design on the edges of this steadfast electro workout.

Corona Acid (6:13)
Review: A masterclass in haunting electrance from London-based producer Controlled Weirdness, who reigns in and exercises mastery over his own oddball production tendencies over the course of four tracks. Packed with sci-fidelity, an alternative future post-COVID New York is imagined here, as 'Corona Acid' bridges the neuronal gap between trance and booty bass, while 'Bleeker St' casually fires off a steady steam of laser blaster sounds. Serious electro heat.

Attack Of The Blow Up Dolls (4:41)
Tsikey (6:00)
Ahemait (5:05)
Needler (6:04)
Review: Berlin-based duo CYRK is comprised of Samy Goossens and Pascal Hetzel, and they've proven themselves to be a formidable force in the hinterland where electro and techno collide. Take this latest drop for Cultivated Electronics, which kicks off in earnest with the snarling, pumped up thrust of 'Attack Of The Blow Up Dolls'. 'Tsikey' keeps the mood nightmarish, but in a fun sort of way, with sprightly analogue synth lines cavorting over the slamming drums with glee. The techno element comes to the fore on the tightly wound, arp-charged 'Ahemait', and 'Needler' leans heavy on the funk without losing that stern demeanour that defines the CYRK output.

Rico Casazza - "Here Home Us" (5:17)
Rico Casazza - "Caldo" (6:44)
Review: Defekt's Cultivated Electronics presents For The Floor, a new series of split 12"s on its vinyl-only sister label CE LTD. Boldly, this is electro that refuses to stay as 'clean' as the Spotify algorithm or YouTube compression process would like it to be. Everything is distorted: 'Control Your Mind', for example, more or less sounds as though it's been run through an analogue master bus that's been half-corroded by nuclear fallout, with meditations on brainwashing and mind control repeating throughout. It's almost as if clipping and/or distortion is a metaphor for the mediated mind-frazzling that keeps us in check, that keeps us consuming.

Stop & Stall (6:41)
First In Motion (4:50)
Specialized In Anything (6:38)
Lowest Perceived Legitimacy (7:04)
Review: French electro innovator DynArec is on a rampant run at the moment, with new releases popping up nigh-on everywhere right now. It makes sense to see him link up with Cultivated Electronics, one of the most on-point electro labels in action right now. 'Stop & Stall' opens proceedings with a limber and lithe romp through pinging, shuddering leads and hard as nails drum thumps. 'First In Motion' has a 4/4 strut which aligns it more with Italo, although the synths are far from retro endeavours. 'Specialized In Anything' is a sinewy workout which nods to the early 00s electroclash era and 'Lowest Perceived Legitimacy' slips into something sleeker, making for a varied and highly effective dispatch of machine funk from a singular voice.

Review: A dystopian barrage of mechanoid electro soundscapes comes courtesy of Silicon Scally, a new, scathing alias alias of rather legendary UK music producer Carl Finlow, best known as 20:20 Vision. Inspired by the oncoming anxiety of a technological hell (trust us, we all feel it, Carl), it's either join the AI death cult or die, as a straight 60+ minutes of generative electro stabbery and post-neural warpings make the entire project sound like a supernatural server processing vast numeric quantities of infectious bytes.

Review: London's Phil Bolland aka Sync 24 has been creating electro for over two decades via his Cultivated Electronics label, which he launched in 2007. The label has gone on to release music by Carl Finlow, DMX Krew, The Exaltics and Morphology, but now the spotlight is firmly on his solo work. Across its 11 tracks, Inside The Microbeat showcases many variations of the electro sound yet all delivered in his singular style. From the futurist beats of opener 'Oriental Sunset' and the brooding sci-fi aesthetic of the title track, to the dystopian bass programme of 'Haunt Times' and the hi-tech computer funk of 'Avoid The Ploid' - Bolland drives you through his own intimately constructed landscape.

Tripeo - "Bullshit Detector" (5:37)
Tripeo - "Echo Cages" (5:06)
Cycloplex - "Hypertension" (7:11)
Cycloplex - "Alarm Activated" (6:20)
Review: Cultivated Electronics presents For the Floor Volume 2, the second instalment in a split EP series that hears something of a fusion between techno and electro, together with a focus on sating the more cerebral dancefloor. Dutch techno pusher Tripeo delivers two techlectro confidence-trickers, 'Bullshit Detector' and 'Echo Cages', deploying a new kind of mysterious, alien sonic technology that makes our mere digital and quantum vanguards look, well, rather shoddy. Meanwhile, Spanish dub techno producer Cycloplex brings up the B, upping the floor's collective blood pressure with 'Hypertension' and simu-stimulating the human stress response with 'Alarm Activated'. An urgent dance EP with mechanistic edges; it probably shouldn't be handled without a hard-hat, goggles and gloves.

Aureum (4:57)
Xhante (6:15)
Radau (5:32)
Memnonia (5:27)
Review: Matti Turunen works as Morphology with Michael Diekmann most famously but also turns out super solo sounds, just not very often. Cultivated Electronics LTD, the vinyl off shoot of the main label, enlists the Finnish electronic maestro for just that here. This is an EP of irresistible electro-funk with cosmic intent. His lush melodies drift in well-made arrangements over clipped beats with plenty of melancholic tones in between. Some are more gritty like 'Xhante' while 'Radau' is an elastic rhythm with depth in the chords. 'Memnonia' cuts loose on a floating vibe with meticulously sequenced melody patterns falling like cosmic rain.
