Review: The key cut from "Love And Other Planets" gets the remix treatment from some great current talent. Being the most percussive and groove based track on the album, "Launch Yourself" lends itself perfectly to some inspired and diverse remixes. Current breakthrough hipsters Hot Chip deliver a skanking slow hip hop groove, Four Tet give it a mental acid house workhouse and upcoming Swedish Maestro Eriksen perhaps trumps the lot with a hyper r'n'b roller.

Review: Alex G's real surname is Giannascoli and this is his ninth solo album and fourth for Domino. Hi style is a lush take on rock classics that is heightened by his skills on the production software Garageband. American indie rock colours much of this album with a real tension and melodic beauty in most tunes whiner thoughtful and insular or more acoustic. There is even a hint of industrial rock on 'Blessing' as he muses on environmental collapse while 'No Bitterness' is punchy pop-rock with sleazy texture and plenty of raw emotion.

Review: Animal Collective return with album number eight, their first for Domino. "Strawberry Jam" was recorded by Scott Colburn in Tucson, Arizona. It's an amazing record, which should finally mark some sort of crossover for them. It bears all of their unique and charming hallmarks but with vocals and melody much more to the foreground.

Review: As demonstrated in illustrious fashion on last year's Motion Sickness compilation, UK independent lable Domino are pretty handy when it comes to pairing their roster of artists with interesting remixes. Further evidence is in abundance on Monkey Been To Burntown, a collection of remixes from Animal Collective's last LP Centipede Hz. Gang Gang Dance, Teengirl Fantasy, Traxman and Shabazz Palaces are all involved and draw on the two tracks from that LP ("Monkey Riches" and "New Town Burnout") which influenced the amusing title of this EP. The results are as diverse as you'd expect from such a cast with Traxman's relentless take on "Monkey Riches" the stand out version.

Review: The traditional album and EP formats have been on the wane for many years now - we don't consume music in the same was as we once did, that's for true. But in the era of quarantines, forgetting what month it is (let alone the day), and endless attempts to stay entertained, those frameworks make even less sense. Or at least that's what Animal Collective seem to think.

So while this can be filed under Extended Play, it's actually a more complex work befitting out time. Wildly experimental, think a jam session painted in psychedelic hues, where rhythms and ideas converge in a strange, thick soup-like arrangement that evolves, reinvents itself and - perhaps most importantly - keeps ears glued to the speaker for its duration. You'll need to go a long way to find a better source of aural pleasure right now.

Review: In 2018 Arctic Monkeys sold out the Royal Albert Hall with a gig raising money for War Child, all proceeds heading for the charity. Reports from the show were excellent, which was to be expected from a band that went from vital enfant terrible to indie headliners while managing to maintain artistic credibility, with frontman Alex Turner now among the most significant figures in UK rock 'n' roll (albeit his side projects, The Last of the Shadow Puppets and Death Ramps, have helped).

Now, two years on, the Sheffield outfit are back with a similar idea, although this time it's a highly sought-after recording from that night, again with the intention of handing over all the cash to War Child. Preceded by sharing a video of the version of '505' they performed at said show, if you've heard that take on the Favourite Worst Nightmare track you know what to expect here. Masters of the live arena, giving it their all.

Review: One of Britain's best-loved and most accomplished pop-rock bands are back with another highly anticipated album. The Car is epic on every level with its adventurously designed tunes, lots of grand orchestration and plenty of easy-to-enjoy and enigmatic songs of love but also doubt. The Sheffield outfit's seventh long player was written by frontman Turner at his home in LA and mixes indie and psychedelic rock, baroque, glam and orchestral rock with production largely taken care of by frequent collaborator James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco fame. The title is a nod to the fact that - guess what - there are many references to cars throughout the lyrics.

Sutphin Boulevard (Bicep remix)
The Complete Knock (Bottin mix)
Review: Round two of remixes to accompany the return of Devonte Hynes under his new musical endeavour Blood Orange and further evidence that Domino employ a crack team of scene observers to inform their remix commissioning. Whereas the first release saw In Flagranti and Krystal Klear tackle tracks from the forthcoming Coastal Grooves, everyone's favourite Venetian Bottin shares duties with the fully flexing Irish duo Bicep. The horror disco don calls shotgun with a suitably analogue filled freakout of "The Complete Knock" which keeps the percussive leanings to a minimum to allow the ankle hugging bass and multiple arpeggiated synth directions space to shine. On the flip, Bicep serve up a further taste of their burgeoning production chops, tackling "Sutphin Boulevard" and serving up a sleazy low slung cosmic jam perfectly suited for the sweaty basement spaces the duo spend the early hours of most weekends in.

Review: There's no denying Domino know how to knock 'em down hard. Having already delivered long players from Cat Power, Bob Moses and Villagers just this year alone, they are now turning to Devonte Hynes who is no stranger to the label either. Negro Swan provides the London artist with his fourth studio album which in large draws from the lost souls of '90s pop. It's hard not to hear Michael Jackson, Phil Collins and R&B four pieces all at once in tracks like "Saint", and even "Charcoal Baby", while there's even suggestion of Will Powers' spoken charm in the words to "Family". More Contemporary touches of genre are there in the emotional, beat pop of tracks like "Chewing Gum" and "Nappy Wonder" without forgetting the tropes of neo soul in "Holy Will". A grand album wrapped up in the angel wings of Blood Orange's queer poetic.

Review: Although the name Bob Moses would lead one to imagine a hairy, bearded dude making reggae-driven folk ballads in his attic, it actually represents a duo made up of Canadians Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance. The pair moved from British Columbia down to NYC, and have since then been on a steady rise in terms of releases. They were first picked up by New York's Francis Harris, on his own Scissor and Thread imprint, and then they made a jump to the almighty Domino, the label they return to now with their debut LP. Days Gone By follows neatly from where the duo last left off; the album is a fine blend of melancholic, r&b-flavoured vocals and luscious house grooves. The opener "Like It Or Not" and "Talk" are both perfect examples of their deep and ethereal take on the genre, while "Before I Fall" shows their more musical side, a tune that doesn't rely on a 4/4 structure, and instead manages to work a slow hip-hop beat into the same pensive sway that drives most of their previous tracks. All in all, this is a deep and melancholic house album with plenty of twists and turns - it's a keeper!

Review: Seminal UK punk band Buzzcocks had a mega first run of success before a near decade long hiatus in the 90s and then a welcome return. 'Running Free' comes form that first chapter - 1980, to be precise, and is a much sought after new wave and rock blend written by Steve Diggle. It's a raw, high energy sound with punchy drum funk and squealing melodic leads. This limited 7" is backed with 'What Do You Know?', a rabble-rousing anthem with walls of sleazy guitar and wild vocals.

Review: Domino continue to back the lashings of Anna Calvi, hailed once by ambient pop lord Brian Eno as "the best thing since Patti Smith". Well her third studio album has arrived, and we say she's actually the best thing since Sinead O'Connor - at least "Hunter" makes us think so. The twice Mercury Prize-nominated artist, it's said, has delivered this album after ending an eight-year relationship that saw her move to France and explore themes of 'pleasure, gender, and sexuality'. "I'm tired of seeing women depicted as being hunted by men," she writes, "I am the hunter. I go out into the world and see it as mine." The alpha within Anna Calvi has arrived.

Review: Peaky Blinders is a saga that will live on in British cultural folklore long after people stop streaming the show itself. And the legacy of arguably the coolest show to come out of the UK in several years is as much to do with the contemporary stylisation of what's essentially a period piece as it is the attitude it exudes. An atmosphere that's distinctly British, to say the least. A key aspect of the overall impact is the soundtrack, and who better to craft the score to this dark, violent, socially-imbalanced, politically-volatile period in English gangster history than Anna Calvi. The high priestess of alternative, brooding, tense rock & roll plucked straight from the depths of surrealism, every pluck and chord seems to intensify the overall feeling, seducing us with a combination of breathy spoken word, operatic contralto, and tense virtuoso guitar playing.

Review: .If the aim of any commissioned soundtrack score is to provide music that enhances and emphasises the on-screen action, then Anna Calvi's work on BBC smash Peaky Blinders is up there with the best of them. While Calvi only provided soundtracks to two seasons - five and six, both of which are presented on this limited double-disc release - the distinctive sound worlds she created suited series' dark and stylish visual tone. All low-slung basslines, dystopian effects, snarling riffs and squally, stretched-out guitar solos, the collected instrumentals stand on their own two feet while naturally conjuring up mental glimpses of key scenes for those who watched and loved the award-winning series.

Review: Chan Marshall is back with a third brilliant album of her now well loved reinterpretations of songs by classic and contemporary artists. Better known as Cat Power, Marshall shows her real and genuine range with these records which span styles, scene and sounds with ease. Artists such as The Replacements, Nick Cave, Lana Del Rey, The Pogues and Frank Ocean all get her unique treatment. This version on heavyweight gold wax comes with a sticker and bonus 7" featuring a fine cover of 'You Got The Silver' by the Rolling Stones.

It's Getting Light Outside
Chemically Free
Review: "It’s Getting Light Outside" is the Hove groups most vibrant, accessible releases to date. Rolling in on a tom-tom pulse that might have suited the Shangri-Las, strings that are part-Elgar, part-Bollywood, and an upbeat lyric about enjoying an old friend's company this is the new single from Clearlake. The lead track has been remixed by Long Throw Specialists and the reactions have been great, from both indie clubs and the club kids. The 7" is backed with the brand new track "Chemically Free".

Review: Space western Velvet Underground Charlie and the Chocolate Factory punk funk here we come. Domino reintroduce Liverpool's cherished post-punk pop experimentalists Clinic to a new audience after seven years away from the studio, with this return LP said to reference a long-forgotten 1970s ITV variety show: Wheeltappers and Shunters. With drum machines, guitars, synths and a flurry of other experimentations and hypnotic, minimalistic grooves painting some alternative Wizard of OZ imagery, highlights include the offbeat, psychedelic surf punk of "Rubber Bullets" to the undeniably phat bassline and catchy vocals of "Mirage". Think Alan Vega and Martin Rev meets Ray Manzarek and a haunted vision of '70s psych rock. A feeling that you've probably not experienced in some time, if ever.

Review: Formerly part of the risible Test Icicles and previously known as Lightspeed Champion, the now New York-based Devonte Hynes will release Coastal Grooves his 'official' debut album under the Blood Orange pseudonym, later this summer. As a precursor, he's put together this low-price "mixtape" of home recordings, demos and cast-offs to whet our appetites. Given its piecemeal nature, Home Recordings Mixtape is a pretty tasty collection. Apparently originally designed to accompany his various late-night drives around New York City, it neatly blurs the boundaries between glassy-eyed 80s synth grooves, soft rock, slow jams, blue-eyed soul and late night AM radio favourites. Naturally, it's pretty stylized and there's an air of the too-cool-for-school about it, but the effervescent quality of the ultra-atmospheric music on offer easily outweighs such misgivings.

Review: It's been almost five years since Four Tet's last LP. However, you could never accuse Kieran Hebden of being lazy, having spent the years since 2005's Everything Ecstatic working on a number of EPs, collaborations and mixes, not to mention enough remixes to keep any student going throughout their perpetual revision period.

His fifth studio album to date forms a combination of minimal dance and amalgamations of sounds and ideas from his career so far. It serves a timely reminder of the joy of genre mashing in what is one of the first important releases of the new decade.

After the delicate and disjointed vocal-led opener 'Angel Echoes' we move into what will be Four Tet's next single, the hypnotic nine minute colossal, 'Love Cry.' Jazz percussion is layered over a sprawling house sentiment that builds exponentially throughout the saga. The aptly named 'Circling' uses hazy synthesizers to progresses from a soft, folk-like beginning to flamboyant end before we are treated to the fantastically warped female vocal that gives the defining factor on 'Sing.' Following 'Plastic People's' clap-infused melodic wandering, we reach 'She Just Likes To Fight' which seems to capture the emotional undertones that lay covered throughout the whole LP in a heart-warming sense of utter contentment.

It seems the long wait for an LP was more than worth it as Four Tet delivers guides through a labyrinth of musical tastes and genres whilst never losing his way in experimentation or self indulgence. Pushing limits, but in an ear-pleasing way, 'There Is Love In You' is yet another reason to jump aboard Four Tet.

Review: Released back in 2003, Rounds was the third LP from Kieran Hebden as Four Tet and perhaps the first long player that widely established him as a pioneering voice within electronic music. Though it doesn't feel like a decade since it was released, Domino celebrate the album's tenth anniversary in requisite fashion here, reissuing it in double LP format and slipping in a CD of Four Tet performing live in Copenhagen in 2004. Listening back now, it's easy to understand why Rounds is viewed as an early classic in the Four Tet canon, transferring his love for free jazz records to a beat template that's more palatable on the ear (Fact pickers might want to know that Hebden recently revealed to Pitchfork the LP was made entirely from samples) "She Moves She" still sounds absolutely haunting too!
