Review: As well as serving up some of the best in contemporary b-boy boogie swerves and blessed disco from the likes of Inkswel, Andras Fox and more, Kid Sublime's oh so appropriately named Dopeness Galore label does occasionally dip toes in archival waters. After reissues of Chet Baker and Pharaoh Sanders, Dopeness Galore are back on this flex with an LP of jazz bop burners from the masterful saxophonist George Adams. Now sadly departed, Adams was a Jazz multi-instrumentalist who was pretty active up until his passing in 1992. Suitably titled Finest, this six track selection canvasses the '70s and '80s era of the Adams discography with his dramatic way of playing the saxophone really coming to the fore. Dope!

Rules Of Love
Review: Cafe Romantica sees rising Melbourne producer Andras Fox team up with Oscar S. Thorn again for a richly deserved follow up to last year's Embassy Cafe LP for Dopeness Galore. Fox's star is definitely on the rise at the moment, with a recent 12" for Mexican Summer and Overworld, a highly regarded solo LP of smudged new age as A.R.T. Wilson. It was Embassy Cafe that arguably put Fox on the map, his raw and deep productions the perfect backing for Thorn's distinct vocal delivery and fans of that set will be pleased to hear the pair's chemistry is just as evident on Cafe Romantica. Some eight tracks deep, there's a real pleasant vibe throughout evoking that classic Dream 2 Science feel and will find equal favour amongst the home listeners and the club selectors.

Looking Back (Tornado Wallace dub) (6:35)
Looking Back (Zanzibar Chanel remix) (4:47)
Review: If you enjoyed Andras Fox and Oscar S Thorn's brilliant sophomore album, Cafe Romantica, this 12" should be essential listening. The EP's title track picks up where that set left off, with the duo once again conjuring a perfect balance between soulful synth-pop, lilting Balearica, and the kind of sumptuous deep house on which Larry Heard made his name. On the flip you'll find some fine remixes of album highlight "Looking Back". While Tornado Wallace's deep Balearic house take is rather wonderful, it's Zanzibar Channel's interpretation that stands out. Somehow, they've re-cast the deep and dreamy original as a madcap chunk of lo-fi P-funk.

Review: After their first EP in 2004 and their second, just released in Japan. Wouda and Elsas are presenting the third Bum On The Carpet 12" to provide you with a small glimpse of what to expect with the album. "Hold It Tight" puts you back in that disco fusion area, reminiscing the time of Patrice and Geraldine.. Coming out of a live jam with Wouda and Elsas on MPC & synths, and the shameless vocals of Wille, this one will set the mood on every party!!! The incense "Nag Champa" is always burning during the BOTC sessions, the same titled track shares the vibe of these crafting nights in Amsterdam. As the extended version is featured on this 12", a shorter version will be on the upcoming album, hitting stores early '07!!! As many said: "Bum On The Carpet is all about the head nod..", hope this one stays in the head!!

The Hangout (extended version)
SP 4 U (Promise)
Review: With the "Boogie Sessions", Dopeness Galore display a vibe of pure boogie, especially meant for the DJs who make a crowd move! Boogie Sessions #1 is created by Dutch producer, DJ and label owner Wouda. He started spinning records to the local crowd at his hometown at the age of fifteen. After graduating high school he continued to study audio engineering. His musical influences come from artists such as Prince, Stevie Wonder, Patrice Rushen and Donald Byrd. The first track, "The Hangout" (extended version) is an instrumental track of a session inspired by those long, edited versions from the jazz and funk masters in the early eighties. The following track, "SP4U (Promise)", vibrates on rhythm layers hold together by Rhodes and bass. Jazz drummer's keeping the groove!!! Dopeness!!!

Review: Earlybird Soul System comprises Charli James (whose vocals have graced cuts from the likes of Red Rackem, Kid Sublime and Freekwency) and Inkswel (whose beats have blessed imprints such as Rush Hour, Hot Shot, and Boogiebash). The result of this partnership is a solid sound that smoulders with naked arrangement dynamics and a dreamy disco soul that instantly captures the imagination. Highlights include the densely layered vocal textures and loose drum swagger of "Flashing Lights", the block-party free-for-all "Superior Fonk" and the dubbier, chuggier "Insense". And that's before we even get to the remixes. Each one adding a new chapter to this great new modern soul partnership

Review: Gene Gene is a Dutch six-piece which got together to craft some nice laidback vibes and smooth tunes that bend organic sounds, rich song craft and the right amount of improv'. They are real masters in the lvdi arena who have finely tuned their craft around Amsterdam and that shows here. The a-side is a lush one with 'Loud N' Stuff' having nice leggy beats, rolling drums and wooden hits and languid chord work, 'Pada Pada' then just deep with nice loose drum line and jumbled toms as well as some fine vocal work.

The SOAP Song (feat Tom Trago)
Ginseng Root (feat Benny Badge)
Review: The ace Australian producer known as Inkswel makes a debut on the couldn't have named it better Dopeness Galore label with an EP of health conscious future boogie called The Ginseng Root EP. You should be hooked as soon as the saturated gospel vocal hook on opening track "High All Time!" attempts to make its presence felt amidst the crunched up and spat out electro flex, and from here Inkswel continues to feed samples through the masher on the sultry MPC workout "Salada Estrelar." Tom Trago fans watch out now, as the Voyage Direct boss appears flipside, gracing "The SOAP Song" with his esteemed presence with heavily fonked out results - just wait for the analogue bassline to arrive! Proceedings end with the Benny Page featuring title track which is steeped in that 92 era boogie/house vintage. Do check!

My Feelingz (Swayze mix)
Review: Dopeness Galore have been knocking it out the park for the best part of a year, with killer plates from Inkswel, Rahaan, Andras Foxx and label mainstay Kid Sublime ensuring they are perhaps one of Amsterdam's most unsung operations. The Sublime one is at the helm once more on the Body Language EP that builds on the crisp, heavy jacking approach of his previous Dopeness Galore release, appealing to fans of early M.A.W, Mike Dunn and Moodymann. Lead track "Mr Hanz" is a highlight and most reminiscent of Dunn with a spoken word vocal riding the bumpy house rhythms that are complemented by the sort of eyebrow raising samples that Sublime may have sourced from a field recording trip to Amsterdam's Red Light District.

Keep On
Review: It's the return of that Kid Sublime to Dopeness Galore with the excellent 12" The Return Of The Basehead brandishing the producer's most jacking material to date! We kind of feel Kid Sublime gets passed over when discussing Amsterdam's enduring club music heritage and this four track release should turn the heads of those that don't know. Early Masters at Work, Mike Dunn and Moodymann are offered up as reference points for the four tracks here and it's a comparison that rings true, with the bumping of "Takin' Me Over" a real highlight. A killer vocal hook and an equally deadly string sample diced up from the Psycho OST show the Kid's edit chops are in good form and crucially the track's complemented by a sublime groove. The string heavy "World Tour" hits the spot too, whilst "Keep On" sounds positively possessed when you pitch it up a few notches. Big tip!

Review: In the summer of 2005, we from Dopeness Galore hooked up with the jazz label Timeless to start a project which ended up in this LP: 'The Timeless Interpretations'. Timeless is a famous jazz label founded in 1975 in the Netherlands. The label holds a catalogue consisting of more than 700 titles of the most highly anticipated jazz artists of our time, from which only a few are revealed on this album. To shine a new light on 'Timeless' and give people who don't know about the label the chance to re-discover, Dopeness Galore connected with the finest contemporary producers who were given the freedom to create this LP as free and versatile as the word "Interpretation" can be interpreted. Much like Timeless, the artists on this record are no newcomers in the music game. Most of them have been around for some time, but are not known by the big audience. This record brings them and Timeless together, it represents what's going on right now, and gives you a peek at the future of music. Dopeness Galore is proud to finally present you the album, gaining to be as timeless as the interpreted artists.

Crafted on a menu of analog machines, Bandung's Munir pays homage to the city's funky, boogie and electronic sound he grew up to while lacing it with more timeless dancefloor feels of a universal nature. Ranging from the blissful rippling eb and flow of "Late Check Out 2PM" or the delicate jazz feels of "Outdoor Bathtub" to the riffing acid funk of "Room Service (Extra Bed)" or hot stepping Detroitian blasts of "Members Only", all laced up with a cool and clever hotel theme, this isn't just your standard debut album, this is a debut of a lifetime that you'll never forget. Place make yourself at home.

Acid Goes
Review: New up-tempo Overlast tune with a crazy mono-syllabic club remix by London's break beat legend, Depth Charge (DC Recordings) aka J. Saul Kane, aka Octogon Man, aka Tet, aka Alexander's Dark band.
These two musicians really fit each other's style - they're really on it with their sonics and sound design and both tracks work in the club as well as they would sit beneath a chasing scene from an obscure cult movie. While Depth Charge already has a huge reputation in his own created scene from the early 90s till now, Overlast finds himself building on his own reputation with his trademark sound as a drummer and beat creator.
Beside the title track this 12" features another track 'Acid Goes'. This tune has Overlast's signature colour of sound; using one of the worlds first drum machines, a lot of amps, mics, pedals and fx. As the title suggests, it's appealing to the acid-heads but as it goes it also should be discovered by people from the dub step scene.

First 500 copies are bundled with the 'My Busted Knee' artwork printed on 250 gram photo paper!

Sister Envelope (UMOD aka Domu remix)
Review: Overlast, born 1986, has been playing drums since he was able to reach them. As soon as he discovered other production tools he began to layer synth sounds and start to experiment with old amplifiers and mixers. Then he started listening to artists such as The Beatles and got heavily influenced by the way they treated sound. The title track, "Sister Envelope", has that exact, filtered, signature Overlast sound. "The Glasspaper" is a real crowd mover. It starts off easy, and evolves into a house type stomp track. On the b-side "Sister Envelope" gets remixed by Umod (please read that backwards).

Review: Dopeness Galore created a project with Timeless records. Timeless is a famous Jazz label founded 1975, in the Netherlands. The label holds a catalogue consisting more than 700 titles of the most highly anticipated jazz artists of our time, including: Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Lou Donaldson, Cedar Walton, Batida, Pharaoh Sanders, Johnny Griffin, Eddie Marshall and Chet Baker. Interpretations of the last two artists can be found on the second single of a series which will be led to an album. Like the first record, this record is also featured with interpretations created by great artists: The Politik is a collaboration between New Zealand's keyboardist Mark de Clive-Lowe and London's jazz/brokenbeat vocalist Bembe Segue. Clive-Lowe released three albums and did several remixes for great artists including Shirley Horn and Chico Hamilton. Bembe lends her talent to artists like 4 Hero and Roy Ayers. Together as The Politik they found massive support with their leading single and gained great responses with their live performances. For this single they made an interpretation based on The High Priestess of gone, a track by drummer Eddie Marshall. Using the spirit of the song and adding their vibes on top of it, The Politik created a song that let's you vibrate in your own peace: "High Priestess". The second track, "Beat Rise", is made by Dutch producer INT and features Melodee. Travelling from a break, through hip hop with a hint of a boogie twist ending in an acoustic performance, he is able to tell you a story through several moods. From MCing to DJing to producing, INT did it all. As an MC he rocked crowds from Germany to Washington, while his DJ skills got him opening up for acts like Jeru and Rahzel. He worked with people like Frank Nitty, Roc C, Kid Sublime and his own crew, lmadodattaz. Using Beatrice by Chet Baker and Philip Catherine, INT made it beat rise.

Saucy Lady Touch It (Rahaan dub version)
Review: Hands down winner of 'title of the week', this cheeky disco number is brought to us by Chicago veteran Rahaan. Boasting the vocals of the mysterious Saucy Lady, the original is a warm and glowing retro disco romp complete with authentic brass and strings. Rahaan also provides a larger, extended mix in which he strips the opulence down to a more bareback groove, inserting a big and nasty raw electro bassline to help bring the dancefloor to a suitable climax (of joy).

Swinging To The Bass (Bruce Ivery remix)
Review: The music of London based collective Los Charly's Orchestra dips a 70s boogie sound with a Latin touch, and lends itself well to the exemplary mixing talents of Chi-town don Rahaan, who remixes "Swinging To The Bass" for Dopeness Galore Holland. Rahaan captures the funk that lies at the core of this track, using it as the base on which to manipulate and twist the music. It's a light footed disco cut, with a hook that slices clean through the spattering of jazz-licked murmurings. The dub mix overwhelms you with a driving bass line and tinkling piano solo, with Rahaan borrowing each epic element and composing a fresh and lively sound. Do check.

Review: Amsterdam prankster San Proper (Rush Hour/Perlon) returns with Love 2, a follow up to his Love LP released earlier this year, also on Dopeness Galore. There's some funky R&B reminiscent of the Purple one on "Lovesick" featuring some impressive pop vocals courtesy of Steven van L. on top. On the flip there's another offering entitled "Monkeys Play With Fire (San & Wouda dub)" which is some reduced disco dub goodness reminiscent of legends like ESG or Arthur Russell.
