Underbite
Underbite (12")
Cat: EBEAMZ 027. Rel: 17 Oct 18
Electro
  1. Lard (5:05)
  2. Lard (Obergman & Eargoggle remix) (6:26)
  3. Underbite (7:21)
  4. Underbite (Jensen Interceptor & Assembler Code remix) (5:00)
Review: Incoming - straightfire electro bass shenanigans from the ever reliable E-Beamz camp once again, courtesy of Cestrian - the alias of London based veteran Ali Renault. The dark dystopian bounce of "Lard" impresses in its own right, paving the way for a top rework by the legendary Luke Eargoggle (with Obergman) to round up the A side. On the flip, "Underbite" channels the best aesthetics of Motor City style sonic aesthetics, but men of the moment Jensen Interceptor & Assembler Code steal the spotlight with their powerful rendition.

Intergalactic Jack
Cat: EBEAMZ 007. Rel: 21 Mar 17
Deep House
  1. Intergalactic Jack (6:00)
  2. Work (5:24)
  3. Destiny (5:53)
  4. Shawty (4:58)
Review: Interplanetary Criminal, whoever they may be, seems perfectly suited to the sort of ironic, laissez faire attitude that spews out of the E-Beamz label. The imprint has gotten a name for releasing artists who, first and foremost, make stunning house music with a distinctively raw edge, but ones who also like to take the whole underground scene with a pinch of salt. DJ Boring, DJ Playstation and DJ Longdick have all appeared on the catalogue and, if we were one day to find out that they were actually all the same two or three artists, we wouldn't be surprised. Concerning the music, however, "Intergalactic Jack" churns its 4/4 beats through subtle jungle influences and aquatic bass tones, while "Work" takes a step deeper into the analogue aesthetic with some seriously crusty drums and sharp synth work - a beauty! "Destiny" opens the flip with a surprisingly UK kind of sound, reminding us of the best of the garage days, while "Shawty" unleashes a magnetic dose of old-school hip-hop sounds in the form of rough but effective vocal samples. Some true swing in here.

Continuum
Continuum (12")
Cat: EBEAMZ 036. Rel: 13 Oct 20
Drum And Bass
  1. Continuum (8:07)
  2. Baltic Sea (6:13)
  3. Full Circle (5:42)
  4. Explorer (5:48)
  5. What You've Done To Me (4:40)
Review: Monsieur-of-the-moment Mani Festo continues to flex his beats in all directions as he arrives at the equally flexible E-Beamz imprint. Following releases on the likes of Repertoire, Rupture and Boysnoize, he runs the full gamut here; 'Continuum' is a wobbled-out slab of breaks that nods towards instrumental grime, 'Baltic Sea' rekindles the old TCR or Botchit flames with just a wee smidgeon of rave magic, 'Full Circle' is all-out jungle while 'Explorer' drops the breaks entirely for an exercise in minimal techno. Finally 'What You've Done To Me' closes the show on an emotional one. Sublime.

Direct Contact
Cat: EBEAMZ 035. Rel: 05 Aug 20
Experimental/Electronic
  1. Direct Contact (6:41)
  2. Ravioli Ocean (6:39)
Review: Fresh from an impressive outing on Lazare Hoche Records, rejuvenated duo Zoo Look pop up on E-Beamz with two righteous slabs of mystical peak-time goodness. A-side "Direct Contact" offers a near perfect blend of rugged, undulated acid lines, bustling hardcore-style breakbeats and shimmering, sci-fi inspired chords. While undeniably fresh sounding, there's no denying the early '90s rave influences at play. There's a similarly retro-futurist feel to flipside "Ravioli Ocean", a wonderfully glassy-eyed, sunrise-ready affair that smothers a driving beat in tactile chords, morning-fresh synthesizer flourishes and undulating piano lines that sent shivers up and down our spines.
