Review: For a man whose legendary status has long been assured - he was, after all, the original cosmic disco DJ - it would be fair to say that Daniele Baldelli's production record is patchy, at best. It's heartening to report, then, that Cosmic Drag, his first solo full-length since 2009, is arguably his strongest release to date. Typically trippy and blessed with both psychedelic electronics, and vintage analogue synthesizers, it joins the dots between experimental Italian synth-wave, chugging electronic disco, yearning drum machine funk, glassy-eyed soundscapes and pitched-down disco-funk, all the while sounding like it could have been recorded in the DJ's late '70s and early '80s heyday.

Sweet Florence

Sweet Florence (7:52)
Emotion (3:53)
Sweet Florence (Kuniyuki edit) (9:25)
Review: Amongst those who dig for interesting, dancefloor-friendly electronic music from the early 1980s, Jacob Desvarieux's eponymous 1983 debut album is highly rated. It brilliantly joined the dots between zouk, boogie and beatbox electro, with all manner of other influences - reggae, most famously - being stirred into the producer's melting pot. Here, Endless Flight have licensed two of those tracks - the reggae-boogie brilliance of "Emotion", which includes subtle nods to a couple of disco classics, and the electro-zouk madness of "Sweet Florence" - and pressed them on a weighty 12" single. The latter track is given the re-edit treatment by Kuniyuki, who makes more of the layered guitar and organ solos, the original's wavy female vocals, and the killer original electro groove.

Review: Canadian disco don and deep digger Eddie C has certainly come a long way since his days as a local DJ in Banff, Alberta. Now based in Berlin and joining a huge community of expat producers in the city, the On The Shore LP was indeed influenced by his new hometown. His studio being located right on the River Panke in Berlin's growing Wedding district; an area still not fully in the grasp of gentrification yet and it was these lovely and relaxing surrounds, being surrounded by fellow artists in the studios which fuelled inspiration for this release. Expect a mixed bag of all things slo-mo, low slung, deep and above all funky, for sure!

Review: Rightly or wrongly, some believe that for an album to be truly great, it must take you on a journey. We're not sure yet whether Eddie C's second full-length, Country City Country, is a great album, but it's certainly something of a rollercoaster. Perhaps not a white knuckle ride, but certainly an undulating trip that bristles with vivid creativity and effortless dancefloor warmth. Given the Canadian's crate-digging sensibilities, it's no surprise to find that it's built around carefully chosen samples. Yet this is no mere cut and paste job. Beginning with a slew of lazy, slo-mo shufflers and tactile disco groovers, it sure-footedly works its way to a starlight deep house crescendo via drum machine electro, string-laden jack tracks and electric piano-laden jazz-funk jams.

We Need We
Space Shuttle
Deepa
Listenin'
Review: This is 2nd single cut from the debut album "Parts Unknown" which will be released on 28 March 2011. "We Need We" on a1, this track is lovely soulful tune which remind Minnie Ripperton or Dennis Williams. "Space Shuttle"
The mid part of a trilogy of vinyl drops to accompany Parts Unknown, Eddie C's CD only album for Endless Flight, commences with the heavy soul stylings of "We Need We". Record buyers of a certain vintage will be expecting Minnie Ripperton to launch into "Black Gold Of The Sun" such is the similarity of the opening bars! There's a definite Rotary Connection vibe running through the track and it's backed with typically crunchy percussive touches from the Banff resident. This is complemented by the Norsedelic cosmiche bump of "Space Shuffle" which wouldn't sound out of place on Internasjonal. On the flip "Deepa" provides one of the most upwardly mobile moments from Parts Unknown with the crisp uptempo percussive strut underlined by a constantly building rhythmic momentum. The burning soul moog beatdown of "Listenin", delivered at head nod tempo, only serves notice of the Canadian's versatility.

London Mix (Beesmunt Soundsystem remix) (6:33)
Review: London based South African Esa continues the rich vein of form he triggered on his Dekmantel debut with this unique and refreshing EP on Endless Flight. Powered by loose limbed breaks and peppered with alluring, rippling African rhythms, sounds and melodies, the whole EP flicks and flares like we're still in the peak of summer: "Son Op" snaps and bubbles in mid 90s feel that wouldn't have gone amiss on Northern Exposure, "Bra Hugh" shimmers with a little tropical charm and a soothing velvet 80s Miami feel while "London Mix" is the most direct party jam with its strutting breaks and boogie style bass. Need a little contrast? Jump on the Beesmunt Soundsystem mix for some dark slo-mo tribal fun.

Review: Japan's Gonno is back with a brilliant full length on the always superb Endless Flight, after stellar releases in recent times on Beats In Space and International Feel. A truly emotional album with eight well-crafted compositions, in all their ethereal and uplifting glory. There's the heart wrenching ambience of "Beasts In Your Mind" and "Already Almost", the slightly pop-inflected and totally feel good vibes of "Green Days" and "Hippies" and not forgetting the sublime deep house grooves of "Worst Day ever" and "Revoked" which are ever so typical of any Endless Flight release. A tremendous effort.

Review: A self-professed vinyl junkie and one half of Force of Nature alongside DJ Kent, KZA (pictured above) has a strong affiliation with the Endless Flight offshoot of Mule Musiq. Four years ago saw the release of his debut album Dig & Edit on the label, and he's also been responsible for a raft of 12?s on Endless Flight - including the classic Le Troublant Acid - as well as mixing two volumes of their showcase compilation series I'm Starting To Feel Okay. Now Dig & Edit 2 has arrived, and it's a continuation of the approach the producer took with his debut set. Some ten tracks long, Dig & Edit Vol. 2 largely consists of new material that KZA sampled from his extensive record collection and subsequently arranged with the assistance of Mule Musiq boss Kuniyuki, though it does end on the aforementioned, previously released Paul Martin-sampling stunner "Le Troublant Acid". All in all, essential.
