Erica Synths

Notes: Small desktop enclosure for Eurorack modules with 42 HP space and a maximum depth of 32mm. A relatively strong power solution with an external power supply and an on/off switch located at the case is included.

The power supply provides:

- 850 mA at +12V
- 850mA at -12V
- 500mA at +5V

The power distribution has 14 connectors and the case can house exactly fourteen modules from Erica's Pico Series.

The Erica Synths Black BBD is one of kind analogue delay module. It features two BBD lines: short, 1024 stage and long, 4096 stage, that work simultaneously and you can smoothly fade between those two, thus creating distinct multitap effect.

Furthermore, an advanced BBD clock noise cancellation circuit is implemented that reduces unwanted BBD noise without filtering higher frequencies of audio signal. Most of parameters are voltage controlled, which allows to integrate the module in complex modular setups.

Time

This is delay time manual control.

Because of BBD clock suspension circuit, delay time can be pushed in extremely long regions, however in that case BBD clock noise may appear. The Time CV is added to the knob setting.

In level

This is the input attenuator switch. Select among full amplitude, half amplitude and audio off.

BBD mode

This control smoothly fades between short and long delays. Any setting in-between will result in distinct multitap delay effect.

LFO rate

Adjust the internal modulation LFO rate. The internal LFO controls delay time, and it's automatically disengaged, when an external modulation signal is connected. The LED gives visual feedback on the LFO rate.

LFO shape

Select the LFO shape. Three shapes are available - triangle, square and in-between shape - mix of triangle and square.

Input

This is the audio input of the module. This is manual Dry/Wet mix. The MIX CV is added to the knob setting.

Colour

Even though the module has BBD clock suspension circuit, the colour switch provides extra lowpass filtering of the signal. At top setting no filtering is applied, at lower settings increasing filtering is present.

Feedback

This is the delay feedback manual control. In extreme clockwise settings the module goes into self-oscillation, and by adjusting delay time and BBD mode settings, the module becomes a drone machine. The FBK CV is added to the knob setting.

CV level

This is the Time CV level attenuator. If nothing is patched into TIME CV socket, it controls the internal LFO amplitude.

WET out

This is the WET signal output of the module - use it for advanced patches.

Out

This is the main output of the module.

Notes: The Erica Synths Black DADSR (Delay-Attack-Decay-Sustain-Release) is a fully analogue envelope generator that gives you extended control over events in your modular synth. It's a looping exponential envelope generator that has voltage control over each stage of the envelope. An independent Gate Delay section adds extra functionality to design advanced soundscapes, like delayed modulation e ects, wave morphing, etc.

LOOP
This is a LOOP switch. When it's ON, the envelope generator outputs a signal for which the rise time is defined by the Attack setting and the fall time is defined by the Release knob setting.

Notes: The Erica Synths Envelope Generator 2 is a re-triggerable, looping envelope generator with some unconventional features that are very useful for experimental setups. What sets the Black EG2 apart from other envelope generators is its optional GATE LENGTH setting, which allows for generating full ADSR envelopes even if a short trigger is used at the input. Likewise, in LOOP mode, the module outputs a full ADSR envelope instead of a classical AD envelope. The gate length is both manual and CV controlled, which allows for using this envelope generator in compact modular setups controlled by trigger sequencers only.

LOOP/SINGLE

Select between SINGLE SHOT or LOOP modes. When the internal gate is o , the rise and fall times are set via the A and R knobs. When the internal gate is on, all knobs have an e ect on the envelope shape.

The LED gives visual feedback on the envelope state.

Engage the internal gate and you have a full ADSR envelope in loop mode and with a trigger applied to the trigger input in single mode.

TRIGGER

This is the TRIGGER input. You can retrigger the envelope and start the attack stage again, even if the gate is still high (see Figure 1).

If you wish to use the envelope generator with an internal gate, patch the incoming trigger signal here. The internal gate is linked to the trigger input, not the gate input.

This module generates several clock signals simultaneously and has some more advanced features like tap tempo, shuffle and divide, both for controlled rhythmic music production and for experiments with high level of uncertainty. You may also find the adjustable and even random duty circle of shuffling and random clock outputs interesting. Bonus feature - the module can be used as a performance time stopwatch.

Notes: Erica Synths Cymbals is a distinct topology digital/analogue module, where cymbal samples are passed thru AS3330 based VCA and controlled via envelope generators of unique design. The module features 10 sets of custom Crash and Ride cymbal samples with Tune control and individual Decay control. Accent and CV control over Tone and Decay allow you to create lot of variations in the Cymbals track. An extra feature is sample looping - when it's on, a certain part of the sample is looped while the envelope decay is on, thus creating a distinct, delay-like effect. Cymbal samples are developed by producer and musician Nero Bellum.

As its name suggests, the Erica Synths DJ VCF STEREO module provides sound treatment functionality typically found on DJ decks - it is fully open when the cutoff knob is at 12:00. When turned counter-clockwise, lowpass filtering is applied and when turned clockwise, highpass filtering is initiated. Additionally, there is a nice-sounding, adjustable resonance parameter. This provides hands-on control over the sound during performances as well as unconventional timbre modulations that are hard to achieve with conventional state variable filters.

Erica Synths Modulator is an advanced modulation and pitched noise source with focus on rhythmic (but not limited to) compositions in mind. It features two identical syncable to the BPM LFOs/noise sources with selectable morphing waveshapes. LFO frequency can be manually adjustable, as well as they provide frequency divisions and multiplication in Sync mode. Each LFO has two outputs- main one and secondary one with adjustable phase, so you can create evolving modulations. Furthermore, LFOs can be linked to work at the same frequency and the first LFO has built in VCA to control output signal amplitude.

Notes: Erica Synths Fusion Dual Mixer is designed to mix and overdrive audio signals on the vacuum tube.

Use the Fusion Mixer as two independent 3-input mixers (also for stereo signal mixing) or a 6-input mixer. Special feature of the Fusion Mixer - great tube overdrive effects when level knobs are set to 3 o'clock or above. When used with drum machines, it even emulates sidechain compressors. When used to mix signals from VCOs Fusion Mixer it works as waveshaper, especially, if pulse width modulated pulse signals is used in one of inputs.

All Fusion modules by default are configured to work with regular eurorack PSU.

Due to the fact that cold tube heaters have lower resistance, Fusion modules have significant power consumption peak at startup, when power consumption almost doubles for 1-2 seconds. This is not a problem with linear PSUs that have power inertia, but may cause switching PSU internal protection to turn off power supply. Please make sure your PSU has some headroom before installing multiple Fusion modules.
