Soul
  1. Hold That Groove (4:22)
  2. Falling In & Out Of Love (4:25)
Review: Fantasy Love Records launches with something particularly special: two obscure, sought after cuts from 1980s Washington-based band Jimmy Bennett and the Family. Both tracks originally appeared on Strata Sphere Records seven-inch way back in 1985, with original copies now changing hands for hundreds of pounds online. The A-side, "Hold That Groove", is indicative of the six-piece band's output, layering deep, spacey synths, slap bass and Bennett's vocal (urging his band mates not to loose the groove) atop a stepping, go-go style rhythm. The flip is, if anything, even deeper, with Bennett whispering and singing sweet nothings over a slow, undeniably intergalactic boogie groove.

Paradise's Love (remix) (reissue)
Cat: FL 008. Rel: 26 May 20
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Paradise's Love (Kon's remix) (7:25)
  2. Paradise's Love (Fantasy Love remix) (5:06)
  3. Paradise's Love (3:24)
Review: Those dusty-fingered boogie diggers with long "wants lists" should be familiar with "Paradise's Love", an obscure 1982 single from one-shot outfit Bordeaux that has been known to change hands online for hundreds of pounds a go. Here it gets the reissue treatment, with the colourful, Prince-goes-AOR disco style original version (track 3) being joined by two fresh remixes. The headline-grabbing treatment comes from KON, who beefs up the bottom end, makes much of the original's carnival-ready touches (whistles and so on), emphasizes the rubbery bassline and extends it to a dancefloor-friendly seven-and-a-half minutes. Equally as impressive is the Fantasy Love Remix, which instead chooses to up the tempo and push up the original version's P-funk sounds.

Love Dream
Cat: FL 009. Rel: 12 Oct 20
Funk/Reediciones
  1. Love Dream (4:21)
  2. High Voltage (3:35)
Review: Jimmy 'James' Shaw and his wife Maureen were collectively known as Unity, and were backed by eight piece NYC funk band Downbeats. It is these people being this 1968 slice of smooth R&B and bubbly funk that is now reissued by Fantasy Love. It's the sort of superbly tender and heart aching slow motion soul that will sound good until forever. 'High Voltage' is a more upbeat funk cut powered by deriving rhythms and big horns. Unity & The Downbeats would continue to tour the East Coast until the end of the 70s when they disbanded and left a fine legacy of great singles.

We're Running Out Of Time (reissue)
We're Running Out Of Time (reissue) (12") (1 per customer)
Cat: FL 007. Rel: 12 Dec 19
Soul
  1. We're Running Out Of Time (7:31)
  2. Countdown (7:05)
Review: Certainly, in terms of the current state of the environment, the title of this Oscar Weathers gem couldn't be more true. While that is a sobering sentiment, the tune he serves up is far from it - dazzling disco synths, big horn leads and noodling fun bass keeps you moving nonstop from the first beat to the last drop. On the flip is the slightly lower slung "Countdown", this time with meandering lead synths that bring a retro-futuristic soul to his deep cut rhythm section. Well done Fantasy Love on another choice reissue of this essential slice of soul.
