Review: For Those That Know step up with another exquisite choice of underground hero to boost with a retrospective release - ADJ. Andy Jaggers has been a lynchpin to the UK electro scene since the 90s, and his Pyramid Transmissions label (run with Pathic) is rightly lauded and unsurprisingly hard to get hold of after release. This release gathers together some of Jaggers' finest work from recent years, including some previously unreleased tracks and highly sought after album cuts that have been out of reach for too long already. If you want high grade, forward thinking electro with a braindance tint, this is an album you won't want to miss.

Newton

Flause
Review: For Those That Knoe continues in its quest to shine a light on criminally overlooked gems from the vast archives of house and techno, this time looking to the early 00s era of minimal house and the little known Swiss producer Canson. Using crisp, clicky rhythms as a backbone and embellishing the tracks with gorgeous bluesy synth touches, this is classy, understated stuff for the warm up or trip out crowd. "Newton" lets the chords linger around a robotic gurgle of percussion, while "Lachgras" takes a slinkier route into nocturnal keys clipped for maximum minimalisation. "Flause" edges towards dubbier territory with its subtly shifting tones, but the slinky house groove remains a constant as it ticks away underneath the shimmering textures.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: For Those That Knoe has been doing a sterling job in seeking out truly obscure operators from the annals of house and techno history, cultivating some meaningful working relationships with the likes of Derek Carr to give us an insight into great tracks that might otherwise have never seen the light of day. Derek Carr has already been spotted on the label once this year, and returns with another four impeccable slices of machine soul aimed squarely at the stars. Check "Bob" and there's every chance you'll feel the heady charm of B12 et al drifting over you, while "L'Equipe" gives you a serious dose of Heard-inspired warmth for these long winter nights.

Review: Derek Carr's reputation as a treasured force in UK deep techno is well established now, at least compared to before his mammoth reissue campaign with For Those That Knoe began. Label and artist deliver once again, this time with a mammoth quadruple pack vinyl that gathers together some of the best digital-only releases Carr has put out. This package is incredible value for money, positively overflowing with thoughtfully rendered sci-fi soul that will keep you returning to make new discoveries for years to come. Whether it's the aqueous funk of "Angels" or the airy electro of "25th," every one of these 17 tracks is gold.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Derek Carr is a name known by few and far between, with only a handful of vinyl releases in the early 2000s, he built a worthy but unfortunately not widely-spread reputation for putting together stunning deep techno. Originally pressed in finite numbers, the records have recently found themselves in demand on Discogs, and rightly so, Derek's music is in a class of its own. Having been a big fan since his releases on then local (to label owner Ben) Leeds label Geek records, For Those That Knoe has dug deep into the archives to put together a sizeable selection of Derek's back catalogue, with some unreleased gems dotted amongst the classic must-haves, spread across three EPs

Part three in Derek's starts with Cuba, probably the most sought after track in his back catalogue. It's stunning simplicity and charming summer vibe puts it amongst Derek's greatest works and understandably so. Red then slots into the A2 position which was originally released under the radar on a Headspace compilation. As warm as Cuba but with an added touch of melancholy. Truly outstanding deep house.

Iceberg takes things back more into techno territory with a funked up bass line, stepping rhythms, Detroit strings and those trademark twinkly leads. Finally Penthouse Apartment 3AM a lush electro breakbeat track from the very hard to find Trident release, rounds off the EP with aplomb.

Praise 2014
Review: The early 2000 era work of UK techno artist Leigh Dickson was given a much needed reappraisal by Sushitech offshoot Pariter who reissued Baby Ford's remix of Praise from his 2002 12" of the same name and slipped in a Ryan Elliot remix for good measure. Boe Recordings have now coaxed Dickson into raiding his archives of unreleased material for a trilogy of 12"s on their prospering offshoot For Those That Knoe. It seems like RSD may be the cause for a delay on part 1, but the four tracks featured on this second volume suggest Dickson to be one of the UK's most undervalued producers. There's a warmth and ease to opening track "Crescent" that envelopes you right away, whilst "ION" has rhythmic elements that are equal to shards of glistening light. Do check the flip for a previously unheard version of Dickson's "Praise" that extends proceedings and features an entirely new intro.

Review: Boe Recordings offshoot For Those That Knoe launched last year with a terrific 12" from LHAS, before offering up two 12" singles from forgotten '90s deep house producer Casey Tucker. For their first release of 2014, label boss Ben Parkinson has turned to another little-known name from the past, electro and techno fusionist Leigh Dickson. Knoe 3/1 - 3/2 will be released shortly - shows Dickson to be a producer of great talent, flitting between spine-tingling, Detroit-influenced deep house (the shimmering riffs and early '90s electronics of "Chimera"), Drexiya-style electro ("Aerobatics", the picturesque "Closed Box") and rush-inducing, synth-laden melodic bliss ("Sketch Form").

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Carl Finlow is something of a cult hero in the British electronic underground, having turned his hand to many aliases and styles without pandering to hype, and that's surely why the discerning For Those That Knoe label have deemed him worthy of a showcase release. His works as Silicon Scally are a particular highlight, channeling the seediest streams of Detroit electro and injecting a little of that UK verve and swagger into the mix, with invariably stunning results. Watch out for the seductive bite of "Dark Matter" and the dystopian funk of "Deep Dissolve", but in truth every selection on this choice double pack is worthy of some serious platter time.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Carl Finlow is one of the great unsung heroes of British electronic music, with a raft of aliases and projects that burst with inventive production, warmth and a sense of fun that so much slickly produced techno and electro misses. For Those That Knoe are doing the right thing in gathering together some choice cuts from over the years - the Voice Stealer jams in particular stand out with their miscreant tones and overall uneasy atmosphere tapping into the malaise of the darker Drexciya-related output. There are all shades of electro to be enjoyed on here though, and hopefully it'll place Finlow on the radar for a few more heads.

Review: UK imprint Boe Recordings ranks amongst one of the most unsung labels out there, having quietly and steadily gone about their business of issuing quality deep house long since 2007. Here they establish a new offshoot in For Those That Knoe which aims to focus on under the radar talent and they've chosen wisely to christen the series with LHAS aka Jaime Read. Whilst Read has released plenty of material under a variety of names, he's never really gained the acclaim his funk filled vision of Chicago jack has merited. With a whole new audience invested in vinyl only deep house, perhaps now is the time for LHAS to shine? Certainly, all three tracks here display the best of Read's inherent class for fluid musicality and classic house rhythms.

Review: It has been some years now since Nail came back from the wilderness after one of his early EPs was re-released by Fear of Flying. Since then he has turned out plenty of new material as well as digging deep into his vast and vital vaults to serve up the sort of lo-fi but kicking house sounds that made him and his Nottingham crew such a driving force back in the 90s. And that's what we get here on For Those That Knoe - no fewer than eight masterfully stripped-back cuts of deep house. Some are laced with dreamy melodies, some roll deep for days, some are raw and textured pumpers and some are jazzed-up bangers with charm to spare. Essential stuff.

Review: Nimbus are three chaps originally from the house music epicentre of Woking, England. In the early 2000s, Oli, Jonathan and Pete carted a gigantic Dell computer between each other's houses to craft a modest but timeless back catalogue of deep and emotional tracks. Their music was featured on European labels Bitboutique and the excellent Iron Box Music at the time; of which 'Entron' a particularly shining example of their sound, only recently gained notoriety amongst a number of discerning DJs. For Those That Knoe is proud to present a sonic snapshot of those times the lads spent in the home counties with three previously released cuts from the aforementioned labels and one taken from their unreleased archives.

Review: For Those That Knoe is proud to present some of the freshest and timeless sounds the UK has to offer from Numonika, sounding as good now as they would have done when recorded ten years ago. Three tracks from the original demo CD have been selected, compiled, re-mastered and pressed by For Those That Knoe onto a special 12" for collectors and club DJs alike.
In true Knoe fashion, release 4/1 is a compilation of tracks unearthed from a CD squirrelled away for a decade in a dusty loft. The CD in question was loaded with unreleased and untitled material from the owners of and producers for two of the UK's rarest and sought after tech house labels rinsed by DJs such as Craig Richards in the late 90s.

Review: David Swatten self released the "South EP" under his Planisphere guise out of Australia back in the year 2000. The 4 track 12" of ultra deep tones and smoky piano musings only found its way into a handful of owner's collections. A few copies resurfaced much later in 2017, with Dave himself selling his last few remaining records via email orders gathered through the online treasure trove that is the We're Going Deep Facebook group. For Those That Knoe promptly got in touch with Dave to talk about a potential project and it can now be revealed. This labour of love has come to fruition in the form of a long player that features three cuts from the "South EP" as well as 8 other rare and exclusive previously unreleased recordings. Following the successful vinyl release, For Those That Knoe has now released has reacted to customer demand and made the album available on both cassette and digital formats.

Review: Planisphere is exactly the kind of cult deep house and techno producer that For Those That Knoe are all over. David Swatten's last release was 20 years ago, and that one now fetches sky-high prices online, but fortunately the good ship Knoe has taken charge of the situation and commissioned this full-length release of sumptuous electronics. As you would expect for the label, the vibe is primarily classic ambient techno with a spread of different energies from heads down club grooves to blissful back room excursions, all expressed through vintage synth tones. Consistently brilliant throughout, this is the kind of album you could happily melt into from start to finish, as well as having plenty for the mix-minded to get busy with.

Review: UK veteran producer Jaime Read was the one to kick off For Those That Knoe back in 2013 with his LHAS alias, and now he's back on the archival house and techno label with some more stunning machine soul from the vaults. These tracks are lifted from his 1997 album "The End Of The Beginning", and they're steeped in the glorious exploratory nature of '90s techno programming, when the focus was on pushing the potential for expression through the machines. From the rattling perc and fuzzy synth swells of "Collective Consciousness" to the edgy, snaking drum science of "On The Surface Of The 9th Moon," this is an essential window into a forgotten treasure of the UK techno canon.

It makes sense then that this 12" is called "The Beginning", but the music is far from amateur material. This is elevated, evolved and exquisite deep house and techno that shows the depth and breadth the genres can reach when the machines are pushed into wild new territory. Just listen to the alien signals embedded in "Itty Bitty Pieces," a stunning electro workout that sounds unlike anything else. For any self-respecting fan of vintage UK house and techno, this release is unmissable.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Jade Seatle met Jane Fitz at tech-house haven Kerfuffle in Brixton around 2005 or 06 (they don't remember). They bonded that day over records, and a strange story about a pebble. Disillusioned with parties in London, rather than moan, Jade and Jane decided to make their own. Night Moves was born in 2012, after they visited Jenifa Mayanja in Connecticut in summer 2011 and promised her a party to play in London. What then evolved was a journey in music, gatherings and friendship - and a lesson in how a community can evolve from a dancefloor. Night Moves spawned Day Moves, Field Moves, a B2B partnership, and many ridiculous parties in a range of wonderful locations. The records on this release not only represent the sound of Night Moves - all are tried-and-tested NM greatest hits - but also the sound that brought Jade and Jane together, and informed what they do now, where they've been and where they are still to go. For Those That Knoe is proud to invite Jade Seatle and Jane Fitz to present the Sound of Night Moves - only available on vinyl!

Review: Amoon Andrews is one of those cult producers from the mid 90s that could have easily remained under the radar were it not for passionate, tuned in labels like Knoe tracking down their wares and finding out what didn't get released the first time around. The Sir Lord Comixx material packs all the hallmarks of great 90s deep house, and so it goes on this next round of DAT-sourced goodness. "New World" is a swirling gem that would sound right at home on Guidance, while "Danceteria" gets a twitchy spring in its step that should set the party alight. "Dance On The Ceiling" is equally feisty in its make-up, working some choice MIDI sax tones into the melee before "Physical Oceans" sets off into adventurous electro territory.

Review: British deep house veteran Sir Lord Commix is the latest producer to hand over DATs of forgotten late '90s studio sessions to the team behind For Those That Knoe. Predictably, they've chosen four great cuts to release. First up you'll find the elastic synths, alien melodies and fizzing Motor City percussion of early tech-house style shuffler "Pieces Of Dream", before the P-funk-influenced UK-US garage fusion of "Leroy Garage" takes us in an altogether breezier direction. Flip for the Jovonn style synthesizer melodies and groovy garage rhythms of "New Jersey", and the electro-inspired intelligent techno dreaminess of "Destiny".

He's picked out two absolute gems you may well have not heard before - Paul Rayner's Slaves Incorporated track "Baby" and Tom Gillieron's "The Fire". The former is a rare slice of mid '90s UK garage which teeters between New Jersey bounce and London tuffness, while the latter is a wonderfully clattering slice of jazz-funk laced broken beat for soul cats and breaks-minded ravers alike to flex to.

Review: REPRESS ALERT:

It's 4 years after Casey Tucker's seminal release on For Those That Knoe and theimprint has decided to run another repress to humbly meet the demand.

After a handful of releases on Probe under various aliases and before that on Plus 8 with no other than Ritchie Hawtin, Casey Tucker set up Fine Balance Recordings to showcase his unique melodic Tech House solo productions. The label released two EPs (The Carpet Dancer and Accumulated Knowledge) on 12", both bubbling well under the surface of the mainstream but changes in the music industry and the difficulties many labels felt at that time meant that the label was put on hold. Very much in demand today and extremely rare, FTTK has worked with Casey to dig out the original DAT recordings of those records as well as a fine selection of unreleased material to represent the second chapter of For Those That Knoe."

Review: For Those That Knoe are back with another wedge of dusted down delights from Casey Tucker, a hidden treasure of the mid 90s that nearly got away. Fortunately his effervescent machine soul jams have found a new lease of life with these reissues, and this fourth installment comes from a freshly unearthed box of DATs that pushes Tucker's story even further. "Inner Strength" is a pumped up shot of dynamic techno in the classic sense of the word, mysterious but hopeful, tough but sensitive. "Terraform," which previously aired on a long-deleted 12" from the 90s, takes things skywards with an unabashedly positive tone to the dense layers of synths and box beats. "Waiting Game" rounds the EP out on a wistful, acid-drenched tip - let's hope there's more jams of this quality to come from the Tucker archives.

On this third installment, Tucker's distinctive style positively leaps out of the speakers. "Carpet Dancer" is a ragged yet effervescent twist of plush techno melodics and spirited beat manipulation, while "Juxtaposition" maintains the sparkling synth work while bringing the drums in line. "Whatever Comes To Mind" is the deeper offering on the record, bringing balance to another fine missive from a hidden gem of an artist.
