Review: As 2017 draws to a close, Berlin-based singer, composer and arranger Charlotte Dos Santos delivers her debut album, Cleo. It's a quietly impressive set, all told, with the former Oslo resident's slick and soulful vocals - think Erykah Badu or Jill Scott crossed with female blue-eyed soul songstresses - naturally taking centre stage. Musically, the album takes a fairly widescreen approach, serving up cuts that variously touch on hip-hop soul, jazz-fired synth soul, Rotary Connection, Balearic synth-pop (the superb title track), crackly experimental jazz, jazz-funk and more sachirine soul sounds. As debut albums go, it's a bit of a peach.
