Review: With this the 3rd instalment of Hell's my definition of house 12" series, two new massive Gigolo old-school tracks are resurrected for the pleasure of a modern listening public. In 1986, three young DJs began making music on a 4-track recorder in a Baltimore basement studio. Little did they know at the time that more than 15 years later they would be viewed as pioneers of American dance music. 33 1/3 Queen (aka Basement Boys aka Jay Ateinhour, Reddy Souglas, and Thommy Davis) took samples of A Guy Called Gerald's classic "Blow Your House Down" (originally released in 1988) and made their single "Searchin'" which quickly turned out to be an underground club favourite. To date, the boys have remixed songs such esteemed acts as Michael Jackson, Erykah Badu, The Shamen, Angie Stone, Lenny Kravitz and Paula Abdul. In addition, they continue to expose and nurture new talents on their own label, Basement Boys Records, which was established in 1995. The Basement Boys have been responsible for some of clubland's biggest anthems and their hit "Searchin'" is as relevant today as it was ten years ago. Earth People's (aka Pal Joey) house masterpiece reach up to mars originally released in 1990 on Underworld Records finally gets a re-issue on Gigolo Records. The original with its monster drums shuffling guitars synth stabs great use of vocal samples and incredible production skills still withstands the test of time sounding like it could have been made yesterday. This is classic material here that will destroy any dancefloor!! House maestro Pal Joey released this tune, a funky cross-pollination of garage classics from Toney Lee ("Reach Up") and Dexter Wansel ("Life On Mars"), in 1990, and you have to thank Hell for making it available now once again to a 2006 audience. There's a fine line between classic and dated. Hell knows this well and selects only for his 12" series "My Definition Of House" those which were groundbreaking when they first appeared and still sound hot to 21st century ears. So keep your mind and ears open, for you never know what Hell will dig up from the basement next. Stay tuned for "My Definition Of House part 4"!

Review: This is The Activator's debut 12" single on International Deejay Gigolo Records. Sharif Zawideh aka The Activator is a true linchpin of the Detroit underground. Before producing music, Sharif's participation in Detroit's early rave scene during the early 1990s led him to DJ and organize loft parties. In his ever low-key mode, Sharif has quietly kept the Detroit night scene alive in a time when just about all others had given up or moved out. Now with his 'Softcurls Activator EP', The Activator proves that he is not only a quality DJ and party organizer, but as a producer he is also up there with the best of them. 'All Kinds Of Motherf*ckers' on the A side is a monster jacking number. Clocking in at a colossal 11 minutes 54 seconds, this massive track is mixed by Jacek Sienkiewicz, whose own work has come out on NovaMute, WMF Records and Cocoon. The B side features 3 shorter but equally interesting tracks - 'Another Thing Is (America Is The Mix)', 'Escape From Detroit' and 'Doctor Gato (Plus 4 Reasons)'. This is powerful music which will work well in the club and is an important addition to the ever expanding Gigolo catalogue. The Activator programmed the Underground Stage of the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (Fuse-In Festival / Movement Festival) in 2003, 2004 and in 2005.

Gigolo release of 2008 sees Hell welcome a new face to his family, as Captain Commodore aka Mariusz Socha joins the long and illustrious
list of International Deejay Gigolos. Captain Commodore might be what is still unfairly termed a newcomer, but he is by no means a novice.
In fact he has already honed his skills over years of experience on record and stage. The fresh young talent from Lodz, Poland, already
played along side HELL and his Gigolo comrades at the Gigolo Popkomm 2007 party at Watergate Berlin. Other major live appearances by
Captain Commodore include the Warsaw Electronic Festival (WEF) where he is a regular. Although this is his first release on an international
label. While he wisely lists his influences as "Every sound I hear", his music can clearly be seen to be follow on in the tradition of some of his
idols such as Herbie Hancock, Kraftwerk, Bjork, Matmos and Mr. Ozio. The opening track on Captain Commodore's debut release for Gigolo,
'Love Machine', is a deep and dark house groove custom made for the dance-floor, guaranteed to get you in gear for some hot lovin'. Commodore
combines the smoothness of a lounge tune with the edge of an old-school track.

Review: Dibaba's music is future music - more than bleeps from a lost decade, it's for dancefloors and living rooms and after parties and headphones. Following on from Play Paul's cover of the mega hit last year, Gigolo once again pay tribute to Green Velvet's 'La La Land' classic with Dibaba's 'Don't Forget That You Were Saved In Dada Land'. Dibaba packs the freshest of contemporary beats and grooves into this four minute pop number. Although this is his first release on Gigolo Records, Dibaba has released a handful of records on other labels and received press acclaim as well as DJ plays. For example, the 'Flow My Tears' EP, which came out in 2002, was featured in The Wire, 'Hold You' was remixed by Agoria and was Tune Of The Week on the BBC's music page and also made it into Pete Tong's Buzz Chart, with top reviews in Jockey Slut and iDJ, and spins from Sasha, Tom Stephan and Seb Fontaine, amongst others. Dibaba has also worked with Bpitch Control's Tomas Andersson, and his debut album 'Songs For Good Lives' was released on Malmö based Deeplay Music in 2005.

Review: Released back in 2017, DJ Hell's Zukunftsmusik has already seen a fair share of remixes, but this volume could feature some of the finest yet. They are all fairly heavy hitters, perfectly suited to dank warehouse spaces with minimal lighting and powerful sound systems. From opener by Berlin trio Fjaak providing one of the EP's standout moments, with a blistering rework of the title track, to the hypnotic tunnel vision of "Mantra" first remixed by Italian Marco Faraone (Uncage, Rekids, Drumcode) or the legend Eduardo De La Calle's deep space sonar transmission on the flip which was sublime. VRIL gets in on the action too, with a terrific perspective of "Guede" which gets his 13th Symphony Of Artifacts remix - taking the German producer's dub techno sound into even more twisted territory.

Review: For his third release of 2017, veteran producer DJ Hell has decided to celebrate the humble automobile. In other words, he's gone all Kraftwerk on us, whispering a spoken word vocal over a Teutonic new wave backing track rich in gentle synthesizer arpeggio lines, bubbly electronic melodies and subtle nods to harder alien funk. Two old pals of the long-serving DJ/producer step up to provide remixes. First, Roman Flugel provides a darker, woozier and undeniably trippy take full of bass-heavy electro rhythms and outboard effects, before Belfast's Phil Kieran nudges it further towards Italo-disco/techno territory via a mix that sounds like Kraftwerk on steroids. Impressive stuff, all told.

Review: Long serving International Deejay Gigolos boss DJ Hell is having rather a productive year. His latest release, which follows on from the unashamedly Kraftwerk-esque "Car, Car, Car", sees him explore a range of woozy, downtempo influences from the late '70s and early '80s. At 14 minutes long, the extended version of "Anything Anytime" is something of an epic. It never outstays its welcome, though, with Hell using it as an opportunity to tease out a woozy, lovable, heart-felt soundscape smothered in dirt-encrusted electronics, warm vintage synthesizer flourishes and a quirky vocoder vocal. And, of course, some rather odd modular pulses. Solomun provides a more dancefloor-centric remix on the flipside, smartly re-inventing the track as a chunk of bubbling dancefloor electro.

Review: Munich machine DJ Hell returned with his fifth studio album entitled Zukunftsmusik in 2017. The German techno legend who over the years has been affiliated with such institutions as Grossenwahn (Munich), E-Werk and Tresor is of course also owner of International Deejay Gigolo Records: which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. The track "I Want U" recently received a great remix by French electro legend The Hacker and now it gets some more hard hitting renditions. First up is Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann's version, which is not what you would expect from him. It sounding more like an '80s industrial version of sorts. On the flip, Terrence Fixmer delivers the goods as always with his grinding EBM rendition which will really set off the party.
