Review: Matthieu Beck commonly drifts around collaborative projects like Zooey, having previously cut his teeth in French indie rock bands such as Adam Kesher, but now he appears solo on Growing Bin with a rather sublime slice of island boogie in concept as well as sound. From the title Here Alone to the castaway artwork and beyond, Beck makes no attempt to obscure his inspiration making this record. In the Growing Bin tradition, this is the thoroughly relaxing kind of marooned Beck is depicting - a balmy isolation bedecked in fresh fruit and with ample espadrilles to see you through until a rescue party appears on the horizon. Why worry when you can kick back and enjoy the peace and quiet?

Review: "Tide Life is a fossicked assortment of personal memories surrounding the beach, the ocean and the touristical fantasy world that surround it. A childhood visit to Hamilton island...... watching Home and Away in the 90s.......or shopping in Lakes Entrance..... floating adrift in the flotsam of daily life". Or so says The Person of this startlingly beautiful 2018 release.

There's certainly a lot of audible influences, although it is possible to put a fine point on it - strangely tropical sounding, 1980s movie accidentals and montages, cartridge-era RPG video game soundtracks, and electronic soul, sans lyrics, are all pretty accurate labels. Owing as much to the likes of D?M-FunK as one-man keyboard shows in half-forgotten barrooms and deleted scenes from The Goonies, it's a ride that's brimming with imagination and inspiration for your own waking dreams.

Review: Max Santilli is an Australian multi-instrumentalist who is maybe best known for his work with Jacob Fugar in Angophora. He seems to like to put out one new album a year, and we like it too. Last year's In Circles really helped get us through lockdown and now he appears on Germany's Growing Bin with more of his mega soothing sounds. Rooted in Balearic sounds but with lovely acoustic guitar work, soft shakers and sway grooves that make it feel as if you have been cast adrift on a raft, it is so much more than that. There is beautiful melancholy in every track that makes a lasting impression, much like with all Santilli's records.

Review: Taro Nohara aka Yakenohara returns with Hyper Nu Age Tekno in brilliantly futuristic fashion. Along the way he fuses busted IDM, cosmic deep space ambiance and plenty of Sheffield bleep signifiers into an album of mind melting linear lushness. Underneath all the deft synth craft and crystalline chimes is enveloping sub bass that all together slowly but surely lowers you into a state of trance. This is an album full of light, of hope and optimism as well as devastating dance floor clout.
