Review: If you're curious, and let's face it everyone is, The Reds, Pinks and Purples is the 'DIY kitchen pop project' of Glenn Donaldson, of Skygreen Leopards note, along with his friends and family members - both biological and symbolic. They hail from San Francisco, and make exactly the kind of jangly guitar music that underpins affected vocals beautifully. And they write songs with names like 'Life At Parties' and 'Don't Ever Prey In The Church On My Street'. More than a sense of romance to the troupe, then, here they present four tracks that define their sound perfectly. By that we mean beautiful strings, rolling guitar rhythms and crooner-inspired vocal delivery. A grand work, masked by a lo-fi, echoed timbre that creates a sense of timelessness. 'They Only Wanted Your Soul', for example, could have sat atop the charts in any decade since the 1980s, and yet still manages to feel fresh.
